When a beautiful naked woman Eve, unexpectedly turns up at his back door, Adam, an amateur wizard, is not sure if it is his good fortune or not. The young woman has an attitude and starts bossing him around straightaway, issuing commands; which strikes Adam that she may be a practitioner of the black arts. Adam, who has been dabbling with spells from a book he has found in the basement of a derelict house, decides to play along with her until he learns more. Adam soon discovers that she is a witch, and she somehow, has been transported from the 1950s to the present day. Meanwhile, he has been having some terrible nightmares. A being, who calls himself The Master is haunting him and is after his book of magic. In recurring dreams, Adam meets his demise several times in the Master’s hands and is unable to find a way to escape him. Adam can’t tell if Eve is going to turn out to be his friend or a foe and tries to keep his own abilities a secret from her. He is also hiding another terrible secret from her, which he knows will have to come out sooner or later. Meanwhile, his worst nightmare is about to come true as the Master turns out to be real. Adam is in a fight for his very survival and is not sure if he can win. All the time he also has to maintain the semblance of normality in his hectic, day-to-day very stressful life, which is also about to fall apart as the police are out to get him for something they suspect he has done. The book is a dark-humoured, fast-paced, fun Urban fantasy thriller.
Having completed several Creative Writing courses, including at Birkbeck and Faber, I took up writing seriously in 2012. My first novel ‘The Arbitrator’ was published in July 2016 and 'Get Rich or Get Lucky' was published in January 2017. Both books enjoyed surprising success and great reviews. Updated versions of Get Rich or Get Lucky and The Arbitrator (with two new chapters) along with e-books were published on Amazon in 2019. My two new novels 'The Polymorph' and 'The Three Witches and The Master' are now ready and hopefully will be published in 2022. l have also written two plays, one of which, 'Cheating Death' has been successfully produced on stage in February/March 2019 at The Cockpit Theatre, London. It ran for three weeks and enjoyed surprising success. Further novels are at a planning stage. An updated version 'Timbi's Dream' a children's fantasy story in rhyme was republished in 2019 as an e-book only and features more improved rhymes.
A must read black humoured Urban Fantasy Thriller.
An amazing fun book to read from start to finish. Adam is subjected to a series of nightmares by the Master who threatens to kill him if Adam does not follow his instructions. Adam is not sure if the Master is real or not, but caves in under the threat. Then a witch Eve appears at his backdoor, which begins Adam’s roller coaster ride for survival as he is caught in a web of intrigue and magic, whilst also trying to escape some other villains who are out to kill him.
A must read for Urban Fantasy thriller fans and also anybody who loves black humour. Nowaz at his best. Though a sequel to Get Rich or Get Lucky, it should be easy to follow as a stand-alone novel.
So after having so much fun reading Get Rich or Get Lucky, the first book, I was definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the next instalment Three Witches and the Master, and boy I’m glad I did. It was so much fun.
Adam (the main protagonist) has an unexpected guest arrive at his door “Eve” a witch! who throws his world into turbulence, and to make matters worse finds he is the target of the ruthless and enigmatic “Master” who’s desire is to kill Adam and his guest.
The plot is solid and the multifaceted characters undoubtedly add depth to the story, it was a rollercoaster ride, with every element a good read should have, drama, magic, mystery and a good dose of humour. It was faced paced but easy to follow.
I have no doubt that fans of Urban fantasy thrillers will love this book as much as I did. Definitely recommended.
This is a thrilling book to read even without having read Get Rich or Get Lucky, as a stand-alone novel. The characters are quirky and really interesting, though some of them are a tad on the wicked side. The book deals very well with mischievous adult themes and moves at a fast pace throughout without a dull moment. The magic just adds a different flavour to this thriller. Highly recommended, but don’t miss out on any of Max Nowaz’s other books.
As this is my second read of the same author, I was a bit familiar with his well-drafted and engaging writing style with well-written dialogues.
The title suggests a scenario of magic and wizards, which makes it more adaptable for a wide range of readers.
The main plot is followed by instilling some parts of the book "Get Rich or Get Lucky" by the same author. Hence, the main character and scenario remain the same.
Adam is an amateur wizard who is learning and practicing magic from a book he found in his basement, but is interrupted by a beautifully dangerous witch "Eve". He was neither willing to accept nor reject her presence. Struggling with spells and seeking information about her drives the story further with the involvement of more characters.
A dark character is introduced in his dreams who acts like a master and commands him to follow, or else he will be killed. Not only this, he is yet to discover if Eve is a friend or an enemy. There is a lot for him to explore.
The thriller, mystery, fun, and drama are well woven into this read to engage the reader. I find it the right proportion of drama with mystery.
Adam meets Eve but it isn’t the eve he expected. After having some bad dreams Adam does with the master whose existence he doubts tells him to do in the next morning a beautiful naked woman shows up at his door. She can be sweet she’s definitely beautiful but she’s also very demanding and until Adam catches on he doesn’t know what to think of her. Things only get worse when her sister Phyllis and Cindy show up and as they say girls just want to have fun. I thought the first book with Adam and his wife and Dick was so hilarious but three witches and the master had me laughing out loud keeping my husband awake. Adam still worries about someone breaking in this house and taking his book of spells but that is the least of his problems. If you love hilarious magical realism and Bonnie British humor then you’ll love this book I certainly did. After reading the first book with Adam I couldn’t wait for My Sister to read it and after reading this one it was the same this is funny smart writing and I cannot wait to read more from this author. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
The Three Witches and the Master by Max Nowaz is an incredibly fun book and is so well-written. From the first page to the last, you'll be glued to this page-turning novel. Adam's life takes a terrifying turn as he becomes the focus of a never-ending barrage of horrific misery put together by the enigmatic Master, who issues a lethal ultimatum. Adam succumbs to the pressure despite his reservations regarding the Master's existence. However, the intriguing witch Eve's abrupt entrance pushes him into a turbulent survival quest brimming with mystery and suspense. Adam gets caught in a deadly web of jeopardy while desperately evading evil forces. If you need a good, satiric laugh, this is the perfect book for you. Highly recommend it for a fun read that is definitely not the norm.
I picked this up out of pure curiosity. I mean, a naked witch named Eve from the 1950s showing up at an amateur wizard's door? It's like a magical sitcom waiting to happen. And let's not even get started on Adam's misadventures with that mysterious book of spells. It’s a reading roller coaster, with Adam juggling his life around Eve, dodging the sinister Master, and dealing with his own secrets. It's chaotic, it's magical, and it's... well, it's a lot. But in a good way. Mostly. There is a lot of humour, that lightens the books theme at times. The characters are quirky, and while Adam might not be everyone's cup of tea (he's got his issues), he's undeniably intriguing. Eve, on the other hand, is a force to be reckoned with. She's fierce, and she's not here to play. Unless it's a game of "who's the most powerful witch in the room?" Spoiler: It's always her. It was engaging, and there are moments of genuine tension, especially with the looming threat of the Master. "Three Witches and the Master" is a wild ride. It's not perfect, and there are moments that might make you raise an eyebrow (or two), but it's a unique take on urban fantasy. If I ever find a mysterious book of spells in my basement... I’ll be sure to leave it there, untouched.
I really liked the sequel since it's such a unique, black humorous tale. This second book to "Get Rich or Get Lucy" book is titled "The Three Witches and the Master." It features unique black humour as the first novel and can be read independently of the first book. What I appreciate about the second book is how amusing it is. Amateur wizard Adam pretends to be a man of mystery in order to reclaim his ownership of his house although it won't be simple for him. I don't find the book cover too interesting since it doesn't match the quality of the book. Overall, Max Nowaz is a great story teller and I’d recommend this fun book to anyone who likes fantasy thrillers, but also to those who don't.
Max Nowaz does it again. He has written another captivating book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I have loved every single one of his books so far. He has a unique voice and I adore the humour he uses. The Three Witches and The Master is the second book in the series, and it does rely on you reading the first instalment. However, it is a great journey, and you will not regret it.
This book features new characters, laugh-out-loud humour, and a series of interesting events. Eve arrives on his doorstep and claims that his house was hers in the past. Therefore, she stays. In addition, The Master, an unknown person, has been frequenting Adam's dreams. In his dreams, the Master sometimes kills him. It becomes evident that The Master is set out to not only kill him but also his unexpected visitor, Eve.
The events just keep happening one after the other and, gosh, is it a ride. If you like, fantasy, magic, humour (especially British humour), and a good story that will keep you up all night, then you have to pick this book up. Yes, you should read the first book too, but trust me, it is worth it.
The synopsis of THE THREE WISHES AND THE MASTER by Max Nowaz sounded promising, setting the expectation for noir type mystery with magic at its core. Sadly, the summary may just be the only good thing about this sequel to GET RICH OR GET LUCKY. The author must have assumed that readers will have read the previous novel as much of the action that fuels THE THREE WISHES AND THE MASTER relies on the previous book for context.
SUMMARY: Adam is an amateur wizard learning his craft from a book he found in the basement of the house he purchased to flip. While practicing his newfound powers, he casts a spell that brings a beautiful woman, one of the original three witches, to his doorstep. Having been bewitched and turned into a crayfish in the 1950s, Eve may be a woman out of her time but it's not going to slow her down. She's back and taking over much of Adam's life with her demands while hiding her true intentions.
But Adam has secrets of his own. He's trying to buy his way into the college where he works, juggling multiple entanglements, and dodging a suspicious police detective who wants to put him in jail. He's also been having terrifying dreams about dying at the hands of the Master if he doesn't hand over the book. With so much chaos surrounding him, Adam can't quite decide if he should trust Eve or not.
THE THREE WITCHES AND THE MASTER is laughably bad. Poorly written with stilted dialogue, unlikable characters, and a plot that goes nowhere. The protagonist, Adam is a misogynistic jerk with no redeeming qualities. He's a selfish liar and cheat who doesn't care about anyone or anything other than himself. He disparages everyone around him, and yet somehow the author expects readers to root for his success. Eve is just as bad. She's also out only for herself and has fewer qualms than Adam about using lethal means to get what she wants. Even the majority of the minor characters are despicable.
The plot is a confusing mess. The three witches and master of the title aren't even a factor until the last third of the book. The first two thirds are filled with Adam's sexual conquests and references to the action of the first book. Adam's internal dialogue takes up a fair amount of the novel but none of it clarifies or steers the plot into any type of discernible narrative. Sometimes, audiences can find things so bad they are good fun but THE THREE WITCHES AND THE MASTER is just plain old BAD.
Thanks to #NetGalley for providing access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great follow-up to Get Rich or Get Lucky, which I read over a year ago. I've read a small handful of Nowaz books, and it's nice to get back into this universe he created (especially around the spooky season!). Nowaz does a good job continuing Adam's story; this book is very creative, and the fingerprint of writing style and dark humor are familiar. It does feel like Adam has changed a bit (more introspective, almost jaded), which I assume is a consequence of what happened in the last book (or my aging memory).
This story starts when Evelyn (Eve) shows up at Adam's house, unaware that her uncle no longer lives there as she'd been crayfished (heh) many years ago. Adam spends a good amount of time unsure if he can trust Eve and only reveals himself in pieces as necessary to Eve. They embark on a magical noir journey, and the doubt causes twists right up to the last chapter.
If you're a fan of Nowaz, this is definitely worth the read! I'd check out Get Rich or Get Lucky first, though, so it's easier to follow the timeline and references of this book.
The Three Witches and the Master by Max Nowaz In this book we find Adam and he's challenging himself to improve the magic he's learned. There are references to others in Get Rich or Get Lucky book but there are is enough information you get the backstory of what happened. Story focuses on the three witches and Eve is the one who he brought back to life. Her sisters are still fish in the pond out back. He's a learned magician on his side. He takes the magic from others and he's able to do so much more damage to others. He meets the master himself and it could be the end of him. Story also follows others who are involved in buying up stock from the college Adam teaches at. There are many entanglements and Adam tries hard to keep out of jail. The sisters have a turn in what happens to Adam also… Never saw this ending as it did, wow! Think we will be hearing from Adam again... Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
The Three Witches and the Master by Max Nowaz Is a character driven story with an abundance of magic, humour, mystery and bucket load of suspense. The story follows Adam, an amateur wizard whose life takes a dramatic turn, when Eve, a witch from the 1950s magically lands on his doorstep. This is an action-packed read, full of magic and witchcraft, and it kept me engaged from beginning to end. The characters are unique, each with their own little quirks adding humour to the story. The ending, in particular, had a most satisfying conclusion to this whirlwind of events. The Three Witches and the Master is a page-turner that gave a fresh perspective to the genre. The plot is definitely imaginative, the characters were well-crafted and humorous, and it is full of suspense and excitement all the way throughout (not just in parts). A great addition to the urban fantasy genre, and Highly Recommended.
The story is something like a sequel to the book "Get Rich or Get Lucky," as the story starts from the same point as where the previous one ended. Adam, our central character, found a book of magic spells in his basement, which he was practicing. Then arrives a "suspicious woman" at his doorstep, claiming to be an inhabitant of the house for some time. Torn in the situation and unable to understand what and why it is happening, he juggles around the situation. He tries to hide the thing while at the same time trying to find a situation. This doesn't end here; someone in his dreams, calling himself "the master," is haunting him to return the magic spell book. He has a lot of drama to deal with. The drama set around the book, Witch and the Master, is entertaining. Sometimes you would feel pity for Adam, but at another time, you would feel that everything was going right. The entertainment quotient of this book is high and can definitely grab a good place in your reading list.
The Three Witches and The Master by Max Nowaz could be the text manual of what not to do if you found a book of spells in your basement. With Adam opening the book of spells, his life was never the same again. Nightmares at night by The Master, demanding the book back or else. Haunted during the day by a demanding witch. She has been changed back from being a crayfish for many years and shows up at his doorstep. Then there is Adam’s problem at work. Never say things can only get better. Adam found new ways in his life to get worse.
Max Nowaz has a unique writing style and dark humor; that keeps the reader entertained. The Three Witches and The Master is a sequel to Get Rich or Get Lucky but could stand alone. Periodically, you feel the author maybe went too far, but I felt that was his signature style. Overall, I laughed, raised my eyebrows, and decided to keep all strange books alone.
Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2024 When a beautiful witch is transported from the 1950s to Adam's doorstep and refuses to leave because she once lived there, Adam is forced to navigate a never-ending path of obstacles which seem to emanate from the Master, a dark presence who commands him from his dreams to follow the rules or face a horrific ultimatum. In 'The Three Witches and The Master', by Max Nowaz, readers are taken on a journey of didn't see them coming: twists and turns, revealing an engaging plot with well-crafted characters which will keep you invested till the last thrilling page.
Can Adam trust this enigmatic witch? As an amateur wizard, he's not so sure, as his life spirals out of control and nightmares plague him, he wonders how long secrets can be kept.
Adam is an amateur wizard who has been experimenting with spells from a book that he found in his basement. The book begins with a naked Eve from the 1950’s showing up at Adam’s backdoor. He isn’t sure what to expect at first and doesn’t know if this is a good fortune or not. It turns out that she is a witch and things get interesting when her two sisters show up too.
Adam starts to have some bad dreams with a master giving him commands. What happens if Adam doesn’t listen to the master in his dreams? Are Eve and her sisters friends or enemies to Adam? This book will keep you guessing!
This was a pretty hilarious book full of humor and quirky characters and a lot of strange situations. It is definitely a unique book! It is a fun read that had me laughing out loud quite a bit.
The Three Witches and the Master although a sequel to Get Rich or Get Lucky can easily be a stand alone novel. This fantasy novel has some humor as Adam is navigating his life now that Eve is no longer a crayfish. His powers become stronger and his life with Eve becomes more prominent. Steady pace read, getting to the juice of the story quickly. Anyone who loves a great mix of magic, humor, and romance will enjoy The Three Withes and the Master. Although the ending felt rushed I can see it being an opening for a third book.
I read this book over thee days as I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. How does Max do this? It’s got a lot happening from mild sexiness, a bit of intrigue few villains popping in and out. Great story from start to finish definitely one of Maxes best books. Could Max actually be the main character???
Excellent story. What would you do with a book of spells. Sure, but others will want it. This page turner unveils a world of supernatural in the modern day. Good story even without reading the prequel. A page turner with some magic and adult themes.
Max Nowaz has reached new heights in Urban Fantasy writing with this novel The Three Witches and The Master. I thoroughly enjoyed this fun book for what it is and am looking forward to the next instalment.
His latest book! Once again an intriguing story and captivating read! Can only recommend the author and his previous books! Looking forward to the next one!
I downloaded the Kindle sample of about 50 pages. It felt like I was on the phone with someone telling me about a movie they saw and it wasn't very interesting. I guess you had to be there.
As this is my second read of the same author, I was a bit familiar with his well-drafted and engaging writing style with well-written dialogues. The story is like a mix of magic and mystery with lots of surprising turns. It all starts when Adam, who is just a beginner at doing magic, gets caught up in a really interesting situation. A mysterious and strong-willed woman named Eve shows up at his door, and from there, things get pretty magical and wild. The author does a great job making the story full of uncertainty and excitement as Adam tries to figure out if Eve is a witch.
The characters in the story are a big highlight. There's Adam, who is still learning magic, Eve, the mysterious woman, and this scary figure called The Master. Each one is well-described, making the story more interesting. Adam is struggling inside, not sure if he can trust Eve and trying to keep his magic skills a secret.
The story is a mix of magic and mystery with cool characters and lots of surprises. It's like a rollercoaster ride of supernatural events that will keep you really hooked.
