This was a solid collection of short stories that managed to make the life of a ground pounder like the Unnamed Soldier an exciting character to follow. As much as the world of BattleTech seems to be ruled by MechWarriors, this collection of stories reinforces that there are still many levels to warfare.
This edition is especially fulfilling since it comes with extensive notes from author Loren L. Coleman. This goes beyond just an introduction to the collection as a whole but also detailed discussions of each of the stories and what the rationale for each was. And that's a gem for anyone who has ever even just thought of writing stories for this fictional universe or possibly just wanting to play the role-playing game or the classic wargame.
