Catechisms are designed to provide a summary of Christian doctrine as understood by the denomination providing the catechism. Protestant Reformer Martin Luther produced both a small and large catechism. This larger catechism provides more detail and analysis. Luther covers The Ten Commandments, The Apostles' Creed, Prayer, Baptism, and The Sacrament of the Altar/Communion. Each section ends with Study Questions.

This is amazing. It's a gold mine of thought and exposition on the 10 commandments, the Lord's prayer, the Apostle's Creed, and the sacraments of baptism and communion. I'll definitely add this to my regular study when teaching on any of the topics or Scripture passages he addresses.

This book has inspired me and my faith, or rather, I feel that the Holy Spirit has worked through the writings of Luther to inspire me to be a better Christian. I wish all Lutherans or anyone interested in Lutheranism would read this. It was so easy to understand.

As a retired Presbyterian Teaching Elder, growing up and spending virtually all of my life in the Reformed Tradition, it was a refreshing read to go through Luther's Catechism. Having now affiliated with an ELCA congregation in retirement, and with my son now contemplating Seminary in the Lutheran tradition, my son suggested I read this book.

In well-known Lutheran tradition, the Catechism goes through the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, the Lord's Prayer, Baptism and Sacrament of the Altar. While certainly understandable and insightful in comparison to my Reformed background, it was also encouraging to see additional perspectives and truths gleaned from these texts, and how they can add to my own faith understanding.

The language and style of writing may seem a bit antiquated to modern readers. But if one is willing to see beyond this surface level challenge, one finds that Luther has much to say and offer to those who seek to follow in the steps of Jesus Christ today. I am glad to have had the opportunity to read and reflect upon this work.
