When Shane appeared in her carport, Megan thought she was dreaming. The man who stole her heart, the father of her unborn child was the same man she feared dead. Elated and overjoyed, Megan believes they will finally get their happy ending.
But the happiness doesn’t last long. Shane’s long road home created demons, demons that Megan can’t fight. Past discretions come back to haunt them, and with that comes the paranoia and the distrust. And the trouble doesn’t stop there. Danger threatens their lives at every turn, and when the time comes, Megan must make the ultimate decision.
Will Shane and Megan have their happily ever after? Or will that be another Broken Promise?

"Megan and I are soul mates. Everyone knows it. It just took us longer to realize it for ourselves. We had travel the broken road until we found each other."
I just finished the second book of the series and for once again, i will say that i liked it very much... The story picked up from where it left us on the first book, but the problems for our heroes didn't stop there... They had too many problems to face... Their lives had become a fight for survival and they were struggling against each other and themselves also!!! But i will explain you more later...
Well, after all this chasing by the cartel and with Shane declared a dead man, Megan was trying to get a hold with her life without him and by waiting the arrival of their daughter... As we saw in the epilogue of the previous book, Shane was alive after all and he returned back to her.
"I'm staying with you. I'm not leaving your side, ever again."
But after the hell that he've been through the last 5months, he wasn't the same man... He returned back to his lovely girlfriend, but something was eating him inside... So, when the things started get weird for once again (secret phone calls, Shane being away at the night...), Megan demanded the truth. Shane gave her some pieces but he was still holding back and Megan started to snap on all those broken promises of his...
"I don't blame you. you couldn't have predicted this. There was nothing you could have done." "There was plenty I could have done early on to prevent this crap. But I was stupid then and I'm paying the price now." "The fact that you're here, that you risked everything, means the world to me. I can't imagine the horror you faced."
Meghan was always furious with Shane and she couldn't get why he was putting himself in this dangerous position. She just wanted to let everything behind and to keep goin' with their lives. But Shane's paranoia didn't let them move forward. He was insisting that he was doing it for their protection, but Tommy was insisting that the danger had lowered enough...
"Life wouldn't be worth living if you're constantly in fear."
But after a while, some random incidents started to happen to both Shane and Megan and she had to accept that the danger may be still around... But that didn't stop Megan from not understanding the "obsession" of Shane and to get angry with him all the fuckin' time!!!!
So what will happen with those two??? Can their love survive all the ugliness that torns them apart??? Shane's suggestions are just an obsession or are they real??? Who are after them??? Will they manage to walk through this broken road and to stay together until the end??? Will they become a family for real???
""We're tough, you and me. We're going to get through this. There's no if, ands, or buts about it."
Well, in this book, the dynamic in Shane and Megan's relationship had changed... but what i liked very much was that even all those nerves and fightings and disappointments, they never stopped loving each other and that was showing in their behavior... Yep, all those things that they had to get through tore them apart, but the presence of each other made them stronger as persons... I understand both of them... I understand the reasons that they became like that and i was so sorry about them...
Megan missed Shane and she wanted him beside her to love her and cherish her and to share with him important parts of her life... But Shane was always away and that disappointed her... Yep, i understand her, but sometimes she was acting like a real bitch!!!
And yes, Shane was absent all of the time, but he did it because in his mind this was the only way to protect his girls, to keep them safe and to come to a conclusion with this matter... Okay, he also wanted redemption for all the shits that he and Megan had to live in the previous book!!! But i understand his part also... They were both right, but all this situation was creating an ugly tension between them and my heart was aching for both of them...
"I'm scared out of my mind that I can't protect you. A day doesn't go by when I don't sse a vision of you dead. That our entire family is -dead. And it's all my fault."
From the beginning, i started to have some suspicions for a certain person in the book, and damn me!!! I was so right about him and about the reasons that he was doing what he did!!! And i fuckin' hate him for that!!! No, i won't tell you to whom i'm reffering, but he was a total bastard with "angelic" attitude...
In general, the second part of this story kept the tension and the suspence that there was to the previous book and i really enjoyed the ride... I was so curious about who was behind of all those random attacks...
The only thing that didn't satisfy me was that there wasn't a finality to the end... And now I'm wondering... That was the end or we will have another one adventure to live???

Broken Promises by Melissa Huie is a 2014 publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book picks up where the first book left off. (The Broken Road) Shane is not dead after all!! However, he has not come out of his ordeal unscathed. In fact, he's easily angered, jumpy, secretive, evasive, and is in and out at all kinds of crazy times. Megan has enough on her mind with the pregnancy and she has so hoped to have a normal family life with Shane. But, it appears that is not to be. Right away the fun and games begin putting Megan in danger once more.
This was another action packed romantic suspense novel that started off with a bang and never slowed down. Lots of drama, danger, emotional ups and downs and some truly mind blowing twist and turns. I was holding on to my kindle with both hands while my palms were sweating. I enjoyed this one from start to finish. I went through my share of doubts and confusion before all was said and done, but thankfully everything ended on an uplifting and inspiring note and hopefully we can all breath a little easier now. I recommend reading the first book before starting this one so you understand the background of the key characters. Overall this was a solid well rounded suspense novel. 4 stars
"Please tell me this is real. I can't handle this if it's not real." "Baby, if you're dreaming, so am I."
Ho-ly Crap!!!
Okay, after the cliffy from book 1, I didn't know what to expect from this one. There was so much going on with Shane, Megan, Tommy, and the rest of the gang!! I thought I was ready for what was to come...boy, I wasn't!
This book takes you on an insane ride with many ups and downs. One minute you excited and happy. The next, you want to throw your kindle across the room in anger. That's how you know it's a good story. You never know what to expect.
Shane went through amazing lengths to get back to Megan. But the demons of his past and the nightmares keep coming. No matter how much he tries to break away from it all, he slowly goes back in. Leaving a rift between the couple that has fought so hard to stay together.
The angst in this book was on high! You never knew what was going to happen when your turned the page. I'll admit that I got emotional in a few spots because I can't help it-I'm a sap!!
"We're tough, you and me. We're going to get through this. There's no if, ands, or buts about it."
I was on the edge of my seat in the final few chapters. It was intense!! I was gobsmacked at one point because I never predicted what was going to happen! Great job, Melissa!!
"Life wouldn't be worth living if you're constantly in fear."
I really enjoyed this story and I can't wait for more from this series!! This story is far from over because I still have questions! They will be answered...right? Right?!
"They had to travel down the broken road, until they found each other."
Broken Promises picks up right where The Broken Roads ends. Megan is pregnant and mourning the loss of Shane. One night she opens her front door and the man standing in front of it is the man she thought was gone forever. Megan is shocked, at a loss and not sure if she is dreaming. The love of her life, the father of her unborn child is standing in front of her door.
Megan has so many questions for Shane since she thought he was killed months ago. She sees that Shane has been through so much to get to her that she decides her question can wait till later. Shane has changed, he has gone through so much over but the whole time that he was missing all he was concerned with was getting back to Megan. He knows Megan has questions that only he can answer but he is not willing to go there just yet.
Shane is shocked and happy to see that Megan is carrying his child. After almost losing Megan, he will do anything to protect her and his child. They try to pick up with their lives all the while still living in fear of the Cartel find them. Shane is having a hard time moving forward because he wants to make the Cartel pay for what they did to him and everyone he cares about. Shane becomes secretive. He starts to disappear at night for long periods of times. Shane’s behavior starts to drive a wedge in their already trouble relationship.
Like the first book, Megan is still the loving girlfriend but she has changed also. She no longer accepts Shane’s answers and behavior. When Shane, starts to get strange texts messages and drops everything to deal with “things” she demands the truth. She tries everything to keep the two together, and fight for their family.
Shane realizes that his need to protect Megan, his child and the need for revenge will cost him so he decides to tell her the truth. Once Megan learns the truth she has to decide if she can love him enough to stand by his side. Things get hard for Megan, when Shane start to act like the man he was in the past.
When accidents start happening and Megan and his child are in danger he has to break his promise to Megan. Shane enlists the help of his childhood friends Kate and Cole, and together they will force the Cartel out into the open. OMG!!! When the real threat is revealed, the real fight to save Megan and his family are only just the icing on the cake. The ending of this series was wonderful and epic. I had mixed emotions with Shane from the first book and honestly I wasn’t much of a Shane fan, but he redeems himself in a big way in this one. The ending was the perfect and I wasn’t left with any lingering questions.

Book two, Broken Promises, starts off exactly where book one ends. I am not going to give a lot away in this review because I want you to read this series. Book two has all the same characters plus some new ones that were surprisingly all connected.
Tommy is very much in this story, Megan’s ex-fiancé. I thought he was being a sweet heart, but then things became odd, odd turned to inappropriate then to mouth dropping. You really have to read to get Tommy’s full story. You kind of figure it out, but then you get the big slap in the face at the very end.
I very much fell in love with Shane in book 1, but by the end of book 2, my admiration of Shane dwindled. Now I think they author was not trying to deescalate Shane’s appeal, but his personality was a bit too obsessive for my taste. He was consumed by taking down the Drug Cartel. His mission was to make life safe again for him and Megan so they could move on with their life. The problem for me is how disconnected he became throughout the story. The biggest problem for me was Megan put up with the shit.
Megan, she was a very trusting, forgiving, a watch and wait kind of girl. I was torn with her character. She was in love with Shane, she continued to fight and want Shane despite his absences. She forgave Shane for things that I felt were unforgivable. She not only forgave him, but she didn’t even put up a fight. It was sickening. You can make your own determination when you read the book.
Once we get close to the ending, everything makes sense and the truth starts to unfold and those unforgivable events were unavoidable. They were unavoidable because somebody else was pulling the strings the whole time. The only thing I really would change would be the conclusion to Megan and Shane’s story. I did not like it being told though another person’s eye. I would have liked to experience Megan or Shane’s emotion through their point of view. I wanted to feel their connection again, their fears, their wants as the ending unfolded. They really did suffer a hard road full of stress, fear, and broken promises all worthy of an emotional, passionate ending which they did not get in my opinion. I give Broken Promises 4 stars.
I just finished Broken Promises and I liked it. This is apart of the Broken Road Series so The Broken Road should be read first. This picks up right at the ending of Broken Road. You find out that Shane is not a drug dealer, he was working for the FBI to bring down the Cartel. He was at a safe house when their house blew up and everyone thought that Shane died. Megan had tried to move on with her life, pregnant but with family, she doesn't believe Shane is dead. Shane is finally home and Megan is overjoyed. Megan believes it is all over but Shane believes that it is not. He thinks that the Cartel will still be after him and his family and he is trying to do all he can to keep them safe. Will the Cartel finally catch up to them? Will Shane be able to protect them? You will have to read and see.
I really liked this conclusion, I thought that it flowed really well and that it has brought things an end even though you know what is going to happen. It was predictable in a sense but I still was able to enjoy reading it.
Shane is still a hottie, what makes him more for me is the lengths that he goes to try and keep his family safe. I totally get it. But the only downfall for me is his tunnel vision when it came to that. Yes, protect your family but also at least be honest with Megan. I felt bad for her. Yes I can understand Shane but Megan for me had it rough. She is the one on the sidelines, taking care of it physically at home while Shane is out doing what he needs to do. Talk about a stressful situation. At times I just thought this was not going to go their way. So many obstacles, so little time. One thing that I loved most was them together. They are both stubborn and just wants best for their family. There chemistry for me was hot and it was real. Nothing is ever perfect and I like how Melissa was able to bring that through.
I loved the secondary characters. Kate, Cole, Kyle. They played a pivotal role to the story and even though like I said about it being predictable it still has a lot going for it.
We picked up right where book 1 left off. It has to be a dream. Megan has dreamed this so many times that is can not be true. But he is there. All of her dreams, Shane is not only alive but standing in front of her.
There are so many questions that Megan has for Shane. But he is not as open about wanting to answer them. He thinks he is protecting her by not telling her the truth. As they try to continue to get back to a normal way of life, the Cartel, are always in the back of Shane’s mind.
He starts to act strange again, lots of texts, leaving late in the night, and becoming more and more distant. Megan tries her best to get Shane to tell her what is going on.
As the truth starts to be reviewed, Megan, must learn to trust in Shane even when his behavior is mirroring that of when he was working for the Cartel. She loves him. The Cartel is no where near done with them. There are more accidents putting Megan in danger. Shane is about to lose his mind. He was unable to protect her once he will do anything to protect her now that he has been given a second chance. Now he has his unborn daughter to protect too.
During all of this madness, Tommy, Megan’s ex fiancé is the one constant. He has been there to pick up the pieces each time Shane messed up. Tommy being with the FBI has the insight to what is going on with the Cartel. He keeps saying that they are unorganized and that Megan is no longer in danger. But Shane continues with his search. He knows there was a mole within the FBI. He is determined to kill them all so his family will be safe.
Sometimes promises are broken but in the end, it is what is in your heart that matters the most. Once the mole is revealed (which I never like in the books) the battle to save Megan is life or death. The perfect ending to this book. It allowed us to see that true love is worth very everything.
This is the second book in this series. Everyone told Megan that Shane died in the explosion, but she doesn’t believe it. She has been dreaming of seeing him again. She hears a noise and goes outside when she turns around there he is. She knew in her heart that he wasn’t dead. Part of her thinks that it maybe a dream but its not. Now she will get to tell him that she is pregnant with their baby. The danger isn’t completely gone. The cartel could still be after her and as soon as they find out Shane is back they will definitely be after him. Shane doesn’t want anyone to know he is back at first. Shane went through hell to get back to Megan and he will do what ever he has to do to protect her and their daughter. The things he went through while trying to get back to her have changed him. He feels like he needs to certain things himself and not let anyone else do it. Like if he isn’t involved it won’t be done right or correctly. Just like before things seem to happen right after Tommy has been around. Shane, Kate, and her brother don’t trust Tommy and want to keep anything they find out from him. They are on another dangerous adventure. This one was much more emotional than the first. Both Megan and Shane are headstrong. He is doing everything he thinks he needs to do to ensure their family is safe. Megan just wants Shane to be around and spend time with her and Katie. She feels like they are losing each other do to what they went through and are going through. I liked this one a little more than the first one. I really enjoyed reading this and was an emotional rollercoaster right along with Megan. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I received a copy through NetGalley for an honest review.
This story starts up right at the cliffhanger in “The Broken Road” (Book 1)! (Didn’t read book 1!? Well go do that first!) I enjoyed Book 1 but felt disconnected to Shane, one of the main characters, from the very beginning. It was difficult for me to really root for him and Megan as a couple because I couldn’t really see what Megan saw in Shane. She is obviously head over heels for this man who doesn’t seem to feel the same way or is unable to show his true feelings. It was a bit frustrating…and a little bit of this carried into this book, but I will say that I liked this book better than the first!
This story has many twist and turns that Megan has to deal with. It is interesting and captivating to see how she reacts to these series of events. Megan is smart, funny, outgoing and slightly awkward which makes her interactions really fun to watch play out! She honestly was one of the only reason why I wanted to reads this story. She made this story captivating. Although at times I felt that the story took too many turns and had too many “twists”. At one point I was thinking…."Really? Again? Did that really happen? I totally saw that coming!” Don’t let this deter you from reading this series!
Overall Megan is a well-rounded main character who is forced to deal with her life’s crazy events. She is entertaining. The secondary characters, especially her family, are also well-rounded and add to this story. I find the plot refreshing and something that I haven’t really read much of. If you are looking for fun read that will take you on a ride…these books are for you!
Broken Promises is the next book in the series. We left off in the last book with Megan seeing Shane after thinking he had been killed when his safe house blew up. Although she tried to go on with her life, she never really felt he was gone. What she finds out is the true identity of Shane and the job he does. Since he came back he is going to bring the danger with him and now he is worried about if he can protect Megan, his unborn child and her family. We find as the story goes who the good guys and bad guys really are. While I predicted it a few times, the author did keep the twists going that caused me to rethink my predictions a few times. Megan and Shane struggle to find the balance of his job, the threat and becoming parents to their little girl but Megan is sure she can make this succeed, Shane is that important to her. There are some tense moments that kept me on the edge of my seat and the author did a great job at ending this story up without leaving us with a ton of questions, but I didn’t feel like the series lived up to what it could have. She had a great plot, idea and characters but during both books I felt it was lacking something, that one little thing that would make this story come alive. I wanted to be left with a book hangover with the idea that this story will keep coming to my mind days after finishing it, but I am afraid that won’t be happening. Now with that said I do feel it was good enough for a first read and I would recommend it.

4 stars. What a great series!! I really enjoyed reading this series!! it’s a sad and emotional read, but so worth it!
Will Shane and Megan have their happily ever after? Or will that be another Broken Promise?
Book two picks up right where book one left off. All the same characters are involved with the introduction of new characters as well. I don’t want to give too much away with this review. But I will say this series is definitely worth the read. The characters are so compelling and interesting to get to know. The story itself is emotional but so beautifully told. Great series!!

***As this is book 2, this review contains SPOILERS if you haven't read book 1!***
Shane is alive! Tired, dirty and thin...but alive! Megan can hardly believe her eyes when she sees her long lost love, who she thought had been killed by the drug cartel, standing outside her house. Is she dreaming? No. He's really here but he's changed. He's skittish and secretive and the initial joy at having him home is wearing thin. He's troubled by his demons and she's just not sure whether they'll survive what Shane feels he needs to do, to exact revenge. I found book 2 to be faster paced than book 1, which I found a bit slow going. It's filled with drama, lies and deception. Who is the mole inside the FBI that's helping the cartel? Megan and Shane's relationship is put to the test. With Shane keeping secrets and disappearing at all hours of the night, he misses some of the miles-stones in their lives. Will their connection with-stand all the upheaval? Can Megan maintain her trust in Shane? Can she live with with the danger he seems determined to put himself in? I found there to be quite a few spelling and grammatical errors in this book but was able to look past them. I needed to know what would happen! Will they get their HEA or will the cartel succeed in destroying everything and leave shattered lives amidst their trail of destruction?
Megan and Shane's story continues. Like the first book I felt like some parts of the story seemed to just drag on. And I was skipping through some of the pages. In the end if the first book Megan believes Shane is still alive even though everyone else thinks he is dead, and in beginning of the second book we find out...he is very much alive! He was able to escape before the house caught fire but was still taken by the bad guys. And he finds his way back to Megan with the surprise of her being pregnant. And the fact that her ex Tommy is back in her life if even as a friend. Shane wants revenge for what he was put through and for what Megan went through. And he will not stop until everyone has paid. But it starts to take a toll on Megan and their relationship. Can Megan stand by Shane? Will they ever be able to stop hiding? And can they really trust the people who are supposed to helping them? I would recommend this book.
This book picks right up where book 1 ends. Shane is ALIVE!!! He is tired, he is dirty and a lot thinner than he was but he is alive but will Shane be the same man as he was before? As he starts to explain to Megan where he was and what had happened to him everything starts getting clearer. But Shane is keeping secrets and he is disappearing at all hours of the night. He wants revenge, not just for him, but for Megan as well. Eventually, things will begin to take its toll on their relationship. Can Megan still trust Shane? Will they ever be able to stop hiding and who can they really trust to help them?
I could not put this book down once I started reading it. I had to know what was going to happen next. Would Megan and Shane ever get their HEA or would the Cartel succeed in destroying everything and everyone?
I recommend that everyone go one click The Broken Road series now, you won't regret it!!
I actually preferred this book ALOT more than The Broken Road, where the broken road did pull me back and fore this book did that also but in a lot more ways.
So as you saw at the end of The Broken Road... Shane is actually alive and blimey. In the back of my mind I knew he couldn't be dead. They never actually are are they. So Shane is back but Shane isn't actually Shane, he is a shell of the person he once was. All becomes clear when he starts explaining to Megan where he was when they thought they had killed him and what happened to him, I couldn't imagine going through what he went through but he is still hiding something.. A big something. Is he still working for the Cartel? Surely he wouldn't do that after they tried killing Megan and his baby... would he?
Make sure you read The Broken Road before you read this book.
Ok if I held my breath while reading book one then this book nearly killed me. I was so involved in Megan and Shane journey I sat and read this in one sitting straight after finishing book one.
This book was fantastic. I feel it was even better than the first book. This book took me on a rollercoster of emotions (while holding my breath)
**ARC provided by publisher for honest review*** WOW, ok so I feel bad That I was kind of not liking Shane through this book, he just wasn’t sensitive enough, but I REALLY wanted to believe him. I am itching to tell you all about the ending and all what happened, but I REFUSE to ruin this book for you, so instead I am going to make this the shortest review EVER! READ THIS BOOK, READ THIS BOOK, it will take you on a suspense filled story with an AMAZING ENDING. Did I mention, READ THIS BOOK!!!
I absolutely loved this series. I loved how Melissa made the characters so real ( they bickered like normal couples). It was a great love story/ suspense novel. I highly recommend this series. Oh and it helped that the back drop was from my home state and county. Thanks Melissa
This was a very enjoyable and quick story. It caught my attention from the first page and soon after that I got engaged in Megan's life. Megan, our main character, dreams a lot about her boyfriend Shane, who is thought to be dead in an explosion. So when he comes back after a few months, she doesn't know how to react or what to think. She then realizes that he has changed a lot and their life will be different because he is haunted by the ghost of his past.
Things are more complicated now due to the fact that Megan is pregnant and she can turn easily into a target, since their enemy is still on their trail. Also Meg's ex-fiance Tommy is always near her and Shane is jealous and insecure, seeing things that aren't there. I liked Shane in the beginning, but his attitude of bad boy, his seek for adventure and the obsession with his revenge got on my nerves. Maybe he was built like this way on purpose, I don't know, but this is how I felt sometimes. They fought so often and at times I wondered if they really cared for each other, mostly from Shane part.
Megan on the other hand is the opposite, she only wants a normal life, without all the danger, but she can see that her needs are too much for Shane who starts spending less time in her company "for the sake of his duty". She will have to trust him and to accept the instability.
One character that I really liked was Cole who was always there to save the day, taking care of Megan and her family. He had such a great personality and I would have been happy to meet him personally. Another aspect that was good to encounter was Megan's family - they were so close and always around, making me think of my own family. Another secondary characters as Kate and Kyle were sweet and adorable.
The plot had a few twists, but the accent was put on Megan and Shane's relationship and sexual attraction, giving us some hot scenes. After all the trouble, Shane proves to be a good guy and that all he has done was for Meg's safety. They show us how important is trust and love when hard times are near.
I had no idea at first that it was the second book in a series, because I didn't feel like I was missing something - well, at least until the end when I would have liked to know more background information about Megan and Shane's relationship. For my fulfillment I will have to read the first book to discover more.
As a whole it was a nice read, the characters were interesting to follow and the end gave me everything that I needed. Also the writing was simple, easy to understand and the thing that I enjoyed the most about this story. I recommend to give this series a try, I'm sure many of you will love it.
Note: I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was gifted this book for an honest review. This book was gifted to Crazy Daisy Book Whore's blog on FB.
So this book picks up right where the first book left off. Shane is back, but is so haunted that you don't know what will happen. I said in the first book that I didn't feel like the story was developed enough for me to make that certain connection that I need to have with the main characters. This book didn't do it for me either in that regard. Shane and Megs relationship was absolutely awful in this book. Now, don't get me wrong I didn't completely hate this book so don't take my review as a bashing.
The storyline of this series had the potential to be amazing if somethings were taken out (weird relationship with sleazy cheating vet) and more things (i.e. cartel stuff) were introduced earlier. I love a good book with steamy sex scenes, suspense, murder and mayhem. It makes the read so much better, but you just never got the feel that Megan's character should be in these situations much less be able to cope and live after them. Don't get me wrong again I love an innocent heroine thrown into dangerous situations, but they always come out changed and it seemed like Megan's character was just concerned with Shane. It just never hit that 'Wow" level for me when it came to their relationship.
Now I gave this book 1 less star just because it felt drawn out in some places and then rushed at the end. I definitely knew that Tommy would turn out to be a douche I just didn't foresee the extent of it. Which made for a little better twist. The epilogue was different than most and bonus points for being told from mom's POV. The one thing that would have made this book worth the 2 more stars is some of it being told from Shane's POV. You just never know where his character was at with everything you just get the frustrated version from Meg's POV.
I loved Meg's mom she was a hoot. Kyle is a funny and charming character and the perfect brother. I really liked Kate and Cole wish there was more of them. Tommy's character was written perfectly to make you suspicious of him. Shane's character was definitely the bad boy with the smoking hot body. Meg's is your typical female lead that is lusting after her long time crush but suffers insecurities. A little more background on each of the main characters and a little more relationship details and that would have made it even better.
I am grateful to have been gifted these books and to read this series.
Book 2 takes off where book 1 ended, In this book there are murders, mayhem and burning homes...Shane is still alive, and the Cartel are still after him, this means life for Megan is not a bed of roses... Now Book 1 I gave 3.5 stars mainly due to the over abundance of unnecessary paragraphs on dog walks etc, this book is also fairly long and there were one or two parts that could have been cut (the Vet for instance). BUT overall the storytelling has gotten better and I enjoyed the story having read it in one day.
Ms Huie has gotten the right amount of Sex, her passages on being pregnant will have most women who have been there nodding in agreement and chuckling.
The relationship between Shane and Megan is strained, and with everything going on the angst is on the forefront instead of romance and sweet talk.
I am afraid I cottoned on what would happen in the end, it was a bit of an obvious plot twist, but the way Ms Huie wrote it was entertaining and I really liked the way the epilogue was written...
Ms Huie wrote the epilogue in the POV of Megan's mum, and I think that if this book had been written in a duel POV (Shane & Megan) then the story line would probably given more to the reader, it got a bit monotonous hearing Megan's POV at Shane ignoring her needs as he focused on busting the Cartel, but overall I enjoyed the book and the drama was enough to keep the pace once it got going.
Another plot focus I did enjoy was the way Megan's family was involved in the story, essentially you would see the couple on the run on their own, but having Megan's family involved gave the story more of a sense of drama, some of the scenes are quite intense and I loved how the author had the whole family pulling together. Oh and I want that Apple punch recipe LOL.
The author has given the characters more depth in this book, Kate (formerly Alison in the first book the FBI Agent/handler Girlfriend that Megan was once jealous of) and her brother Cole and ex navy seal, are major secondary characters, I really liked these two, maybe we will see them in a book of their own???
I am glad that I chose to review these books rather than just do a Promo post, and I think Ms Huie will get better and better as she develops her writing style.
I am sure Melissa Huie will be one to watch in the future.
Megan can't believe her eyes, there is man standing underneath her carport that looks like a man that she said goodbye to a few months ago, a man that she thought was dead. Relief begins to wash over her as she realizes that her eyes are not deceiving her, and Shane has in fact found his way home to her and their baby. But the Shane that she knew is not the Shane that is standing before her now, he is broken and in great need of saving...
Shane has been subjected to things in the last few months that he doesn't think he will ever be able to move on from, every time he closes his eyes the images are there, taking over and haunting him. He has been on the run from his captors for the last few months and has been doing all he can to find a way home to his girlfriend and friends. He is broken, disturbed, and struggling to find some normality in his life again, and the moment he finally lays eyes on Megan he is certain she will be able to help him find it. Learning that she is pregnant with his child brings him a sense of joy that he hasn't felt in a while, but the demons are still there haunting him, and he starts to feel that joy slip away. He must find a way to move on and make peace with his past or he may lose his chance at a future with Megan and his child...
I was very eager to read the continuation of Megan and Shane's story, I could not wait to see what Ms. Huie had in store for these two well crafted characters, and see if they were able to find their happily ever after. And after reading the story I can say with complete certainty that it was one of the best endings I have ever read, it completely surpassed all of my expectations!! The two books blended together seamlessly and I had no problem falling right back into the thick of things, it was almost as if I had never left! It had the same level of intensity, passion, action, and heart that the first installment had and it held my attention captive until the very end!! Definitely a series I think everyone should read, it is one of those stories that grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go until long after the last page is turned!!

I really liked book 2 however i liked Megan a little better in the first than the second. She was starting to get on my nerves, but that is really no surprise because im not really a fan of the female character. Shane, well i love Shane but he needs to learn that he should handle being a boyfriend/father possibly soon to be husband a bit better. He really is an idiot sometimes during book 2, but that being said, i still loved him and wouldnt trade him for anything. This story was well written, though there were a few grammar errors, but it didnt take away from the story or the plot and wasnt distracting. The side characters are well written and you are going to love to hate one or two as well as love to love a few. I would definitely recomment this book and this series <3 this author hard <3
Megan is pregnant and alone after Shane is killed in an explosion at the safe house he was hiding in due to his involvement with the cartel. Then one night months later he shows up alive on her doorstep and the rollercoaster begins again. He was held captive and tortured by the cartel and is now obsessed with bringing them down. Unfortunately that put Megan and their baby in danger and pulls them apart in ways they couldn't have expected. Their story has all kinds of twists and turns with a huge shocker reveal along the way. I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put the book down until the very end.
This book picked up right where book 1 left off, and overall I really enjoyed it. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the epilogue. I'm okay with a novel ending on an action-packed moment and then wrapping things up in the epilogue, but this one fell short for me. It was told in the mother's POV, which seemed a bit off to me. I wish it had been from Shane's POV! I was interested to see how Megan and Shane responded to all of the action at the end, but it seemed to me that it was just glossed over.
That being said, I really did enjoy this book and hope to read more form this author!
Amazing continuation to The Broken Road. This books stars off where we left Megan and Shane with suspicion and trouble. Where we had tons of romance in the first book, we have tone of excitement in this book. I couldn't put it down! I love the addition of Tommy bringing more suspicion to the mix of this exciting romance. I am not one to give spoilers, but I will tell you that the end of this book will leave you with your mouth hanging open in shock, tears and excitement!!! I thought my heart was going to explode... yes ladies that good! I want more!!!
