I thought this book was decent. I do have to give it credit for being one of the only LesFic books, I have read, with a main character that was paralyzed from the waist down. I think Mae did her homework and tackled this extremely well. What stopped this from being more than 3 stars, for me, was how I connected with the book. I felt like I was watching a black and white TV from far away. The story was there, in front of me, but still distant and it stopped me from feeling immersed in the book.
I liked the main characters, but again I didn't really connect with them. You do feel more for Conner, especially in the beginning of the book, but she too drifts away a bit. Shawn, on the other hand, has a tough shell that never really cracks enough to get to know her.
What I found very interesting was the wheel chair basketball. I was disappointed that the book didn't have more of this. The ending especially got a bit "dopey" in which every problem was fixed in this grand way... when I would have just settled for an exciting game of basketball.

This is a book that has bounced on and off my maybe pile. I finally pulled the trigger and read, despite the ugly opening, because I'm on a search, at the moment, for the "other". Like, this book here has both someone in a wheelchair, and a person of color.

Unfortunately I couldn't really get into the story for some reason. Didn't help that the book opened the way it did. With Connor Maguire acting like a doormat and being all whimpery about towards Victoria.

Interesting enough story. I admit I liked the first part/half better than second. I kind of got into a skimming mode there. Which is frustrating. And unfortunate.

Superstar women’s basketball player, Connor Maguire is at the top of her game. The world is her oyster and she’s in great demand. Her life just couldn’t get any better. Until the fateful day of her accident on the court, when everything came crashing down around her and her world is turned upside down. Her life as she knows it has been destroyed in the blink of an eyelid. Connor has to change her whole lifestyle. Her life can never be the same again.

War veteran and basketball coach, Shawn Tyler, a beautiful woman with a broken heart and many issues of her own, is on hand to help Connor find her way. But, will Connor be open to meeting new challenges and seeing how her life can be?

First off I have to say that I’ve read all of Lynette Mae’s books and have enjoyed them all. Each and every one is well written and well edited. This book, in my honest opinion, is her best yet. Although I hadn’t got a clue about how basketball was played, I still enjoyed the story and could easily follow the games. The story is about far more than basketball. It is a story of survival. A story of how people can have their lives devastated and turned upside down and inside out, but still find the courage to come out the other side bigger, better and more courageous than ever. It also has a tender, sweet romance simmering away too.

Lynette Mae isn’t afraid to write about controversial themes. She has obviously done her research very well. Although the topics covered here are sensitive, they are written with a total understanding and respect for those who are differently abled. Reading this book made me really look at differently abled people in a new light. I had no idea of the problems they faced on a daily basis. The effort it takes to do the simple tasks that I take for granted. I’d never given a thought either to the abuse they may suffer. Although I should have realized. Anyone slightly different is open to all sorts of harassment. So, although this is a work of fiction, this story could just as easily have been based on fact. It’s certainly been an eye opener for me and has been thought provoking.

The main character, Connor, wasn’t very nice to know in the beginning. Self opinionated and a bit full of her own self importance. Although I got the impression that a lot of this was due to her nasty ex girlfriend, Victoria and her manager. But, as the story progresses, we get to see the other side of Connor. The softer, more understanding side. When Connor and Shawn first meet through a friend, war veteran, Elvis, Connor is immediately smitten with Shawn, unfortunately, they don’t exactly hit it off due to a misunderstanding. But, as we read on they begin to respect one another and then begin to feel a mutual attraction. These two main characters are well developed and multi-faceted. They are backed up by a wonderful cast of secondary characters, Elvis, Andi, Red and Diane to name a few, that are equally as important to the progression of the story. Also important to mention is the humor that shines through in the face of adversity. So, although the theme of this book is serious, it’s not all full of agony and angst. The balance, in my opinion, is just right.

So, if you are looking for an excellent read, a believable romance and a wonderful true to life, heart warming, page turner, look no further. You’ve found it. A definite re-read for me.

Very interesting read, I loved the insight into the trials of differently abled people. It makes you think about simple things that you do on a daily basis which are mammoth tasks for others.

I also loved the few lines of Gaeilge, can't beat a bit of Irish!

I liked this book. The story was interesting, I learned a lot of new stuff about wheelchair limitations (and basketball) and I liked both MCs. I also appreciate that the happily ever after at the end didn't involve everyone being miraculously cured of everything. It's a bit annoying when that happens in book with disabled characters (even though the characters themselves would've probably loved it).

Conner Maguire is at the top of her game – literally. She is a world class basketball star negotiating contracts and sponsors, in a high power relationship and has just set the league points record.

When the unthinkable happens Connor is left with nothing. Her sporting life is over, her relationship in tatters and her self worth destroyed.

A Vet suggests she tries out a differently-abled sport, and she begins to find a new sense of self and a new sense of direction. But whether she can open up her heart to another wounded soul remains the biggest challenge.

--------------

Lynette Mae has written a lovely book that traces a life-changing journey. At the start of the novel Connor is wrapped up in her sport, her career and her life. She is rather self-centered without meaning to be, just a little full of her own success and importance… and not helped by completely selfish Management and PR.

I didn’t really engage with her on an emotional level in the first part of the book. But whether this was intentional or just the scene setting tone, as the novel progresses and the accident makes Connor reassess and grow, she becomes an increasingly likable character. She moves on from the world of power and prestige to become a better person. She realizes that whatever she thought she had done, what she though of as hard work and suffering, was nothing compared to those who fight to overcome disability or survive combat.

We written, well paced and full of wonderful characters ‘Rebound’ is a most enjoyable read. Juxtaposing the vicious Victoria with the struggling Shawn (Coach) Tyler gives us insight into what is really valuable. The supporting cast of Elvis (yes really), Andi, Diane and Red add depth and substance to the relationships. Their friendships form the network in which Connor finds the strength to survive and grow.

Lynette MaeThe dialogue is great, the relationships believable and the characterization of people suffering from various forms of disability show real insight. On top of which we have the internal struggles of Vets suffering PTSD that adds another layer to the pain of survival.

A book that shows us how adversity can be the catalyst for growth and to finding what we really wanted from life. And a lovely, touching, romance that brings two wonderful survivors together.

When I read the blurb for this book, I was intrigued for two reasons. One, I have enjoyed everything this author has written, novels and anthology submissions. Two, it addressed a rarely seen topic...differently-abled characters.

This book has so much, I'm not sure where to begin. I cringed, I laughed, I cried, I cursed, I gasped, and then at the end I said "I want more!". I mean really, who could ask for anything more in a book than to be run through a plethora of emotions?

I was pleased to see an appearance by Mac, a character from both Faithful Service and Tactical Pursuit (Side note, if you haven't read those, get on it!). I just loved Elvis. It was nice to see a positive model of the male gender so intricate to Connor's recovery life. Andi is a joy as the ever faithful best friend. And of course, there is Shawn. A timely example of a war veteran who has seen and experienced more than I can ever imagine. Seeing just a glimpse of what her life after service is like was eye opening even for someone who has friends and family that served in the military.

All in all, I was extremely pleased with this book, and I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you Lynette, for giving us the gift of your storytelling and for your service to this nation.

Buy the book, it's money well spent!

Occasionally a story comes along that challenges the reader to consider a topic we don't usually put into our every day thinking. Rebound is one of those stories. A true display of endurance when life seems to be shutting all the doors, Lynette Mae brings the character of Conner Maguire to the readers heart. Mae's tremendous writing style allows the reader to fully engage with the story feeling all the defeat, the frustration, the challenges, and the desire to dig deep and make the most of each curve life throws in the road. Writing about a strong, athletic, confident woman who loses the use of her legs at the peak of what, she is certain, is the life she is meant to live is the perfect character to help the reader understand the joy of living. I loved that Mae challenges the readers with such a topic and hope everyone takes the opportunity to read Rebound as it is sure to change any reader.

I liked this story for the most part, Connor was a great character and watching her come to terms with her injury and reclaim her life was uplifting. Shawn was a bit harder to like since she changed personality every other page. I've knocked this down a star because I was rolling my eyes towards the end with all the things the team had to overcome. Accident, insurance, gym repairs, injuries to characters, just seemed like one contrivance after another. And the book just kind of ends without resolving many of the plot points that are laboured on over the course of the story.

The supporting characters were fun and interesting and the romance between Connor and Shawn was sweet once it got going and that was enough to keep me reading.

I love supports themed books, in particular, books about basketball. This book pulled at my heartstrings because it was thought provoking on the sense that this could really happen. I play both basketball and softball and one wrong hit can change everything. I was glad we saw both struggles with Connor's accident and Shawn's PTSD. I'm also glad they didn't just try to have her start walking at the end. There's still going to be a struggle and still going to be room for good and bad days. It made it feel more believable. There more to learn and more for these characters to go through, I think.

This book is absolutely wonderful. It charts the story of a woman who has to take a different look at life after an accident. Conner is a wonderfully written, engaging and strong character, she is very human yet inspiring beyond words.

I won't go into the plot because I would rather leave the book to speak for itself.
It's the kind of book that leaves you with a life-affirming and uplifting feeling that makes you feel that life may change the playbook but you can still score the victory.

Lynette may has definitely hit a three-pointer in this book and I look forward to her next book!
