Tima Maria Lacoba is a former ancient historian and archaeologist who accidently smashed a 3,000 Egyptian vase while on her first dig! Her supervisor made her glue it back together again. It took a week. From there she went on to specialise in late Roman-British archaeology, and the military forts along Hadrian’s Wall, because buildings don’t smash as easily. Now she’s combined her love of history with another passion—story-telling—to create a dark tale of Roman soldiers cursed by a British witch.

Tima always been a storyteller, but it wasn't until five years ago that she seriously ventured into writing. The result was Bloodgifted. In 2011 it was shortlisted in the Atlas Award and eventually came fourth place. In 2012 it was listed among the top ten in the Choclit Search for an Aussie Star Competition. In 2013, she was offered a publishing contract but declined in favour of going indie, preferring the idea of being in charge of her own creation.
In 2017, her book, BloodGifted, was shortlisted for the Golden Stake Award at the International Vampire Film and Arts Festival.

Bloodgifted is just the start of a four-part series I've entitled, The Dantonville Legacy. Book 2, Bloodpledge, was released four months ago, and Book 3, Blood Vault, is due for release June 2015. She also intends to satisfy her fans requests by writing individual books on the other characters in the series. So Terens, Cal Jake and Sam will each have their own story.

Tima currently lives on the Central Coast, an hour's drive north of Sydney in Australia. Her little house is surrounded by bushland, possums and seed-dropping Rosellas on one side, and waterways on the other.
Between bouts of writing, she can be found in the kitchen baking yet another chocolate recipe. This activity is responsible for forming more gothic, urban fantasy stories in her mind for future books

I found the FMC pretty naïve. This book is about a brief holiday romance. I had read the first book in the series previously, so I knew a fair bit about what I was getting into when I read this one. Therefore, I didn't enjoy it as much.

After reading Bloodgifted yesterday, I thought it would be fitting to find out who Phillipe was even though, I should have read Laura's Locket first.

Laura and her two best friends went on holiday in Italy where she came across Philippe. They liked each other and met a couple of times. Philippe was very attentive but strangely only met her late at night. Laura was totally besotted and when Philippe gave her a Locket, she eliminated any doubts she had but he didn't turn up for their rendez vous the next night.

The clasp on the Locket broke a month later and Laura kept it on her dresser as a reminder that she wouldn't fall for anyone else so easily. A typical holiday romance, one would say but all is revealed in Bloodgifted. Well worth reading.

What a sweet wonderful read! I must have more! Laura's Locket is a prequel to Bloodgifted. It takes you back to Laura's younger years in a sweat romance that she began to get a taste of. It gives you a sense of a wonderful young romance that is forbidden.

This romance is in Italy and Laura stumbles upon a Frenchman and is instantly smitten from the start. There is so much detail that it allows you to feel as though that you are their at that moment with them and experiencing the samething. You are on the edge of the seat at the same time.

The authors discriptions of detail was impeccable showing such deaths in her writing style allowing you to see a piece of her story in her perspective. I'll definately be reading the entire series!

I loved the writing in this short novella. This is the first book of Ms. Lacoba that I’ve read. I will definitely be picking up the rest of The Dantonville Legacy.

The book begins with Laura and her friends taking a trip together to Italy. Laura finds herself lying to her friends and sneaking away to meet a gorgeous man who finds her in a city full of people after a chance meeting on the street.

The story flew by. Can’t wait to continue reading about Laura and Philippe’s story.

Nicely done Ms. Lacoba.

“What I Did on my Summer Vacation”

This is one essay Laura Anne Dantonville is probably glad she didn’t have to write. How to explain why she would run off with a complete stranger in a foreign country, having told no one that she was going–well, even she probably wouldn’t believe it.

But I get ahead of myself.

Laura, Beth, and Angie are taking an end-of-high-school trip together through Italy. Their first stop is Sorrento, where they take in the sights and sounds with squealy-girl joy. All their hard work has paid off, and here they are on their very first overseas adventure together!

Unbeknownst to them, they themselves are also being taken in with great enthusiasm. Soon enough, they find themselves harassed by a group of young men, with no way to get away from them. Then, suddenly, the natives scatter, leaving Laura and her friends face-to-face with an intriguing older man.

This is where it gets tricky. This man, a Frenchman by the name of Phillippe, is drawn to Laura. It seems he knows the girls’ every move, which creeps out Laura’s friends. But he has a different effect on Laura, who seems compelled to agree with every one of his plans. Everything she has ever learned about strangers and danger go right out the window.

But after a scare, she resolves to forget him and move on, much to the relief of her worrying friends and family.

Thing is, will he do the same? Only time will tell.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This short story, a prelude to “Bloodgifted”, Book I in the Dantonville Legacy Series, is a great introduction. It could also be read as a stand-alone, since it has a satisfying ending on its own.
However, clever Ms. Lacoba has added the Prologue and first three chapters of the first book in the series to the end of this short story, making it well worth the purchase price. I have definitely gotten drawn into the life of Laura and the drama that will be unfolding around her in her later years.
But back to this story of Laura and her locket–a bauble given to her by Phillippe before they part. You can bet that that will play a bigger part later on.
The descriptions were well-written–I could almost feel the Italian sunshine trying to warm the countryside in January, and hear the bustle of the tourists as they flocked from one sight to another. And I definitely felt Laura’s remorse when she returned from her adventure and realized what she had done to her friends.
Ms. Lacoba did a great job on this book, and I would not hesitate to buy the rest.
I really enjoyed this novella. It is well written, smooth flowing and a quick/easy read. Even though there isn't much background information on the characters yet, I already like them.
Laura and her two best friends have recently graduated high school in Australia. After working hard to save money and much convincing, they are on their way to Italy for their first vacation as adults. After being bothered by a group of over friendly guys, the mysterious Phillipe shows up to run them off and then recommends a restaurant to them. She falls for the mysterious man she just met. After finding a note from him that night, they have a secret rendezvous every night. On their last night together, he gives her a heart shaped locket.
I am looking forward to reading the two novels in this series.
Book 46 of my Reading Challenge
This was a lovely little short read the prequel to Bloodgifted
Introducing Laura Dantonvile and the mysterious yet handsome Philippe.
Laura and her friends are in Italy on a short vacation the scenery sounds wonderful and I became immersed in the story.
In the distance, the Mediterranean Sea sparkled in the late afternoon sunshine as our train snaked around the narrow precipice of the southern Italian coastline. Jagged cliffs dropped away inches from the iron tracks that barely clung to the rocky earth.
It is just a short quick read but sets the background for the Dantonville Legacy Series I enjoyed it so much I immediately upon finishing the story downloaded Bloodgifted
Worth reading :-)
This story takes you back to that first romance of summer vacation. That oh so wonderful feeling of first love...
Laura Dantonville travels to Italy with her two best friends and is swept off her feet by the sexy Frenchmen Philippe, slightly dangerous but all the more intriguing to young Laura. Can she keep the secret of her romance with Philippe? What would her friends say if they knew?
The author uses such wonderfully descriptive writing that it feels like your actually there in Italy with Laura as she discovers first love...
What happens next... Bloodgifted Dantonville legacy #1 that's where we find out more about Laura and yes Philippe as well...
A great read. Laura and two of her friends take a trip to Italy after graduating from High School. Shortly after arriving she is saved from some harassing Italian boys. The boys seemed scared and run when Philippe makes an appearance.. He is gorgeous and walks the girls to the restaurant. Laura snicks out to meet him that night and the next, but the third night he did not show up nor follow them to the other cities they visited. Philippe gave her a silver locket.
The second part of the book, explains the curse that made the Roman soldiers vampires which continues in Bloodgifted B1 of the Dantonville Legacy, which I am now reading.
This Novella was truly my ‘Romantic Getaway’! Laura and her besties go on holiday to the Amalfi coast in Italy. I had just been there last summer and I was reliving it all over again. Imagine you meet Mr Dreamboat while you are there and are instantly swept off your feet! Laura meets a handsome stranger who seems too good to be real! Her friends are very suspicious and rightfully so. Seems Laura is oddly obsessed with this man and will break all rules to be in his company. So ladies, get in the bubble bath, burn some candles and get ready to be swept away- Italian style!
Laura is young, innocent, and inexperienced with men. It doesn't help that she has a rare blood disorder that makes her look younger than her age. So when she's on holiday with friends in Italy and meets a strange, beautiful man, it's far too easy for her to fall for him. He sweeps her off her feet then mysteriously disappears.
This is well written and very engrossing for a short story. I can sympathize with Laura immediately and enjoy following along as she experiences her first love and her first heartache. Great read!
I really enjoyed this story. 18 year old Laura Anne Dantonville and her 2 best friends embark on a journey to Italy for their end of the school year trip. Arriving, they meet Plilippe, a charming handsome man. He is mysterious but steals Laura's heart. One night when they meet alone, Phillippe gives Laura a locket, telling her to never take it off. She never did, but she never heard from him again, and when the locket breaks, her heart does also. This begins the story of Laura and Phillippe and the prequel to the next story, Bloodgifted, Book 1 of The Dantonville Legacy Series..
Laurie, Beth and Angie are the best of friends and as the trio heads on vacation there is mystery in the air.When Laura meets Phillipe Raynard however, she is going to find the mystery only deepens. This is a great short teaser and in the book readers are lucky enough to also get the first three chapters to the author's book Blood Gifted, which looks to be an amazing novel that takes up where this short story leaves off. I found the author writing fascinating and this short story one I couldn't put down.
Hey meet daily late at night until the girls realize she is gone and they go nuts. When she goes to meet him again, the girls go with her but he doesn’t show. Laura is heartbroken but must return home. The locket he gave her is her only memory. She vows never ever to give her heart away so easily again.
This story will make you want to keep reading. A sweet story about Laura and Philippe. Laura who goes on vacation with her two best friends has a chance encounter with the hot guy from Paris Philippe. Will there be anything between the two? You'll have to read it to find out. Laura's Locket is the prequel to The Dantonville Legacy series. I recommend that everyone read this amazing story, and venture into the world of the Dantonville Legacy. You won't regret it.
This is a short read and is the prequel to Bloodgifted. My only problem with this book was of my own making – I read it after Bloodgifted so the bit that should have swept me up didn’t. If I had read it first there is no doubt that I would have been swept away. That aside it is a lovely little read and the characterisation is strong. I will definitely read more by this author.
A nice little coming-of-age story with a happy ending. I liked the way not everything was explained - life is like that, after all. Sometimes we never find out who the mystery man is, and a good thing too.
