This trilogy is the continuation of the Curse Trilogy. If you've not yet read the Curse Trilogy (Gifted Curse, Forgotten Curse, & Lifted Curse), then Secret Gifts may have parts that are hard to follow.
All grown up and ready to take on life, Aria Banner is facing the world her parents desperately sought to shelter her from. Centuries of oppression caused by the hands of her well-intended but smothering parents has left her with a hunger to prove herself. Just as badly as she wishes to move up in the United, she also wants to find that connection she grew up watching between her mother and father.
Being at war with the Unaligned makes it a little difficult to worry about her romantic life, but sometimes fate has a way of forcing you to pay attention.
Jase Ericson didn't intend to stumble upon the beauty he had only ever heard whispers of. When Aria locks eyes on the secretive full blood, she's instantly entranced - much to her surprise. The only problem is, she doesn't want to go through the same thing her mother once did.
Jase's secretive air makes him mysterious, intriguing, and exciting... until she learns the secrets he holds.
Awesome book! This is a continuing series of the Curse series (which was another awesome set!). Even though it is a continuance, the main character has her own story and the previous books are not continuously rehashed. I have read books by other authors that have multiple series going and you get the feeling that you are pretty much reading the same book and the name of the characters are just different. This is not so with any of C.M. Owens books. When you start a new series, you are getting a whole new series that are not like any of her other books. I admire her and her work for that, obviously because I own all of her books up-to-date. The characters are well written and the plot is awesome. If your the type of person that falls into the story and feel you are apart of it then C.M. Owens books are for you! Her books leave you wanting more and she delivers without making you feel cheated. She also makes her sequels in a pretty good pace and you do not have to wait years for the next one.
I love this book. it is awesome the way it continues from the first trilogy. I can't wait to see how Aria grows and evolves. hurry up and publish the second book please!
This brilliant spin-off is the counterpart of ‘The Curse Trilogy’. They complement each other perfectly in spite of the big-seven-centuries gap between them! Well written, unique and exceptional!
We first read about Aria when she was a little girl from the previous series, and she was seriously a late bloomer with no control over her power, considering she was born over 700 years ago! But, it's for a reason and also a way to satisfy Brazen's team, because Brazen wouldn't have his HEA if the story weren't fast forward.
Aria was a bright lady, but when she was with Jace, she was blind. It was apparent who Jace was and also his mind-reading ability! It was hilarious and entertaining to read Jace's reaction towards Aria's inner thought 😂😂.
Comparing this book to the previous series, I loved Aria's story more than Araya! The story was well executed with romance, mystery and actions. I couldn't wait to find out what Aria's fate would be. Would she suffer the same destiny as her mother in terms of her love life? Team Aralian go!
I dive point blank into this book because who doesn't trust Owens and her books? But I miss the point where this one is a kind of sequel which made me very much confused during the beginning of the book despite my grasp on the outline of the stories minus the detail (which may or may not be major).
My only complain would be the FMC, she is strong but kind of reckless and too whiny for my liking. In some part, I can relate a lot to her character but on the other I hate how dramatic she is in some scenes. She literally saw the signs but chose to not connect the dots and then be upset when the obvious is revealed.
I've read better books by this author it just reads a bit clunky. I sort of like Ari, but I did like Jase and I don't see why she was so upset with him. Could do with one more proof reading.
Aria has too many people holding secrets from her and who is the masked man. I really hope she starts using some kick ads powers soon. I want to know who these men are at the end of book one.
I love most of CM’s books, buy Aria was a little too whiny for my taste in this one. Easily loving, then hating, just a yo-yo of emotion. It was an interesting premise and I’m curious to see how it plays out!
This is such a great spinoff series. Being Hale and Araya's daughter, Arias is definitely one of a kind and her story will shock you at every turn. She's not quite what anyone expected. Her story is so much more different than Araya and has so many new and amazing characters that you will also fall in love with. This is my third time re-reading this series and it was just as hard to put down as the first time.
Loved this spin off of the curse series. There is a lot of set up going on in this book for the rest of the series. I liked that while it followed the same world and general story of the curse series it’s also completely different. There is however a huge mess up where a secret is gives away before it’s supposed to be given away. It wasn’t a big deal for me because I had already caught on but the author may want to fix that for future readers.
So when we left off with the prior series we see a world of wonder and love and assume this girl is going to be loved and cared for. What happens when you love someone too much and suffocate their ability... Aria is a strong lead with her own insecurities who meets Jase and a mystery man... Another triangle perhaps?? This is a must read if you've read the prior curse trilogy, great books!
I gave three stars only because it ended too soon and the ending was messy. Too much going on all of a sudden in the last 3 to 4 pages. I don't know if I'll continue and pay for the next book after the way this one was so crazily ended.
Like mother like daughter! Aralia' story is a wonderful one! I love how she's still incorporated with her mom Araya but still her own story. Couldn't put this down, and I ordered the other two so I can keep going! Love it!
Aria and Jase- swoon!!! I have to admit I was a little heartbroken when I realized it was 700 years since the Cursed Trilogy ended. But thank you C.M. Owens for making sure Hale was always remembered!!!!
I love this spin off series. The author does a great job of keeping the old characters in the background and bringing forward new and exciting characters. Wonderful read!
Wow, what a start to a story. I love the mystery surrounding people and all the little secrets that are hidden beneath the surface. This book is just as good as the cursed ones. I'm looking forward to swing how it all unveils.
