"Plato's account contains precise references to the catastrophic global flooding that followed the end of the last ice age and peaked at the exact date he gives for the drowning of Atlantis. The occult traditions of Atlantis tell a radically different story, a story of technology run wild amid a desperate struggle for the soul of a dying civilization... "
The Ultimate QuestionThe legend of Atlantis―a lost civilization drowned beneath the waters of the Atlantic Ocean―has inspired controversy for more than two thousand years, and remains a hot topic even today.
Join occult historian John Michael Greer on a journey through time in search of one of the great mysteries of the past. Starting with the original versions of the Atlantis story in the dialogues of Plato, Greer tracks the Atlantis myth from the hidden lodges of occult secret societies, through the freewheeling debates of the alternative history scene, to the latest scientific discoveries about the prehistoric past.
In light of newspaper headlines about global warming and the future of industrial society, Greer poses the ultimate question―is the legend of Atlantis a legacy of the distant past, or a prophecy of our own future?
Atlantis includes practical lessons in scrying (remote viewing) as well as a call to action for "seedbearers" ― individuals who will help preserve the cultural, scientific, and practical legacies of the past and present through the coming planetary changes.

Hidden Prophecy By John Michael Greer (Non-Fiction) When I started reading this book I thought it was going to be another New Agey book about the Mythical land of Atlantis. What I got was something completely different. Greer does take the reader through how the story Atlantis came into the the historical narrative from the writings of Plato. He went on to tell the reader how the story of Atlantis was brought into the modern consciousness by the Occult writers in the 1800's. He compared them to what Plato had written in his works. The legend of Atlantis has been mostly viewed as mythical fantasy. How could an entire continent disappeared under the ocean. This could never have happened. Greet takes a different look at what could have occurred. He went back to science and what we really know about earth changes during that time frame. He was able to give credible proof of how such a large land mass could disappear so quickly. This leads to his modern day warning for us. What caused the Atlantis to disappear did have to the melting of the ice sheets and releasing of methane gas through the Earth's warming. Sound familiar?
I love that this book exists. Thanks Mr. Greer! I recommend anyone read this book to find out some more vocabulary about the climate crisis from a slightly different angle than you may have encountered into before.
I loved this book, at least in part because it helped me dispense with so much hokum about Atlantis in general. I now feel that I have a strong foundation to talk about Atlantis without delving into flights of fancy; and that I can dissuade people from reading too much into the legends about a sunken civilization beneath the waves.
A good book that details well the history, mainly Occult, of Atlantis. A bit on the boring side, unless you're using this book for research or pulling out a nugget or two that you couldn't find elsewhere. Another good book along these lines Arktos by Godwin > https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4....
This book wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It started with a good premise, but the storytelling is bland. The climactic points could have been drawn out little and provided more of a "draw you in" narrative. I just felt the writing itself was not fleshed out well. The characters were unrelatable and the technology haphazardly mixed in with spirituality lacked depth. I choose not to pursue the remainder of the series.
