All I knew was pain… until the vampire lord set me free.
Since the accident, I have been weak. At least, that’s how people see me; the girl who left college to work in a bookstore because she was in too much pain.
Because she was broken.
When Lucien Thornfield finds me, I’m nothing but a shadow. But he sees something in me I never knew existed.
Something potent.
Something perilous.
He hauls me into his world – a world I’m not sure I can survive – and from that moment, everything changes.
Darkness clings to Lucien like a second skin. An intoxicating mixture of enigmatic allure and lethal charisma. With every smoldering look, he ignites a wildfire in my soul, a passion both exhilarating and terrifying.
But Lucien isn’t the only temptation in my new reality.
There’s Nyx, his biggest rival, as dangerous as he is captivating, commanding a power that both repels and fascinates me.
And then there's Kim, the demon hunter aligned with Thornfield, whose kind gaze holds both secrets and a silent promise of protection.
With enemies lurking and alliances uncertain, I must navigate this treacherous world. But one thing is clear – I'm not the fearful human I once was. I'm evolving, becoming more than I ever imagined.
And I'm not alone. I have a vampire lord, a rival mafia boss, and a demon hunter by my side.
Perhaps, with their help, I'll not only survive this nightmare but rise as its queen.
'Luna' is a whychoose mafia, vampire romance novel with super spicy scenes and a cliffhanger. It is the first in a four book series, which will all be released in Summer 2024.
Tropes
Oh whoops, am I bleeding too close to the super horny vampire lord?I couldn’t possibly fantasise about taking the virginity of the hot demon hunting widower… then ask the vampire lord to help me do it.I hate him, he’s evil, but woaaah does he have big fangs. Please stop following me, even if it is for my protection, because it’s creepy. But also don’t stop.Buffy shouldn’t have had to choose between Angel, Spike, and Riley. Just sayin’He hurt you? I’ll kill him. No, wait, I’ll torture him first. No, wait, I’ll tie him up and let you torture him.How dare you come to me smelling of another man? You must strip immediately so I can lick his scent off your skin.
"You choose how you end me kitten. With the weapon in your hand or the heat between your legs" 🥵
Author Cara Clare has done it again and has me in a complete chokehold with this book, I absolutely devoured it and now don't know what I'm gonna do to try keep myself sane whilst I wait for book 2 especially with it ending on a cliffhanger 😭 If your a lover of paranormal romance with who hurt you vibes ,plus sized fmc with disability rep and touch her and 💀 vibes then you simply have to read this ,trust me you will not be disappointed.
Oh my god, soooo good!! Even better than the first time around. Especially after reading the final books of The Phoenix Prohecy, and meeting Lucien, Kim and Luna already. Also noticing the little bits that have been added to comment the two series was amazing! Phenomenal book!
✨️Book Review - ARC Read✨️ Luna - Cara Clare (220📖) (25th July - 28th July) 5⭐️ 4🌶
Luna is the first book in The Covenant of Shadows series by Cara Clare. It follows Luna, Lucien and Kim. Luna - the human Lucien - the 500 year old vampire mafia boss And Kim - the demon hunter This is a why-choose romance with amazing spice and a cliffhanger that will have you screaming for more.
Holy sh*t, Cara Clare does it again!! That was bloody phenomenal! I wish I hadn't been so busy over the past couple of days otherwise it would have been devoured in one sitting. I was constantly gripped and never wanted it to end. I fell in love with Luna, Lucien and Kim straight away and can't wait to see them bloom in book 2. The writing, the detail and the impeccable spice in Luna will have you drooling. It is chefs kiss, perfection! Oh, and Professor Thornfield sets one hell of a standard for future book men in the future🥵.
Thank you to the amazing Cara Clare for allowing me to be part of her team, for releasing yet another fantastic book and for being an amazing human being💜
Reading luna has been amazing and epic. I have loved all of cara clares books ! I read phoenix prophecys and as that came to an end I didn't think anything else would come close to being as good, however I was wrong. You meet Lucian and luna in the back end of the phoenix prophecy and get a glimpse of who he is but then they start their own journey in luna and let me tell u cara clare delivers an epic book which is a whole new level of goodness the book packs a punch and more. You see more into the world of vampires and learn more about the mafia king himself. This is a journey I can't wait to follow along on.!
I didn’t realize this was a spinoff of the phoenix prophecy series at first. I read Book 1 here before reading arc 2/books 7-8-9 of the phoenix series. While you don’t have to read the phoenix ones first, those books apparently introduce a lot of these characters like Lucien and Kim. I think I would have liked this more and understood more of the backstory if I’d finished the phoenix prophecy series first. I am reading those books now before finishing this series out and I’ll reread this one. So I’d recommend you read those books first for optimal experience. This book didn’t seem to have as many editing issues as the phoenix series, or at least I noticed it less. I’m interested enough to keep reading!
Edit: I’ve finished the 7-8-9 books of phoenix prophecy and now I understand more of the backstory that was alluded to in this one. Not sure if the other books in this series are going to explain that further, but I hope so. It’s a lot to expect new readers to pick up another nine book series to be able to understand what’s going on in this one.
The book had an intreguing start and I found myself wanting to continue reading. The world looked interesting, but there were times I felt context was left out and I was wondering if I somehow had missed a book. There was 0 backstory to any character, only brief glimpses of memory, and this made it hard to get close and connect with them. Luna herself and even Lucien are extremely flight, jumping from love to hate to cold to hot all over the place. I am not a fan of flighty individuals in the first place, so this pulled the book down for me over and over. The book is an OK length bit there is so little happening! There is lots of angry spice, but then we are back to talking about running away. Apart from the beginning of the book Lucien, who is supposed to be a huge big deal vampire and very powerful, shows nothing of the sort. He has a scuffle where he shows superiority in the very beginning, but that's it. I was also confused about the vampires and dying. They seem to be able to both die from injuries (which makes no sense since Lucien opens up his on chest cavity and heals!) and then leave soup gore and bones alla True Blood, but then they suddenly turn to dust alla Buffy later in the book. Hmmm... This is said to be a why choose, and the setup for that is slightly hinted at, the book has a good cliffhanger and I'm wondering if this is a series where book 1 has just tried to place people in the room, and book 2 is when things are actually happening. I do appreciate the author including different trauma for all characters and the choice to have the main FC having some form of pain disorder. I always like reading books that are inclusive. I will continue on to book 2 when that comes out, because I feel there is potential, but I really hope to see far less wishy washy mind changing from one page to the other.
After the events in the last few books of the Phoenix Prophecy series, it's Lucien, Luna, and Kim's turn to take the spot light.
After receiving a gruesome package at the bookstore she works in, Luna is attacked, rescued, and embroiled in more than a war with her emotions.
Lucien is determined to keep Luna safe. As an ancient vampire, Lucien has a past that is coming back to haunt him, and Luna is caught it the cross hairs. He always tried to keep his emotions buried and never let them show, but why does his composure faulter when it comes to her? And can he keep this weakness hidden from those who want to usurp him?
Kim, at the minute, is my favourite, and I'm looking forward to seeing his story unfold. After helping Nova and the gang defeat the big bad in the last series, he embraces his hunter identity and works alongside Lucien to keep Cambridge's underworld in check. Luna has an uncanny resemblance to Kim's deceased wife, and he's unsure if this is why he is drawn to her. He is just as compelled to keep Luna safe and is determined to find out why this new vampire threat is after her.
I enjoyed dipping my toe into the start of this new Supernatural series, and my only complaint is that I wish it was just a little longer. I'd have loved a little more information in parts when Lucien or Kim talked about their past. I'm all here for the spice, too, and there's lots of it, but I sometimes think the dialogue is a little rushed just to get to the spice. The characters are great, and I'm just greedy and want to know everything 😅
As with any Cara Clare book I've read, there's always that tension filled ending where you immediately want to jump into the next book.
OMG😱😍 I stumbled on this on Amazon a while ago and preordered. It showed up today on my kindle and I made a very good decision to order this. Damn it was good! And it ended up on a good cliffhanger! I need the second book now!
Loved the chemistry and tension between Luna and Lucian. The spice was good! Not to much, just right. The story building is good! Loved how it ended on a good cliffhanger. It looks very promising! I think we get some more action as well!
The writing was good! It was fasted pasted! Which I love. No overly long chapters with excessive information. We have some good background of the main characters. Love this is multiple pov. Is there something I didn’t like? Yes, that I have to wait for the second one to come out!😂
So deliciously dark! I was so excited to jump into this new spin off series. It picks up on the side character Lucien from Cara's last three sequel books in the Phoenix Prophecy. I love a dark and gritty romance this didn't disappoint. Lucien was chef's kiss dark but a total cinnamon roll for Luna. I feel like he'd burn the world down for her. The spice was well written and detailed enough to lose yourself in the scenes. I can't wait until the next book in the series because this one ended in quite the cliffy.
The premise drew me in after seeing TikTok videos for these vampire vixen books. I read Sadie Kincaid's first. They aren't connected, which is totally fine! This one was a quick read, but there were a lot of disappointing inconsistencies. The MMC did not read as a powerful vampire to me at all.
Not a terrible book, but I don't think I would read on in the series. I'll keep reading through the VV series, though.
This is a dark romance, well written the storyline is certainly intriguing and kept me glued to the page. The characters are charming dangerous and have their quirks, Luna is always in pain, I do so enjoy a health/disability rep, and Lucian is a contradiction is dark veiled violence and gentle romance. Looking forward to reading the next in series
As a dark romance lover this is not my normal type of book. That said I actually loved it. The characters are well written and the story is gripping. I am looking forward to reading book 2
this book offered no answers whatsoever. there was only build up to… nothing at all. there’s no world building, no character development. there are just things thrown your wait under the flimsy belief that they might be answered next book
I have been waiting for Luna to come out since the end of the Phoenix Prophecy Series. It did not disappoint in the least bit. Cannot wait for the next book!
DNF 12% non linear. If it opens with your abusive boyfriend being gifted to you in chopped up pieces, why do I then want to go back and watch him be alive and abusing you?
Cara does it again! Luna is such a good character and having our FMC as a plus-size, chronically ill girlie is such great representation. Seeing how Lucien thirsts for her (literally) and so many good ~scenes~ in this book I cannot wait for the next one to see what becomes of thjs group.
