John Pendleton Kennedy was an American novelist and Whig politician who served as United States Secretary of the Navy from July 26, 1852 to March 4, 1853, during the administration of President Millard Fillmore, and as a U.S. Representative from the Maryland's 4th congressional district. He was the brother of U.S. Senator Anthony Kennedy.
I had to read this book for my Southern Lit class. Though I enjoyed most of it, I'm really glad to be finished with it. Unfortunately, that means that I have to move on to yet another Southern Lit book. And its only slightly shorter than this one.
IF you can find this book, and IF you're a big Southern history nerd, and I mean you really like the intricacies of the Old South (good and bad) you'll love it.
