State Representative Lisa Elizondo is a force to be reckoned with. She’s newly elected to the state legislature and she hasn’t lost her optimism about working in politics.
What she does have is a formidable opponent in State Senator Paul Price. She doesn’t know why, but from her first week in office, they’ve been like oil and water.
When the opportunity comes for her to propose a bill that could make big changes in the state, she knows she only has two options: propose it by herself and watch it sit in a committee forever or find someone with more experience to help her.
When Paul hears about Lisa’s bill he knows it’s something he can support, even from across the aisle. The only problem is the person writing it.
Can they set aside their differences and create real change in Wisconsin?
***Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Office Romance, Political Romance
***Content Warnings: The entire subplot of this novella is two politicians working to pass reproductive rights legislation…, light discussion of parental bullying, sexism toward female main character, bullying
An expansion of Lisa Elizondo and Paul Price's story that was originally shared in the Girls Just Wanna Have Fundamental Rights charity anthology.
This reminded me of a Wattpad story in the best way possible. It was such a quick and easy read with the perfect amount of spice. I feel the writer portrayed the characters very well, and dealt very well with the situation they were put in.
I really did enjoy this, so much so that I feel it could have been a bit longer. I wanted more of their story, after they get together, and I would have loved more build up for them !!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you Cecelia for this ARC.
Lisa Elizondo is the first woman and youngest person ever to be elected as State Representative. She wants to reform Wisconsin’s health care system. State Senator Paul Price, an unlikely ally, offers her support.
My absolute favourite trope: Enemies to lovers. The story is told in double POV, which I enjoyed. It was easy to relate to Lisa and actually like Paul. The cynical dialogue between them is funny. I like how they grow to each other trying to achieve the same goal, while still behaving like stubborn teenagers to each other. Normally it would annoy me, but thanks to their backstory, chemistry and their own separate thoughts, it was refreshing. I also liked how Cecelia implemented the importance of family and the struggles family can bring. It was a fast and enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to read the rest of the series.
This novella was excellent! Normally, when using the enemies to lovers trope, I prefer books to be longer for the slow burn, but Cecelia Conway is a master of building tension and swoon worthy relationships.
This novella is interesting in that it’s underlying themes do deal with quite a controversial topic with reproductive rights, but I found the story to have quite a nice balance with the main story and these underlying themes as well.
I’m quickly becoming a very very big fan of Conway’s books and I can’t wait to read the second novella in this series!
As always, please make sure you are checking the trigger warnings for this or any other book that you are planning on reading before you pick it up.
Bridging the Divide is the first novella in the Capitol Shorts series by Cecelia Conway, featuring an enemies to lovers political romance for Lisa and Paul. I usually don’t like to read stories with political leanings, but that aspect of this book was not overwhelming or preachy. I enjoyed the characters, the tension and chemistry between them, and I look forward to reading the next book!
4.5; This short was a wonderful mix of workplace romance and 'The West Wing'. In a very short time you grow invested in not only the characters, but the bill they are working on. I think my favorite part is the sneaky best friend, because let's face it, we all have one!
