WRATH

Rate this book
Lauryn James is a wayward waitress wrestling with a wrecking within. Asher Truesdale is a promising psychology student who is pure at heart. Lauryn's got wrathful ways. Asher has Prince Charming principles. Her temper is explosive, and he has the patience of a saint to be her calm. How they met was divine timing. What they create becomes a magnet for miracles. A mistake they believed should have never happened was actually a catalyst for something always meant to be.

LAURYN JAMES

"Asher could do better than me. A lot better. He has a heart framed in love and I have a heart shadowed by rage. Because rage fueled me before meeting him and kept me safe. Ironically, Asher changed that. I hated men and wanted nothing more than to cause them as much pain as just one man caused me. But Asher was different. Asher is the guy a girl like me is supposed to only crush on but not actually attract. I have issues that are way too deep to solve. A life that was ruined before it could really begin. My past is way too dark to see light anywhere in it and yet he’s looked past all I think is bad to see my good. Even if I could accept that I got lucky getting the attention of a man with a heart of gold and the patience of a saint, there’s no telling how long it will take for him to realize that saving me is impossible. Not without losing himself."

ASHER TRUESDALE

"I want to be the better Lauryn needs. She was never the plan, but then again, I don’t really follow plans all that well, anyway. I’ve never experienced hardship in my life, so providing the safe space she desires is an honor. Her issues are not her own and I want her to know I don’t find them to be the burden she thinks they are to me. Before meeting her, I believed I ruined my life, a life I’ve never quite been happy living, to everyone’s surprise. All that changed when I met her. She requires patience, a lot of patience, and I’ve got more than enough to give. Besides, love is kind and patient, and she deserves at least that after all she’s been through. If only she could see that I fully understand and I will meet her needs. If only she knew she was saving me just as much as she believes I’m saving her… if not more."

Wrath is a passion that inclines humans to act with a desire for vengeance. The passion by itself isn’t good or evil, but it can take on a moral quality that is rooted in intent. Wrath, in this context, is a strong feeling of resentment and a thirst for revenge. Like every vice, there is its heavenly virtue. One that overcomes and transforms the opposing vice. And patience is wrath’s countering virtue. But can the patient one soothe the wrath in another, transmuting this vice by providing refuge with reason and love? Or will this wrath be too great and too justified that it ends up consuming them both?

WRATH is a standalone and book six in the Love is Cure, Vol. 1 - Vices & Virtues series. WRATH contains references to sexual assault, suicide, and depression. Brookelyn Mosley

Brookelyn wrote her first short story when she was a sophomore in high school. Back then she discovered how using her experience as a teen living in Brooklyn to create romantic shorts was just as exciting to her as retail shopping and going on dates. After starting her first semester of college two years later, Brookelyn’s creative writing became more of a hobby and something to do to escape the stress of midterms and finals. Now in her 30s as a freelance writer, penning short stories and novellas is her everything. While her experience with writing has evolved for the better, her undying love for creating fiction remains unchanged. Brookelyn's focus is on creating contemporary women's fiction with characters based in urban settings. Her stories chronicles the emotional journeys and erotic experiences of women today through her characters and the scenarios they're thrown into.

The motivation behind her brand of writing has a lot to do with what she discovered storytelling provided for her - an escape. Her goal with her work is to create characters and urban worlds that offer a great escape for fiction readers looking for a break from the daily grind of adulting and who prefer to relax with good books and short stories. When she’s not freelancing, doing yoga, or showing her husband and toddler lots of love, she can be found sitting at her computer desk, with her legs folded, and a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) at arm’s reach as she types or edits her latest short or novella.

my heart 💔

I absolutely loved this story! It was gut wrenching and heartbreaking but also healing. Brookelyn handled Lauryn and Asher’s story with a gentleness that made me want to offer them the biggest hug. I a sucker for broken characters who reach their fullest potential and there was no better partner than Asher. The story was heavy, and while Asher’s mom PMO to the highest level, I still think Asher did his due diligence to gain her trust in understanding that he was nothing like his mother. The way Asher and Lauryn consistently checked in with each other was such a highlight for me. Ughh I loved this one real bad!

I have enjoyed most of the books in this series, but this one hit so differently. Poor Lauryn experienced such horrific trauma at a young age, that has shaped her life, and how she views men. After going through that hell, she lost both her parents, causing her to further retreat into herself. Her aunt stepped right in to care for her and offered her love all the love she could stand. However, neither of them spoke of what happened, nor did Lauryn receive any professional help.

Lauryn despises men! Will not allow a man to get close to her, and if he disrespects by touching her, the rage is immediate; and rightfully so! 💔 She is coasting through life, working a job she hates, and tries to quiet the whispers and the nightmares that she endures often. My heart continually broke for her, as it seemed she in a perpetual state of fight or flight. Until.....

Asher! 😍 Born into a wealthy family and had all the things and opportunities that one could imagine. However, everything was force fed to him, what he would do in life, where he would go to school, where he would live. He was never allowed to make decisions for himself and live the way he saw fit. It didn't help that his mother was an overbearing and judgmental, and his father was physically present, but absent from his life. So, he rebelled. Went off grid to find himself, and his purpose in life. When he returns, he moves to Brooklyn, and enrolls in a local university. On moving day, he sees her.

When Asher lays eyes on a woman living in his building, he is mesmerized by her beauty. He is also curious about her big, loose clothing, and her sad eyes. It is those eyes that draw him in, where he can see pain and hurt. He knows right at that moment, he needs to get to know her, and be the light she so desperately needs.

Lauryn takes notice of Asher as well that first day, but doesn't think much of it, as he is a man! However, there was something in his gaze that made her feel warm, comforted, and safe. I can't feel that from a man can I.

Asher takes his time to build a friendship with Lauryn and let her know he does not have ill intentions. He continually shows up with his Job-like patience, support, and dedication to her; showing her that although life can be tough sometimes, there can be tiny rays of joy as well. He wanted to be that for her. I loved these two together! 💓 If you don't read another story from this series, this is the one! Amazing job Brookelyn! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

a must read
A slow, steady and building and burning love. So well written. They really loved each other. I don't think I have read anything like this The complexities of the characters could have weighed the story way down because this was some serious baggage, but instead it gave us insight that made us compassionate, knowledgeable and invested in their love. They just fit, they were meant to be. I Downloaded this book when it was released but I was hesitant to read it because I am grieving right now and I did not want the heavy topic to send me spiraling deeper into my grief..... . But I felt the opposite, I felt, hope, empowerment, growth, unwavering commitment, and love.

Side note: I don't know how Brookelyn does it, but she is a master at storytelling and should be seen on the big screen.

This was such a good read!

ARC REVIEW

A Tale of Redemption and Love: A Review of "WRATH" by Brookelyn Mosley

In "WRATH," the sixth installment of the Vices & Virtues series by Brookelyn Mosley, the author delves deep into the complexities of human emotion, exploring themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of love. My initial thoughts on the novel was that this is heavy and a lot to unpack. But it’s also very detailed and provides understanding for readers. What I didn’t care for was how people alienated Lauryn even though they didn’t know her story. Nobody thought hey there’s probably a reason for why she is the way he is. Also I didn’t care for Priscilla or Patricia. Overbearing mothers seem to run in Summer’s family and I really hate it. There’s not wrong with just being happy for your child. Patricia lacked the understanding that no matter you in-still in your children they are still humans and you are not their only influence.

Lauryn James, a wayward waitress haunted by her past and consumed by rage, finds an unexpected beacon of hope in Asher Truesdale, a psychology student with a heart of gold and an abundance of patience. Their unlikely union sparks a journey of self-discovery and healing, challenging preconceived notions of worthiness and redemption.

Mosley skillfully navigates the dichotomy between wrath and patience, showcasing how these opposing forces collide and intertwine within the hearts of her characters. Through Lauryn and Asher's tumultuous relationship, she highlights the inherent struggle between vengeance and forgiveness, demonstrating that even the darkest of pasts can be illuminated by the light of compassion and understanding.

The characters of Lauryn and Asher are intricately crafted, each possessing their own flaws and virtues that complement and challenge one another. Lauryn's internal battle with her past demons is palpable, her journey towards self-acceptance and redemption serving as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit. Asher, on the other hand, embodies the epitome of patience and unconditional love, his unwavering devotion to Lauryn serving as a testament to the transformative power of compassion.
Lauryn is of a passionate and intense nature, resilient and adaptable. Her character is a captivating force, with emotions running deep in every aspect of her being. Despite setbacks, Lauryn's unwavering strength and adaptability allow her to navigate life's challenges with grace and determination. Asher, in contrast, is sweet, patient, and remarkably laid-back, radiating kindness and warmth effortlessly. His resilience shines through as he faces adversity with a calm demeanor, showcasing an unwavering commitment to kindness. Their friendship blossomed into romance organically as they took the time to truly understand each other. Asher's patience and understanding towards Lauryn's trauma were beautiful, leading to a loving relationship grounded in mutual respect and support. Brookelyn's portrayal of their journey from friendship to romance is realistic and touching, emphasizing the importance of genuine connection and understanding in relationships. The characters' development and the progression of their relationship seem thoughtfully executed, contributing to a coherent and engaging storyline. The organic evolution from friendship to romance, coupled with an exploration of Lauryn’s trauma from past issues adds depth and authenticity to the story.

The story is very engaging and there is a lot character development. I also feel like because it is a slow burn it enhanced the storyline and made for a more exciting story. There’s a lot of depth and authenticity in the story. It also details what victims go through after such an ordeal and which makes the story even more intriguing. Lauryn’s character arc was especially beautiful because in my opinion she took back her power for the person that hurt and that was riveting.

Patricia is such a despicable human being. I needed her to get the treatment Stacia was going to get in that restaurant. I hated her character because she looked down on Lauryn and people who aren’t considered upper echelon overall. It’s sickening. And I see Priscilla hasn’t changed either. If Patricia had a heart attack at that table I would’ve been so happy. The way she tried to finesse Lauryn into getting an abortion was so disgusting. Talking about it’s your body and your choice and don’t tell Asher. Despicable. But while I had to deal with these horrible people the story also had some A grade supporting character in the form of Jayce, Summer and Aunt Evelyn. They added a little comedic relief which was beneficial to the story due to it being so heavy. It gave the story the perfect balance.

Asher was so supportive even when he didn’t agree with the abortion. He was clearly hurt but he exhibited so much altruism.

The conversation Asher had with Lauryn’s father was highly anticipated by me. The entire book I was like when am I gonna see him. It was like that visit with Asher and hearing everything that was happening for Lauryn gave him life. He definitely found his reason again. This chapter had me so emotional because it just felt like after so many years he exhaled after holding his breath for so long. I understand how he felt responsible for what happened to Lauryn and the entire situation at large but in my opinion that visit definitely granted him solice.

At its core, "WRATH" is a testament to the indomitable nature of the human spirit and the redemptive power of love. Mosley's masterful storytelling and exploration of complex themes make this a captivating read that will linger in the hearts of readers long after the final page.

In conclusion, "WRATH" is a compelling tale of love, redemption, and the enduring power of the human spirit. Mosley's exploration of the themes of wrath and patience is both thought-provoking and deeply moving, making this a must-read for fans of contemporary romance and literary fiction alike.

Wrath (The Love is Cure, Vol. 1 Vices & Virtues book 6) by Brookelyn Mosley is about Lauryn James and Asher Truesdale. At a young age Lauryn experienced something so traumatic she has a difficult time sleeping, so she spends her nights waitressing in a New York strip club. She loathes men something serious and her work environment does nothing but add fuel to fire. When man get handsy with her she gets handsy with them (and I mean that in no way sexual). Lauryn is rightfully filled with raged, she’s closed off to the world so it can’t hurt her. Asher had a different upbringing than Lauryn. He grew up in the Hamptons with an overbearing mother and a present yet absentee father. he’s just come back to New York after living in Bali for a year, trying to find himself. His new apartment is in the same building as Lauryn’s and from the moment they meet eyes a spark is lit. I love that even as a counselling psychology student Asher never tries to shrink Lauryn. He uses his learnings to inform how he approaches Lauryn and that means everything! Asher is genuine and kind. The dates he plans are intentional, it’s obvious that he’s cultivating a relationship that allows Lauryn the space to be soft. Lauryn’s aunt Evelyn is a godsend. The relationship Evelyn and Lauryn have is beautiful, i’m glad that Lauryn had someone she could trust when she’d closed herself off to the world. You could see the depts she went through to protect Lauryn. Plus I love Sunday dinners! The way the story unravels feels authentic and realistic. So many important conversations were had and of course therapy with Dr. Liz Peters is phenomenal. There's discussions of traumatic themes yet I was still left with a warm fuzzy feeling. The balance of the light and dark, heavy emotion and elation was perfect to me. Asher and Lauryn are the two sweetest hearts 🥰 Awww this has been a lovely experience! My fav trope is present so you know I'm over the MOON! This series has been such a delight to read, I can't believe we have 1 more vice left.

P.s. The bonus epilogue was the cherry on top!
P.s.s. Btw Asher is cousins with Summer (read PRIDE book 1, if you haven’t already). If you thought Summer’s mom was bad you have to meet Patricia Truesdale. That lady takes the cake and the way she oversteps boundaries no wonder Asher ran off to Bali.

Cw~ kidnapping and sexual assault survivor. Mentions of suicidal thoughts and abortion.

This was my first read from Brookelyn Mosley and it won’t be my last! Lauryn’s story was extremely heartbreaking but I really enjoyed watching her bloom throughout her romance with Asher. Asher was an extremely patient and kind man and I was just so happy to see these two individuals that seemed so opposite at first glance become a great couple.

I loved how natural everything felt because at no time within the story did I feel like there were any plot points that were thrown in just to create unnecessary drama/tension. I also really loved the underlying commentary within the story about how important it is to see black and brown people in mental health positions.

I felt like there were so many moments in this story where I would just be crying because the writing was just so beautiful. There were funny moments in this for me. There were also really intense and deeply sad moments. It was just a really great roller coaster ride. I love the thought and care that was put into this story so I’m definitely going to give Brookelyn Mosley another read!

ARC Review...

Wrath is defined as great anger that expresses itself in a desire to punish someone. In book six of the Love is Cure series we meet Lauryn James, who’s demeanor and behavior are a textbook reflection of this definition. Enter Asher Truesdale, the epitome of patience, support, selflessness…and did I mention he loves to read too! With Asher’s steady presence in Lauryn’s life, navigating through a past trauma that has thus far defined her day to day existence, becomes less of an obstacle and more of a journey to healing and evolution for two people who are undoubtedly made for each other. One thing BK gonna do is pen a swoon worthy book bae, and by the end of the story this couple inevitably earns a virtual hug and a few tears from this reader!

another great read

Oh where do I start? We meet Lauryn who has every reason to be angry and mad. She had a really tragic instance that changed her life completely. We meet Asher who has lived a cushy life but still looking for his purpose. These 2 meet as he is moving into the same apartment complex as Lauryn. With a lot of patience, Asher gains Lauryn’s trust and eventually love. It was great to see Dr. Peters in this story and showing how therapy is so helpful.

Loved this story even though so parts were hard to read. I’m so glad Lauryn got her HEA because she deserved it. Can’t wait for book 7 in this fabulous series.

Just WOOOOOW

This is my first time reading this author, and I'm blown away by this book. My Gawd, every woman needs the emotional intellect that Asher had. I honestly could see this becoming a movie. It was gripping on so many levels. From the beginning to the very end, I was completely invested. I honestly did know what to expect, seeing as it was a recommendation, and I hadn't read the synopsis. Welp, as you can see, I highly recommend this book if you're looking the following: Excellent character development, amazing dialog, heartwarming moments, and to smile hard. There could be some triggering moments, but it's so worth the read.

Great series and this one did not disappoint

This author's work continues to increase exponentially. While parts of this story are tragic and emotional, what you will also find is the blossoming of a beautiful love story. The way Asher loved on Lauryn will cause you to swoon as his patience was unwavering. While they experienced bumps along their journey, their love for each other is authentic. The character development, the pace of the story and even the supporting cast made for a rich experience. I also love how this author shows her love for New York through her descriptions making you feel as if you were there. Another amazing read by an amazing author.

My Favorite

This is my favorite so far of the series. Asher was a prince among men and the best book bae ever! I am so in love with this man. Lauren was going through life as an emotional cripple until he came along. They needed each other and found one another. This book was so good, I read it twice back to back.

Brooklyn Mosely has become one of my favorite writers. I troll for her new releases, because she never disappoints. This series has kept me entertained and on my toes. Bravo!

Broken pieces!

Asher, a guy from a well off family decides to move into an apartment that his mom disapproves of, but it turns out to be the best thing in his life. He sees Lauren, a young lady who has so much happen to her early in life and doesn’t trust men, is very angry and wants nothing to do with him. I loved the way that Asher was so patient with her and won her over. Ms. Moseley did a good job of writing this book. It really kept me vested in the story.

Let me first say I adore Brookelyn Mosley writing. Wrath, maybe my favorite from the Love is Cure series. Yes, there are trigger warnings. But the care that was made by the author is appreciated. This story shows that love, kindness, and compassion go a long way ❤️.

Good read

This book was cool. Good chemistry between the characters. I would've liked to see more with Lauryn finding a career. I also thought were going to see her reconnect with her dad or at least gum writing her a letter. I was disappointed that wasn't included.

Loved this story! It was gut-wrenching and heartbreaking, yet somehow still healing. Brookelyn handled Lauryn and Asher’s story with such gentleness that it made me want to give them the biggest hug. I’m a sucker for broken characters who grow into their fullest potential, and there was no better partner for that journey than Asher.
