For the Love of Murphy

They say love conquers all, but whoever "they" are, must not have heard of Murphy's Law -- whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.

These five tales of sweet, accidental romance prove Cupid's arrows are a lot tougher than they seem, and sometimes it pays to be unlucky.

No Wrong Turns - Lisa A. Adams

Jessica ventures out on her own for the first time. Desperate to leave the comforts of family and home to escape the pain of breaking up with her cheating boyfriend, she sets out on her adventure only to have a string of bad luck follow her out in the middle of nowhere. Was it bad luck or fate stepping in?

This was a cute story. Jessica's troubles began with her car running out of gas, twisting her ankle and losing her wallet. This story seemed to move a lot faster than any of the others with her accepting the help of a handsome stranger and taking refuge from a storm and her swollen ankle at his house. Jessica and Sean seemed to develop a deeper (sex free) connection off the page that was told rather than shown, therefore I found the ending a little rushed. But the final scene was really sweet and elicited an "aww" from me.
He backed away and smiled. "If you're ever headed back through these parts, stop by and see me sometime."

"But, I don't have your number. How would I call and let you know?"

"You won't need to call. I'll be right here waiting for you to return to me one day."

Falling for You - Michelle Ziegler

Darci has no luck with online dating. On the day of what would have been her one year wedding anniversary, had the groom-to-be not jilted her at the altar, her best friend decides it's time for a more forceful inter-friend-tion. Thoughts of the ex-jerk fall away when she receives an email from the one that got away.

I loved this story! It was hilarious and the dialogue made these characters feel so real. Darcia seemed like my kind of gal. A little bit of a geek, a little bit melodramatic, one of those friends you love so dearly that you want to throttle them when they won't take your good advice, or when you think they're just being ridiculous. I really enjoyed every interaction between her and Abby, the meddling best friend.

Andrew was a bit like Darci, and his shyness or apprehension about baring his feelings once and for all was rather adorable. Those two were a perfect fit and deserved each other. If this wasn't a "sweet" romance, I'm sure they would have burned up my e-reader.
"Is that a Cheeto in your hair?"

Darci turned her eyes to the right, following Abby's stare.

When did I eat Cheetos?

She snatched at the snack and shoved it into her mouth. "Nope."

Coffee and Cufflinks - Annabelle Blume

Olivia is still feeling the sting of her recent break up, so her best friend suggests finding a rebound guy. During a stressful in her favorite coffee shop, a handsome stranger pays for her order. Day after day, she makes sure she's there every morning to catch up with her knight in shining cufflinks.

That's a terrible summary on my part, but I found this story hard to sum up considering I almost didn't finish it. There was hardly any interaction with the hero at all except for the brief words in the beginning, in the middle I was once again told instead of shown that they'd had a few mornings where they carried on actual conversations, and the last interaction was briefly at the end. The majority of the story was all about Olivia's highly stressful job, her worries about getting sacked, and nearly a week of nightly bar crawls with her best friend, flirting with men to get free drinks. Their characters and their behavior was indeed vapid (the heroine's words, not mine). I was hoping for more story about Daren and Olivia and less Olivia and Michelle, and all the other side characters which dragged on. By the time I neared the end, I didn't care if they ever got up the nerve to turn their flirting into more.

A Slippery Slope - Rebecca Hart

Anna just wants some R&R on her girls only weekend ski trip. She's not looking for a man so soon after her break-up, but a skiing accident will have hunky Devlin Blue from the ski patrol coming to her rescue.

At first I wasn't sure I was going to like the heroine based on her choices of driving up into the mountains with threadbare tires and stepping into a puddle of icy slush with her suede boots. But the story picked up right away with Anna bumping into hunky hero and soon after that the ball that got things rolling. Just like the first story, I loved the ending. Second "aww" moment of the day. Now THAT was romantic.
"Please, don't worry about it, Anne. You were suffering the effects of a pretty nasty concussion. I know what that can do to a person." He added a wink. "And, their inhibitions."

The Shamrock Incident - London Saint James

Flower shop owner Marissa Carmichael isn't having a good day. Neither is Trey Cleary. When she barrels into his life, could he be her lucky charm to keep her from tripping over herself or maybe he'll just sweep her off her feet once and for all.

The sappy, happy bubbles rose up in me from the first page onwards. Marissa and Trey seemed so down to earth. Within the first few minutes of their awkward meeting, I believed the stirrings of chemistry going on between them. He may have been there to deliver some unpleasant news, but the gentleman that he was, he decided to stay and help her. I really liked the maturity they showed in the development of their relationship amidst moments of shyness which was really cute.
"You had my attention the first time you fell into my life, no need to keep trying to break your neck," Trey said in a breathless, teasing tone.

What a wonderful anthology this was to read. The stories are sweet and light, many of the characters, adorable in their bad-luck, clumsiness.

The anthology starts with No Wrong Turns by Lisa A. Adams -- a story where the main character is just starting out on her own. Leaving the protections of home and family to strike out and hopefully succeed. Like all the stories in this anthology, a series of vehicular mishaps and a lost wallet bring the MCs, Jessica and Sean together. Adorable.

Falling for You by Michelle Ziegler is the tale of a single lady, Darci, who has the worst luck imaginable finding a suitable match in the world of online profiles and blind dates. Of all the stories, this one held the most humor, and there were places where I found myself nodding in agreement or laughing out loud. A fun read.

Coffee and Cufflinks was probably my favorite of the bunch. Being an office geek, I was able to really enjoy this story about the corporate world and dealing with a client who is less than ideal. The studly water bearing hero, Daren, sounds yummy!!

A Slippery Slope -- I will reserve my thoughts on this one, as I wrote it under my mainstream pen name. Suffice to say, it is good :P

The anthology closes with The Shamrock Incident by London Saint James, the perfect ending to this sweet collection. With the main character working in her florist shop during the St. Paddy's Day rush, Marissa and Treys lives literally crash together, and the romance begins to fly. I really enjoyed the authentic feel of this story, and I really felt connected to the main character, Marissa. Excellent writing, and a wonderful ending -- to the story, and the anthology.

I highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys quirky, real feeling romance stories written on the sweet side. And, I am happy to report the heat rating on this one is low enough I was actually able to recommend it to my mother. Hooray!

This collection of short stories has the theme of Murphy’s Law and showed such diversity. The accidental meetings of hero and heroine were different and memorable because each time, the heroine was not at her best. This is a great way for the reader to connect with these characters because we’ve all been in similar situations.

No Wrong Turns by Lisa A. Adams
The kindness of strangers, especially when far from home, is always helpful when a woman sets out on her own.

Falling For You by Michelle Ziegler
A reunion of college friends turns a what-never-was-said situation into let’s-give-this-a-try possibility.

Coffee and Cufflinks by Annabelle Blume
A story that reminds us both about slowing down to smell the coffee and being your true self.

A Slippery Slope by Rebecca Hart
A hunky ski patrol guy fulfills the fantasy of skiing women everywhere.

The Shamrock Incident by London Saint James
Compassion comes into play when a handsome stranger ends up straightening out a situation for the floral shop owner he intended to confront.

With this anthology, I discovered new-to-me authors and I will definitely search for more of their releases.

For the Love of Murphy is a romance anthology with the running theme of bad luck, which may bring the couples in the stories a bit of good luck in the end.

The first story, No Wrong Turns by Lisa A. Adams is a tale of a woman named, Jessica who has decided to leave home in her attempt to not only leave bad memories behind, but to be on her own and be independent. Only she has a problem. Her trip away from home leaves her stranded on a rather deserted road when her car runs out of gas.

The Verdict:
The whole of the anthology left me wanting for nothing. Even at a heat level one, all of the authors have put in enough sensual excitement that you are waiting for glorious moment. All of these stories live up to that challenge leaving your heart skipping and a smile across your face, just as a powerful kiss is shared. Promises of things to come keep your mind wandering for hours, thinking about the endless possibilities between these couples.

For the Love of Murphy is an anthology of stories that are perfect for quick-reads. Each story is short and sweet, with characters that are both believable and likable. I particularly liked how many of the female characters are clumsy and a little awkward, much like myself! The male characters are, of course, all swoon-worthy, especially Sean in No Wrong Turns which I think was my favourite of the bunch. I enjoyed all of the stories and look forward to reading more by each of the authors!

4/5 stars: Sweet straightforward romances that are ideal for a ten minute escape from reality.

For the Love of Murphy is the perfect collection of short stories that you should read on your daily commute to work or while you are waiting in a long queue. It has all the characteristics that might improve your mood. The stories are exactly as the title suggests, a take on Murphy’s Law, ‘Anything that can go wrong will go wrong’.

From nearly getting married to the wrong friend and then being jilted at the altar to rebelling against your parents, leaving home and immediately losing your wallet half way down the street is what all the stories are about. Every character is believable and either we are them or we know of people who are quite similar.

You will invariably do something silly or get a bump on your forehead in front of a very interesting and date-able guy like in London Saint James’s The Shamrock Incident.

Olivia of Coffee and Cufflinks has a high powered job and she meets this wonderful guy everyday at the same coffee shop. They know nothing about each other, other than their coffee orders and her love of expensive bottled water. How fate brings them together after a series of disasters proves that once everything that can have gone wrong has gone wrong, something will go right!

I will not go into great details of each story as that would spoil the fun of a short story. I believe all of these authors have a lot of potential and I hope they’ll write more in future.

These stories are extremely short and just right. They are quite predictable as well if you are a champion romance reader. However if you do read a lot of romance then you must love happily ever-afters as well. I would recommend that you read For the Love of Murphy if you are after something sweet and uncomplicated to read. If you are having a moment when you don’t want to be logical and practical read this anthology. However if you are after stories with a lot of complications in plot and denouement I would suggest you don’t read it because it would be an injustice to these authors, the stories and to you.

I loved this anthology! Each author stands out beautifully in these stories. I love feel good romances that don't add to the stresses of life.
These stories were sweet, short, and simply wonderful.

The characters are real. The woman are all a mess and unlucky in love and the men are swoon worthy. (It's a romance.) You've either been where these women are or know someone that has been. From branching out on your own, or being left at the alter, to a zing at your first meet, or possibly a heroic rescue, and lastly having fait or the luck o' the Irish attack, this anthology will leave you smiling and giggling.

I'm super proud to be published along side the talent in this book and plan to snatch up other great stories written by my fellow authors.

I fell in LOVE with this anthology, and I must say that I’m now a total fan-girl of my fellow authors. Each one of the stories was superb and sweetly sexy! One of my OMG LOL moments goes to Michelle Ziegler for writing something that will make me giggle every time I see a Cheeto.

For the Love of Murphy, two thumbs up. High Fives all around. All of you are worthy of 5 stars :)

This was a very cute collection of sweet romances. They all revolve around the theme of happy accidents - or at least accidents that eventually lead to happiness. While the collection was fun to read, there were two that really stood out as favorites. A Slippery Slope and The Shamrock Incident finished the set off very nicely and I think I will be going back to re-read them again sometime.

I was given this book by a friend and have since gone back to thank them. I enjoyed each of the short stories in the anthology but connected most with Falling for You. Anyone who has tried online dating can relate to Darci and her struggle to find anyone somewhat normal. The series of events in the story tie in well with the overall theme of the anthology. The story is wonderfully written and easy to read. Well done!
