Divided into six clear and easy to follow sections focusing on topics such as liver, Own Your Body bridges the gap between medical jargon and everyday life. Whether you're facing a health scare or just striving for a better lifestyle, Dr. Sarin's wisdom shines through, empowering readers to take charge of their health.
This book is like one of those movies where entire movie is boring except the ultimate fight. Barring section seven of this book, it feels like it's a repetitive of same message in different scenarios.
Section seven is what hooked me to the book and so rated accordingly. Having said all these, it is a book which gives a perspective for an individual who wants to course correct own life health wise.
A simple, easy to understand book which underscores the importance of taking one’s health seriously.
I love how Dr Sarin is not bombastic in his approach to health and refrains from using verbose medical science terminology. He uses practical examples of his dealings with patients in highlighing why one should be vigilant about one’s body and health.
This is a beautifully written book intended for lay audience like myself. It's a hallmark of a brilliant mind to present complex ideas in very simple terms. Dr Sarin is one of the best liver specialists in India and it's his genius that has made the subject of liver health so easy to understand.
Dr Sarin lays out 21 prototype patients and discusses their cases in detail. The reader is likely to fit in one or more of those prototypes. You can then see what's likely to work best for you.
I recommend this book for all the health conscious people around.
First I would like to thank Dr. Sarin for writing such a wonderful book. Before reading this book I have very little knowledge about liver health. This is really a wonderful book and now I'm on a mission to inform the writings of this book to the people I come across. I think this book should be read by everyone and if you wanna gift something to your dear and near ones please give them this beautiful book. I think after reading this book many of us would thank to Dr. Sarin for writing this book and would try to improve their life and health. I would recommend this book to everyone.
Truly life-saving tips. The greatest tip is to use medicine as a last resort, not the first or second. Changing lifestyle is foremost. Must read for everyone. There is no need to run to a doctor for everything.
Dr Shiv Sarin's 'Own Your Body' is a truly enriching read, brimming with 'Today I Learned' moments. Here's what resonated with me: * Research-Based Guidance: In an age saturated with misinformation and dubious sources, Dr. Sarin's advice stands out for being firmly rooted in current, credible research. This evidence-based approach lends significant weight to his recommendations.
* Compelling Case Studies: The book employs a case study method, drawing from Dr. Sarin's real clinical experiences. This approach is reminiscent of Oliver Sacks' insightful work, such as 'The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.' Presenting information through relatable stories makes the content more engaging and memorable.
* Practical Actionable Tips: Each chapter concludes with actionable tips, transforming the experience of reading a health-focused book into a comprehensive journey from theoretical understanding to practical application.
Potential Consideration: While personally not an issue, some readers might find Dr. Sarin's frequent use of terms like 'fat,' 'fair,' and 'not manly enough' potentially sensitive. This is particularly relevant in contemporary discourse, where language politics and word choices are closely scrutinized.
This book talks about things that are common knowledge in this era. However, it is very impactful as the author, who is a reputed hepatologist, gives objective information, specifically referring to Asian and Indian populations, and quotes studies to support his statements. He has precise answers to common questions. eg. ideal weight is the height (cm) minus 100 for men and 105 for women. The ideal BMI should be less than 23. WH ratio should be less than 0.9 in men and 0.8 in women. He advises taking fatty liver and gallstones seriously. He gives lifelines: exercising, eating right at the right time, having a mindful dinacharya and restful sleep, and avoiding taking medications unnecessarily. This book is well summarised in 10 points at the end.
A doctor, who is also an entrepreneur is trying to inspire health-conscious Indians. Heard him on a media show, liked his appreciation for Fasting & fiber (prebiotic). He is sharing 21 anecdotes. Writing 21 anecdotes requires decades of experience. But, I missed topic of Insulin index, probiotic, epigenetics, Neuroplasticity. Reader of this reviewer can enlighten themselves by reading Heal Book (Kelly Gores)
A book that shows the cost of not paying attention to the body. The book written with real life examples, shows various challenges that people are facing and the resolves they took to solve them.
If I were to summarise -
1 - Have body weight less than your ideal weight 2 - You can only earn a good body by investing in it, you cannot buy a body. 3 - Practise good dinacharya, eat healthy and on time, and sleep on time.
