A hot-air balloon race! What could be more fun? Then again, we're talking about Wally McDoogle, the world-renowned "Human Catastrophe."
My Life as a Broken Bungee Cord keeps readers on the edge of their seats as one calamity builds upon another until, with his life on the line, Wally learns what it means to FULLY put his trust in God.
Bill Myers was born into a Christian home, and although as a child he became bored with Christianity, he decided at the University of Washington quote, to "make God my boss." Ironically, at the University his worst subject was writing. He claims to have prayed, and said that he would be able to do anything for God, except write. Even so, he has become a prominent Christian writer, and has a large amount of successful books and films to his credit.
The Good: This old-school adventure stands the test of time. Full of humor and action, and with a fabulous moral, this is a treat for young people, and the young at heart as well.
The Bad: Nothing, really.
Conclusion: Back in the day, this was sort of my introduction to Christian fiction. Though I remember enjoying this way back when, I can understand it better now...which meant I had even more fun with it!
Loved this book as a kid, but, as many books sadly do, this did not age well. The humor was forced, the plot had many holes and seemed to be purposefully convoluted to draw out the book time, the side-story was hopelessly cheesy, and as well-meaning as the God references were they seemed overdone in order to shove a message down the reader's throat. Too bad, I miss the days when I would cry laughing reading about Wally hanging from his ankle out of a hot-air balloon basket. (If you're a young reader, go crazy trying this one out! Maybe it'll have the same magic for you it did for me.)
My life as a broken bungee cord is a funny humour, made for teenagers or children, if you are looking for a long mature book this isnt really the book for you. This story is about a hot-air balloon race,it keepsreaders on the edge of their seat as one trouble build up after the other, Wally learns what it means to fully put his trust in GOD.
