Dive into a steamy romantic fantasy adventure that sweeps you into an enchanting world of vast fjords, wild forests, elemental powers, and one woman searching for her destiny. With a stunning love story that spans multiple realms, A Moonrise in the Fire is Book One in An Element of Fire series, but can be read as a standalone. A gripping read perfect for fans of Holly Black, Stephanie Garber, Rebecca Yarros, and Carissa Broadbent.
On Saturdays, Tessia is often found daydreaming about the plot of her next book, eating mint malt balls, riding horses, and wishing she had a pet owl. She’s less whimsical the rest of the week, when she is hard at work writing burn-the-world-down romance and adventure in fantastical settings—the kinds of stories she would want to read, and hopes you will too!
Tessia lives in California with her husband and various furred and feathered beasts. She holds two degrees from Stanford University.
A Moonrise in the Fire is a spellbinding start to the An Element of Fire series, seamlessly blending romance, fantasy, and mystery. Talvi, born without magic, takes center stage as the keeper of Starstone Temple, but her world transforms when the mysterious Caelan enters. The chemistry between them sparks a dangerous fire, unveiling a perilous quest that transcends realms.
The author's vivid descriptions (I want to go through a shadow door!) transport readers to enchanting landscapes, from vivid temples to wild forests, creating a captivating backdrop for this gripping tale. Talvi's internal struggle and the unfolding secrets of Starstone keep you eagerly turning pages. The dynamic trio of Talvi and her best friends adds depth to the narrative, enhancing the overall camaraderie.
The steamy romance between Talvi and the enigmatic fire elemental, Caelan, is woven seamlessly into the fabric of the story, evoking emotions that resonate long after the last page (especially where the added trouble of Rian is concerned). The author's writing style is both immersive and eloquent, reminiscent of beloved fantasy authors.
A Moonrise in the Fire is not just a love story; it's an epic adventure that explores destiny, loyalty, and the sacrifices one must make. While it's the first in the series, it stands strong as a standalone novel. Fans of Sarah J. Maas and Holly Black will find themselves irresistibly drawn into this mesmerizing world of elemental powers and impossible choices. Highly recommended for those seeking a thrilling escape into realms where love and destiny collide. Some quotes I loved: ‘An owl hoots four times from atop a pointy evergreen. I gulp a ragged inhale and shiver in the cold, nebulous night.’ ‘The clock downstairs strikes ten times, and the girl waves at us on the tenth chime as we disappear.’ ‘I breathe in his smoky midnight scent and fall deep asleep on his bare, scarred chest.’
“A Moonrise in the Fire: A New Adult Romantasy (An Element of Fire)” by Tessia Ives is an absolute page-turner! From the moment I started reading, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. The writing is incredibly well-done, drawing me into the world of hot fantasy romance, which happens to be my favorite genre after historical romance.
I devoured this novel in a single day, completely captivated by the story and the characters. If I could, I’d give it 10 stars without hesitation. The blend of romance, fantasy, and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat.
Now that I’ve finished it, I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. Tessia Ives has created a world that I can’t wait to dive back into. If you’re a fan of romance with a touch of magic and adventure, this book is an absolute must-read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a good vibe. I thought it ended well, in a way it could be a standalone however, I am looking forward to the second book. It did setup for what is to come with the main characters journey. I haven't read a book where there's elements such as this and the way they are used. It was really nice as I'm an avatar fan!
4.5 stars “Four elements. Three realms. Two lovers. And one impossible choice.” A Moonrise in the Fire is NA tale and a spellbinding start to the romantasy series An Element of Fire. Tessia’s unique and magical world is full of wonderful characters and magical creatures. This is an immersive action-packed epic adventure and compelling tale where you navigate many realms, magic, elementals, long-lost secrets, deadly enemies, ancient secrets, and dangerous quests. This gripping tale sees our heroine Talvi a simple human with no elemental powers on a mission to save worlds. She is vulnerable, full of flaws and a simple girl, it was nice to watch her grow into herself. Tessia’s narrative creates a captivating backdrop with vivid descriptions that transports and connects readers to enchanting worlds and varying landscapes, from temples to the beautiful and mysterious forests. The humour, wit, and banter help bring this beautifully crafted steamy romantasy to life. I can’t wait for more books because there is so much to be explored with these different realms.
This is a truly phenomenal read. An astonishingly good debut from Tessia Ives, this book tells the story of Talvi - a girl who is missing her elemental ability in a world where everyone has one. She goes on a journey for someone she loves, and discovers a lot about herself and a lot about the realms on the way.
The writing was excellent and brilliantly clear - the fantastical aspects of the story didn’t get lost and twisted, everything was clearly explained along the way. A whirlwind from start to finish, I truly didn’t know what the ending was going to be. Tessia Ives delivered, and I can’t wait for the rest of the books in this series and any others she may write.
Woah, I loved this book so much, such a page-turner! The way the author writes truly immerses you into the story. The way she describes everything is so great! The spice in this book is quite nice, like the smoke thing he was doing to her was 🥵🔥🔥🔥. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a Romace with some light spice!!

Another day and another “I finished this at 3 AM because I literally couldn’t put it down.” Not kidding. I tried. This was Once Upon a Broken Heart and Avatar the Last Airbender vibes. There were some moments (and I mean like the occasional sentence but not more than that) where I wasn’t as into the writing style, but my investment in the plot and the characters completely negated that. The story is amazing. I know the author put at the end of the book that this will be a series, and I am really torn on how I feel about that. Because I want to read more of these characters and this world, but also the ending was perfect.
An intriguing fantasy that pulled me in. I really enjoyed the concept with the various elementals, creatures, and of course most fascinating were the different worlds. There’s so much here that hasn’t been uncovered yet and I hope the author decides to explore more.
There’s a whole cast of various characters that each had their own unique personality. Talvi was the main character. She was relatable and full of flaws and struggles like the rest of us. Throughout the story she grows into herself and becomes more confident.
Some exciting tropes found here are:
- important quest - elemental magicks - new worlds - arrogant, protective, fire wielding MMC - relatable FMC - fish out of water - hidden identities - love triangle - forced proximity - one bed - Smokey like shadows… kind of like a shadow daddy - fun banter - steamy scenes - interesting side characters
Talvi is the keeper of Starston Temple, she wields no magic and is going to be left behind when Rian leaves. Rian is her first boyfriend and holds a place in her heart but she knows she is going to begin a new chapter in her life she will adapt too. When a new tenant arrives to stay in the temple, Talvi finds her going head to head with Caelen whose bluntness with his opinion of her offers a distraction but Talvi finds herself immersed in a realms she never could imagine. Talvi and Caelen grow close but who will win Talvi's heart in the end?
This adventure had a little bit of everything in the story, from romance to fantasy. The love triangle had me torn because I liked both but Caelen definitely was a favorite for me. The story is crafted with a wonderful ability to describe each scene making it is easy to visualize. I will be checking out more from this author in the future.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story is about Talvi, a young woman burdened by the weight of responsibility and the longing for adventure beyond the confines of her monastery home. Despite being born without Elemental powers in a world where they are commonplace, Talvi's resilience and determination shine through as she manages the complexities of her relationships and discovers hidden truths about herself.
The characters in are richly drawn and multifaceted, each carrying their own burdens and secrets. From Talvi's steadfast devotion to her grandmother Grams, to the enigmatic allure of Caelan, the Fire Elemental prince who sweeps into her life like a tempest, every interaction crackles with tension and depth.
The world-building is truly immersive, painting a vivid image of the landscapes and cultures. From the ancient monastery of Starstone Temple to the bustling metropolis of the City of Moons, each setting feels alive with its own history and magic.
As the book goes on and Talvi's journey unfolds, so too does the mystery surrounding her past and the true nature of her abilities. With each revelation and twist of fate, I was on the dge of my seat. Overall, this is a spellbinding story. Highly Recommend!
This book is the perfect blend of everything a romantasy fan loves! The magical elements and interesting realms, dangerous journey, complex characters, and steamy romance drew me in. The chemistry between Talvi and Caelan was immediately ignited, and the scene in Caelan’s apartment was everything 🥵
I appreciated the realistic portrayal of Talvi’s struggle to choose between two loves, and the depth to both Caelan and Rian that made it hard to decide who to love and who to hate. Saphira and Julius were great side characters and enhanced the plot. Also, talking magical dragon statues with sass? Sold. The epilogue and preview of book two have me begging for the story to continue!
First off, look at this cover 😍 But oh my goodness, I just finished this book & let me tell you I am so glad I read it! This story, Talvi & Caelan have such a chokehold on me, I need more of them! And my gods he's 🥵(new book bf) It's full of funny, witty banter, relatable characters, the 🌶 is amazing, the elemental magic & the different realms is so neat! It has suspenseful secrets & twists. Definitely one of my top faves! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved it from start to finish, it was really a refreshing read & I recommend it 1000x it definitely pulled on my heart strings(in a good way) I can not wait for book 2 & more of Tessia's writings 🙌
In A Moonrise in the Fire, Tessia Ives introduces readers to a lush, elemental world where magic governs power—and where love can burn just as fiercely. Talvi, a temple keeper born without magic, finds herself drawn to the fire-wielding and mysterious Caelan. When she sets out to rescue her childhood love from a dying realm, Talvi is forced to choose between her past and a fiery new destiny. With steamy romance, rich worldbuilding, and high-stakes emotion, this is a spellbinding start to the Element of Fire series. Perfect for fans of slow-burn fantasy with a scorching edge.
A fantastic new author. I waiting for the next book with my fingers crossed. A great story about love, loss and growth. Twists and turns that keep you guessing. Great story with true love winning in the end.
What a trip! The first few chapters felt like they belonged in another book, setting my expectations to zero. Imagine my surprise when everything suddenly turned around. I cannot believe how good this book was. It's criminal how few reviews it has.
Rating: 4.5/5 Penguins (rounded down) Quick Reasons: the love triangle in this had me CONCERNED; so many emotional hurricane moments; delicious purple prose; steamy steamy steamy; unique, enthralling, un-put-downable read
HUGE thanks to Tessia Ives, Silver Raven Press, and R&R Book Tours for the title! My review is voluntarily written and in no way altered or impacted by this gesture.
To him, I’m sweet, girly Talvi who loves to prance around in dresses when the weather permits—and that’s who he loves.
Lately, I’ve been fighting hard for the prancing, sweet version to win.
First and foremost-- the prose in this read is deliciously purple, lyrical, and enthralling. From page 1, I was sucked into the story, transported to another world entirely. And what a world this is! I was blown away by the amount of world building that happened in this read. As a reader, I felt as if Tessia Ives was handing me the keys to the universe.... and then setting me loose to wreak whatever havoc I felt like.
The characters and their motivations were believable, though in some instances concerning and downright infuriating. Multiple times, I felt like this book was taunting me, just begging to be thrown in frustration as the characters did CHARACTER things like make bad decisions and choose the absolute wrong love interest. Because yes, warning.... there is a love triangle, and there is only ONE correct answer. I will fling tuna at you if you fight me on this.
I tilt to him, instinctively searching his eyes for lies in case his pretty words are only a line he uses in the bedroom.
Instead, in those irises I see the moonrise in the fire, the night in the sun. All the while disastrously aware his hand still burns on top of mine.
I had a ton of fun discovering this world, these characters, and the deepest secrets of their hearts. I definitely recommend this to lovers of alternate universe doorway lanterns, infuriating love triangles, and worlds you will long to dive into. Third Moon is rising, Penguins.... will YOU catch aflame?
I almost stopped reading near the start, as the age of the fmc (19) and the school setting put me off, as did the fact there was clearly a love triangle - usually a hard no from me. There was an irritating sort of patheticness about her I didn't connect with.
However, I stuck at it and I'm glad I did. When Caelan gets involved and the whimsical fantasy plot kicks in, it did hold my interest.
Caelan is a great character. I think he's loosely based on Howl from Howl's Moving Castle, and I'm a sucker for that movie, so I loved him. His relationship with Talvi is the best bit of this book. I am also a sucker for longing, and I loved the longing in the first half of the book. The bits where the two of them are together, exploring different realms, was my favourite. Halfway through I feel like their relationship suddenly leapt forward, which was a bit surprising, as I was getting great slown-burn vibes, another thing I love.
I did find the world building a little vague. I loved the whimsical natire if the fantasy setting, but I did all feel a bit random. Although this was a small niggle.
I absolutely hated the love triangle, but then in unequivocally despise them without exception. As is often the case, it was pretty obvious where it was all heading, but even having the wade through the contrived aspect of it annoyed me, and I mostly skimmed those parts. It wasn't that big of a focus, and only really the last third, or I would have read it.
4.5⭐️ This is the first book I've read by Tessia Ives and I LOVED IT! Talvi's loyalty, and selflessness really resonated with me. Caelan- the hopeless romantic and all encompassing character. I loved all of the characters in the book. The use of elemental magic was so different than in other books I've read before. If you love Romantasy I highly suggest you pick this one up!
I loved this story! It’s a fantastic medium spicy NA book that blends fantasy, romance, elemental magic, portal travel, magic creatures, adventurous quests and hidden powers. I was pulled right in and finished this book in a day.
Talvi is our FMC, and she lives with her adoptive guardian, Gran. In this urban fantasy setting, she’s the only person anybody knows without magic. She’s immediately relatable in that she’s different from everyone around her and feels less than as a result. She’s the keeper of the temple and she never expects to be a part of anything special. Her heroes journey is an absolute delight to behold. She endures so much, with enviable courage, and perseveres, and finds her true calling.
Her cinnamon roll boyfriend, Rian, loves her for who she is and has known her all her life. She would do anything for him, even though she feels like she’s holding him back because of her lack of magic.
Caelan comes onto the scene in a skulky and suspicious manner, but Talvi feels drawn to him, and when Rian is kidnapped and Caelan begs her to follow him so they can save Rian, the story really begins. Mixed feelings, portals, riddles, and a small group of his and hers closest allies form a found family bond and unite as they traverse the dimensions chasing down Rian and revealing new and deeper parts of themselves to each other. There are dark secrets, some real PTSD, some beautiful emotional intimacy, and really imaginative world building that just unfolds and immerses the reader. Literally so much adventure, any more and I’ll spoil things, but trust me, you gotta read this for yourself!
I can’t wait for book 2. I’m so excited to see what comes next!
A Moonrise in the Fire is the first book in a new series by Tessia Ives. This was a very enjoyable read. It was very descriptive and well written, it had some spice, and lots of adventure. This was a romantasy type read and had those fantastical elements along with such vivid descriptions. I loved all of the characters and the camaraderie between them. It was a wonderful page turner.
Amazing! I read her other book, Artemysia, and needed to read this one, too. The characters are loveable, especially Talvi and her best friend! The elemental magic is phenomenal, the realms are amazing, and Caelan 🔥 In the beginning, I thought Rian was such an awesome person, but when he was promised power and status, he was such a disappointment. I hoped he would be better for the love of his life. In the end, he did but things could have been different if he learned sooner. Such an emotional Rollercoaster that ending was 😭
I was provided an ARC of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A Moonrise in the Fire is Book One in the An Element of Fire series by Tessia Ives.
Talvi & self discovery/ self realization arc >>>>
An epic quest, elemental magic and, of course, romance combine to create a journey through a vivid realm full of secrets, mystery and adventure for Talvi & friends in Ives’ A Moonrise in The Fire. This page turner’s got a little bit of something for everyone, introducing an immersive world that’s all too easy to lose yourself in.
Thank you to the author and R&R Book Tours for my gifted copy!
I fell in love with this cover, and was very excited to read this book. But, all it did was get me confused and disappointed.
The book started out strong with the premise and multiple worlds! The FMC was a bit odd with the way she acted with Rian and her friends. Her collecting skeletal remains of small animals was a point, for some reason…
I have never been a fan of love triangles and this book made my dislike for it concrete. From the beginning, it was clear who the choice should be - with the way they treated her and the way she was with them. It was so clear who liked her for who she was and not as someone she has to pretend to be. But, obviously, she kept fluctuating between them choosing one and then the other. It was irritating at best.
The author could have spent more time on world building since everything felt disjointed at times… we will see characters appearing at places suddenly with no reason and disappearing easily.
Thank you to the author and RR Book Tours for sending me a copy to review.
Wow, y’all. Buckle up tight. Cause this ride was wild! I have all the feelings. Tessia did such an amazing job moving through myriads of emotions, traumas, and realms in this new adult elemental magic meets A Wrinkle in Time vibes Romantasy.
In AMITF, we follow Talvie, an almost 20 year old who seems to be the only mortal with no elemental power and is struggling to scrape through college and take care of her sick gran. She feels unseen, alone, and unheard even with her childhood best friend and love of her life, Rian.
In a whirlwind of events, Talvie finds herself suddenly uncovering the mysteries of her gran’s temple with a fiery newcomer who gives me Malfoy vibes, Caelan. She and him must now hop through realms and times to save Rian, who has been kidnapped by another elemental realm. The world building is AMAZING. Each realm so neat. I’m excited to learn more about the magic system as we go!
Tessia did such an amazing job with the emotions in this story. I hurt. I yearned. I hollered. I teared up. I celebrated. The circular way she made everyone’s emotions fit into a wild wheel of feelings from their poor coping mechanisms to their positive ones and how they each affected each other was so creative. It was like push and pull, cause and effect, how one character could feel sad and the other would attribute it to their trauma round and round that vicious cycle goes. It was so realistic and reminded me how important communication, safe spaces, vulnerability, transparency, acceptance, and healing are. This whole book is a tribute to: love is a choice, self-acceptance, and empowerment.
Tropes you made find in AMITF are lots of banter, found family, spiceee that is so good 3/5, love triangle, friends to lovers, elemental magic, “can I hold you?”, soulmates, star crossed lovers, forced proximity, “good girl”, hidden identities, and high stakes ending.
I am SO PUMPED to read book two. I need to know how these characters continue to evolve. Thank you for reaching out to me, Tessia. I’m so glad I read your book.
One of my favorite fantasy romance novels in a long time! The enchanting world created in this story has captivated me, and I find myself eagerly anticipating the further development of the characters in the next book. I feel torn between wanting to savor every moment in this magical world and the urge to uncover what unfolds next. I am certain that I will revisit this novel in the near future, eager to immerse myself once again in its captivating story and richly drawn characters.
A Moonrise On The Fire is book 1 of "An Element Of Fire" series by the talented Tessia Ives. I've been absolutely dying to read more from Tessia since I devoured Artemysia, and as I expected, I was blown away. I cannot express how much I love Tessia, and this is only the second book I've ever gotten the absolute pleasure of reading! It doesn't matter what your preferred genre is, give this author a chance, I highly doubt she'll let you down! I need this next book yesterday!
I finished this book in two days. I just got this book from a girl that thought I would love it from a FB Group I run. I dove right in and couldn’t put it down. The spice was top notch. I love reading debut novel as the ones I’ve read have been amazing. The world was beautiful and easy to follow. I’m excited to read more by this author.
───── • ♡︎🔥🌗🔥♡ • ───── ✨✨𝘔𝘺 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴✨✨ Thank you so much to Tessia Ives and R&R Book Tours for my Review Copy of A Moonrise in the Fire! This review is comprised entirely of my own thoughts & opinions, & is based on the copy I received.
This book was AMAZING! I am in shock that this was Tessia’s debut novel because it was so exquisitely written. Everything was so easy to follow, which can be tough with fantasy books! The characters were amazing and so easy to connect with. I thought the world building was really excellent and I always love a magic system that uses elemental magic! And I loved the use of portal magic, too!
I loved Talvi as a FMC! She’s super brave and loyal, and I loved her journey in this book. She starts off very insecure in herself and feels shame because she is the only person who has been born and isn’t able to wield any of the elements. Her boyfriend, Rian, is kidnapped, and she teams up with our morally grey fire wielder Caelen to help get him back. Together, they embark on a journey full of magic, traveling to different realms, angst, spice, and tension! I’m not usually a fan of love triangles, but I think Tessia did an amazing job of weaving the intricacies of the relationship dynamics between everyone. *cough cough* Team Caelen all the way!! *cough cough* I think what I enjoyed most was Talvi’s character growth. I LOVED watching her learn to embrace herself and she was so inspiring!
Overall, I definitely enjoyed this one! I’m so excited for the next book in the series and I definitely recommend for all Romantasy lovers!
