'Persephone' unfolds in the captivating world of 'The God's Universe,' introducing a blend of familiar and fresh faces and the inevitable chaos accompanying them.
Life in Styx is finally stable for Persephone and Hades. The city is safe, and their re-established friendship with the Egyptian Gods brings a welcomed calm—until the meddling Fates disrupt their peace with an unexpected a baby.
As if the idea of motherhood isn't daunting enough, a mysterious voice beckons Persephone to an enigmatic island on the Nile. Ever drawn to adventure and somewhat avoiding a challenging conversation with Hades, Persephone embarks on a quest to find the source of the voice…and finds a whole lot more than she could ever dream of.
Please note that 'Persephone' is a novella that contains adult content, swearing, and steamy sex scenes.
Alessa Thorn believes that all monsters and villains deserve their happy endings. She prefers her clothes black, eyeliner winged and books full of hot romance. She thinks heroes are boring, so her first series 'The Court of the Underworld' centers around dark gods, monsters and villains from her favorite Greek Myths.
This book is not a bad book, it’s just not for me. I enjoyed the call backs to other characters in the series but the entire novella was basically centred around one of my major book “icks” so I didn’t really enjoy it as much as I have other books in set in the gods universe.
This was so, SO fun! Gah, I’m kicking my feet and squealing. It was incredible being reunited with this wily crew, and all those new faces? Ahhhhhhh. Couldn’t have been more perfect, and I am alllllll aboard the Lost Goddesses train! Can’t wait for Bellona!
A sweet check in with our favorite gods that bridges the time between their books and the next series. Looking forward to reading about the lost goddesses.
I adore Alessa’s writing everything about it just makes me so happy. The worldbuilding is always fantastic, without being too overwhelming and I love her take on mythology. This says Greek mythology but to be honest it’s a little of everything!! Especially Greek and Egyptian. For a fun, fresh take on it all you NEED Alessa’s work in your life!
‼️ This is not a stand alone‼️ You need to read the Gods of the Underworld and the Gods of the Duat series to avoid spoilers (but trust me it’s worth it!). Also this review will be a bit vague to avoid spoiling the other series’.
This was like revisiting old friends and catching up with them - with some new ones thrown in! I loved seeing what the characters of the series have been getting up to and the best bit is always the banter between them all - Hermes especially LOVES to wind everyone up (he’s my fave!). I also adore the love that Hades and Persephone have for each other - the complete support and adoration these two have for each other is amazing.
This is a fantastic novella and a brilliant bridge between the last series and the next. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this amazing world of gods Alessa has made!
I’m a huge fan of anything Alessa Thorn writes! :) This is a really nice “slice of life” in the Gods Universe covering Persephone’s surprise pregnancy. It also sets the stage for future books. (MORE MORE, write faster!!). My only complaint is it’s too short! I wish it covered the twins growing up and learning to control their powers. Hopefully they show up in the next book, maybe Bellona will teach them knife fighting as she promised here. :) In my experience as an avid reader, when a series gets into double digits the quality declines. NOT at all the case here!!! Book 11 just made me more excited for the next installment!! I love the blend of historical accuracy and modern setting. I could easily turn this book review into a book on what I like about this book and the series… but I think it’s clear I’m a fan :) If you like mythology and urban fantasy, with powerful but relatable characters, I highly recommend reading this series and anything by this author.
I wait eagerly for any offering from this great author.
Great novella as always from Ms. Thorn. I hope and believe this book is an introduction to a new set of protagonists for her 'The Gods of the Universe' series. We are introduced to a whole new set of possible Gods falling in love and all the excitement that entails. With enough drama, tears, fears, laughter, and witty dialog to satisfy any paranormal lover. I am lucky to have Kindle Unlimited and able to read each new release for free. Starting with the 'Gods of the Underworld' and on to the 'Gods of the Duat', each book should be read to achieve the full effect of these masterpieces of romance literature. As you can probably tell I adore these books and readily recommend them to family and friends. ALL of Ms. Thorn's books are delightful and should not be missed. Her series of The Fae Universe is another series I highly recommend. All her books contain alpha males, women strong enough to take them on and win, and enough excitement to keep a reader glued to the pages.
I really enjoyed the earlier books in the Gods Universe, so I was really excited to see that Alessa Thorn was coming out with the Lost Goddesses, a new series set in the same world. Persephone was a great set up for the new series. Hades and Persephone were one of my favorite couples of the original books, so it was fun to see where they were and how their relationship had progressed. We also have cameos from (I think) all of the other original couples and the Egyptian god couples as well. Spending time with all of our favorite gods was a lot of fun. There were so many little callbacks and inside jokes that got me so excited for more from this world. There are also several new gods and goddesses introduced that I can't wait to get more from! Can't wait to see what's next for the Lost Goddesses and the Gods Universe. Highly recommended, though I would definitely suggest you start at the beginning with Asterion. The whole series is so fun and entertaining, an easy read you won't want to put down.
Welcome back old friends! A fun, quick read that sets up Alessa Thorn upcoming series. I enjoy the callback to all our favs of the gods universe. I am really looking forward to what comes next. Unfortunately, this story was just ok. I love the characters but I personally felt there was not a lot of forward movement. I just wanted more to the story, more time developing characters. It felt very rushed. Also, while this novella at least makes it palatable, I really dislike the pregnancy trope. This definitely should not be read if you have not read the rest of the series. On its own, the story is ok. However, when I do my next reread of this book universe I would read again.
I usually avoid Pregnancy Tropes like the plague, but 11 books into this series had me invested! I was also fairly certain there wouldn't be any problems (aka miscarriage is an automatic DNF for me) and I was right! It's adorable, light hearted humor, and a great pallet cleanser from the non stop action of the prior 10 books.
Alessa sells the novella completely accurately: it's a delightful bridge from the previous 10 books to set up the new Goddess series of books. It contains spoilers for everything prior so don't read it as a stand alone. It's also a wonderful set up for the next set of books with a whole host of new character introductions.
I'm absolutely thrilled there's going to be new books in this series. It's a top favorite for a reason!
This was such a cute novella. Persephone finds out she’s pregnant, freaks out and runs away to follow Isis’s call. Isis has created an isle of lost goddesses to advise and help other women. All the goddesses that the patriarchy has tried to wipe from the record or rewrite in history. I adore the emphasis on women empowering women and honestly, Hades could have handled this much worse than he did. It was fun seeing all the gods come together for the birth but they need to just deal with Osiris. Seriously. Also I am intensely intrigued by a god who would make Hades hesitate to step wrong. Who the hell is this guy? I hope we see him and Isis again.
When I saw that there was a new novella in the gods world created by Alessa Thorn I just had to read it. Opening up for a new series- The Lost Goddesses, Persephone brought back the characters we know and love from Court of the Underworld and Gods of the Duat whilst introducing more gods from a wider pantheon. Loved this novella and can’t wait to read more! As ever this delivered urban Romantasy with a dose of spice and mythology retelling.
This was a cute read, and I'm excited to see where the new series goes from here, but there isn't really a lot here to discuss.
Persephone is worried about being a mother because her mom was an awful one. Hades is worried Persephone will leave him. Hermes is ruffling everyone's feathers, especially Thoth's.
I look forward to seeing more Isis, Bellona, Laverna, and Eris. And others if we are lucky.
Overall, a cute popcorn book. Hopefully the twins show up some in later books.
I know this is a filler to bridge the previous books to the next set and it did that job pretty well. But the writing wasn’t on par with Alessa’s other books and it was tough to read for so short of a novella. I hated the pregnancy thing but that’s a personal preference so I don’t hold that against the book, I just think this one was a bit blah. at least it was short!
Cute little story that gives you another glimpse into Persephone and Hades’ life. A bit heavy on the writers personal views on the rights of babies in the womb. Felt a bit more politically motivated than it was about the story. Minus that the story opens the door for the adventures of many more gods and goddesses, which I look forward to exploring.
I understand this was a novella to bridge to a new series (or continuation of an existing series). But this felt too forced. I did enjoy the cameos of all the characters. Looking forward to Bellona's book!
I really love this world, I love the characters and the plot lines, I just wish it was longer I could keep reading and reading. I hope the next book arrives quickly for my next fix
A sweet slice of life story set in the gods universe from Alessa Thorn. We get to see all the characters from previous booksso if you are a fan. This is definitely for you!
This was so dang cute. I love how it bridged to books and the found family of Gods from all countries was just perfection. Alessa has a way with words and is excellent at making you feel like part of the family. Overall this is a must read!
I was so excited to see the Gods series continue, and this did not disappoint. Truly enjoyed all my favorite characters' appearances along with glimpses to new characters from other pantheon. Cannot wait to see where this series takes us.
I loved it so much! It was such a lovely story and I loved seeing all the characters together and happy. I can't wait to read the stories of the new characters and I already know I will adore each one of them.
I love this series. You never know what mischief each of them will get up to. Now we have two new babies are going to get up to. I cannot wait until the terrible twos hit. LOL
This book is the author’s opinions on having children, loosely wrapped in a story. Personally, I do not agree with her at all, and found this largely disturbing.
It's been a while since I've read anything by AT, I know her books are fast paced but this one felt rushed. This novella is a bridging book to the next God series, all the old gods make an appearance and lots of "new" gods introduced. It was an ok read but definitely not up to AT usual standard.
Hades and Persephone are my favourites from the Greek gods… ok one of my favourite, I actually love them all madly, but they did deserve a novella and this one was great. Can’t wait for the next book.
The Persephone in the Hades book vs this Persephone cannot be the same because that’s the only reasonable explanation for my dislike. Also I knew pregnancy was to be expected but I still got the ick & confirmation that the pregnancy trope is still a no for me. Oy what a disappointment.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
i loved this little short transition from the most recent gods (egyptian) to the lost goddesses portion!! seeing everyone again post all bad things was great and to be introduced to potential head liners even if it was revolving all around her pregnancy
