This book suffers from middle book syndrome not the middle of the series but the middle of the final arc of the series. The book is all about setting up the finale and revealing the final plot tread mysteries, unfortunately the mystery revealed was one of my least favorite twist tropes and it really spoiled my excitement for the finale.

Synopsis: According to the author, this is the penultimate book in the series. The story really picks up here as we find Theresa, Sousuke, and the remnants of Mithril racing Leonardo and his Amalgam cohorts to the ruins of a secret research facility in remote Siberia. Theresa hopes if they can reach it first that they fill find a clue to give them the upper hand in their struggle against Amalgam. However, none of them are prepared for the secrets that they find there, and what the facility has to do with the true secret of the Whispered...

Review: In reading this volume, my respect for Gatoh Shoji as an author greatly increased. Here we finally get an explanation as to what exactly the Whispered are, and what the true source of the futuristic Black Technology really is. Here Gatoh shows that everything from the series really does tie together as he intended it from the beginning, and he doesn't have to resort to any retconning to make everything fit together cohesively.

Also the last act of the book has one of the best Crowning Moments of Awesome I've ever read.

10 is a win for the enemy

What a stressful read! I was on the edge of my seat (figuratively speaking) for almost the entire book. So many twists and turns and we have finally found out the big secret behind the whispered. In so doing, the situation has become worse for our protagonists. The advantage has slipped to the enemy and left us in the dark about the fate of some characters. And oh, the pain of Sousuke being reunited with Kaname too late and her slipping back into the enemy's hands not only willingly but as the main tool for destruction....I have to read the next book immediately!

Bueno esperar 10 volúmenes para poder entender este mundo fue demasiado. En esta novela fue que dieron a entender cómo era la situación. Fue bastante largo la espera para entender.

"Death was a part of human life"

'Approaching Nick of Time' is the 10th book in the series, and the end is nigh. Mysteries about 'Whispered' was reavealed, and an irritated plot twist happened. Seriously, wtf has happened in that room that made Chidori changed her mind?

After some really serious books, this time readers were treated with some nice comedy moments, but then, well, tragedy followed right after. I was really annoyed by the twist, but the flawless final act made me rated this book 5 stars, the first time I did for a book in this series. It has one of the most awesome moments I have ever read in novels, that battle between snipers - teacher and student :'( now let's see how the battle between another couple of teacher & student, Sousuke and Kalinin, in final book (I guess?) can top this?
