“When hope is busy dying, you should run and you should hide. But whatever you do, don’t pray for hope.”– Season 1 of Dying Hope, Zombie ApocalypseKindle book Brody had always wanted to live like the rich kids did, with their hot meals and shiny cell phones. Unfortunately, life had other plans for him and his sister Pippa. Struggling to pick up the pieces after their father’s mysterious death and coping with their mother’s drug use and her abominable new boyfriend, the children felt even more removed from hope. In this thrilling debut novella, Brody and Pippa are about to learn to rely on a completely different set of survival mechanisms — a set that would keep them alive while horror, a virus that slowly poisons the human brain, tears apart their small town. Amid the outbreak, tales of fright breed and people begin using the word zombie — something Brody, even though young, thinks is foolish. The horror and fun begins here, Episode 1

Not a normal zombie thriller!

I chose 5 stars due to writing style. very easy to consume. Will I read the rest of the series? likely not. the visual abuse of drugs , children and authority made it hard for me. I work and fight in a world simular to this(outbreak). and still find it disturbing. I find this writer is excellent in his field of writing. I just don't like to be reminded of the real human element that this is set . personally I would have killed everyone just for the kids. hope this helps great author.

I can sum up the plot in one paragraph. Brody is annoyed with sister Pippa for running off while playing hide and seek. Their mother is a spiteful drug addicted bitch. Life is crap. Brody hears an injured fly talk to him. Uh huh...

Boring, weird and nothing of interest. There was no virus, no zombies and no sign of any turning up anytime soon. In a 72 page book I expect it to start with a bang to get my interest not have talking flies and dreadful characters living out a dull and grim life, with a plot so slow it was moving backwards.

This thing was sick and not in the good way, we don't know anything about the kids other than being weird abused and sticking together, if you ask me the zombies were the least creepy creatures in this story, I was disgusted by the ones whom called themselves humans, way before the zombies showed up, and were they even zombies?

The author plays on the fact that the readers are aware that this is a zombie book. On many occasions he builds the scene for us to believe that the zombie virus will present itself to the kids, but no. In fact, we don't know hear much about any infection until much later in the book. The main chunk of story is backstory. Brody and Pippa's sibling relationship is the driving force.
The narrative doesn't hold back in brutality and abuse, and it's shown to us through the eyes of a child and his sister which makes it that much more awful to witness.
I'm not a fan of free books that leave you on a massive cliffhanger to encourage you to then buy the 2nd. This book did just that. At least conclude the narrative to an extent, and trust that your writing ability will spur me on to book 2, not a lack of conclusion.

Let’s start here all the ppl complaining about the gore or the extent of detail need to find a new line of books to read. This book definitely goes the distance with details which was great in my opinion. I ready consistently every day it’s very hard to keep my attention if there is not enough details but the book went the extra mile with this. I’m not easily grossed out either and there were a few parts that made me grossed out, not a bad thing if you enjoy details in story. Not many people can truly write in this style and make it work but the author did just that. Again if I am not roped into a story with in the few pages I’m over it and this book swepted me in and I finished this book in one sitting 😬😅. Truly the complaints your seeing are just people not made for this type of writing or details !

Bad

I do not like books that have violence against children in them. Hearing how these kids were treated and their abysmal living conditions was just appalling to me.

Also the author needs to learn the difference between “Hungry” and “Hungary.”

As far as the story goes, I’m not even really sure what happened, something about a virus, some birds faint out of trees, eventually zombies showed up. I don’t know, after like 4 chapters I just skimmed through it.

Give this one a pass.

Very interesting style of writing

The story was good and the characters were interesting, and the writing style was different.... but in a good way. I already purchased the second one to see what happens next.

Good read

It was good story. I felt bad for Brody and his sister. No reason for a parent to be that way. Makes me sick. Brody held it together almost with everything going on with nasty infection going around. Zombies completely different they can talk!!

The idea of this book is a good one. However, this book sorely lacks in grammar and editing. It's like a child wrote it with incomplete sentences and missing words and fragments.

This was a pretty interesting Zombie novella. I'm curious at a few things that took place but I'm sure these questions will be answered at some point in the future. I will say that the Zombies are creepy since it seems they've retained intelligience. I'm not sure how the characters will survive facing an adversary like that. Overall, I'd recommend picking this up and giving it a go. Can't wait to read more.

Zombies that can think for themselves, well this was definitely a different book! I liked the writing and the way the author was able to engage in the world he had built and keep you until the last page. With so many zombie books out there, it was refreshing to read something a little different and unique.

Pretty good, but....

I found this one to be a bit difficult to follow due to main characters manner of speaking. It is a scary story, one that scares you even before the zombies come.

Half a novella

This was a small chunk of a novella deliberately made to encourage the reader to then go pay full price for the next chunk of the novella, and i bet the same again after that one. No thanks! It wasn't that great that I'm going to pay several pounds for half a story!
