Amazon Best Selling in "erotic horror" & "vampire suspense," Moonvine includes books 1-4 of the ongoing Gold Blood Prophesy Series by dark romance author K.J. Devoir.

Leena Sperling has fallen into darkness. Darkness has a name...
ZAND BYRON

He’s larger than life. He’s also a deeply dangerous, twisted soul, a textbook psychopath. But, somehow...She makes him

"You can run, Leena. But I will find you."

Leena: When I arrived to the City of Souls, the tiny cemetery town wrapping the Bay Area foothills where Moonvine Manor is located, I had no idea what to expect or how insane my life would become after moving into the former, Queen Anne, funeral home that belonged to my missing sister. I should have known that being greeted by a tombstone-shaped granite welcome sign was either a sick joke or a bad omen. But I could never have predicted that I would fall in love with the darkness.

Zand: I don’t want to ever stop making her cry. Her tears are full of human feelings, and I love the taste. She makes me feel, but part of me wants to end the human in her that brings out the human in me. In a heartbeat, I could make her nightmares infinitely darker. *This is a dark, gothic romance. I really wanted to like this book. 🥺

Vampires (and other creatures) ✔️
Mystery, and secrets ✔️
Anti-hero, grumpy, dark, vampire MMC ✔️
Curious FMC that gets herself in trouble ✔️
But in the end, it wasn't what I expected 😭

This read was all over the place. It had plot holes, too many points of view, overly amusing and cringe terminology used for some of the hot scenes. I was laughing so hard at a few of them. I added a few of these quotes at the end of the review!! 😅😅😳😂🫢

Also, most of the 🌶 scenes were short and choppy written. I would have preferred fewer scenes and better written.

I really, really tried to like the book since it gave me Underworld / The Originals vibes, but that was not enough.

The jumps between points of view were so annoying. It got me out of the story of a few times. In the last 30-40% of the book, new characters appeared out of nowhere.

I also observed a few inconsistencies. I'm sorry, but it should go through a new round of editing because there are a few confusing scenes, characters' names switched (multiple times, same characters!!), etc. (I'll give a single example: how could her sister write in her journal after she was kidnapped?? how is that possible?)

The MMC gave me the sensation that he was bipolar. A good portion of the book I just couldn't understand why he loves her. More chapters from his POV would have helped. And maybe fewer chapters with Rachel and Malek. Those were filler chapters in my eyes :).

Also, as a Romanian, I completely hated the Romanian references / scenes. There were so many clichés, like a vampire turning into a bat 😂. Only thing missing was garlic used as protection, hhhahaha.

I see others liked the book, so maybe it wasn't the book. Maybe it was me? *wink wink*

Some of those cringey 🔥 quotes 🫣🫣

"He sucks my nipples while forging inside me like an empire, and my mind goes mad with pleasure like I’ve never felt before."

-- forging like an empire, I'm sorry, but WHAT!??? LOL

"As the thrusting of his cock inside me slows, he resuscitates me with a kiss so full of tragic passion that it kills, finishing me off entirely. I am surely dead now."

-- I also needed resuscitation after laughing like an insane person!

"With that, I drive us both over the edge, my spasming erection releasing into her like a tidal wave at high tide, storming darkly inside her, my cock owning her treasure like a pirate."

-- ay, ay, captain! 😂😂😂

Thank you to booksirens and the publisher for sending this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Rating: 4.5

What a wild ride. I had no idea what to expect when reading this and that is my preferred way to read. Vampires, dark secrets, demons, spicy scenes… I loved every single piece except there is one part that I wish I had known about to better prepare. Spoiler alert: Leena has a miscarriage and it was very unexpected on my behalf. Otherwise the book was so great.

Favorite quote:

Depression is a funny thing. It’s like the ocean at low tide, waves slowly creeping up on you from behind, seeming relatively harmless at first. Just step forward, and you’ll be out of water. But then, before you know it, high tide hits, and the water rises faster as the waves crash harder. Suddenly, you lose your balance, sucked into an undertow, swept away.

I was curious about this book because a friend of mine really likes K.J Devoir and I have a few of her other books on my TBR list so having the opportunity to receive the ARC made me happy.

Dark romance, secrets and vampires? This is absolutely what I love and the writing immediately took me into the mysterious ambiance of this city and its secrets. Unfortunately, I'm only giving four stars because I felt like something is missing or it went too fast at times. This is obviously just a personal opinion, some people prefer when things move forward quickly but I might have liked it to take more time on Zand's side, I guess. I really appreciated this character, he is typically the kind of protagonist whose POVS I love to read (and some of his quotes are really... I don't have the words, I just loved them) but at the same time part of me thinks it was a little bit rushed between Leena and him. And the same goes for certain parts of the story.

Once again, it's a personal opinion and I still enjoyed to read that book, it's a great series for people into vampires novels, dark romance and a little touch of secrets and mystery.

I ate this book up.

Zand is a man shrouded in mysteries. His hot and cold behavior makes him the textbook definition of a narcissistic psychopath. There's a dark and addictive allure to his deadly nature. He's constantly battling indifferent and seemingly emotionless feelings that he associates with being inhuman. The small gleams of emotions or "warmth" that he does feel around Leena is constantly doused as a weakness. He's stuck between seeing her as lover or foe, convinced she's trying to ruin him. Its vitalizing watching his character development as he changes century old habits in the name of love.

Leena's character is drenched in stubbornness. Her psychology background is constantly put to the test as the majority of the novel she spends diagnosing the "unknown". Even when presented with concrete evidence, her vast knowledge of psychopathy steadies her in an unwavering denial. Its perhaps the most entertaining and unique part of this novel; reading her evaluations of the logical reasoning behind it all as she continues to encounter 'supernatural happenings'.

the spice level is mouthwatering 5/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

There are some dark themes that have you questioning some of the consent, so be aware of trigger warnings. There are no dull moments as readers venture into some borderline kinks.

I did have question about Zoe's character as she was the twin of the MMC. I don't understand why she wouldn't be seen as his equal and match in power if they are twins. throughout the story there were times when Zand seemed to be viewed as the only one of his status when he had a twin. this was odd and not really elaborated on.

my only grievance was the ending. literally the last chapter. it wasn't just rushed but it felt like the author gave up and didn't know what direction to end the story. It was disappointing to say the least. To have such an amazing story with so much substance to end so unfulfilling. I was left with so many questions.

I picked up this book with so much excitement. I love a good vampire romance, I eat that up. It also takes place locally for me and that was another factor that drew me to this book. It's gothic, spicy/smutty, dark, suspenseful, and very unique from other vampire stories I've read. And let me tell you, this book starts off with a bang. It had me hooked right away. The mystery, the creepiness of the mansion, town, and people. This honestly kind of gave me twilight vibes but like a twisted version where a Volturi falls for a human. UNIQUE. However, as I continued reading and as the story progressed, it started to get a bit chaotic and confusing. I felt like it was missing something. There was so much happening and so many characters I felt like the development fell a bit flat. I have so many unanswered questions and some parts felt so rushed. I just feel like this would have been so much better if it had been broken up into 2 or 3 books and there was more character development and background. I wanted to love this so much more than I did.
Overall, this book is super smutty and a great read if that's what you're looking for.

This book was def an interesting read, for a compilation of the first 4 books. This book has spice level 4 scenes, very descriptive and intense.

This book had great world building and vivid imagery of MoonVine. The house, the land & even the Templar land. There were parts that had me emotional and concerned. Talking to Leena & Kimmie through my kindle screen. I felt like I was sitting at the dinner table with them when they made such poor decisions..

Now, the ends of book two and three fell flat for me. The build up was there, but it felt rushed out of the ending. A lot could have been depicted in those scenes that could have easily made this a 5 start read.

Overall, it was a good read. A little lengthy, but not bad. Each book is on the shorter end. & there’s great sneak peeks at the end.

I volunteered to an ARC of this book through BookSirens

I previously read Gold Blood 1-3, but this included the final part in the series. This book centres around Leena, who inherits a house, and her search to figure out what happened to her sister, Rachel. Along the way, she realizes that vampires are not only real, but are in her bloodline, and that can cause some unexpected complications.

This book has just the right amount of spice mixed in with a fast-paced storyline that keeps you begging for more. I loved Rachel’s storyline in particular, and how independent, strong, and curious she is. I also liked the cunningly powerful role that Devika has throughout the novel. Leena and Zand’s chemistry is worth the read in itself (talk about passion). I especially enjoyed the artistic side of Zand and the mystery surrounding him. I really enjoy strong female leads, and this book has plenty, each with their own strengths. The diary and newspaper clippings were a unique touch that mixed it up a bit. And all of the elements of the coven I found intriguing. I do feel all problems are solved a little quickly, but was happy with the end result.

This truly is the perfect read if you enjoy all things vampire, action, mystery, and spice. You’ll absolutely love it if you enjoyed the Underworld movie series, as it has similar vibes.

Leena has inherited a manor house with its own morgue and funeral parlor from her half-sister Rachel, who is missing and presumed dead. As it’s close to her dream psychology internship, she packs up her mom and they move in. That’s when her nightmare begins as Moonvine’s secrets start to unravel, threatening to unravel her mind as well as she struggles to deal with an evil phantom in the house, an artist who paints dead women, vampires, an ancient species, spies, a coven and blood. So much blood.

This volume is composed of the 4 books making up the Gold Blood Prophesy series. I binge-read it, which could have colored my impressions. I may not have been bothered by certain things had I not flown through it. I felt the first book nicely set up the characters and built up the various mysteries: What happened to Rachel? What is inside the locked rooms Leena has no keys for? What are the noises coming from the basement?

The volume started strong but then grew progressively weaker. Even though the full e-book is less than 500 pages, there is a lot that could be cut out. And conversely, a lot that should be added, though I can’t give specifics without giving spoilers. By the end, I was reading solely to see what happened, not because I was enjoying it. The timeline irritated me the most because it makes no sense. It needs a serious edit, as do many parts of the books. There are misspelled and incorrect words (homophones like break and brake). Character names are incorrect (either the wrong name or the spelling changes), and some plot points seem to serve no purpose (the mafia guy from the car accident, the werewolf crown) or just are left hanging with no resolution (Ritter).

The push and pull between Leena and Zand was exhausting and confusing. Despite many chapters from Zand’s POV, I still can’t tell how he actually feels about Leena. Sometimes it seems he’s in love and sometimes he shows no consideration for her, not even trying to understand her feelings or getting frustrated. He resents her, treats her as a nuisance and is often dismissive. Leena can’t seem to figure out which way is up and their relationship seems to mainly focus on sex. Zand also uses it as a distraction tool when he doesn’t want to talk or answer something Leena is asking. We see a lot of the physical side of their relationship but not so much outside that.

Given that one major plot point has yet to be resolved, I expect least one more book is coming. Overall, it’s an intriguing premise but poorly executed (and edited).

I received a free copy of this book and have chosen to leave a review.

This is my first 3 ⭐️ review for the year and it’s a bittersweet feeling.
I went in super excited from the synopsis and the energy it was giving but once I started it was a struggle getting into it. For a good chunk of it I was trying to figure out what actually was going on. Is it vampires, other creatures, ghosts? In hindsight I see where it hinted at and made it clear what we were dealing with but that was after going back. It just was too…I don’t want to say confusing but just hard to follow at times.
I did enjoy the mystery elements and ominous vibe but it was just an “eh” read for me. Not bad but not an absolute favorite of mine.

OMG! I absolutely loooove Zand and Leena! Between the all the mysteries, the spice, and the vampires I was hooked!!! It took me less than 24 hours to read all of this, which is all 4 books in the Gold Blood Phrophesy! It says there will be a 5th book and I cant wait for it!! There were some spelling errors but it didn't bother me very much, but I know how some people are. Overall, the plot and storyline flowed and kept me on my toes! 5⭐️

Honestly, this started out very promising. I was excited for the concept. Small town, secret society, vampires, old blood lines. Sounds great. It was kind of lumbering to get through and I did not finish this book due to just getting lost in the plot holes and meandering story.

I wanted to like this book since it was about vampires which is my favorite subject. However the writing is disjointed. Things not explained such as how Leena was rescued from Templar at the end. It jumps from one thing into another without no real content. There were a lot of spice scenes and some just made me cringe to be honest. The terms used just made it sound like a Victorian sex scene instead of modern. I struggled to finish this one and as much as I hate to leave a negative review I have to be honest. The story was good, but it needs a lot more context added in certain parts.

"Moonvine" by K.J. Devoir is a gripping and darkly atmospheric tale that will captivate readers from beginning to end. Set in the eerie City of Souls, a cemetery town shrouded in mystery, the novel follows Leena Sperling as she delves into the secrets of Moonvine Manor, the former funeral home once owned by her missing sister.

From the moment Leena arrives in the City of Souls, she is plunged into a world of darkness and danger. The ominous atmosphere of the town, with its tombstone-shaped welcome sign and foreboding aura, sets the stage for a chilling and unpredictable journey. As Leena uncovers the sinister secrets of Moonvine Manor, she finds herself drawn to Zand Byron, a deeply disturbed and dangerous individual whose dark allure threatens to consume her.

Devoir masterfully weaves together elements of suspense, romance, and psychological thriller to create a story that is both haunting and mesmerizing. The complex relationship between Leena and Zand, fraught with tension and danger, adds an additional layer of intrigue to the narrative. As the stakes escalate and the darkness closes in around them, readers will find themselves unable to look away from the page.

What sets "Moonvine" apart is its exploration of the human psyche and the depths of darkness that lie within. Through Leena's journey, Devoir delves into themes of love, obsession, and the blurred lines between good and evil. The novel's vivid imagery and evocative prose bring the City of Souls to life, immersing readers in its shadowy streets and haunted landscapes.

In conclusion, "Moonvine" is a compelling and atmospheric read that will leave readers on the edge of their seats until the very end. Devoir's talent for crafting tension-filled scenes and complex characters makes this novel a standout in the realm of dark fiction. Fans of psychological thrillers and Gothic romance will find much to love in this haunting tale of love and darkness.

2.5/5 round up to 3.

I liked the overall concept of this story but I was not drawn in. Historic artifacts, vampires, and human vamps.

Zand the MMC reminded me of Nathan from Dethklok. He didn't feel sexy or romantic to me. The relationships felt superficial. Kimmie and Silas seemed authentic.

I liked the multiple character views which set up the sequels but I didn't really get any in depth feelings or relationships between the characters. I felt they lacked chemistry and enough was skipped or fast-forwarded that it lost some of the storyline.

Unfortunately I didn't feel a connection with any characters and felt it was a bit of a slog.

Moonvine by KJ Devoir is a dark vampire romance novel. I have heard such good things about this book so I caved and decided to read it. It was definitely worth the read. A dark, brooding, handsome vampire; why yes please! The world building in this book was fantastic. A gothic old cemetery town brought to life. What a beautiful place to imagine and perfect for this story. The plot was interesting. Of course the characters were as I described above.
Leena comes to town after inheriting her sisters house. She appears to be strong willed and level headed. She catches the attention of Zand who becomes obsessed with her.
I loved the story. It was as they say my cup of tea. I can not wait to read more!

I really wanted to like this book. But so many times I found myself cringing. I am all for dark romance and spicy scenes, but to me it felt as though the author chose as many cringe inducing words to describe certain things. The overall plot of the book was okay. I would have given more starts if I didn’t feel like there were so many parts of the book that felt rushed. The entire ending of the book felt as though the author was just trying to get it over with. A few times, scenes felt as though they were being repeated verbatim. Parts of the book held my interest and were somewhat enjoyable. I wouldn’t be opposed to reading more of the author’s work, however this one just didn’t do it for me. This is my comfort read.
(A bit weird to say since it's dark-ish, I know, but the way its written, I can't explain it, however I really enjoy reading it.)

I would maybe like it even more if it was longer, and maybe a bit slower, pace wise. (Some scenes that I would like to be longer with more details and emotions are actually cut short, thats my only negative thing about this book.)

Ok so this premise was good it gave me very much Morganville vibes but a little darker and steamy. The characters were ok and certainly lived up to the dark paranormal romance vibe.
But I had a few issues and I can only be honest. There were bits of the book that didn’t quite add up and there was something really off about it all. A few times I wanted to stop reading. It just wasn’t for me.

A beautiful gothic romance.

Leena Sperling, and her mother who is slowly reverting into her younger years n the 90's because of dementia, decide to move to move in to the intimidating Moonvine Manor. The house used to be a funeral home - how narly? It Also previously belonged to her Rachel, her half-sister, who first goes missing and then presumed dead. Since her sister's alleged murder case is still unsolved she can't help but be paranoid - what if the killer is still out there? Then there's Zand Byron the grounds keeper who also turns out to be Rachel's cousin, having rights in the will to stay. Hence she has no choice but to deal with the mysteriously hot and cold man. How does she deal with him, do her online studies and work and take care of her mother at the same time? So much to juggle for one person, and I did feel sorry for her. It's not easy.

Zand has an old soul vibe. He's deathly pale in stark contrast with his dark hair, a young looking face and you must be thinking - Vampire, right? Absolutely, and dangerously alluring and scintillating. As soon as he appears in the book I'm enthralled, because why is this man so hot? He wants to hurt her believing she'll never be one of the Byrons, one of them, but first, he wants use her...paint her. Things begin to change and becoming darkly confusing and nightmarish when Leena starts to start having Rachel's dreams. Dreams in which Zand and she were being intimate with. But he's her cousin, so what the heck is going on? Also, this is a dark romance, if it's not your cup of tea then skip away. He is hiding something that pertains to her sister and there's a lot more to him that meets the eye.

Personally, I love this book. It did start off a bit slow for me at the beginning, but the pace slowly picks up sometimes after the 10% mark. Leena's character was amazing to get into and Zand is my new Vampire mans obsession. I am absolutely into vampires again after a decade of losing interest - this being my second vampire book this month. Rachel's mysterious death/disappearance was intriguing and I found myself wanting to learn more about her and how Rachel unravels everything in then end.

This is wonderfully dark, an skewed and twisted dark romance that is easily a good read for me. I feel like it is a tad bit too long, some parts could have been condensed, but that's just me so please don't mind me saying. The aspect of mystery in here was fabulous and I've been on the edge of my seat until the end. The tension between Leena and Zand is delicious, I really like their back and forth interaction. His constant battle between not paying attention to his inhuman side and loving Leena is intriguing, his character is alluring, dark and almost addictive. Plus, he's hot. And Leena on the other hand tries to observe all the unexplainable things happening through a psychological/logical lens because she's studying psychology after all. The ending is happy, however, it does elude to continuance so I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

Gold Blood Prophesy is a horror romance with a gothic tilt. It was a good read. At no time did I decide to put the book down, so I would say it was interesting. There were moments when the horror came out in the book but I wouldn’t say it goes overboard. The setting, the poetic language, MMC, and the haunting gave the book its gothic feel. The premise of the story was a woman moving to a “graveyard town” after receiving a manor house in her half-sister’s will, with the stipulation that a cousin, who happened to be a broody gorgeous man, would live in the carriage house on the property. It is unclear at the beginning whether her half-sister was really dead and this became a mystery throughout the story.

I didn’t get a strong sense of the FMC’s character. The character development felt a bit flat on her. She had no past or emotional life to speak of. She did seem very well adjusted and practical and entrenched in the scientific mindset. The most interesting thing about her was her studies to be a psychologist because this made her analytical of the emotional life of humans and then vampires. Something interesting was that she thought vampires exhibited antisocial personality traits and she went so far as to say vampires are all sociopaths and psychopaths. There is some proof of that in the book, but you can decide for yourself. The MMC was better developed as a character, but I think this happens often in romance books. His internal monologue and his past gave us a sense of who he was. The villain had few chapters devoted to him and I felt that even his character was better developed than the FMC. He was very evil and definitely a psychopath. There were a couple of interesting side characters that gave the book some flavor

It was a different take on vampires. The vampires lived in covens, which is nothing new. But the vampire culture was interesting. It was democratic, well it was supposed to be democratic, but there were also vampire politics in play that were somewhat developed throughout the book. I would have loved to have read more about this, as it was a major part of one of the two coinciding plot lines, the other being the vampire romance. Something of note in the book was the “awakening”, in which an ancient vampire would be raised as a ninth coven member by democratic vote. This was where the book started to really get interesting, and there was a bit of action surrounding the vampire awakening.

The language at the beginning of the book was lovely and poetic. This continued inconsistently throughout the book, but there were times when the language was poetic and then crass on the same page. There were times when the grammar felt a bit choppy, which was surprising based on the language at the beginning of the book. There was some fluctuation between past and present tense but the only thing that drove me a little crazy were the repeated paragraphs and phrases, as if cut and pasted at various points in the book. I think that most of this can be fixed by a good editor

The one thing I found to be really unsettling was when and how we found out the FMC was pregnant. It came out of nowhere and there was very little explanation. Maybe it was supposed to be an epilogue? It just didn’t feel like it was tied to the story at all. But overall this was a good book.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I came across this book and was intrigued by the blurb. It had so many things I enjoy in a book: dark gothic romance, vampires, secrets, mystery, and ancient lore.

I really like the world-building with this story. I could picture the creepy town of Moonvine and Moonvine Manor. The author did a great job in detailing the vibe and mystery surrounding the town. I mean, a cemetery town? Yes, please! I also liked the mystery surrounding Leena’s half-sister Rachel’s disappearance.

The characters were unique. You have Leena, our FMC, who is thrust into this creepy town and the new owner of Moonvine Manor. She is trained as a psychologist, and she is clinical in her thinking. She has a lot of plates she’s trying to juggle but she’s determined to make a good life and take care of her mother. And then there is Zand. He is Rachel’s cousin and lives in the caretaker’s cottage at the Manor. He is secretive, closed-off and definitely does not want Leena to be there.

This has all the makings of a great story but for me it fell flat. I wanted more from the MC’s. For me, there were parts of the book that were rushed and parts that could have gone more in depth. I also wanted more character development, especially for Zand. A lot of what you get from Leena is her trying to diagnose Zand’s mental state. Even when she fully believes what Zand is, she still thinks of him as a psychopath. And with Zand, yes, he becomes drawn to Leena but I still don’t know how he actually feels about her. I didn’t feel the chemistry between them like I had hoped. To me, it was like he cast a spell on her and that was that – it’s a done deal.

There were also places in the book that could use some editing. For example – there is a scene in the book where Leena, Kimmie, Silas and Ritter are at the Manor and Silas gets trapped in the basement. Leena tells Kimmie and Silas to wait in the hall because she didn’t want him in her bedroom. How could Silas wait in the hall if he’s trapped in the basement. It should have been written as Ritter, and not Silas.

I know others have raved about this book and I really wanted to love it, but I couldn’t. But that’s okay, everyone has different opinions and reading tastes. If you’re into gothic vampire romances, I’d still say give this one a shot. It might just hit the spot for you.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I was drawn to “Moonvine” by K.J. Devior from the blurb alone. I wanted to know what happens between Leena and Zand. I wanted to know the twists and turns their relationship would entail.

Leena, our FMC, is a curios level headed woman that is strong headed and uses logic every step of the way until reality catches up to her.

Zand, our MMC, is the morally grey man that states he has no feelings or no care in world until he meets Leena.

The story starts off with Leena moving to the City of Souls due to an inheritance from her sister. When driving into the city, she feels an ominous feeling of the town just outside the Bay Area mountains. When she arrives to Moonvine Manor, Leena is plagued with its mysteries and secrets. She is left wondering about her sister’s disappearance and is soon falling so far and deep down the dark rabbit hole. It is amoung this rabbits hole that she meets Zand Byron, who soon becomes obsessed with Leena and the emotions she brings out in him.

Pros:
The books are fast paced with a mix of spice and plot weaved throughout them. The books tie in seamlessly. The plot thickens and get resolved with from start to finish. There is suspense, thriller, spice, a good plot that is cohesive throughout all 4 books (The Gold Prophecy series: His to Haunt, His to Hide, Hers to Hunt and His to Hallow).

Cons:
The book felt a bit rushed and missed some sections to help the reader create an image of scenes throughout the books. It felt a bit choppy and lacked some much needed details.

I’ll leave this snippet here because it really stood out to me:
“I never needed a boyfriend. Not that I didn’t want one. But I had my girlfriend for emotional support and a trusty vibrator keeping my hormones under wraps. What did I need a guy for? I was independently focused on my goals, taking care of Mom while working my way through college. I landed a fancy internship in an office buildings overlooking the gold-arched bridge on the bay. But then I met Zand Byron, and everything changed”

All in all, I enjoyed this series and would recommend. There’s so much going on and has the reader on the edge of their seat throughout the entire series. I recommend any reader check the TW to make sure that they are up for the ride.

This is a book with 4 parts. I don't wanna say much because I don't wanna give anything away on the mysteries in the first book.

Lenna and her mother inherit a house in Moonvine after her half-sister, Rachel, disappears and is presumed dead. While there seems to be a staged suicide, Leena is determined to find out what really happened. Once Leena and her mother, who has been diagnosed with dementia, move in, Leena finds out that her sister has sent her on a mission to find her, whether dead or alive.

Meanwhile, part of the will states that the groundskeeper will remain on the property in the carriage house. Leena will learn that this man is Rachel's cousin (on the other side) and is not happy that Leena and her mother were left the house in the will.

The house has a reputation of being haunted and lots of magical and mystical stuff happens. The groundskeeper is keeping keys to parts of the house Leena is not allowed. There are banging and klanging noises that continuously come from the basement, and OH YEAH, the house used to be a working funeral home and the basement is where they did the embalming! The house has secret passageways, coffin elevators, and phantoms.

Through the 4 books, you will find covens, betrayals, love, psychology, death murals, golden blood, vampires, shifters. Because of how much of these books are mysteries that slowly reveal themselves, I don't wanna give too much away.

There is really only one issue I had with this book, Leena and her trying to rationalize everything through a psychology lense was super annoying. You cannot be rational when it comes to love or magic. I won't say a lot but whoof...it was rough and I don't completely like her.

Good spice and plot. There were times where I was legit scared. Enough characters come in and out the book to keep everything flowing and interesting. Multiple character POV.

I received a copy of this book and chose to write this review.
