Janna Kauffman enjoys her job as a personal shopper for the homebound in her Amish community. But when Janna's niece, Meghan, comes to live with her family, part of a plan by Janna's sister to rid her daughter of her rebellious ways, Janna spends less time shopping and more time explaining Meghan's erratic behavior to local police officer Hiram "Troy" Troyer, who was raised Amish but left the faith after a fatal accident that killed his brother and also a brother of Janna's. Frequent interactions draw Janna and Troy together, rekindling an attraction they first experienced in their youth. What will become of their relationship? And will headstrong Meghan ever tame her ways?

I could hardly set this book down! For a romantic at heart such as myself, this book was everything I want in a story. There is attraction, romance, secrets, guilt, forgiveness and a troubled teenage cousin constantly needing supervision. What more could you ask for?
Janna and Troy are both such likeable characters. An Amish young woman and a formerly Amish young man, separated by the fact that he jumped the fence years earlier for reasons known only to him. When they meet up again years later, the attraction that was once there between them hums to life. But how can a relationship work between them? I just loved that the author has the attraction zinging between the main characters within the first few pages of the book and it just keeps growing throughout the chapters.
This story had great twists and turns. It is book two in the Amish of Webster County series. I really enjoyed book one, Healing Love. But I have to say that I absolutely adored this book! What a great series. I look forward to reading the next book, Awakened Love.
Surrendered Love is a book that touched my heart deeply. While I know it is fiction it contains a wonderful message. The main characters in this book Janna Kauffman and Troy (Hiram) Troyer are both searching for love.
Troy is harboring secrets from the past. Will he be able to seek forgiveness from God and those he caused deep hurt? Can he forgive himself?
Will Janna be able to accept Troy's hidden secrets and forgive him?
This book caused me to stop and ponder about my past. Have I truly forgiven myself? I know my God has forgiven me but have I truly let past issues go?
By the end of this book tears blocked my vision as I tried to read. I like to think they were healing tears. The author Laura V Hilton never fails to challenge me in the books she writes. God is working through her and using her to share the "Good News". Thank you Laura for touching my heart through your books!
I loved reading this one! I couldn't put it down -- finished reading at 3:45 AM. I don't know where Laura Hilton learned how to write a kiss, but I wish my hubby could recreate it!
Laura V. Hilton artfully creates a poignant Amish tale of forbidden love and tragedy in this heart pounding narrative. "Surrendered Love" reveals a previously unspoken attraction between the bishop's daughter and a young, formerly Amish policeman, that threatens verboten passion as they acknowledge their intense feelings for one another. The beauty of the Amish farms and countryside are pictorial, and present the backdrop for this story of a young Amish couple seeking common ground.
The author presents a beautiful story of love and desire between her characters that continues to escalate. A poorly behaved Englisch niece adds numerous complications to the lives of the characters in this story. Past trauma, bad judgment and guilt are brought to the surface and openly examined. Those past mistakes and guilt are dealt with through the love and mercy of God and His forgiveness. Honesty and accountability are two qualities that stand out in this story of errors in judgment and the ensuing consequences and guilt that accompany those errors, both in actions and in perception. This is a beautifully crafted story of complexities in human nature, and the ways that faith and forgiveness bring beauty from ashes. Breathtaking, remarkable and unpredictable Amish fiction!
I highly recommend "Surrendered Love" if you love Amish fiction, or romantic fiction. This is the second in a series, but is also a wonderful stand alone book.
Book two in the Amish of Webster County Series, introduces us to Janna Kauffman. She has a job as a personal shopper for the Amish in her community. She loves her job, but is dismayed at the trouble her niece Meghan is getting into. This trouble re-connect Janna with an old friend Troy Troyer. A former Amish man who left the faith after the death of his brother and Janna's brother. A story of two people learning to deal with their own issues, while trying to help a troubled girl. This story will keep you fascinated. An avid fan of Laura's books, I promise this book will not disappoint you on any level. A beautiful story, with believable characters it is a book to include in your personal library. While this book is book two of a series, it easily can stand alone with nothing being lost in no reading book one. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Amish romance writer Laura V. Hilton, of Horseshoe Bend, AR is a pastor’s wife, stay-at-home mother of five, homeschooler, breast cancer survivor and avid blogger. Her passion has long been the mission of Christian fiction, initially as a reviewer, but in the past two years as the author of four successful novels including The Amish of Seymour series (Patchwork Dreams, A Harvest of Hearts, and Promised to Another) and Healing Love, first of The Amish of Webster County. Her books have sold thousands of copies and garnered kudos from reviewers and readers alike with A Harvest of Hearts receiving the 2012 Laurel Award.
MY REVIEW: I really enjoyed this book. With openness and discovery, each character finds out about their own lives and how they can go forward. One of my favorite characters was Meghan. She comes to trust and healing begins. Janna and Troy's families are unique. They reach out and are favorable models of temperament and examples to follow. They are direct but loving. Approachable. Janna and Troy are giving, which is a direct result of the care and love they have been given.
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. --Psalm 73:25-26 KJV
Being received, forgiving and forgiven, the families are able to move on beyond their pain and hurt. It is a good model for today to bring families together when disintegration seems to be all that is known.

Can you imagine two Amish adults meeting unexpectedly in a grocer isle for the first time since their times as young people with a teenage crush? Or was it just a teenage crush? And can it be anything else but that long ago relationship? You see, Janna is still Amish, but Troy left the Amish faith when a tragic accident happened. And then there is the Bishops Granddaughter Meghan that Janna’s family had to deal with, a teenage girl that has her own will and her own way of life, and she doesn’t want anyone in her way.
I love the way Laura Hilton takes situations that seem utterly impossible and shows how God can do anything, when it is in His will. With God, All things are possible when it comes to Laura’s books! I really enjoyed this sweet attraction between Troy and Janna, and despite all of the difficult situations they had to face, it was still heartwarming when these two were together. This is a love story you don’t want to miss! And if you haven’t read any of Laura Hilton’s books, you are really missing a treat! You must start reading her books now!!

My Review:
Topping the first novel in The Amish of Webster County was certainly a task - but Hilton managed to pull it off with a flourish! I didn't particularly care for the fact that the author bring into play the same elements as her last novel - Amish girl versus man with Amish roots. But it's part of the formula that makes the magic happen in these novels, so who am I to judge?
I did enjoy that Hilton brings a completely different flavor to the series, by not serving us the traditional Amish dish. It's not every day that a woman like Janna gets to explain to a former Amishman who is now the law why her niece is getting into so much trouble. With Jenna's father being the bishop, anything can happen, and I was holding my breath throughout the entire novel. It is a beautiful love story that hooks you from the very first page, and like a lover, draws you until you are utterly and completely lost within...
This book was provided by the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review.
This is a new author to me. I don't often purchase paperbacks(since I have a kindle)but while passing the book section in a store the other day saw this book. My reasons for getting it? 1:I loved the cover, 2: It was Amish fiction, which is a big favorite, 3: The description on the back interested me and finally.. Well, I have to admit, the last name got my interest. To say the least, I'm glad that I got it!
Janna Kauffman is the bishop's daughter. She is almost what the Amish community would consider a spinster(in our language). The reason....she lost her heart to an Amish "boy" years before and he jumped the fence(left the Amish community). Since then she's not been interested in another. Troy Troyer is a policeman...now. He once was Hiram Troyer of the Amish community and the boy Janna loved. He admired Janna before he left home and after meeting her again finds he still does. But, there is no way he is returning home. Not with the secret he has. This is complicated by the fact that Janna's English niece is living with the Kaufmann's. She's a teenager and quite rebellious and troubled.
This is the 2nd book in this series. I've no idea if reading them in order makes a difference or not, but it didn't appear so with this book. I will get more of Ms. Hilton's books, if and when I can, be they on kindle or paperback. I loved it.
Laura V Hilton has done it again, another wonderful Amish story. It reinstates the fact that the hardest person to forgive is oneself. Janna Kauffman has become a personal shopper for several people in her Amish Community. While she is shopping she spots someone from her past, or is it him? Hiram "Troy" Troyer, has left his Amish roots and become a policeman. He has some hidden demons that he hasn't dealt with. When he spots Janna, he remembers that he has deep and forgotten feelings for her. Also living with the Kauffman family, are the Bishops Granddaughter Meghan, who keeps them on their toes. She seems so unhappy, and when Troy ends up arresting her for shoplifting, um...she doesn't care much for him. What happens in this mixed up tangle is a delightful read. You won't know what is coming next, and it will keep you turning pages. You will wonder right to the end about Megan, and what comes out is heartbreaking. Will Troy and Janna be able to forge a relationship, or will Jenna become shunned for being with Troy? Will her Dad being a Bishop be able to accept Troy? Especially after??? Enjoy this visit with the Amish community, I did!
I received this book through First Wild Card Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.
I always look forward to Laura's books but this one blew me away! Her writing and story telling keeps getting better and better. This is my favorite story so far!
In Surrendered Love, you will continue along life's amazing and sometimes painful path with Janna, Troy and Meghan. Personal, spiritual and emotional growth occur in perfect harmony with each other in the lives of these exceptional characters.
It's not all fun and games, though. There's meat, too. Guilt and fear often lead a person to do things that they ordinarily wouldn't do, and feel as if they are alone in the world, not worthy of forgiveness. But there is hope and love. It is explored and revealed beautifully in this book.
There were times my heart ached while reading this story but mostly I was kept smiling as I was swept along on this delightful journey of discovery and surrender!
Special thanks to Cathy Hickling at Whitaker House Publishers for sending me a review copy. I was not required to write a positive review just my honest opinion, which I have done.
I enjoy Author Laura V. Hilton’s style of writing. Her Amish novels have endearing characters and her story-lines tackle some interesting topics. In Surrendered Love, Hiram “Troy” Troyer was raised Amish but before he joined the church he experienced a tragedy. He ran from all he knew and became a police officer in the Englisch world. Janna Kauffman, the Bishop’s daughter, had a childhood crush on Hiram Troyer. When she meets him again in the produce department, those feelings from long ago resurface. However, there is a problem, he hasn’t joined the church. Will Troy confront his demons so he can return home? Will Janna leave her cherished life to be with the man she loves? God will direct their steps if they can learn to forgive and trust. This is Book Two in The Amish of Webster County but they are all stand-alone. Get to know Author Laura V. Hilton with this series, you will not be disappointed.
SURRENDERED LOVE by Laura V. Hilton is the second book in the Amish Of Webster County series. It’s the story of Janna Kaurfman and Hiram “Troy” Troyer.
Janna Kaurrman is the daughter of the Bishop. She’s only had one true love, a boy from her youth, and has never been sought out by anyone for buggy rides or courting. She started her own personal shopper business for those that either can’t do their own shopping or those too busy to do it. About the time she has it up and running smoothly, she becomes shared guardian with her parents for her niece, Meghan, when her shunned mother sent her to the Amish community due to her unruliness. It’s through one of Meghan’s rebellions acts that Janna reunited with Police Officer Troyer - who eventually learns why Meghan has been acting out.
Hiram “Troy” Troyer is a young former Amish man carrying around a lot of guilt that lead him away from the Amish community after he felt unworthy. Since he hadn’t joined the church, he hasn’t been shunned for jumping the fence to live as an Englischer and becoming a police officer. He finds his roommate with questionable scruples and his job that has become less than fulfilling to be less than ideal but has no idea what to do. He feels that because of what he did that he can’t go home. They might say they forgive, because it is their way, but he think they could never forget or forgive from their heart.
From their first encounter in the grocery story, sparks flew for both Janna and Troy. Their growing intense attraction has them reaching out to each other with verboden passion. Janna wonders if she dares to dream and wonders if Troy will come back the church. She knows right off that Troy is the man she wants to marry. Troy thinks he can keep it light and playful walking away before things get serious, but soon learns he’s head over hills in love with Janna. Bishop Dave has good feelings about a union between Troy and his daughter and begins to talk to Troy about facing the past to make a path for the future leading him back to his faith. Janna and Troy end up eloping and then realize there are consequences for our actions. Will their love endure and show them the way?
Can Janna be happy if she jumps the fence to be with Troy knowing that as a member of the church it would mean being shunned from the church, her family and friends? Can Troy find a way to forgive himself, accept that God loves him faults and all and that others can forgive him? Can his love of God and Janna bring him back to the church? Will Bishop Dave, after losing one child to death and one by being shunned, lose his last remaining child to the English world too and possibly lose his position in the church as well? Can they all help Meghan to see her worth and know that things that adults did to her in the past don’t define her? Will Troy become a mentor to others by sharing his experiences?
THE SURRENDERED LOVE is an exceptionally great book that I highly recommend to anyone that loves the Amish genre, a wonderfully touching romance and just a wonderful book all round. Love the way the author touches on so many situations with a Christian pen. In this story one reads about honesty, accountability, the harm of hidden secrets, forgiveness, child abuse, compassion, faith, unconditional love, and the belief of God’s plan which may not be apparent to us but is always for his good. Enjoyed the way the author used scripture within the storyline where it flowed seamlessly as part of the story. THE SURRENDERED LOVE can definitely be read as a standalone, but I’m sure you will love this author’s books and want to read them all.
Surrendered Love with Janna Kauffman and Hiram (Troy) Troyer was enthralling and kept me turning the page until I was finished, which ended up being in the early morning hours.
Janna, the bishop’s daughter, and Hiram had a past history of puppy love or teenage crush on one another. Hiram left the Amish community after a couple of his friends had been killed in a tragic buggy/automobile accident. Hiram, known as Troy currently, went into law enforcement. He accidently met Janna in the produce aisle of the store and was surprised she was shopping for his family and others in the Amish community. Troy needed to speak to Janna or her father regarding her niece, Meghan. Janna’s sister, Sharon who had left the Amish community, had left Meghan with Janna and her family due to her negative behaviors. Meghan continued down the wrong pathway in her new school as it seemed she was drawn to the wrong crowd. How many times was Janna or Bishop Dave going to be contacted by the police with continued inappropriate behaviors that went against the law?
Janna and Troy felt the fireworks between one another when they meet after the years of separation. They knew their lives were not looking in the same direction but Troy could not stay away from seeing Jenna. Jenna was determined to remain true to the Ordnung, after her sister had joined the English world. Bishop Dave encouraged Janna to stay in contact with Troy, even inviting him to stay for dinner when he was at their home. Bishop Dave believed Janna would influence Troy to return and seek forgiveness from the community. I was cheering for Jenna to win Troy back into the community, along with Troy influencing Meghan to accept responsibility for her action.
There are suspenseful times with issues that surprised me. Laura Hilton knows how to create characters that cause you to be blown away with the trauma happening around them. Why would Meghan share an untruth with Troy about Jenna and her grandpa, when she was causing heartache for them? Was she that self-centered it didn’t matter who she hurt?
Surrendered Love is filled with in depth compassion, action, faith, restoration, mercy and forgiveness. The hero and heroine will charm and disappoint readers at times, but God’s ways are not our ways in how He works in lives who seeks Him. I appreciate Laura’s showing God’s mercy and salvation in her books. I am thankful I do not have to wait for a few months to read book three, Awaken Love, since this series was published a few years ago. The Amish of Webster County series is sensational and over the top.
I am more and more thrilled with each book… and each series… written by Laura V. Hilton! She’s an absolutely amazing writer!
The first book in the series caught me off guard with a bit of a different story line than usual… when I began reading this book, I was tickled pink to find the same sort of story line – it’s fun, unique, and exciting, to boot.
When this story begins, Janna is shopping and runs into Hiram Troyer, the boy she always hoped would want to court her… we first heard of Janna and Hiram in Healing Love, but Hiram had already jumped the fence (left their Amish community)…
In this amazing story, Janna and Hiram, who goes by Troy now that he’s living as an Englischer, are brought together again and again when her niece Meghan keeps getting into trouble.
Janna and Troy have a past — but it’s difficult to guess whether they’ll have a future or not, since Troy is sure that even if he wants to join the church, he won’t be allowed to, because of something that he did just before he took off and left the community.
Although Janna is determined to stay in the church, the fact that her dat is the bishop is another factor to consider — but if Troy won’t come back, what will she do?
The solution in this novel is as interesting as all the stories in Laura’s books. She has such a talent for creating awesome characters. If I go to Seymour, I would not be surprised to find Janna and Troy… and their families — they’re that real to the readers.
I want to include my thanks to my daughter for contacting Ms. Hilton to request that she be my featured guest author on my book blog for November – thanks, Rachel!
Surrendered Love is every bit as wonderful as the first book in the series, Healing Love… and I can’t wait to read the third book in the series, Awakened Love… I can begin on it tonight.
If you enjoy reading Amish novels, read Surrendered Love… and if you enjoy reading good Christian romance novels, you’ll really love the entire series!
Disclosure of Material Connection: The opinions I express are my own, but I received this book free from the author in appreciation for featuring her this month on my blog.
This story has a bishops daughter Janna who is past the time most young people marry, she works in her community by shopping for folks that need the help and some that just need a break. She enjoys doing this for folks and gives her life meaning until the day she spies a familiar face in the store...He is a policeman with a past of living amish who left long ago never letting anyone know his secret.... Hiram (Troy) Troyer has much guilt from the past but he still remembers the pretty face of Janna and he pursues her when he knows he has no right to. The bishop sees a future for this young man back in the amish community and he lets his daughter know that she should see him, he feels the feelings between them will bring him back, letting him forgive himself, letting others forgive him and begin to live again instead of hiding behind "being a policeman". one sister of Janna's left the community long ago and she has brought her daughter there hoping her parents can help the troubled young woman, Meghan test every boundry and is not happy living amish though she loves her grandparents. It is soon seen that she is in trouble with the law after shoplifting, When Troy an english type comes around to see Janna this confuses her even more. Troy the policeman wants to work with the Bishop and Janna who are joint gaurdians of the young girl, this will let him see more of Janna and also help a little... I was totally surprised by the ending and how this couple was able to come to grips with all the worldly things around. It made me think of the good and bad influences in our lives and of our choices we make that balance things. you will enjoy this unusual amish story by Laura.
While Jenna Kauffman is doing the personal shopping for the homebound in her Amish community she thinks she recognizes the policeman as the boy she'd always hoped to marry and drops oranges all over the floor. Troy Troyer, better known to the Amish as Hiram Troyer, ran away as a teenager and knows he'll never return to the Amish, he would never be accepted back even if he tried to.
Jenna is co-guardian, along with her parents, to her niece Meghan. Jenna's sister left the Amish also and now she can't handle Meghan so she sent her to live with Jenna and her parents. Well as Jenna leaves the store she's confronted by two police officers, one of which is 'Troy' Troyer. It seems Meghan hasn't even been in town two weeks and is already getting in trouble, as she continues with her shenanigans, Jenna and Troy seem to be thrown together a lot.
Jenna discovers she is still interested in Troy and Troy seems to reciprocate those feelings. Things can't go any further though because he has a secret and can't bring himself to tell anyone, that's the end of it. As if his emotions aren't tearing him up enough he accidentally shoots Jenna's daed.
What a great book! I hated to put this one down. How many times do we, as humans, do things and then regret them later and can't forgive ourselves? If we can't forgive ourselves how will anyone else forgive us, even if they are family or someone we love? We have to remember that all we have to do is ask God for forgiveness and then we need to forgive ourselves, we can do this with God's help if we just ask him.
Needless to say, I'm starting the next book, "Awakened Love", as soon as I'm done writing this review. I would encourage you to get your hands on this series, you will really enjoy it.
This is a love affair. Yes, we do have an occasional trist at Killer Nashville. In fact, several couples and one marriage have been the result of meetings that have taken place at Killer Nashville so, even though the murderous spirit prevails, there is a softer side to most of our attendees. And some of you enjoy reading about love.
I’ve always had an interest in the Amish since many years ago seeing the movie “Witness” starring Harrison Ford. “Surrendered Love” by Laura V. Hilton does not have the bathroom murder, but it does have mystery and the outside cop (though he originally came from Amish Land), the wayward child, and the reluctant, developing relationship between the two main characters. I find this to be more than a love story, though. Hilton has great characterizations and character arcs going for her and she’s obviously done her research. It’s an examination of the old and the new, of stagnancy and growth. There is also that undercurrent theme of “forgiveness,” which always gets me right in the gut.
I enjoyed Surrendered Love by Laura V. Hilton. In this work, she has many interesting and likable characters, however, some of the events in this story seemed implausible to me which I found distracting. I felt the strongest scenes involved a teen-aged character named Meghan. Mrs. Hilton has portrayed Meghan's sassy personality very well with all of her shenanigans, attitude and dialog. All the details introduced throughout the book were wrapped up leaving a satisfying ending. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I love parts of it and other parts I just shake my head. Have a hard time believing it would happen that way.
Troy and Janna are the main characters of this book. Troy left the Amish and is now back. Janna's father, the bishop pushes them together. We also have the English niece, and I am still trying to figure her out. Guess I never will now that the book is ver.
So much of this book goes against everything I have read about the Amish in the past. The more I think of it the more unhappy I am with this book and that makes me sad.
Sorry Laura v. Hilton, a huge fan but this one didn't do it for me.
