This book had nice business advice, some of which I hadn't gotten before, and I'll definitely do business differently after reading this book! That being said, some things were a bit predictable, though that's really no handicap for the book. We all need reminders, right?
I met the author personally at a work professional development presentation. She was kind and brought good ideas. She then gave me a little one-on-one mentoring which I really appreciated. This book reminded me of, or shared new, ideas that I intend to bring into my work place.
It’s not just our imagination. Women do have unique challenges when it comes to the workplace. Women are often overlooked for promotions. They tend to make less money. Many find themselves delineated to den mother status.
With that said, much of what happens in the workplace is of our own making. We patiently wait for our boss to notice our efforts. We shy from conflict or any sort of negotiations. Then, when we are asked for input, we talk more about our problems than our successes.
Designed for Success looks at both the problems that women often experience in the workplace and the unique qualities that they possess. Given the right outlook, the appropriate skills, and understanding of workplace dynamics women can be a valuable asset to the office.
This was the first book that I've read with my team. I like that it's scripture based. It also has some good ideas and "door openers" to conversations. I don't feel like a woman that's held back for being a woman and of course this book touches on that in some areas because it is an issue in some places. I do like that it has tips. It also has discussion questions at the end of each chapter which is helpful when doing a group book reading. I do think that this helped build a connection for our team and we may consider another book next year.
Excellent book with great examples. Dondi writes in a clear style, serious yet easy to read. Some of the things I remember were thinking like a project manager, managing your boss and mentoring. Highly recommended.
