Sometimes death can bring you closer to some people about whom you never gave any thought in your whole life and sometimes death can even wrap you up in an unknown and forgotten past that you have never imagined about. Finding Julian by Shane Morgan is one such tale which will entangle you into happiness and darkness both at the same time. A girl's quest to solve the mystery behind her birth father's death and put those missing pieces of the puzzle back into its original places.
Thank you Shane Morgan for providing me with a complimentary copy of your book in return for an honest and unbiased review.
It's been more than 10 years since Julian has seen her own father but recently, Julian comes to learn that her wealthy father is now dead and hence she visits her very own family home in Narragansett to attend his funeral. Upon arrival she learns another unbelievably hardcore truth that her father has left all his property and wealth to her! Shocking, I believe, considering the fact that Julian is the love-child of her father and also her father left her and her mom even before she came to this world. This scandalous revelation makes her the face of hatred by her step-mother and her step-sister, about whom Julian's father has asked her to stay at Narragansett and rekindle her sisterhood bond with her step-sister. But this truth leaves her step-sister with a pang of jealousy and hatred for Julian. Even she was constantly reminded by her step-mom that she is the result of her husband's infidelity. But among all those painful and hurtful words, she finds a man, her step-sister's cousin, Seven, as well as a mystery and a startling puzzle about her father's death. Seven was asked by Julian's father to look after her and protect her. Learning more and more about her family and her family's business, made Julian to terrify from the whole situation and run away as far as possible from all of these drama and mysteries. and after all those painful ordeals of Julian, she ends up living happily ever after and she finds two new person in her life, one half-sister and another is the love of her life.
The story is highly compelling from the very beginning. It seems that the author has weaved this story so smartly that she doesn't leave any gaps in the mystery. From the very beginning the mystery gets deeper and deeper and you can't leave it until you learn about the outcomes. Along with the well-developed plot, the characters are also too well-researched as well as justifies with the plot, especially, Julian, who is tough as a nail and never loses focus from her path and achieves what her father has wanted her to do. And Seven is a perfect protector cum boyfriend, with all those charming looks of his, who wouldn't fall for him, especially considering the fact that he is way too caring about Julian. There chemistry is sweet and very cherishing. And surely watch out for the sisterly bond between Julian and her half-sister, it turns out to be very good in the end. Thank god, there was a happy ending for Julian, because after all those troubles that she gone through, I wouldn't be able to bear anymore torture for her. All in all, this story is going to leave you bewilder with all kinds of emotions available in this book, from hatred to love.
So grab this book and indulge yourself into this intriguing tale of Julian's!
(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to author Shane Morgan.) 21-year-old Julian is returning to Narragansett for her father’s funeral, even if she didn’t really know him. When there are questions over her father’s will, how her father died, and a dead lawyer, Julian ends up involved more deeply than she expected. Was Julian’s father murdered? Is the will a fake? And how long will Julian have to stay in Narragansett?
This was an okay story, but I didn’t really like the characters, and there were too many little annoyances in the plot.
Julian was a bit of an odd character, and she did annoy me at times. Okay, maybe she didn’t know her father, maybe he wasn’t in her life, maybe it would be difficult for her to grieve for him, but at the end of the day he was her father, and a little bit of respect would have been nice. Acting like attending his funeral is an inconvenience, and wanting to leave before he’s even in the ground, reflects badly on her, not him.
The storyline in this was okay I suppose, but I found it pretty bad that it took a possible murder or two to liven this book up. I didn’t get why Julian’s aunt thought that she would get on with a boy because they were born on the same day, I didn’t get why Julian’s father left basically everything to her (when there was a bit feud between Julian and her father’s legitimate daughter), and I didn’t really think it appropriate that a lawyers secretary knew the details of everyone’s will! There was some romance but it felt a little obvious, and didn’t really interest me. The ending was okay, but I just couldn’t get into this book really. The mystery element was the best part, but overall I didn’t really enjoy it. 6 out of 10.
This wasn't an awful read, but I did start to get bored after a few chapters unfortuntely. I just couldn't get into the story, and the slow pace made it a lot worse. I wasn't a big fan of the main character either, which didn't help.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!
The minute, Shane Morgan told me she had another book coming out I was anxious to read it. I love, I adore her writing style, and it truly captivates me. So, I got Finding Narragansett and I was jumping all over the place, getting ready to read it. But, the book was more than I expected. I started reading it pretty late and I didn't know the story was going to be so enthralling that I won’t get any sleep before I finished reading it. I stayed up all night reading it, because honestly I couldn't separate myself from the kindle, that’s how much I loved it! Finding Narragansett had romance; it showed me how a girl can become independent, how family can make you chance your entire life. It has mystery that will keep to the edge, trying to figure out the plot. It was something different and I loved every single word Shane Morgan wrote.
Julian lives in Manhattan; she has a lot of problems right now. She didn't graduated from school, but got a diploma in Marketing, she doesn't has a job and she is going to loose her apartment. Her mother loves her, but sometimes she is overprotective with her. Despite all of this, Julian found out her boyfriend was cheating with her best friend, talk about true friendship. Her life wasn't easy. Her mother got pregnant with her, but the problem was he was already married and had a girl as well. She gives him one last chance before she leaves for New She gives him one last chance before she leaves for New York, but he stays with his family because he has too. After a while, Julian gets a phone call from her Aunt Bev, letting her know her father has passed away and she needs to come to Narragansett for his funeral.
Julian jumps into a train, thinking she will be there just for the funeral and then come back to Manhattan and trying to solve her problems. Everybody there hates her, except her Aunt Bev, she always called to check up on her and help her whenever she needed it. Arriving in Narragansett she sees her sister Mackenzie, her step mom, and a new guy that is Mackenzie’s cousin, Seven. There is an instant connection between these two, but they don’t act on it. In fact, they pretend there is nothing going on. After the will its read, Julian finds out she inherited the house his family lives in. That’s when trouble really starts. Julian wants out of this, and her mother keeps telling her to come home and sell everything. But, something isn't right. Her suspicions get confirmed; when the family lawyer tells her he thinks her father was killed.
I’m trying no to give any more spoilers. I could ramble about this book for days. The suspense in this book killed me. I didn't know who to trust; one minute I was already making a list in my mind with possible three suspects, the next the list changed. I spent the entire time trying to solve the mystery and figure out why everything was happening. With each page, I found out more and more secrets about the family and my mind was spinning. Talk about a good suspense story. This is the one, the perfect one! Everybody had something they hide. Who can she trusts? And why is everybody asking her if she has what to return to in Manhattan? But, Shane revealed everything perfectly at the end, putting every piece together and revealing the most perfect plot!
I would love to read another story about these characters, and see how they settled done with their lives. I loved Mackenzie, Julian and Seven. I loved the fact the names were original, and not usual names. That was another plus to the story. I didn’t found any flaws and I will read it again with out a blink, that’s how much I loved it! Shane Morgan can write amazing books! She is a magnificent writer, one of my favorite and she will continue to be. She can’t disappoint. Give this book a try and I promise you won’t regret it! I highly recommend this book!

I know that a lot of people see reviews and they start off with our disclaimer that we received this from the author and we are going to report our honest review... blah blah blah. Most of the time they probably don't think people are being honest...
Well let me say that this book truly deserves 5 stars! It's for romance and suspense (two things I love) and it's about learning to accept your family... as odd as that family dynamic might be. I honestly don't want to give the story away and as I have written more and more reviews... I've gotten so much better at not putting spoilers in there. But I can say this... Julian is the "love child" and after her father's passing she has to go back to the town where she was born... the place where her father's wife and daughter live... and face them all.
Seven is just as unique as his name. He is the nephew of her father's wife (so no relation to Julian at all... yea, I had to actually think on that for a minute...waaaaaaiiiiit a minute! Wouldn't that make them cousins... so illegal in all states... ok so almost all states! But nope, no relation...whew!). He makes a promise to Julian's father... but maybe that promise was a bit more than he expected.
This book kept you thinking for sure! I honestly started reading it and stayed up way too late (well, early in the morning really) finishing because I just HAD to know!! I didn't see the end coming. Bravo Ms. Morgan! An excellent book and I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves romance, enjoys suspense and loves a happy ending.
* I received a copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review. * I really enjoyed this book from start to finish! I began the book in the morning and in the wee hours of the next morning I finished it....yeah it was one of those books that once you start you can't stop reading! It has quickly moved to the top of my favorites list and I am looking forward to reading more books by this author! I really enjoyed the story, the characters and the plot. I was "predicting" the outcome all throughout the book and I was so far off....there was no predicting this book and that is a great thing, so many books are predictable and easily guessed, but not this one. I really felt like I was a part of the story and could feel the frustration that Jules was going through and the doubt that she had about everyone in her life....what a great read, thanks so much for the chance to read this book!!! Keep the awesome books coming!!

Death can bring you close to people you least expected, or pull you away from ones that you love. This story is about Loss, Grief, Trust and love. Finding Julian is filled with so much suspense, mystery and that’s a type of stories that I love. How can you not? From moment after her father’s funeral there was some sort suspense. The farther the book progress, the more mysterious it got. All through the book I kept wondering, who could it be? Who could kill Julian’s father and then the lawyer and most of all why? I could not pull myself from the book, it felt like I was trying to solve the mystery along with Julian. I needed to know what happened, I was curious to see if she would be able to solve it. Despite what happened, her father didn’t deserve to be killed. Of course the least suspected person ended up being killer, though I did suspect something off about Gavin, the way he was acting, it was suspicious, like he was up to something.
Seven, first of all I love his name. From all the books that I have read before, I haven’t seen a name after a number, it’s unique. I loved him right from the start, thought sometimes I was frustrated by his actions like Julian was I am sure. At same time I understood why he acted way that he did, he had a lot on his plate. At first, I was suspicious about his intentions, especially once I found out that he was looking out for Julian because he promised her father. I had myself wondering if he even cared for her or if all of that was a chore. The more time they spent together; I could tell that he did start to care for her but seemed have hard time admitting it. I did wonder if there was a reason that he wouldn’t admit it. Was there something that he was afraid of? It seemed like most of characters knew about their feelings towards each other, expect for them. I questioned if they would finally admit it. I was glad when they did.
I disliked her stepfamily from start; they treated her with nothing but disrespect. I knew that they were hurt but that doesn’t mean that they had right to treat her like trash. At least one of them developed a relationship with her, Mackenzie. I tried to dislike her because of how she treated her in beginning but I couldn’t. I was smiling when Mackenzie stood to her mother, for Julian and there were few sisters moments they had too. I have a feeling that they are going have a great relationship. It made me happy that she could at least form a relationship with her sister, just like their father wanted.
Finding Julian is a 2nd book that I read by Shane Morgan and won’t be the last. The book had everything from suspense, mystery to romance. It had me on edge of my seat and so many emotions went through me while reading it. It did start out bit slow at beginning for me, but picked up after only few pages. Morgan is one amazing writer, the one I will read for years to come. A story worth every page.

I received an ARC from the author for beta reading. Loved the story, can't wait to see it come out!
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Julian is on a quest for information. After her father dies suddenly, she's thrust into a world of wealth - and a family that doesn't want to be reminded that she exists. She's the outcome of an affair - and one that ended before she was born.
Her mother gave her father one last chance to know her, before she moved them to NYC - and away from what her mother thought was nothing but pain for her daughter. Unfortunately, Julian was abandoned as her father stayed with his wife and daughter instead. Never reaching out to her - not even before it was too late.
Julian is conflicted, if she should even attend his funeral - but with some prodding from her Aunt Bev, she ends up going and seeing her sister Mackenzie, after all these years. Their reunion isn't smooth - especially after her father's will is read.
What I didn't expect was all the mystery and suspense - and the possibility that Julian's father was murdered. I spent the entire book trying to figure out what the heck was going on and who was responsible. Convinced I had it right at least three different times - to which I was wrong. Shane writes a mystery well - and left me curious as to what would happen next with Julian & Seven.... and even Mackenzie - is there a possibility she can see past her jealousy and forge a relationship with her sister? Their father is gone - they're the only siblings each other has.... and then Seven, oh lovely Seven.... is he too good to be true?
All the lies - the deceit that Julian is thrust into - amongst a family she doesn't trust, and who are just waiting for her to leave and head back to NYC. She is a constant reminder for her step-mother of the infidelity of her late husband - and for Mackenzie, the love of a daughter she could never measure up too.
Lies are revealed, secrets exposed... and a shock that will leave you wondering how the hell you didn't see that coming.
Julian has never known her father, and when he unexpectedly passes away from a heart attack, she feels compelled to attend his funeral to try and find peace and closure for herself. As the product of an affair her father had, Julian and her mother fled from Narragansett to New York years ago, and with the exception of Aunt Bev, her father’s sister, Julian has never known anything but hostility from the rest of the Vandersons. When the terms of her father’s will have her staying in Narragansett longer than she planned, she finds herself in the middle of all the family drama that comes along with being a Vanderson, as well as in the middle of a murder investigation.
This was a fast moving story filled with twists and turns and a bit of romance. Jules is only 21, but she is very strong, independent, and smart. Unfortunately she has always lived her life trying to please others, never wanting to disappoint anyone, especially her mother. But she has always felt that a part of her was missing – the part that connected her to her father. So when Aunt Bev insists she stay in the guest house with her, Jules gives in. Of course this is where she meets Seven – who is her half-sister’s cousin and a whole lot of gorgeous, sexy male. There is an undeniable attraction between Seven and Jules, but Jules can’t be sure if he is nice to her and looking out for her because he likes her or if it’s because of the promise he made to Jules’s dad to look out for her.
As the mystery continues to unfold and Jules learns more and more about her father and his other family, she is torn between wanting to run away as fast as she can and trying to forge a relationship with her half-sister…and perhaps Seven as well!
I don’t want to give anything away, but let’s just say that things, and people, aren’t always what, or who, they seem, and although I had some suspicions about what was going on, there were more twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.
This was a good read for me and I really enjoyed the story that Shane Morgan wove together.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a wonderful surprise to read, I absolutely enjoyed it!! I can't really go into too much detail in this review because there is a certain aspect of this book that I don't want to ruin for the rest of you, but rest assured that it will keep you engaged.
After reading through the blurb, I was unsure of what exactly to expect from this novel, so when I had the chance to beta-read for this author I couldn't refuse. Because Julian is the product of her father's "mistress", she is shunned by his family but has always wanted that connection to her father. So when she learns of his death, she decides to return to Narragansett simply to make peace with herself and then return to Manhattan and her mother. However, the longer she finds herself there, the more she begins to find herself entangled in Vanderson business and begins to develop a relationship with her half-sister and comes to accept herself as a Vanderson.
Julian was a very realistic character. Even though I had trouble connecting with her at times, I could understand her motives for acting the way she did. I enjoyed reading about her constant struggle between wanting to please her mother (who believes her father rejected Julian as his daughter) and wanting to learn more about and connect with her deceased father and half-sister. Seven, her father's protege whom he made swear to look after Julian, was a sweetheart, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching him slowly lower his guard. I'm also glad Mackenzie (her half-sister) and Julian's relationship worked out the way it did.
I don't really wanna say much more for fear of ruining it for you guys. Overall, however, I would definitely recommend giving this book a read. It's filled with romance, mystery, suspense, and loveliness that just blends together so well. Definitely a two-thumbs-up.
I received this book as a pdf file (and with a different title!) for an honest review. There have been so many books lately that I have read that I had no trouble setting down, but this wasn't the case with Finding Julian (which I actually like better than the previous title, Finding Narragansett). I wanted to know "who done it"! Boy was I wrong!
Julian returns to her birth place, Narragansett, too late to meet her birth father, but to pay her final respects in a place where she is not welcome by any of the surviving family except possibly Seven. (Yea I had to look twice at that name also!) Her goal was to go, see, leave. Just that simple... but how many times are our good plans led astray? Once at Narragansett Julian is faced with a hateful widow, half-sister and uncle, all of whom believe they will be the wealthy recipient of a large estate only to find that it has been granted to Julian. Each time that Julian makes plans to sign over the estate to her half-sister another tragedy occurs that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Can she really trust anyone and how can she get herself out of this crazy place?
There were two things that I wasn't happy about. From the best of my memory I believe that Bridget lost her cell phone but then Seven stated that she had called him because she was scared thinking there was an intruder at her house. How could she call him with a lost cell phone??? The second occurrence was when Julian's mother was so adamant that Julian return home with her and how quickly she did an about face when Julian's love was confessed. I felt like it was to quick of an ending during the big build up for departure to have Julian's mothers demeanor change so quickly.
Thank you Shane for allowing me to read and review this book. I look forward to finding out "the rest of the story"!
What happens when you are the unwanted and unwelcome daughter who travels to your father's hometown for his funeral? When Julian father's passes away, she wants to go to his hometown and attend the funeral for closure and nothing more. When she arrives in Narragansett, she already expects the hate to ooze off of her half sister and the rest of the Vanderson family, but she does not expect to run into handsome Seven who she has not met before. While her stay was supposed to be short in Rhode Island, it has been expanded due to the reading of her father's will and then finding out that her father may not have died of natural causes. Jules' stay stirs up feelings of love, hate, and regret from different members of the Vanderson family. Throughout the story, Jules learns that there is more out there for her to embrace in her life and that Manhattan isn't the only place that would welcome her as a home. Seven helps Jules realize that her late father may have cared for her more than her mother or anyone let on. In this story, the reader rides with Jules through her trip to memory lane of her father's life while she was in another state and how Jules opens herself up to someone other than her mother.
This was a wonderful story of misunderstanding, love, and acceptance. I really enjoyed reading this novel.
This book was addicting. I really couldn't pry myself away from it. It's one of those WHO DUNNIT?? murder mysteries where your mind gets played with from beginning to end. You get it wrong possibly every time, until things start coming together and then it's like, AHA! *face palm*
Julian is a tough, smart girl. She's really likable and a great protagonist. She works her ass off to get to the bottom of everything and stands up for herself and her mother against the not-so-nice Vandersons.
Seven. I like this name. It's unique and cool. The guy? He's great, too. Very nice and very sweet. I just wish we got more of him and Julian, actually together. And what exactly her father said to him.
Finding Narragansett is an enjoyable read. I had so much fun trying to put things together and making predictions. Well written, fantastic plot, and a wonderful voice.
I received a PDF from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This novel tells the story of Julian, who grew up without knowing her father - a wealthy, married man who had an affair with her mother. When he dies, Julian travels to Narragansett to attend the funeral, in hopes of resolving her feelings and letting go of the anger that consumes her because her father and his family didn't acknowledge her while she was growing up. As soon as she gets there, she finds out that her father has left her his estate and wants her to stay there to get to know her half-sister. Of course, there's also a handsome man...and a mystery or two to figure out. I also enjoyed the fact that the novel is set in Narragansett, RI - anyone who lives in RI or knows that area will recognize the many details the author included.
The story is a pretty good one, and I read the whole novel in two days (thank goodness for snow days!). However, there are several editing mistakes which distracted me from the novel itself. Overall, a solid effort from Shane Morgan - I'm glad she participated in NaNoWriMo, and I hope she continues to write.
* I received a copy from the author for a honest review. I adored this novel by Shane Morgan and read it in one sitting. Jules is the not so secret daughter of a already married, extremely wealthy man. Her and her mother escaped to Manhattan but it's been over 10 years since she's seen her father but now he's dead and she is expected back at the family compound. I loved the way the story weaves itself to confuse you as to what could have really happened. Jules is shocked to be not only included but singled out in her fathers will. Her half sister and her mother are relentless in almost a Cinderella fashion, and then there is her Aunt and Seven. While she doesn't know or trust any of the other players at the family home she has to rely on someone to help her try to figure out the truth. I was so surprised and just amazed by the end that I actually had to sit and re-read the entire story again.
I received a pdf from the author as an arc. I originally wan't too sure about this book after reading the summary, but when the author asked if I would read it, I figured why not try it out. The story had me interested after just reading a small bit of it. I had to finish reading it to find out what would happen next with Julian's family troubles and her potential relationship. The climax and ending were a bit cliché and sappy for me, but it honestly did't bother me as much as it probably would have in another book. I was already really into the story and the drama just seemed to fit along nicely with the rest. Even though Julian's situation isn't really common in actual life, it had a realness to it that made it believable. I think that's why I enjoyed the story so much, because it managed to make the situation seem normal, like it could really happen in someone's life.
The ending made pump my fist in the air and say 'About time ya'll stop circumventing around your feelings for each other.
Julian was only supposed to go Narragansett to attend her father's funeral.
She was wasn't supposed to find herself wrapped in a mystery and deception surrounding her father.
And she most definitely wasn't supposed to fall in love with Seven.
Even though this book was doused in mystery, it also had an equal amount of Julian's need to be wanted in her own family. She struggled with trying to forgo her decision to stay or go. But as she reeled deeper and deeper in her father's death, she realizes she has something (or someone) worth staying for.
*I received an ARC for my honest review* I was so excited to read this book. It's been on my TBR and so I was thrilled to get an ARC! I could not put this down, I finished it in one sitting. It kept my interest the entire time. The only thing I was expecting a little more from was how it all tied together towards the end. It was a great ending but parts seemed a bit rushed to me with tying things together. But otherwise I thought it was a great "who done it" story with great characters that were easily relatable to and none of them got on my nerves. Which there seems to always to be at least one in a story so this was a breath of fresh air for me :) && I just wish there was a bit more Seven in it! ;) Thank you Shane Morgan for this great story. I enjoyed it immensely! Cheers
Jules arrives to mourn the death of her estranged father whom she has never met. What was meant of finding closure turns into more than just paying her respect.
She is thrown into her father's life. Strained relationships that she never had before like her father's wife (who isn't her mother and how he was already married when she was conceived), an aunt who she has some contact, a bitter older half sister, her half sister cousin whom she is attracted towards.
Her father might have actually been murdered as false wills are discovered. Who can she really trust and what does she really want in life.
I rarely read/watch murder mystery genres but wanted to give this one a try. Julian goes to her father's funeral. She didn't know him all to well but that doesn't stop her from trying to figure things out. This reminded me of the show Revenge a lot. Julian won't rest until she solves the question of who killed her father. While Julian's mother felt her father left them for his "real" family, her father brings her protection in the form of Seven. This was the first book of the author's that I read but I plan on reading another.
This was such a wonderful and enjoyable read. I felt very relatable to Julian and her struggles as I've been through them myself. it was a very fast moving story filled with twists and turns and a bit of romance. And I loved it. But I was expecting a little more from the ending. Honestly can't wait for the next book. And I can't wait to read other books by Shane Morgan she is an author to look out for.
I received a pdf from the author as an arc. Finding Narragansett was a very moving story. It shows you how to find yourself. I recommend this book to everyone. Praises to Shane Morgan. Honestly I read this whole book in one sitting. An hour at the most. I zoomed through it. It's a wonderful novel. It's one of those books that you just cant stop reading until your done.
I received a PDF from the author. I really liked this book...made me feel so many different emotions that it compelled me to keep reading to the end...and then I was wanting to know what happens next...will definitely be looking for more from Shane Morgan...Thank You for allowing me to enjoy your book!
dad is dead his family does not like.. she was only going to be there for his funeral.. then we fined out he was killed.. but who did it.. so as she try to find who killed her dad so fells for Seven and get to know her sister..
the book was easy to read. When you read the fist pager you don't want to put it down.
*I received this in exchange for an honest review. Julian is a “bastard” child who has never been accepted by her father’s family, since she is the result of an affair. After her father passes, she has gone back to town for the funeral. She tries to leave town after the funeral but is forced to stay for the will reading. Her father left her the entire estate: his house, and the remainder of his wealth (he did leave some for his wife and other daughter). He also asked her to live there for 1 month before making a decision and learn about the family business. Of course the wife and family is outraged and freaking out. (It was quite funny listening to them freak out). Julian finds out surprising information and doesn’t know who to trust, especially since most of them hate her anyway. Several twists are down this road with Julian, but every single one of them is worth it! There are characters to love, as well as ones that you will love to hate. With this being book 1, I can’t wait to find out what is next in this world that Shane Morgan has created! Finding Julian is a wonderful book of a woman finding out who she TRULY is, not what anyone wants her to be. It is a great lesson for every person, young and old, and it is brought to light in a smooth way that makes it an easier pill to swallow. I hope that you get this book and start reading or listening immediately. A full 5 STARS from me!
