POWER BEYOND COMPREHENSIONIn the dramatic finale of the ANOTHER KIND series, Maddie and her loved ones are confronted with an unfathomable catastrophe that endangers all intelligent life.

While residing on Aria to help mold the Arian society into a democracy, Maddie and Gino, along with Gwen and Zach, experience an ominous, unexplained incident.

They investigate and soon realize that a change of cataclysmic proportions has transpired on Aria. The forces behind it are powerful beyond anything they’ve ever known, and the threat extends far beyond Aria. Maddie and her friends must act.

Resolved to end the tragedy or die trying, the Teacher embarks on a journey of his own, seeking help from an old friend who undoubtedly has insight into the problem.

Everyone is pushing the limits of their abilities to avert disaster. In the end, however, only one has the power to intervene. And it would take a miracle for that to happen.

Steven Decker is the author of many novels, including the bestselling Time Chain series and Child of Another Kind. His love of writing was born on the day he threw a spitball at one of his 5th-grade classmates. Rather than punish him, his wise old teacher, Mrs. Brewer, called Steven to the front of the class and handed him a book of poetry. She quietly instructed him to memorize “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” by Robert Frost and informed him that he would be reciting the poem in front of the class the following day. Mrs. Brewer hit a home run.

Inspired by Frost’s ability to paint a picture and generate deep emotion with the written word, Steven fell in love with reading, writing, and storytelling. As an 8th grader, he read the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, for fun. It wasn’t a homework assignment. As a student at the University of Virginia, he was thrilled at the prospect of writing a thesis as the culmination of his undergraduate studies. While traveling the world for work, Steven kept writing, and his experiences around the globe have influenced his novels in many ways.

When living in Appalachia while writing his first novel, Steven studied and practiced the art of storytelling. Since that time, he always edits his books by reading them aloud to himself. Novels are a story and need to sound like one. Fiction readers want to escape from their everyday lives when they read a novel. Thus the true job of a novelist is to imagine special things, sometimes even spectacular things, then write about them in a way that inspires the reader to go there, too, leaving the ordinary behind.

Steven lives and writes in both Arizona and Connecticut and travels throughout the world looking for new ideas and settings for his books. He enjoys spending time with Karen and Mr. Wilson, the beagle, walking in the countryside, and being with his family.

With “Genesis of Another Kind”, Steven Decker wraps his mind-bending Another Kind series in the most satisfying way for the reader. On the one hand, the incredible universe the author has created has infinite possibilities for more stories. While on the other, the characters the readers had invested their time, interest, and emotions in, received a well-deserved closure.

It was a special joy to read about the gift Cynthia received from her beloved. I won’t give out any spoilers. Let me just mention that the journey one of the most likeable – or probably the most likeable – characters in the series begins in the first book doesn’t finish with a dead-end.

In book four of the series, the people who had become friends or even a family during the adventures they went through together in the previous instalments, face the most ominous threat they had encountered so far. And that means something, since the enemies they confronted in the past were nothing but powerful.

Maddie, Gino, Zach, and Gwen must untangle the knot of leads to find out the truth about who or what stands behind the terrifying changes happening all throughout the universe. The scale of these changes speaks volumes of the enormous power their initiator possesses.

Keeping up the fast pace the author has set up in the previous books of the series, Decker pulls the reader into the vibrant array of alien worlds and planets. He also boldly tackles the hot topic of the evolution of the artificial intellect, offering readers to contemplate the risks and the advantages of high-technology development.

The Another Kind series is a real treat for the fans of sci-fi and metaphysical fiction. And “Genesis of Another Kind” is a staggering finale to the amazing series, offering the readers both the satisfying closure to all main plotlines and enough food for the imagination.

Finally finished this series and it’s a mixed bag from me. I loved the sci-Fi, I love the different story elements, and I love the world the author builds across the series. My negatives from every this book haven’t changed…the dialogue. Woof. It’s especially bad here. But that’s no surprise given this series repeated bad dialogue.

Now lets get to Genesis…this book…feels like it didn’t need to happen? Almost half the book is back story to the “bad guys” who appear at the beginning of the story and they lose because…reasons??? Literally there is no explanation for how Maddie saved the day. There were hints at a higher power earlier in the book but nope…nothing. Everyone and everything that went wrong in the book is poof fixed in the blink of an eye. Literally nothing happens in this book. In the finale of a four book series…oiii.

I’m not sure I would recommend this series after finishing this book, which stinks because Gods of Another Kind was really good but Genesis really stumbles and ruins the overall reading experience. Sigh.

interesting and thought provoking

The characters in this series are complex and grow as the series progresses. The arc of the story challenges good and evil in a way I had not encountered previously. I’m glad I bought the books as I will be rereading them at least once.

A very good ending

It just didn't hold my interest, felt choppy. I would liked to know more about the teacher and his developing feelings.
