DEATH BY DEVOTION is Book #9 in the Bestselling Caribbean Murder series, which begins with the free book DEATH BY HONEYMOON (Book #1)--a #1 Bestseller with over 100 five star reviews on Amazon!
Before they get engaged, Cindy urges Mattheus to meet his long-lost Caribbean daughter, whom he has never met. Sixteen years ago, after a one night stand, the woman became pregnant, and Mattheus quickly left. Mattheus’ beautiful, volatile, fifteen year old daughter, Andrea, badly needs him, and she wants him to come to Anguilla, where she lives, so they can get to know each other. One caveat, though: he has to come without Cindy. Andrea has a mother, and one mother is enough. Mattheus feels his daughter is in trouble, feels compelled to go, and abruptly leaves Cindy behind.
Convinced that her relationship with Mattheus is over, Cindy returns to the States, ready to start her life again. A few days after she gets back, amidst the excitement and a wonderful job offer, she receives a startling call from Mattheus down in Anguilla: Andrea’s stepfather has been killed and Andrea was found beside him, covered in his blood. Mattheus, desperate, begs Cindy to come down and help. Not only has his daughter been taken into custody—but now he is a suspect as well.
Unable to say no, Cindy returns to the Caribbean to help find the true killer and to attempt to free both Mattheus and his daughter—but she soon finds that she’s up against an underground web of danger on the island, and it may be too late to save all of them—including herself.

This is the first and only book I have read in this series or by this author. The plot is not too bad and the book is clean. I agree with other reviews I have read that this author definitely needs an editor. I am an addicted reader, but I'm no experienced reviewer. However, I could hardly believe this author is a professional writer. Some of the punctuation and grammatical errors may have been made in the preparation for a digital copy of the book, but the writing style just seemed so amateurish that I found the reading irritating. That said, I wanted to see how it ended, so I continued on. I found the ending to be sudden and unsatisfying. I'll not read another of this author's books.
Sorry, but this was a very badly written book. And the editor, if there was one, certainly did not do a great job. The story was contrived and almost implausible, this is the second book I have read from this author can’t remember the title of the first one but it was a Death by..??? Something or other....will I ever learn? No more!
I’ve had a rest from the “Death by” books for a while as I I just felt not enough care was taken in proof reading as there were typos galore along with terrible grammar.
Sadly this book is no different and it really spoils the reading of the book. Nothing changes. Just employ a proof reader of set up an ARC group. It’s not difficult and doesn’t need to be expensive.
The story itself isn’t bad at all, although the sycophantic bowing and scraping to Cindy is pathetic. I really don’t see why people always have to tell her how great she is.
The on-off relationship between Cindy and Matheus is very wearing with both being equally as jealous of the other when all they’re doing is talking to someone as part of their investigations.
Good story ruined by lack of care and an amateurish author. I’ve two books in the series still in my library and I will no doubt get round to reading them but I’m not buying any more unless there’s a significant improvement.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
The storyline was ok but the typos and grammatical errors are awful making it a very frustrating read. The ending was too sudden and implausible, I shan't be looking for another book by this author.
Cindy encourages Matteus to meet his daughter from a long ago fling and the two find that her and her mother are not at all what they thought.
There is another mystery to solve and Matteus' daughter is trying to turn him against Cindy as well. Once again, their relationship is on the rocks and Cindy isn't sure it will ever work out.
They are good at solving crimes together though, each using their own strengths to bring to the team and get the job done.
Death by Devotion is book 9 in the Caribbean Murder Series by Jaden Skye. This is an interesting murder which takes place in the Caribbean. Cindy has come back home after solving a case in the Caribbean and after breaking up with Mattheus. Or at least she thinks they did. Mattheus has a daughter from an encounter on the Island fifteen years ago. Cindy thinks he needs to get to know her so when she calls, Mattheus immediately leaves to go to her leaving Cindy who thought they were going to get engaged. Instead, he chose his daughter. Once home, her problems are not over. Her ex- in laws are trying to get her house. She and Clint bought the house and put it together before leaving for the Caribbean on their honeymoon. Clint was murdered on their honeymoon and he left the house to her. Now his sister is threatening to take her to court to get the house. Al, Clint’s former best friend, tells her there is a job that is just right for her in New York City as a crime columnist. She has wanted her own column in a major newspaper. She does call them but tells them she needs to do something before thinking about this. Mattheus has called and asked her to come back to help him prove his daughter Andrea did not murder her step-father. When Cindy arrives on the island, she is immediately thrown into the case. Mattheus takes her to see Petra, Andrea’s mother. She does not want anything to do with Cindy and just wants to mourn losing her husband, Cain, and her daughter. Did Petra have something to do with the murder? After all, Cain had beaten both Petra and Andrea. Did Andrea kill him? When they go to the police station, Cindy learns the police are not too excited about working with her, especially since Mattheus was a suspect too. He had threatened Cain if he ever laid a hand on Petra or Andrea again. Sean is assigned to work with her. What has Cindy gotten herself into? Will she solve the case or have to go back home leaving it unsolved?
This book was a 4 in concept and a 2 in execution, so I gave it a generous 3. It was a "draft" for me as there were so many editing errors (wrong words and missing words in sentences, formatting issues, spacing issues, punctuation issues specifically quotation marks), that made it almost impossible to read. The only reason I finished it was to see "who dun it". I will read this author again, as I have in the past, but she needs a new editor! I won't finish another of her books if it is poorly edited.
Matthews leaves to get to know his daughter only to call in a panic asking Cindy to come help get her out of jail. She and her father are both suspects in her step-father's murder. Crime, corruption and troubling knowing who to trust causes problems for theses P.I.s who have seen so much betrayal and loss.
I love these books but I agree with everyone one else! The layout is horrible there's too many grammatical errors and if I were too buy these books at their prices of $6.99 I'd be pissed! But the story line grabs me every time! And I'm constantly looking for the rest of the series for free..as I have gotten all her books..
Finished this up last night. Going to take a break before I read the next one. Have to get over the obvious typos and incorrect names, etc. Really like Skye's writing style, just not her proofreaders.
A young girl, accused of murder on a corrupt Carribean island is defended by Cindy and Mattheus. While the link said this was a 5 star book on Amazon, the answers to,the murder are never fully revealed and the writing was banal. It was okay for a free book
This book is written in an amateurish manner. The author writes like a lovestruck girl of fifteen. Whoever the proofreader was needs to find a new line of work. Mistakes such as using "wrap" instead of rap is unforgivable in published novels.
First time reading this author and enjoyed the writing style. Nice blend of the characters and their relationships. Definitely will read other book written by Jaden Skye.
