Gwyn Li survived assault and abduction in UNFURL, and now she’s more than ready for a little happily ever after with her seventeenth century crush, Chrétien de Rochefort. As Chrétien spins tales from his background as Cinderella’s original prince charming, he casts an even deeper spell on Gwyn. But Fritz Gottlieb, son of arch-nemesis Helmann, is still hot on the trail of Helmann’s secrets and comes up with a more deadly way to use Gwyn to get what he wants. And if Fritz succeeds, Gwyn won’t be doing any midnight dancing with anyone.
Visible is book 4 in Cidney Swanson’s Ripple series and picks up where book 3 Unfurl left off with Gwyn Li stranded in France after being rescued from the clutches of Helmann by Chretien, a refugee from the 17th century, and the rest of the gang.
When Fritz, Helmann’s last remaining son, hatches a nefarious plan to take control of the remaining Sleepers it thrusts Gwyn back into danger. Will she survive? Will Chretien be able to protect the Li family from Fritz’s dastardly plot?
I have to be honest and say that I haven’t read books 1-3 in the series (yet) so I was relying on the author including any relevant back story in this one where required and I wasn’t disappointed.
The plot moves along at a fair pace and the main characters (Gwyn & Chretien) are given a good amount of depth with their characterisation.
I particularly like the way that Chretien’s background is revealed in a series of ‘fairy tales’ he tells to Gwyn as the story unfolds.
This is an action, adventure, Sci-Fi, romance and family drama all rolled into one and even the book cover is cool.
I’d recommend this for Young Adults or anyone interested in Sci-Fi or Time Travel based fiction
when a reader can go from laughter to tears and back, the story has become real. The characters are so much a part of the reader's imagination they are like friends. Yet, to be honest, the ending felt contrived. For feelings to appear so conveniently, as bad as I wanted the ending I read, I felt cheated. Where were the clues? How did the male protagonist go from being a polite gentleman to madly in love with a girl who just realized who she was a few minutes earlier? Believe me, the book is too good to let that stop you from reading this book!

I loved Gwyn Li's story more than Samantha's! I think because it's much lighter and also because Chrétien was there. He's a cool guy, and I loved reading the fairy tale. One thing that kept me reading this book was because I wanted to know how Gwyn related to the Chameleon. There're plenty of possibilities, and I kept on thinking the answer while reading the book. Could it be that Gwyn's father was what causing it, or maybe she's the reincarnation of Chrétien's wife? However, when I got to the last page, I still couldn't find the explanation. I hope I'll get it from the next book.
It's been a long time coming and I am glad Gwyn finally got some clarification. Although I was in love with the way Sam and Will's story came together, this new love is my kind of love. I am absolutely delighted that Gwyn's relationship with her mother is blossoming. One thing I am super curious about is, " What is going on with Phiffer and Mick? " That means, I need to get to the next book in the series.
I enjoyed this book, a hi d of follow on, yet also stand-alone to the Ripple series. Fun, interesting, interesting and oh so humorous. This book had me laughing out loud. Wonderful!
Interesting stories. I enjoy her characters. Find I am thinking about them long after I've finished the book. Then I find she has written more books, and I just have to read them too.
Well.. It quotes Aslan, so it gets 0.5 stars more for that hehe. I felt it was a cute story, but basically just an additional part of the series to give Gwyn a story, but not of real weight for the serias as a whole.
The bad guys will not go away and the mysteries developing as side stories grow larger as this tale continues to develop. Why can't there be and yes thankfully there is not a rippler gene.
I was skeptical about this next book in the series. I thought everything had closure in book 3. Continuing with a different character's perspective was kind of brilliant. I loved Gwyni's thought process considering she's not a Rippler. She's a bit impulsive , but always trying to keep people smiling. Her speaking in third person concerning her many selves...too funny. Her character narrative was such a great addition, as were all the characters. Her pursuit of love was both comical and sweet. I laughed more in this book. Chretien was adorable trying to understand so much. This is not just a love story. It has drama, bad guys, kidnapping, a lot going on. I love being surprised by a book. Well Done!
Well, I am hooked on the Rippler books. But, this particular one wasn't quite as good as the first three. Why you ask? Because it was told from a different person's point of view from the first three books. And I loved the first three books because of Sam's spin on things. And I didn't get to hear from Will and Sam a lot during this book. And, Sam and Will together are amazinggggg! It was like the second best thing in all the books I have read so far. But, I liked that this book had Gwyn's humor, an Gwyn's spin on things was actually really interesting. But, I didn't get the Will and Sam an that killed me in the beginning but I got used to it at some point. I was so afraid to finish it but I did. This book kept me guessing, like the rest of the books I have read so far. But sometimes I could predict where the plot was going, because I just know books well I guess. It wasn't necessarily "Predictable", but I could still guess what was going on next. If you are debating on continuing to read this book because you think it's boring, stick it out til the end because the ending is amazing. Just saying. It will be worth it, trust me. I hope that we get more of Sam and Will in the books to come because I love them together. And note to the author, Note: We need a ship name for Will and Sam.
I found this book a little more enjoyable than the others because the focus of the author switched and many secondary characters from previous books became the focus of this story. This helped a lot with the development of these characters and I enjoyed reading about their backgrounds.
Visible
——————————————-
Sam and her friend Gwyn have finally managed to escape from the clutches of the evil Fritz and they believe him to be defeated. Gwyn is also living her “happily ever after” with Chretin and can’t wait to return to her normal life. However, Fritz has other plans.
Fritz plans to use Chretin’s memories against him in order to get him to cooperate with the gene testing that his father was attempting to do. Chretin becomes wary of everyone around him and eventually gets stuck in his past, giving Fritz what he wants. Gwyn, on the other hand, is nervous that her love for Chretin will forever remain unrequited for as long as he is stuck in his past.
Gwyn’s plans to help Chretin move on go disastrously wrong and Fritz discovers even more ways to hurt Chretin using memories of his late wife and child. Moreover, Fritz creates a serum that takes away people’s ability to ripple, or turn invisible, and he wants someone to test it on…
Well, that's sad. I am officially out of Cidney Swanson books to read. This was such a fun romp. After finishing all the Saving Mars I could find, I decided to read this fourth book of the Rippler series. This one was from the best friend, Gwen's point of view. That caught me off guard at first. I hadn't read the rest of the series for a while so I felt I missed something. But after reading reviews and blurbs I finally got back on track and enjoyed the rest of the book.
This story is more fantasy, though, I suppose there is an element of science here, it felt much more the fairy-tale. In fact, you will find a few fairy-tales retold in this book that were very apropos to the plot and characters. Speaking of plot and characters, Ms. Swanson did her usual believable, lovable characters in an enchanting, exciting story.
For me, Visible wasn't as fun as the space sci-fi of Mars, but the Rippler series does offer enough adventure to help me ease back to other books and stories. Visible is aimed at young adult. Saving Mars didn't feel dedicated to one group or another. Oh, and though there wasn't a cliffhanger and all plot strings were clean up, there was enough left that should she decide to, Cidney could write more to this series. I look forward to reading more!
I've always loved Swanson's Ripple series, and Visible was no exception. This book was different from others in the series in that it is told entirely from Gwen's perspective. Gwen has always been a favorite character of mine: I love her sass, wit, and humor. I love the way she looks at life and how adaptable she is. She's also a cat person, which makes me like her even more. The plot from the other books in the Ripple series continued in Visible, but it wasn't the entire focus of the book. For me, the main focus was Gwen and her love life and personal growth. I loved that aspect of this story, especially the historical fairy-tale element. The issue of the 'sleepers' was a huge part of the story, of course, but it took a backseat to Gwen's happiness (at least for me). The only thing I didn't like about Visible was that it felt slow at times. Overall, it was a great read and I look forward to the next installment in the Ripple series! Bonus: this series is very clean and that's refreshing.
Compared with the first three books in the Rippler series, this book was disappointing. The entire book was dedicated to Sam's best friend Gwyn's point of view, and I gotta say that while she had some strong qualities in the first three books, in this one she seemed way more superficial (despite hearing her voice and opinions more loudly). I found Gwyn's constant pining for Chrètian annoying and sophomoric.
This was excellent. I bought it because Swanson's Rippler series was so well done. I especially enjoy her use of historical and fictional references and every-day color to flesh out the story. Like the other three books, Visible moves at a nice pace while also being both thrilling and moving. Sometimes I have to slow myself down to take it all in properly. Chapters end at a point that makes you turn the page, but each book ends exactly where it should. Very satisfying read.
I’m very glad I read this book. I read the “trilogy,” and I don’t usually read “extra” books after a trilogy, but I loved this series, and wasn’t ready to stop reading if there was more to read. This book continued and fleshed-out the trilogy. I’m so happy the author wasn’t finished with these characters. I will certainly read more by this author. And I am pleased that the editing was nearly perfect.
After reading the first three books in this series I am thrilled that my expectations were met in this one. Of course I have now got to read book five, and will probably not stop until I have read the whole series. Thank you for giving me a new science fantasy series I can enthuse about.
I really enjoyed reading this book through the eyes of Gwen Li who is not a rippler. She's best friends with Samantha and Will. And of course, she has fallen in love with a rippler from another century.
Gwyn takes the lead as narrator in the 4th book of the ripple series. her voice and tone is lighter and more fun than Sam's. Following the adventures of the ripplers from a "visible" point of view was a nice change. I found Hellman's children rather flat as bad guys.
Though I enjoyed the first few Ripple books, I found this one to be a little repetitive and just overall "blah." Gwyn's POV did nothing for me. Christian's historical tales were a bright spot, but I'm still not planning to continue reading this series.
Despite all of the books I have on my Kindle I cannot wait to sink my teeth into the next book in this series. These stories have something for everyone
Parts of this book were really good and parts of it were kind of dragged out and iffy, now that the story is kind of moving away from the action and the the excitement I am sort of losing interest.
