Mustansar Hussain Tarar (Urdu: مستنصر حسين تارڑ) is a Pakistani author, actor, the first Morning Show presenter and a pioneer trekker - in his own words: a vagabond.

Having made a name for himself by taking the mantle in Pakistan's mountaineering community, Mustansar Hussain is widely recognized as one of the most well known personalities in Pakistan. Though the origin of his fame is usually considered to be his established and decorated career as a writer, Tarar can also be recognized as the foremost endorser for tourism projects in Northern Areas of Pakistan, having exorbitantly increased the array of tourist exposure to the areas by becoming both a mountaineer and an adventure author who uses these locations as backdrops for his storylines.

Mustansar Hussain's literary proficiency as an author often overshadows the fact that he has been an active mountaineer for a very extensive period of time. Having embarked upon several painstaking and challenging tasks such as the ascension of K-2 and the surpassing of the treacherous "Chitti Buoi" Glacier among others. More significantly, both of Mustansar Hussain's professions often intertwine and relate, since he uses his experiences on his expeditions as travelogues. Though some of his publications have met lukewarm reactions due to supposed exaggeration, he reflects on this predicament with the notion that "words or even pictures cannot successfully express the beauty and splendour of nature in it's true spirit."

Tarar's first book Nikley Teri Talash Main, a travelogue of Europe, was published in 1971. He has so far over forty titles to his credit which include many genres of literature; travelogues, novels, short stories and collection of his newspaper columns and television dramas. He has been one of the best-seller fiction writer of Pakistan.

Mustansar was born in 'Jokalian' a small town in Punjab, Pakistan in March 1939. He spent his early childhood in the village and moved to culturally rich Lahore, witnessed the independence of Pakistan in 1947 and the events that took place at Lahore. His father Rehmat Khan Tarar opened a small seed store there. Mr Tarar got his schooling from Rang Mehal Mission High School and Muslim Model High School, Lahore. He then got admission in Government College Lahore , a college that owns the credit to polish several intellectuals of Pakistan. In 1950's, he went to London for higher studies. In 1957 he attended the World Youth Festival in Moscow and wrote a book named 'Fakhta' (Dove) on that experience. In 1971 his first travelogue Nikley Teri Talaash Main was published. It led to new trend in Urdu literature. He also became a television actor and from 1988 was for many years a host of PTV's live morning transmission Subuh Bakhair (Good Morning). His unconventional and down to earth style of comparing earned him great popularity. He called himself the 'Cha Cha Jee' of all Pakistani children and soon became known by this title.

kahin un buland paharon mein...

zyada tar jab insan safar karta he to sirf manzil matloob hoti he. lekin is kitab ne mujhey ye sekhaya k asal safar to rastoon ka, mushkilaat aur un me doston k sath ka, barfon ka kabi medaanon ka, zindagi ka aur kabi maut ka nam he. ye safar nama shaid kabhi na bholay ga. bohat khobsurat.

عرصے بعد پڑھے جانے والا یہ پہلا سفرنامہ تھا ۔ اس سے قبل سفرنامہ کب پڑھا اور کس کا پڑھا ، ٹھیک سے یاد نہیں ۔۔۔ شاید ابنِ انشاء کا 'چلتے ہو تو چین کو چلیے' یا شاید ایک مصنفہ کا سفرنامہ جس کا نام فی الوقت یاداشت میں نہیں ۔۔۔ بہرحال، اس سفرنامے میں 'ہونو لولو' کے ایرپورٹ کا تذکرہ تھا ۔ یہ ان سفرنامہ ان دونوں سفرناموں سے اس لیے مخلتف تھا کہ اس میں پہاڑوں کا ذکر تھا اور بے پناہ تھا اور جہاں مستنصر صاحب کی معیت میں چند مہم جو ایک ان دیکھی جھیل کو 'دریافت' کرنے نکل کھڑے ہوتے ہیں ۔ شروع شروع میں مجھ جیسے انسان کے لیے جو رات اپنے گھر کے اپنے بستر میں ہی بسر کرنے اور اپنے اہلِ خانہ کے ساتھ ایک خوشگوار ماحول میں کیے جانے والے ناشتے سے صبح کا آغاز کرنے کا خواہاں ہو اسے محض مہم جوئی کی خاطر برف پوش یا بیانباں پہاڑوں پر جان جوکھوں میں ڈالنے اور ہر رات ایک اجنبی جگہ پر گزارنے کا خیال کچھ نامقعول سا لگا ۔ لیکن پڑھنا تو تھا اس کتاب کو ، سو پڑھنا جاری رکھا ۔ اور باوجود نامقعولیت کے اس خیال کے ، ورگوتھ کے جنگلوں میں پائے جانے والے ان پرندوں کو جن کی دمیں سیاحوں کی ناکوں کو چھو کر گزرتی ہیں کو وہاں موجود ایڈوینچررز کی نگاہوں سے دیکھنے کی آرزؤ کی اور نہ دیکھ سکنے پر کسی حد تک مایوسی کا احساس بھی جاگا ۔۔۔ پھر اس رات جب ایک گائیڈ کی بےسروپاء سی ضد کے باعث ایڈوینچررز کو گھوڑوں کی لد سے 'مہکتی' فضا میں رات بسر کرنا پڑی تو چشمِ تصور میں اپنے آپ کو ایسی کسی صورتحال میں گھرا دیکھ کر جی بھر کر ہنسی آئی ۔۔۔ اور وہ دن جب راقم کتاب گھوڑے پر اور ان کے ساتھی پیدل ہی ایک ایسے سبزہ ذار کے مسافر بنتے ہیں جہاں گھاس میں چھوٹے چھوٹے سفید اور نیلے یا شاید جامنی پھول ہی پھول ہیں ۔۔۔ ایسا محسوس ہوا گویا ہم بھی ان کے ساتھ اس خوبصورت منظر میں محوِ سفر ہیں ۔۔۔ اور وہ شام جب بالآخر جھیل کرومبر کے کنارے مہم جو لشکر لنگر انداز ہوتا ہے لیکن مصنف اس نظارے سے مطمئن نہیں تو دل کچھ اداس سا ہوتا ہے کہ کیا واقعی ان ایڈوینچررز کی محنت رائیگاں چلی گئی ۔ لیکن جب اگلے ہی دن کاتبِ سفر ان دیکھی ، ان چھوئی جھیل کو ایک نئے ذاوئیے سے دیکھ کر شاد ہو جاتا ہے تو لگتا ہے کہ تمام محنت کا خراج وصول ہو گیا ۔
جہاں جہاں راستے میں ایسے مقامات آئے کہ جہاں لگتا تھا کہ ابھی کوئی گرا کہ گرا وہاں وہاں دل ایک انجانے خوف کی گرفت میں آیا اور جیسے ہی سب بخیریت و عافیت اس مقام کو سر کر آئے ، ہم نے بھی سکھ کا سانس لیا ۔
اور آخر میں ایڈوینچررز کی یاکس پر سواری اور ان کے ساتھ تصاویر کی خواہش ۔۔۔ یاکس کی عدم دستیابی پر ہمیں بھی یوں محسوس ہوا کہ ہمارا سفر بھی تشنہ ہی رہ جانے والا ہے ۔ سو شدید خواہش کی کہ کوئی یاک مل ہی جائے تاکہ یادگار رہ سکے لیکن اس یادگار کو نہ رہنا تھا سو نہ ہو کے رہی ۔ اور ہم نے ایک نئے جذبے سے 'اندلس' کی سیر کرنے کو اپنا رخت سفر باندھ لیا ۔۔۔

i have finished this delightful travelogue today, i a am short of words to describe the splendour of this book. Beautifully depicted by MHT, here he raised the standards of writing a travelogue and culminated this into a literary master piece. No exaggeration i have seen Karomber lake , swinj, Mitrandas, Abshar and wargoth, through MHT, felt the fragrance of the Rashad ghas and the cold of Darkot while reading it. This read will give u another life."YAK SARAI KA DARWAZA BAND HOTA HAY"

ہر بار تارڑ صاحب کا سفرنامہ ختم کرنے کے بعد مجھ پر ایک جیسی اداسی کی کیفیت طاری ہو جاتی ہے۔ یوں محسوس ہوتا ہے کہ جیسے ہر سفر میں میں بھی انکی ہمرکاب رہی ہوں۔ یہ مجموعی طور پر انکا سولہواں سفرنامہ ہے جو میں نے پڑھا ہے۔ پہلے پہل میرا رحجان انکے ان سفرناموں کی طرف زیادہ تھا جن میں انکے بین الاقوامی اسفار کی یاداشتیں درج ہیں جیسے "خانہ بدوش" اور "نکلے تری تلاش میں". پھر دھیرے دھیرے شمال کے سفرنامے میری دلچسپی کا مرکز بنتے گیے۔ "یاک سرائے" بھی اسی سلسلے کی ایک کڑی ہے۔

تارڑ صاحب کے شمال کے سفرناموں میں بھی انکے شائقین کو دو قسم کے ذائقے ملتے ہیں۔ ایک وہ سفرنامے جن میں انکے اہل خانہ(سب یا کوئی ایک) انکے سفری رفیق ہوتے ہیں جیسے "چترال داستان" اور "ہنزہ داستان" وغیرہ۔ دوم وہ جس میں انکے دوستوں کا ایک جتھہ انکے ہمرکاب ہوتا ہے،جن میں میاں فرزند علی سرفہرست ہیں۔ یاک سرائے انہی میں سے ایک ہے۔ یہ دراصل جھیل کرومبر کی جانب ٹریکنگ کی شکل میں سفر کی داستان ہے۔ تارڑ صاحب مایہ ناز کوہ پیما ،نذیر صابر کی میز پر دھری ایک تصویر کے سحر میں مبتلا ہو کر ،اپنے پانچ چھ دوستوں کے ہمراہ براستہ اشکومن،ورگوتھ گلیشیر، چیلنجی، سوختر آباد سے ہوتے ہوئے، چٹی بوئی گلیشیر عبور کر کے، پامیر اور پھر کرومبر پہنچتے ہیں۔

کرومبر پہنچ کر گویا قاری بھی اپنے آپ کو جھیل کے پانیوں کی نیلاہٹ کے سحر میں گم پاتا ہے۔ ایک خاص قسم کا بولتا ہوا سناٹا ،جس کی گونج قاری کو اپنے آس پاس محسوس ہوتی ہیں،اور اس میں سراسر کمال تارڑ صاحب کی منظر کشی اور انداز بیاں کا ہے۔

یہاں میں ایک بات کا ذکر ضرور کرنا چاہوں گی،اور وہ ہے کسی کوہ نورد کا پورٹرز کے ساتھ عارضی مگر مضبوط اور دلچسپ تعلق ۔ اس سے پہلے میں شمشال بے مثال میں ہائی پورٹر "رجب" سے بہت متاثر ہوئی تھی، اور اب "یاک سرائے" میں پورٹر احد کے کردار نے مجھے خطہ شمال کے مقامی لوگوں کا گرویدہ بن دیا ہے۔

مجموعی طور پر بہت عمدہ سفرنامہ ہے اور اسے سمجھنے اور لطف اٹھانے کے لیے تخیل کا وسیع ہونا ضروری ہے۔ 448 صفحات پر مشتمل یہ سفرنامہ کہیں کہیں آپ کو بور کرتا ہے مگر پھر کوئی نہ کوئی ایسا منظر آ ہی جاتا ہے کہ آپ اپنی بوریت پر قابو پا لیتے ہیں اور ایک از سرنو عود آنے والے دلچسپی سے اسے پڑھنے لگتے ہیں۔
