I would read: Melt My Heart by Rachel Cross before reading this book as Melt My Heart is an anthology and has a story by Debra Kayn in it.

It's called: laying down his colors (bantorus MC). This story takes place before book 4.

It's a story about an MC members daughter and Bruce who works the bar at Catcus Cove.
------------------------------------------

This was an okay story. It started off great and I really liked it. However, it just fell a bit flat and I decided in the end Brandy wasn't my fave heroine.

The author still needs someone to do a better editing job as well. There were still a smidge of editing issues.

What I liked:
1. Torque learns to let the "sunshine" in his life. He finally fines something that's good and worth not letting go. He finally has someone who won't walk away and has his back. He finds that he's worth something to someone.
2. The scene with Rain and the baby doll.
3. How things work with Brandy's dad... Even if I still don't like him at the end.
4. Still love the Bantorus MC men.
5. Brandy for always standing up for Torque and protecting him.
6. Easy to read in one day.

I'm so consumed and in awe of  these heroes that Debra Kayn has seduced me with.
Take charge and bossy with overwhelming sex appeal. Once they claim
their women it's done and they never waver.

Torque was so amazing and I
wanted his book from the moment he was introduced.

Such a protective man, nearly laying down his life over and over again to protect those that are considered his family ..or part of the Bantorus MC. But with walls built high and shields up protecting his heart..he never really let anyone close.

Then
comes the feisty Brandy barreling through every fortress he had in
place. His body knew she was his before he let his heart accept it. With
danger and suspense on their heels things were explosive. I loved
every moment and especially love how Debra keeps the over the top drama
and unnecessary conflicts from pulling her heroes and heroines apart.

Torque became one romantic sexy biker once he fell hard. I had tears for
days with the encounters with him and Brandy's dad and all Torque did
to welcome them and give them a real home.  Debra. .love this world you've created and am diving into more
now.

The book reveals Torque's background and the emotional baggage that made him the loner he is. The h, Brandy, is hired by Rain to manage the bar after Gladys retires. Brandy is 24 and I think Torque is 19 years older than Brandy. Arch enemy gang Los Li actually planted Brandy in the bar to gather information on the Bantorus MC. Los Li is supposedly holding Brandy's daddy as hostage and she's afraid they will kill her father. All of the details about Brandy's father and the gang holding him was so weak IMO. Day 1 - Torque can't stand Brandy and tells her to keep the hell away from him. By Day 2 we are in love/lust and have an immediate bonding. Brandy admits being a plant and Torque/Rain take over planning a strike on Los Li. It all ends with Brandy's father coming back, shooting Torque and ending up being Rain's bar manager while teaching boxing classes to the kids. I think there was much room for the author to build and deepen the relationship between Torque/Brandy but it all just fell short to me. I read this book 3 days ago and really, I had to go back and review it to remember the points I wanted to make.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

My rating: 5 of 5 ⭐️

Doing anything needed to protect her father, Brandy Haas finds herself working at Cactus Cove, a Bantorus Motorcycle club bar, as a manager. She is supposed to be gathering information to pass back to Los Li, the Mexican Mafia who are holding her dad, but she has no experience around the biker culture. And the dark and brooding looking gorgeous looking hunk of muscle glaring at her is not really making her feel at home, even if he makes her insides twist up.

After a lifetime of hardship, topped by nearly being killed last year by Los Li in an MC confrontation, Bantorus MC's Torque Kendler is a private and cautious man who doesn't give his trust easily, and he doesn't trust the new chick in the bar. There is something about her that just doesn't fit Cactus Cove, even if it looks like she knows what she is doing. For one thing, she is too damn beautiful and distracting, and for another she has no idea of her place in the club.

Despite their initial antagonism toward each other, the sexual draw wins and they find they give each other something unique. But it isn't long before reality comes knocking and Brandy has no way of hiding the true reasons of her presence at the Cactus Cove.

*****

Oh Torque!!!

He's MINE I tell you, mine. Nicely aged, perfectly dented and warped, darkly stained with a rich petina..... Mmmmmmm

I'm telling you, Debra Kayn knows how to portray the most delicious Alpha males.....not a smooth and glib talker in the bunch!! All raw, real, coloured by life and multi-layered.....and so, so scrumptious!! If I could have one complaint, it would be that the leading ladies should be a little less perfect....maybe a little older? A little plumper?? Maybe a little more like...........say, MOI??? :)

The story line is an interesting one although not necessarily unfamiliar, but Debra manages to give it new life by creating unexpected responses from the cast of characters, giving the entire story a different feel. No knee-jerk rather asinine behaviour, but more mature and common-sense responses that really appealed to me.......as an adult.

The characters in this book, and in particular Torque, are given a solid context and they each have some heavy baggage to contend with. But what I absolutely adore about them, and what is ultimately unique about this book versus a ton of others out there, is that they DON'T use their issues as an excuse for bad behaviour.......they own it and cope with it. Just like real life.

I guess that is what appeals to me most about Debra Kayn's books, the genuine feeling I get from them. Sure, I know it is fiction, but it is fiction kept simple.....close to what could be real. And that makes it easy to transpose yourself, at least for the duration of the book, in the middle of the action.

Because Torque is an 'I am what I am' kind of man who just wants his slice of sunshine, and Brandy will do anything to give him his daily dose, because he gives her what she never thought she needed. And ultimately, because Debra Kayn was able to convey all of that to me...... I give all of them 5 big shiny stars!!!

✨Steamy, charged, stormy path to sunshine.✨

I debated whether to give GRASPING FOR FREEDOM a 4-Lime or 3 1/2-Lime review, ultimately deciding that while I enjoyed the novel, the things that bothered me would not allow me to give it a full 4-Lime review.

Don't get me wrong, there is great, no, sizzling chemistry between the hero with a mysterious past, Sergeant at Arms of the Bantorus Motorcycle club, Torque Kendler, and the new, equally mysterious manager at the MC's bar, Brandy Haas.

Torque and Brandy are both strong individuals with painful pasts which they've chosen to rise above, always looking out for those they care for. When they meet, the attraction and don't-mess-with-me attitude is mutual :)

My issues with this novel stem from Brandy's reasons for being there. In my opinion, there needed to be more explanation about her father's 'condition' and how he ended up in the hands of Los Li, a group that's part of the Mexican mafia.

Torque suspects something is 'off' about Brandy's story and how she came to be hired by Bantorus MC at their bar, Cactus Cove. There's a moment when her secret could have been revealed but Brandy offers a plausible explanation that Torque accepts. In part because he's more concerned about trying to manage his attraction to her, when she's been declared off-limits to the club members.

The other issue I had concerned the reasons for Los Li deciding to target Bantorus MC when a truce was supposed to have been declared at the end of book #3, SOOTHING HIS MADNESS. We do get an explanation, but it could have been fleshed out because I was left with a couple of questions about how Torque really ended up at the top of the Los Li 'hit' list.

These two plot points aside, at its core GRASPING FOR FREEDOM is about a man and woman who are brave enough to let someone into their hearts. You will go 'aww' when you find out what Torque does to demonstrate his newly-discovered love for Brandy and cheer when she comes to an important realisation about her relationship with her father. :)

So, to sum it all up, while I would have liked more detailed explanations about certain things, I enjoyed getting to see Torque and Brandy 'find their happy' and being able to catch up with other Bantorus MC members whose stories were featured in the first three books.

(GFF can be read as a stand-alone novel.)

This was an ok read for me, I have read all the books in this series so far and this one just seemed to be missing something. I had a hard time connecting with the characters for a lot of the book and I almost felt like everything with them was too rushed. Brandy is the new manager for the Brantorus MC bar and she came their for one reason, Los Li a rival MC sent her with the threat of her fathers life. Now Brandy has a job and thats to get as much info. as she can so that she can get her father back home and safe. What she never had planned was Torque.

Torque has healed from being shot and he's more than happy being all alone, so when he see's Brandy he don't trust her and when he spends more time with her he finds himself battling between wanting her and not trusting her. Soon wanting her wins out, but Brandy has the clubs protection and Torque will have to answer for what he has done.

As Brandy and Torque spend more time together Brandy finds herself falling in love and the weight of her secret soon becomes to much, and she will have to decide if she trusts Torque enough with the truth. With Los Li putting on more pressure The MC will have to make plans of their own the keep the club and their families safe. But when all is said and done there are still many things left that may force Brandy and Torque apart when they both finally found love.

This wasn't a bad read but I felt like this was way to rushed with Torque and Brandy. One second Torque couldn't stand her then the next he couldn't get enough, But once I got farther into this book it did feel like we were getting more of Torque and Brandy's relationship. We also get to check up on all of the member of the MC from previous books and we get a great look into Torque's past and what made him who he was today. This book can be read on it's own but its so much better if you read with the series because of all of the build up to this book that you would miss out on. Overall this was a good book I just wished that there had been more of Brandy and Torque falling in love so that I could have felt more contacted to them.

Torque Kendler, Sergeant at Arms of Bantorus MC fights to keep his past hidden, while protecting the one woman who's capable of bringing chaos down on Pitnam out of desperation and love. *Absolutely loved this book. I liked the fact that even though he is so much older than she is they still seem to fall madly in love with each other and even if it means he could lose everything. Of course like all relationships they had their ups and downs but she would not let that come between them. For him, her being off limits made it more difficult for him because it is pretty much sitting to where he has to choose the club or her. Luckily his brothers are ok with the situation and allow it to happen. She seems to have had a rough start in life and the fact that she is being forced to work for the clubs enemy, they still seem to accept her and understand her situation and are willing to help her out. This was a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone!

2nd reading: Still really like this one. Bumping it up to a 4.5, and since I round up, this is a goodreads 5 for me.

1st reading: I've been waiting for Torque's story for a while now - he's been so quiet but also so supportive of all the Bantorus women (and kids) in the other books in the series, and he definitely deserved his own story. We not only learn about the current problem in the book that draws Torque and Brandy together but also Torque's backstory.

The Los Li - the main enemies of the Bantorus MC - are causing trouble again. This is what brings Brandy into town. She comes to work in the Bantorus bar as the new manager - she's young, she's feisty, and she's carrying the world on her shoulders by trying to help her father but going against her principles to do so. But she has reasons, that's for sure. On her first day as the new manager, she and Torque meet, and that's that. Torque has finally fallen even if he doesn't think of himself as worthy.

Torque and Brandy together - wonderfully HOT and STEAMY! They desperately need each other, and even though it's trouble that brings them together, they both lighten up the shadows in each other's lives.

I do love most of Kayn's books, especially her MC ones. She is editing better or has hired an editor, but there are still glitches with misused words (anarchy for hierarchy, for example), missing apostrophes, especially the ones that replace "is",and poor sentence punctuation (mostly commas) that sometimes do impede the story. I love having her books quickly but wish that they would go through a better editing/proofreading process before publication. I'd be giving five stars if this happened.

It's no secret that Torque likes to unnerve his lady, "the keys to the car, sunshine." He grinned, enjoying her aroused confused and knowing he was the one who put her in that condition." He also makes no secret to being attractive to her, "yep," he whispered, dipping his head and inhaling. "You, your body, your smell, your tight jeans, and...damn, those boots." I mean he gets the most joyous news and loves to share it with Brandy, "he rubbed his lips together, staring at her mouth. "I received the clubs permission to have sex with you." Underneath everything that is Torque he is a really caring guy, especially when it comes to Brandy, "his body stilled. "Are you sore?" And he'd do anything to make sure she was kept safe, "listen." He placed his hands on each side of her face and forced her to look at him. "The only way I can protect you is by telling you the truth, and claiming you as my old lady. I know it's hard to hear and I don't blame you for what you're thinking. But, I'll do right by you." And well he makes the most delicious promises, "he pressed his pelvis against her. "No matter what, you'll be in my bed every night. My co** will be inside you every day at least once or twice or four times, and when I wake up, you'll be there with your happy, making my life a better place. I'd say I'm okay with that." And then there are the times Torque is all animal and it's sexy as hell, "let me take care of you, babe," she said, tilting her face. A low growl came first, and then she was up in the air and tossed on the bed. Torque landed on her, bracing his weight."

I loved it! More than book 2 and 3 for sure.

Torque Kendler, Sergeant at Arms of the Bantorus Motorcycle club, tenaciously safeguards his marked past. Shot twice by Los Li and nearly killed last year, he wants to hold on to the familiar and retain his freedom. However, there are too many changes happening in Pitnam for him to trust anyone…especially the new chick managing the bar that's giving him attitude and consuming his thoughts.

Sent by Los Li to work at a biker bar called Cactus Cove, Brandy Haas expects to get the information she came for and save her dad from the Mexican mafia. Worried about her dad, struggling at her job, and scared of failing again, she adds to her problems by lusting after the most dangerous biker in the MC. One biker, one hothead, one wonderful gift Torque unknowingly gives her could destroy everything she's trying to protect.

Torque has healed from being shot twice by Los Li gang. He seems to be happy alone and doesn't encourage people to get to close to him so when he see's Brandy he just doesn't want her around even though there's "lust at first sight".
But soon he gives in to the attraction and ends up in Brandi's bed.

Brandi, knows she will be in trouble allowing herself to get close to Torque but she cannot stop the attraction.

I felt the book was to short for these 2 characters. It felt like I didn't spend enough time with them as in the previous books but I loved their connection and relationship.
Loved the action and the fact that I got more about the other couples.

If I could give this book 6 stars, I totally would. I have been in love with Debra Kayn's Biker books since I stumbled on to Breathing His Air (my favorite book of 2013.) Grasping For Freedom, well left me grasping for more! I just can't get enough of these badass bikers and the woman who love them. I only wish I could climb inside the book and become part of the story. With every book, I get a little bit of crush, But with Torque.....it is love I tell you! Love! I even found myself doodling his name, really!

Torque has been in the other books and I was happy to see him get his story, and what a story it is. I knew there had to be layers to him, that we just didn't know about. Brandy was the perfect girl to help us find those layers. Both are running from demons and past actions, and we get see them learn to trust each other as they face their past and their future.

Kayn is excellent at keeping things real and not in a in your face kind of way! One of the reasons and there are many why I love these books, is that Kayn lets us revisit past characters without making them seem forced into the story and they don't over power the new characters or rehash what has all ready been done to death! Kayn is also great at giving us insight into possible new books and makes us crave more of these very Alpha males!

I am already anxious for the next book and I will still be dreaming about Torque for sometime.

This is installment of the Bantorous series we finally find out what the story is on Torque. If you've read the previous books you know he's been shot twice and came close to dying. The manager of Cactus Cove the bar owned by the Bantorous club has retired and Brandy Haas is the new manager hired by Rain to run the place. She's young and fiesty and more than capable. Right away she rubs Torque the wrong way. They butt heads but can't seem to keep away from each other.Brandy has a secret though. She's in trouble. Los Li the Mexican mafia and a enemy of Bantorous has her dad and she's there to spy on them and pass secrets to Los Li in the hopes of getting him out of their hands. Torque has a shadowy past and he's a loner just the way he likes it but Brandy gets under his skin and when she finally tells him what's going on he protects her and swears to help her get her dad back. What i love about this book is that even though both Brandy and Torque had troubled pasts they don't let it keep them from moving forward but together they help each other start to heal and actually live fuller better lives. What i like about the series is that the club members are family by choice and they protect each other. The men are alpha makes but the women are tough as well and even though this is supposed to be hard motorcycle guys they still have their soft spots and let them show. The characters feel real. Good series from book one and going strong in my opinion.

Grasping For Freedom begins when Brandy gets a job at the MC bar. She is there to get information about the MC to help get her dad out of trouble. The only thing is she never expected to fall for one of the bikers. And she falls hard fast. Torque doesn't want a woman or anyone else getting close to him. So when he sees Brandy he knows she's different but he still has to have her. And once he has her he can't seem to let her go even though he wants to. But he knows she's hiding something, and once he finds out they may not be able to be together anymore..

I liked this book for the most part. I felt like once it hit the halfway point it sort of just went by super super fast. It was like the characters were just in love, and everything else was set in stone. It kinda got a little bit boring after that. But until that point I enjoyed the story, and I loved all of the characters. I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, but I was still able to read this one and understand stuff for the most part anyways. Not sure if I will read anymore in the series but this book was ok.

I received this ARC for an honest review. I wish I had 50 more stars.
I am so in love with the Bantorus MC it isn't funny.
I seriously love MC books and this series is my favorite.
Torque had a rough start in life. Betrayed by his father and framed as a teen he was thrown into a very adult world. Fighting for his survival he emerged a closed and private man. His life began with the Bantorus MC. For more than 15 years he has loyally supported his club and his brothers. He's defended the club and their old ladies almost losing his life.
Brandy has worked hard taking care of everyone for more years than she can remember. She endangers herself by going to the Los Li MC to help her father who is on a path of self destruction
Torque and Brandy clash from their first meeting at the Cactus Cove Bar. As a Bantorus employee Brandy is protected from all amorous brothers, but Torque has other plans for the new bar manager.
This was a great addition to the series and I'm hoping for more!

T O R Q U E ~ I should just say 5 stars & walk away, but since that won't tell you enough, here is goes!

He is my new favorite book boyfriend! Who doesn't love a jerk with a heart of gold? I loved how he didn't apologize for who he is, but he still took care of Brandy because that is what she needed after taking care of everyone else. I absolutely adored this book & I thought no one could surpass Rain in this series, but Torque absolutely stole my heart and ran! Who doesn't want a man that will take the decisions out of your hands and give you what you need sexually and emotionally when you have been taking care of everyone, but yourself. This is the guy I dream about!
If you haven't met the Bantorus MC you don't know what you are missing. Debra Kayn is a one of a kind author and her books just keep topping themselves. Anything I have read by her has been awesome! Pick up this book now.

Debra Kayn never ceases to amaze me with her story telling and this book is no different. It's an exciting ride. Her biker always keep me entertained

What's a girl to do with a daddy who can't stay out of trouble? This time, Brandy's dad has gone and gotten himself involved with Los Li and she will do anything she can get him away from them. While working as a spy for Los Li at Cactus Cove, the club owned by the Bantorus Motorcycle club, she meets Torque. Though he tells her to stay away from him, she can't resist him. He can't resist her either. Soon, they hook up and her secrets come out. How does the club react to this news? How do they react to Torque breaking one of the rules about not hooking up with an employee? Can they save Brandy's dad or will there be another battle in Pitman?

Torque is probably the most "tortured bad boy" of this series. No time for love, disheartened by years in prison, betrayed by his own father. Brandy is the new girl in town, definitely has an agenda though. Blackmailed into getting dirt on the Bantorus MC by the mysterious Radiant(who I thought was Torque's father). It's an unlikely match but when they get together-hot smexy times. Loved that Brandy's dad is a crazy bad$&@. Slade's son Kurt should definitely get a book of his own, love the strong silent types, lol.

Loved it! Another great read by Debra Kayn. Interesting storyline that sucks you in. Torque's a badass biker who feels he has nothing left to loose but his freedom again. Torque wants to deny the instant attraction he feels for Brandy but can't. Brandy is a damsel in distress but at the same time has backbone & a saucy mouth. Hot chemistry & steamy sex. Love this series & would definitely recommend.

Loved Grasping for Freedom, book 4 in the Bantorus MC series, all because of Debra Kayn's ability to give voice to the wonderful characters, Torque who appeared in the earlier books & was obviously an important member of the MC. This story was all his; he really was so appealing, no wonder Brandy was swept off her feet before she knew it! As usual, I'm working my way through this series & it's every bit as good as good as the 1st book, Breathing His Air.

I really enjoy Deb's book and this one is no different. A member of a motorcycle gang and single, he can have anybody he chooses, but the one he wants is the new bartender and she's off limits. Will he let that stand in his way? Read the book. Looking forward to more from Debra Kayn.
