How and where to begin?
Bought this book a week ago, mostly because of the author - Inawza Yusof. Her first book was one of the best book I've read in 2013 and she has been on my must-read list ever since.
To be frank, I have quite a high expectation for Suspek the moment I saw the cover and read the synopsis.
What is Suspek all about? Just another typical 'serial killer on the loose with some big, handsome cop chasing after the nut job' story?
: Yes and no. Yes, it involves a psycho-killer. And no, it's not your typical psychological thriller with handsome cop and an insanely gorgeous witness.
Suspek delved into a more darker path, it is more than just 'stupid killing frenzy' by some lunatic. There's this Ramsen guy, the dark society that goes by the name The Alchemists (which reminded me of Paulo Coelho hehe), and a sick, sick game they played. It's a dog eat dog world and the game is very intriguing actually, wish the author could emphasis more on this. With a mind boggling twist that kept me guessing and guessing, Suspek truly lived up to its name.
What about the author's writing style? Is she any good?
:Really? Here assuming you never read her first book. She can write and that's a fact. Suspek is written in 3rd POV though I seems to recall the author mentioned somewhere in her blog about being 'kekok' using the POV. The flow, the suspense and every other elements are in the right place. Smooth reading and very torturing since I had to refrain myself from flipping to the back page, the suspense is killing me.
What to expect from Suspek?
: Heart-thumping suspense, missing body parts (yes, yes, yes. tongue, fingers, hand and eyes... liver?), murder and blood, crispy and deliciously fresh sarcastic dialogues with a humor of its own, a mind reader witness, a tinge of romance, and... a cliffhanger.
Last words?
: Good book, worth reading. There are some parts which are left with no certain answer, hanging with no clear closure; like Ghaz's ability, Bernard's secret, Malik's revenge plan and call me psychic but I have a strong feeling that Anna is not dead. Lagi pun, an author with this complicated and twisted thinking wouldn't makes everything easy. Pretty sure there are more tricks up her sleeve.
Anyway, Fixi please tell her to come up with a sequel pronto or I'm gonna kill somebody ( in my sleep).
