Doubt is the first book of the Among Us Trilogy series.
At 21 years old, Harry and Cristal are fresh out of university with their PhD’s. Labeled all their lives as being ‘weird’ and ‘geeky’, they find true friendships with other outcasts by playing online virtual reality games. Now they face the challenges of starting out in the work force, while at the same time trying to get used to their ‘adult’ identities. Harry Doubt, a genius programmer and creator of the popular online game ‘Truth Seekers’, has a personal mission of his own; to find his mother who went mysteriously missing while volunteering on a peacekeeping mission in Palestine. His gaming friends and followers inadvertently join in helping him find her; believing that they are on missions to find out what has happened to their own missing loved ones. During Harry’s missions, Cristal and the team of ‘Truth Seekers’ stumble upon things that make them doubt the reality of their own lives. As they get closer to the truth, they realize that there are spiritual forces among them both good and evil, but in learning this, they activate a chain of events that start the beginning of the ‘end of the world’ as they know it.

LOVE this book. This book is very well written, with an easy flow. I had to begin rereading it again last night. I like Doubt. I love Cristal. My favorite parts of the book are the attractions between the characters. I reread the scene when Cristal first meets Kerim and she thinks she has a crush on someone else, (Harry), but Kerim obviously likes her and she refuses to admit she is interested. I was hooked by the first page when Harry's father dies during a dinner party. Then his mother disappears. It doesn't hurt that Harry is a university senior when his father passes away, AND he sells a game he has created to Google, AND he is given the opportunity to have a job created for him. If I wasn't pulled in by the first page, certainly the first chapter would have done it. I was a little confused when I read the scene in Gabriel's apartment and there is an earthquake, but quickly remembered when her father first disappears and she has an event in her room. There are so many wonderful things I can say about this book; the storyline, the writing, the characters, the imagery, but I do not want to give too many things away. I do love mystery thrillers and I think this book has not let me down. The anticipation of what is going to happen next, did I make the correct assumptions or am I headed down a different path? I have recommended this book to my daughter and have told other family members about this book. They are not allowed to borrow my book, with the exception of my daughter, because I know it is one I will read and reread. I would buy this book online. I am excited to see what will happen in books two and three. Thank you Anne-Rae Vasquez for sharing your book with me!
A free book from Kindle marketed as a paranormal thriller. This starts as science fiction novel with Harry's father Aaron, a physicist who is on the brink of achieving time travel and then dies. Is it simple stroke or something more sinister?
Not a fan of paranormal but was intrigued by the synopsis. However, the writing was staccato and given the final twist, has many plot holes. And not a fan of the paranormal plot which seemed to appear out of nowhere. Plus I am not in agreement with the theology which drives the paranormal portion. Won't be continuing this series.
The more I think about this book, the lower I want to rate it. So for now I'm knocking it down to 1.5* only because the characters were intriguing up to a point but needed more development.
Doubt: Among Us Trilogy Book 1 is a story I really wish more people knew about because it's really, really awesome! If you like City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor, the tv show Fringe and/or Supernatural, you just might want to read this book by Anne-Rae Vasquez. In case anyone is interested in reading a ARC ecopy, you can do so right here.
Both Harry and Cristal have just earned their PhD's at the young age of 21. They have always been geeks and have found friends in other social outcasts through online virtual reality gaming. As newly minted adults they are having difficulty adjusting to life in the "real" world. Through Harry's popular online game, he's drawn in friends/gamers into his personal mission to find his missing mother and, potentially, their own missing family members. During Harry's missions, Cristal and a group of Truth Seekers come across information that changes everything and even makes them doubt the reality of their lives.
I was absolutely hooked on Doubt from page one! This exciting character-driven tale has just the right amount of action, suspense, mystery, fantasy and sci-fi elements, and surprising twists to to keep my eyes glued to the screen (I read an ecopy through ePubBud) and breathlessly awaiting the next chapter.
I love the characters and where the author takes them over the course of the story. In a story like this the characters have to be relatively likeable and relatable or the story falls apart, but I can say the Vasquez pulled that off reasonably well. Of course, the reader has to suspend their disbelief over the course of events (really trying to avoid spoilers), but for the most part what happens feels like there is the possibility that it could actually happen because it's so well grounded with it's characters. That being said I'm only really knocking the story half of a star because the book has a pretty good sized cast and it took awhile to keep track of everyone.
Otherwise, though, Doubt is absolutely fantastic and I highly, highly recommend it! I was not ready for it to end and I am now eagerly awaiting Book 2!
This is a very well written book, directed to the young adult audience, but that any reader that is looking for spending some hours entertained will enjoy very much this reading. The plot is simple to follow. Harry and Cristal just earned their PhD’s and went to work together for a company named GN (Global Nation). Harry is a young and brilliant programmer, son of a famous quantum physicist (Aaron) that died during an after-work dinner party. His father had some strong theories on how time travel was doable. His partner in business (Dr. Saeed) was also a famous experimental scientist. His mother (Bina) disappeared while volunteering on a peacekeeping mission in Palestine. Harry developed a game named Truth Seekers and he started hiring to work for him all the best programmers and game players he could find. They all had a mission to find out what was behind the scenes on certain mysterious events. And with the development of the story we learn that some members of this team have some special abilities that are not completely natural. Cristal is capable of produce earthquakes, although she is afraid of her powers and is not sure how they work or how she can control them. During a moment she was upset, she caused a major earthquake that was sensed in many different cities in the world. Kerim, her boyfriend, is capable of reading her mind. And things are not what they look like. They find some portals that could be entrances for wormholes for time travelling and they go to Israel to research one of those portals. But not everybody in Harry’s team knows what is going on and which his motivations to create his missions are. He wants to look for his father and mother. Mystery and intrigue cause turbulence on the relationship among the members of Harry’s team. And during a persecution from the Israeli Secret Service to capture Kerim, some details about his nature are revealed. This is a very good start to a trilogy that promises to be very exciting.
This book was written by Anne-Rae Vasquez and I received a copy for reviewing from Inkspand and I was not requested to write a positive review. Opinion expressed here is my own.
Never show anyone your weaknesses, especially your closet allies.
Harry’s father was a quantum physicist, working on the feasibility of time travel, before his sudden death. When Harry’s mother was reported missing after working for Global Nation in Tel Aviv as a peacekeeper, he was determined to find her. Global Nation is a worldwide non-profit organization involved in peace, education, and social activism. Harry has data proving that Global Nation conducted experiments on innocent people, and he knew they kidnapped his mother, he just didn’t know why. Needing his expertise to set up a security firewall, Global Network hires Harry and he puts together a team of online gamers with unique skills to help him infiltrate the organization.
This is an exciting adventure story, with a cast of characters that will surprise and delight you. At times, some of the technical descriptions are challenging to understand, but not so much as to keep you from following the story. There are thrilling twists and turns that will keep you guessing and waiting for more. A sneak peak excerpt from “Resist,” Book 2 of the Among Us Trilogy is included. This is a welcome bonus, as I wasn’t ready for the story to end.
I didn't know quite what to expect when I recieved my ARC of Doubt (Among us #1) but I've got to say that I loved every mystery filled page. Who are the Truth Seekers? and why do their loved ones keep going missing? Friendship and betrayal, and forces of good and evil hold the answers. I look forward to reading book 2 when it comes out.
Eclectic urban fantasy with a Spinechilling supernatural undercurrent, founded on pure inspiration
“Dear Truth Seeker, I believe in capturing history and this is my attempt to leave our story for the future generation of Truth Seekers like you. I have asked all my Truth Seekers to keep a journal. I encourage each one to write their thoughts, events, and ideas so as to preserve the story as close to the real events, thoughts, and feelings as possible. I want history to remember us not just from my words but also from the words of my closest and dearest friends—even friends who have ended being my worst enemies. Your mission is to share these events with other Truth Seekers. Keep the faith that “Good” will prevail. We must stay united in mind and in actions. We must maintain our perseverance to save humanity and the world. Harry Doubt Truth Seekers Unite!”
Anyone seeking a phenomenal paranormal YA novel that’s wonderfully fresh, innovative and devoid of any clichés or predictability will love DOUBT. This book appealed to me greatly as not only an avid reader of YA fantasy (sub genres), but also the exciting and original premise stood-out at me. Character-driven and action-packed this scintillating story keeps you thoroughly entertained, as the type of story that engulfs you completely! Contemporary, modern and current themes such as online gaming and high school blended together gave the story an edgy twist that teens will love. Easily identifiable characters such as Harry and Cristal were brilliantly realized on the page, so that readers can empathize with them. The interesting way in which the author approaches Angels and Demons I found utterly fascinating and entirely *new* and so I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this to readers both young and old alike.
DOUBT is the sparkling start of something big to come…and I predict this becoming a truly terrific trilogy. Anne-Rae Vasquez writing style is highly readable and packed of creative vision and outstanding concepts that literally let the imagination soar! The captivating, colorful characters and compelling narrative pulls you into a gritty tale woven with many unexpected twists & turns. I was so astonished by the substantial storyline and deep complexities, which left me wanting to continue the journey with anticipation.
I would like to thank the author for providing me with an e-copy of DOUBT: Book1: Truth Seekers- among us trilogy, for review purposes. The above expressed views and opinions on this novel are entirely my own and impartial.
Doubt is the first book in the ‘Truth Seekers Among us’ trilogy and I received a free ecopy from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
It was interesting to read a story about people that are passionate about virtual games, and to see how these games become ingrained as a part of their ‘real’ life. Harry is the creator of the ‘Truth Seekers’ game and he only sends out invites to the top gamers, amongst those with the required skills that he is looking for, e.g. having someone they love, suddenly disappear.
I found the story quite confusing because I wasn’t sure who was in on Harry’s secret mission. In fact, at one point I wasn’t quite sure if even Harry knew what the plan was because it turns out that he’s not the only one with secrets. Many of the ‘game players’ have their own agenda and trusting is harder than it seems.
Harry may be a genius but sometimes he lacks common sense. I pitied him because although he seems to be in love with Cristal, he doesn’t quite understand what that means and doesn’t realise that experimenting on her and using her isn’t the best way to gain her affection.
Karim, on the other hand, is a natural charmer and there is no wonder that Cristal falls for him. Good looks, the bad boy persona, charismatic temperament, ability to speak naturally in a foreign language and rides a motorcycle = perfect (or near enough). I did think he was a tad bit too good to be true, but then I wanted to believe he loved Cristal too. I didn’t quite understand the ending, and I don’t want to reveal any spoilers but I think the next book in the series will help to understand what happened.
Overall, it was a good enough and easy read, but I’m not fanatical about the sotry line and what happens next.
Favourite Quotes:
Cristal couldn’t believe her ears. Harry had a 200 IQ but the social skills of an ass.
“Cristal, do you believe in kismet? A pre-destined moment, when fate steers your life? In a direction you never meant to go. Where reality takes a back seat to what only your heart appears to know?”
I picked up this book because I read the word "programmer" in the blurb. Being a computer science major myself and a "geek" myself I love to read sci-fi fantasy books where the main character is a geek, a nerd, or a computer science person. I might just "geek out" a little when reading references to computers and programmers or "geek" pop culture.
All of this being said my geek side was slightly disappointed with the programming and the description of the game. There wasn't really anything. I think the "Truth Seekers" game was a fantasy virtual reality game... but I'm not really sure. Most of the story was more focused on what was going on in the real world of the book. And, once I got past my minor disappointment that the book didn't really expand on the virtual world, I found myself really enjoying the story. The plot was interesting and kept me guessing.
The twists in the book were amazing. I was completely caught off guard by the first one, and later ones still managed to surprise me. I found myself really enjoying this book.
I did have trouble figuring out exactly who was the main character at the beginning. That is why I rated this book as only four stars. Once I figured out who the main character was I enjoyed reading her perspective.
And the "geek" in me was satisfied every time a computer was messed with and by the very occupation of the main characters. The main characters are computer programmers after all, and I can't help but love main characters that are programmers.
This is very much a blend of sci-fi fantasy. It is not for any hardcore science fiction readers as it is much closer to being fantasy set in the modern day world.
I enjoyed the book and recommend it for anyone that likes an modern books with a flair for the paranormal.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and AR Publishing in return for an honest review.
I loved reading this. This book has everything: it’s science-fiction, it’s dystopian, it’s horror, it’s post-apocalyptic and it has supernatural elements. Seriously, what doesn’t this book have? The ideas in this novel are terrifying, yet amazingly vivid in a brutal and beautiful way, If you think you know all about this novel because you’ve seen Lost or Fringe, you’re wrong. The world Anne-Rae Vasquez creates is spell binding. It’s impossible to summarise such a complex plot in a few sentences, but essentially: Doubt is the story of a band of 'Truth Seekers' which leads them and you into an adventure through an on-line game. Their individual missions over time involve the discovery of horrifying situations that cause them to doubt reality and truth. I don't want to reveal any plot spoilers here, so I'll just say that the characters are enigmatic, sexy and complicated. Doubt also explores issues with religion, science, technology, and the concept of truth. It satirises many modern flaws, including the arms race. It shows us how all it takes is a crazy idea by one influential person to affect life in a negative way, but best of all it gives us hope and underlines the beauty and courage of it's characters. The twist and turns of the plot are fast paced and scary, and the presence of the supernatural is hair raising. Doubt delivers a story which is compelling drama as well as being a mystery that keeps you turning page after page. The novel successfully addresses a horribly bleak theme of mankind’s’ endless self-destruction with humour and a light touch. Peppered with a sharp discerning wit, I loved the humour too.
Rate: 4.5 stars This is the first book of the Among Us Trilogy series by Anne-Rae Vasquez. It revolves around the lives of unique individuals that are banded together to discover the truth behind their missing loved ones; little do they know they will discover much more than what they anticipated. Harry Doubt created an online game known as Truth Seeker, as a way to gather these people, particularly those with exceptional abilities and skills. Their quest for truth will lead them in the midst of “the end of the world” and it is up to them how they are going to stop it or if they have what it takes to impede these catastrophic events.
What I like with this book is the fast-paced action and suspense in every page, which keeps me on edge and glued to my seat at the same time. Being a supernatural / paranormal fan, I loved how detailed the author depicts every scene, making it so realistic and plausible, to the point wherein we question ourselves about the reality of the world we’re living in. The story was complex enough to keep you guessing without being exaggerated. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5-star is that some of the characters are not transitioned into the story properly, making it difficult to remember who’s who and their relevance in the story, which I hope to be cleared out in the next part of the series. Overall, this is definitely a good read and I honestly can’t wait for the next book in this trilogy.
I highly recommend this to everyone who loves science fiction and dystopian genre with an added supernatural twist.
Doubt is one of those books that surprised me. I was expecting a sci-fi and it ended up being so much more. The author says it is in the lines of TV shows like Fringe and Lost and I'd have to say she's right on the ball with that. So when I say surprised, I mean that in a positive way.
The book was a little slow to start. Anne-Rae Vasquez weaves backstory in and at times I just wanted to get to the meat of the story but I never felt like I wanted to put it down. On the contrary, I felt like I needed to read it more because of that.
Once the action starts it really stars and more and more questions are brought up until the finale when some are answered. But, there are definitely a lot of questions still up in the air and I can't wait to see how they'll be answered in the sequel.
Now, as for characters... there is a fairly large cast but two main characters.I really liked Cristal. She is a firecracker and won't take crap from anyone but at the same time she's a little lost and vulnerable. Harry is... well I couldn't figure him out and I think that was a good thing. He wasn't cut and dry good guy.
All-in-all I loved the book and I am very much looking forward to book 2.
I absolutely loved the book. It is a splendidly written book for YA. It has an easy flow. To be honest, I am not the kinds who would be interested in online gaming and stuff, but the cover and the storyline got me thrilled. Mind you, the book is not about games and gizmos alone, but leaves you with spine chilling paranormal experiences, sci-fi mystery, and thriller. Once you start reading it, it is hard to put it down!
Anne Rae has certainly done an exceptional job by creating mystery in every single chapter. It has these unexpected twists and turns and you just do not feel bored. She has played really well with a novel plot and her characters are simply amazing. They are well-developed, dynamic in their own quirky way, and thus make a one of a kind group. In fact, one of the actual reasons that got me glued is because Anne has an in-depth description of every scene, and makes each of them so very convincing and plausible. She without a doubt has an exceptional imagination to write such an intriguingly creative book. It is a good book and the series are something I look forward to reading!
I must add if a little bit of science and romance along with thrill, suspense, and action is what you are looking for, then this is THE BOOK!
‘Doubt’ refers to Harry Doubt, a young activist, intellectual, and creator of an online game that has been sold to Google to fund the Truth Seekers, a team of crack gamers with skills far beyond simple gaming. Think of a younger Fantastic Four with supernatural skills thrown in and you’re getting close. Harry is also a young man with a family secret he is driven to solve.
Cristal, the resourceful and preternaturally gifted protagonist of Doubt, can’t help but be drawn into Harry’s search for his mother—and more.
Visions into another world emerge as we are taken on a global mission to look for Harry’s mother and Cristal helps unravel the mystery. Harry’s parents died long ago—didn’t they? There’s also a budding romance between Cristal and another member of the Truth Seekers but she might do well to remember what others have said: "Never trust anyone. Especially your closest allies."
The multicultural aspects and cast of quirky characters give Doubt an edge over your standard YA fare in this imaginative debut. Readers of Hunger Games and the like will find plenty to like in Doubt.
Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Doubt. It is extremely well written. The characters are fully developed and highly unique. The plot is intriguing and moves at a brisk pace. In other words, it possesses all of the critical elements that make a great read.
This novel also has something more, however. Nearly every page adds another layer to the engaging mystery. The author, Anne-Rae Vasquez, keeps you guessing about both the plot and the true motivations of each of the main characters until the end...and beyond.
It is hard to classify this novel because it seamlessly blends elements of many genres. This adds to the intrigue because you literally don't know who or what is coming around the next corner. I won't say much more because I don't want to spoil the fun.
I highly recommend this book, and look forward to the sequel.
This is great for kids about 14 years old. I really liked that it had a lot of different elements for kids to like. For instance there was time travel, video games, family and science fiction. What I really want to point out is that there are so many kids that are gamers in today's society. Kids are so technologically savvy that they hardly read. However when there is a book about video games where kids are saving the world, and their families, I think that this book will gladly be read. I wish that the ending was more definite, however I can understand why it is in parts for kids. I also want to mention that this book will also attract kids artistic sides. I think that a lot of readers will be drawing there own avatars. I know I want to draw mine. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review from OrangeBerry Book Tours, however all opinions are my own.
Gaming is such a popular thing that young adults are into right now, I found it quite brilliant to fit into the intense plot of this book. I really enjoyed "Doubt (Among Us, #1)" for the simple fact that the story was so packed with plot twists and action. I enjoyed the time travel aspect and the battle between good and evil. The main characters, Harry and Cristal were well developed. The other gamers in the story had individual personalities and traits as well. The dialog was well written and the settings were well described. I felt as if I were a part of the story. I highly recommend this awesome fantasy thriller!
I peeked at some other reviews to get a sense of how to review this without giving away spoilers! :) Don't want to say too much about the story except that it was full of unexpected turns, crossing genres and that it kept my interest throughout and left me ready, at the end, to start the second book in the series. But, oh no, Book #2 isn't out yet!! :) I loved the diversity of the characters and the mystery that begins pretty much on page one. And did I mention, it's funny! Anne-Rae is a very funny writer. So glad to have crossed paths with Doubt (Among Us, #1). Kismet! One last note, Zero Doubt is a great name!!
This book is well worth your time and I'm not surprised this is on the bestseller lists. Doubt is the first book in the series and it's a fantastic start that dumps you into a stark, compelling world of the end times.
Doubt introduces you to some great characters that continue on in the second book, Resist. Sometimes, the first book in the series can be rather boring because the author has to introduce you to the characters and help you understand the world they have created. I didn't feel that at all in this book. If you love apocalyptic thrillers you will love this series.
'Doubt' tells the story of a group of gamers, brought together by Harry Doubt at Global Nation, working to uncover a great mystery but none of them really have any idea how great until an unexpected, intense finale. The pace is pretty relentless; the chapters short and snappy. ARV produces some punchy dialogue and a few mind-bending twists.
Would recommend this to dystopia fans everywhere or anyone who just loves a good conspiracy.
I thought this book was a great read. I picked it, with a 'what the hell' attitude, wanting something fun and different than what I usually read. It was very interesting learning about the gaming aspect of the book. You don't necessarily have to like gaming to enjoy this book. It is good read for just about anyone. It combines gaming, romance, science fiction, and a mystery all in one. I will definitely be reading the next book. A lot of fun.
Doubt is a well-written fast pace novel that you won’t want to put down. I started reading Doubt on a whim, and quickly found myself hooked. It had all the elements of a great story surprises and depth. The characters Harry and Crista were well developed, complicated and dynamic. The plot was full of twists and turns. It was a quick read highly and I would recommend it to anyone. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
If "End of times / Armageddon" themes intrigue you; if you are a fan of shows like "Medium" and "Fringe"; "Doubt" will intrigue you. It mashes fringe science, corporate espionage and paranormal encounters to catapult the reader into an out-of-this-world experience. I am not a fan of paranormal fiction but I was mesmerized by this book and am waiting to see what the next book holds. It is a clean read that is so entertaining anyone could enjoy it.
Anne-Rae Vasquez has created a lovable character in Harry Doubt, who leads his Truth Seekers on an amazing quest that ends up taking the reader on a journey on the edge of science and the supernatural. It is well written and engaging, with great development of characters you can really care about. I'm glad I had the chance to enjoy this wonderful book and I hope you do too.
Although the story is well-written and the plot develops well, I found it hard to relate to the characters or get involved in the story. I'm sure it is because I'm not a YA. It's not the type of book I enjoy reading, but I wanted to give it a try. On the other hand, I can appreciate that YA readers who enjoy fantasy fiction would enjoy it.
I received this book from the Truth Seekers community in exchange for an honest review.
The story focuses on Harrell (I really like his name) "Harry Doubt," his friends in an online game he created -- the Truth Seekers, and their offline secret missions to uncover the truth about the sudden disappearances of some people, including his mother.
I really enjoyed the first two parts of this book. Vasquez is really good with writing thrilling scenes. I often found myself eager to turn the next page to uncover the mysteries Harry, Cristal, and the others were trying to solve. I have always been amazed and fascinated by computer science, computer geeks, and geniuses. This is one of the reasons why I love Birchoff from Nikita, because he is a computer geek. I really liked Harry; he is loyal and just simply adorable and innocent.
The earlier parts were very interesting and it got me so hooked. When some questions were answered, I admit, though, that I was disappointed. I was so sure I was going to give a 4.5 rating for this but because of the last few parts, well, let's just say I hadn't totally enjoyed it as much as I did the earlier parts.
I appreciated each character's background story. It made me understand and connect with all of them, especially Harry and Cristal *cue floating hearts*. I found the flow of the story to be not as smooth as I expected it to be. It felt like things just became jumbled pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. It was like, a pile of unsolved problems just continued to increase and then in one *whoosh* moment, an answer (or ahem a person ahem) was provided. To connect and explain all of it. It's as if all of these scattered ideas were pushed into the story in one go without coherence.
Because it started off as a sci-fi, I really didn't enjoy the last few parts. I felt dismayed with the ending; I felt like Vasquez rushed into it. But I am looking forward to the sequel because many questions still remain unanswered and I am still totally intrigued. Because it was not a total let down and for its captivating earlier parts, I am giving this a 3.5 star.
Do not be fooled by all of my negative remarks. I really enjoyed the book despite the last parts and the ending. I just find it easier to criticize the mistakes than actually praise it. (Sorry, Madam Vasquez. :D)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is a great YA novel. Anne has written more than an exciting book, she’s written a story that teaches reading skills. After I finished it, I gave it to my nine year old granddaughter who read two chapters in twenty minutes. The great part was how much of the story she was able to retain and talk about. For me, that is worth five stars any day of the week. What’s cool is the story. Harry Doub, changed his name to Doubt, has been hired by GN to find out how the servers have been breached. In order to find out, he assembles a team of gamers he’s come to know from the game he created: Truth Seekers—an extremely bright group of teenagers. In order to identify were the breach occurred; Harry starts globe-trotting for the answers. Unlike most espionage thrillers that get bogged down and difficult to follow when written for adults, this author has figured a way out to tell the story without all the, sometimes, overburdensome back ground us adults seem to crave for. That is brilliance. The kids are not only learning how to read and enjoy it, they are going to take a trip around the world and be introduced to time travel. Now that’s a book worth reading! Five Stars plus!
The first book of the Among Us trilogy set the bar very high. It contained dynamic characters and a compelling storyline that was not only unique and original, but crafted to perfection. The author allowed her characters to develop in ways that allowed the reader to get the full picture about their motives, their thoughts, and what decisions would be made. It's definitely full of adventure, there's plenty of witty dialogue, and you will be thinking about it for weeks later. Doubt introduced me to an unknown world, to say the least.
I appreciate this body of work by Anne-Rae Vasquez in that it was well-written and flowed naturally. In fact, I think it's safe to say that in the young adult, dystopian, science-fiction genre, Doubt stands out and leaves readers eager to jump into the rest of the trilogy.
DOUBT was an amazingly fast read after the first two chapters. I wasn't really sure at first how much I was going to like it because the characters felt a bit wooden in the beginning, and the narrative a little choppy. However, all of that smoothed out directly and the story picked up speed.
If you like end of the world type fiction (which I do), you will most definitely like DOUBT. 4 stars!!!
My honest review was given in exchange for a free e-copy of this book.
