Rose Clyde lost her girlfriend six months ago in a tragic accident. Since then, she simply goes through the motions, knowing she might be doomed to spend the rest of her life grieving. But when her best friend calls with a strange job offer—working the front desk of an old hotel up the Maine coastline—it’s an offer Rose can’t refuse. And a chance to restart her life.
But Rose isn’t prepared for Kane Sullivan, her new boss. This enigmatic, captivating woman, from their very first meeting, has Rose spellbound. There’s something about Kane that seems so familiar…why does Rose feel as if she’s seen this lovely, powerful woman before?
As the strange old Sullivan Hotel begins to reveal its dark secrets, Rose’s life hangs in the balance. But an even greater danger looms:
She’s falling in love with a vampire.
“Meeting Eternity” is the first volume in the Sullivan Vampires series. It contains the full first three novellas in the series: Eternal Hotel, Eternal Kiss and Eternal Thief. The Sullivan Vampires is a beautiful, romantic epic that follows the clan of Sullivan vampires and the women who love them. Advance praise has hailed this hallmark series as “Twilight for women who love women” and “a lesbian romance that takes vampires seriously! Two thumbs up!” It is approximately 60,000 words (several days worth of reading or so).
My name is Bridget Essex, and I write about werewolves, vampires and lady knights; about two strong, courageous women who fall deeply in love with one another, living love stories that transcend time. I'm married to the love of my life, author Natalie Vivien.
I'm best known for my Knight Legends series, stories about women knights, real world hi-jinks and love stories that are out of this world. My Sullivan Vampire novellas are a popular series lauded as "TWILIGHT for women who love women," and I have several other series and stand-alone novellas, and I'm always putting out something new. mostly bland I have no desire to give this book a bad review, but an honest review will come out sounding bad. The MC Rose is introduced as a woman in mourning and clinically depressed after the death of her girlfriend at the hands of a drunk driver. Wile it picks up a little after that, it never completely shakes off the fug. Even on her good days Rose is never completely present as a fully actualized person and drifts through the book as an observer. She had invested her identity in the relationship and had adopted all her girlfriends dreams and passions. After her death Rose is bereft of dreams, passion, and identity. I finished this book a few hours ago and already the details are becoming hazy and indistinct. There is a sense of moody atmosphere that was meant to be romantic but just comes across as the duller bits of the Shining in the Overlook Hotel. Add to all of this some very odd turns of phrase that break the narrative flow as you try to puzzle them out. By no means did I hate or even dislike this book, but I fear I may have been caring for it out of pity.
4 solid stars..This review reflects all the Novellas. I loved all of the characters so much!! Rose second guessed herself a lot and I would have liked to see more development with the rest of Sullivan, particularly Mags-was she punished??, seemed kind of important. I got a three-way romance vibe with some of the other women and Rose as well.. The series leaves off on a cliffhanger:(...
I really want to like this author's work, but every book I've read has left me bored. I couldn't count the number of times I mutter, "Come on, get on with it." under my breath while reading a Bridget Essex book. The vast amount of inner monologue is only tiring because nothing else ever happens. The entire book consists of inner monologue. Every single time something does actually happen the main character reflects on the incident three times over before the story can move on. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for suspense and intensity, but that can't be ALL a story consists of unless you are very, very skilled at world building. I definitely think Bridget Essex is talented in setting a scene, her descriptive flair is nothing less than exceptional. I just wish she weaved in a real story along the way. She sets the setting, she lays out the circumstances, but the story arc leaves much to be desired. I'm also left indifferent by her characters, they are all the same. They all raise their brow(s) and tilt their heads to the side. They are carbon copies of eachother, differing only in hair and eye colour. Where is the personality? Why are all the love interests calm, quiet and powerful? Why are all the heroines self controlled, conservative chicks who's only real conflict to overcome is, "Does she or doesn't she like/love me?" Her books are great if you JUST want a descriptive run down of someone falling in love and enjoying an inevitable and anti-climactic happy ending.... But if you're looking for something to make your heart race you'd be better of reading a dictionary. Sorry, it's true.
Kane Sullivan is the type of character every gay woman wants to either be or be with. She is mysterious, sexy and represents women who engage between stereotypical masculine and feminine characteristics. The other characters are also very detailed and engaging to the point where I want to know more about them. I feel the Sullivan family besides Kane, Tommie, and Bran didn't get much of a look in and I would especially like to know more about Mags and her past as to why she is so different to the others.
The potential for this trilogy is huge, however, I feel it did not quite meet the mark. Bridget Essex is, by all means, an incredibly talented author who writes for a market that is in need of more authors like her. I do consider whether if I had read this vampire series prior to her knight series I may be more impressed yet compared to the Knight series I was a little disappointed. I found the internal monologuing was more than needed and I found myself drifting from the actual happenings. I also felt that if these internal monologues weren't there, there would be more space for the 'doing' rather then the 'thinking'.
The factor that made me gives this book a 3 rather then a 4 is the mass of spelling mistakes and wromgly auto-corrected words. It completely disrupts my flow of reading and staggers the story. Its such a simple and minor detail however is something I struggle to get past.
On the other hand, Bridgets detail to environments and surroundings are incredible, as if I sat on the beach alongside them. The way she describes how an environment makes the character feel is very compelling which relates back to vampires very well. Also how the description of the same building -the Sullivan hotel - changes from the way it looks in the daytime compared to at night.
I am glad that it finished on a cliffhanger. Even though I was a little disappointed overall, I was still very excited to read volume 2 which I picked up almost immediately.
I don't do a lot of reviews but I had to for this book. I really like the author's work I've read many of her books and loved them but for some reason every time I saw this series I'd just pass right over it and I don't know why so I thought let me try it. To say I was disappointed would be a understatement I have to agree with another reviewer Rox the inner monologue of repeating the same thing over and over again was the worst and I skipped a lot of it after a while. Things weren't being said out loud when it should have been, there were things said that went no where and the whole lover coming back from the dead and no one really questioning it even though they were questioning it. It was like oh yeah she was dead and now she's back and she's a vampire at that, somethings not right but hey would you like some tea. It's not realistic even in the realm of fiction. I should have stuck to my original feeling about this series when I first stumbled onto this author and never picked up this book. Good thing it was free other wise I'd be asking for my money back.
It's pretty disappointing, to be honest. It's like twilight but with lesbians and a smoking fetish (seriously, the number of mentions of cigarettes in this book is concerning).
Extremely bland characters, especially the main character, and an uninspired story with boring plot points. The only thing I did like was the mysteries and the dark small-town atmosphere of the book itself. The writing and the narrator were also okay, but nothing outstanding.
I think this is gonna be the last book from this author for me. I also read Dark Angel and had similar problems (though that one had a good setup IMHO).
Though I do recommend this book if you are into the twilight-like drama I guess? I don't think there is anything sapphic like that out there.
No wonder i didn't like it. I hated Twilight. Didn't care for this book either. Should have known better. Vampires. Sometimes I think lesbian authors are obsessed with them and werewolves. Fantasy only. With the exception of Sarah Waters and Emma Donahue not one will take a chance. Same romantic fluff as usual. What a shock it would be to actually read something of substance. Yet again passing time until Sarah Waters writes a new book.
This is a well written tale of two very different women, one human, the other vampire. Both lost the love of their lives to death. These well developed characters are inexplicably drawn to each other. Suddenly, one woman's supposedly dead love returns. The engrossing storyline flows from the pages, making this a must read. Be prepared to be left hanging....
im so happy there is a lesbian vampire story out. with smut! the vampire mechanics are HILARIOUS, I won't spoil it but it's very smutty. also great plot twists.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2.5 Stars Rounded Up ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Easy enough to read and enjoyable for most of the time. But it seemed so rushed and unrealistic that all of this would happen over the span of only like 2 days. Add in Rose’s immediate obsession with Kane and her inability to not lead Tommy on, and then her ✨ instant ✨ depression cure, and it continuously had my mind slipping out of the story to constantly focus on how unrealistic it was.
Good but left me hanging! No doubt, Bridget Essex is a talented writer. The description of the hotel, the vampires, and Rose's experiences are vivid and I feel I'm right there with Rose through her journey. This series of three books ends on a cliff hanger which is picked up in a 4th novela, "Eternal Dance." so now I need to continue with that one to find out what happens.
There are sprinkles of mystery here and there to keep us guessing and reading. I'm sure Essex will reveal all in time.
I did enjoy the read but it also gave me a wish list of sorts and leaves me with some questions mainly which are:
1) There is actually very little interaction between Rose and Kane. There's a lot of looking and being drawn to each other and it's obvious something greater than themselves are pulling them together but I wish we could see more substantial exchanges between the two.
2) Where the heck does Gwen go off to? She's not around much for being 1 of only 3 other employees in the place.
3) Please, no more "violently blue eyes"...give me other descriptions of Kane's eyes. lol
Despite my wishes, though, there are some wonderful moments in the books. For example, I loved this passage...completely gripped and jarred me:
"And for the first time in what seemed like forever...I felt something pricking inside of me, something growing and unfurling like a blossom opening in my heart. It was hope. It was at that moment that I saw the body in the water."
Loved that!
The novelas aren't perfect but definitely worth a read.
I sat down and read this entire trilogy one day, treating it like one long book because I honestly love Bridget's work and I couldn't wait to read a story that was this long form. Book one does a great job of introducing the Sullivan sisters, Rose, and the town. Written from her prospective and with her narration Rose plays a nice audience surrogate as an attempt on her life thrusts her head first into a world of vampires. Despite logic telling her to leave her feelings compel her to stay. Feelings for Kane Sullivan. Like magnets they're drawn to each other and they almost fully end up together by the end of the book when suddenly Kane's presumed dead ex shows up and subsequently terminates Rose's employment and sends her packing. There's a lot of raw emotions and plenty of twists and turns to be had here, which is why the moment I finished this one I leapt straight into book two.
Wow, what an amazing series! And again, Bridget has delivered a masterpiece. The beginning is very sad and I felt so sorry for Rose. Thanks to her best friend Gwen there is hope for Rose. Hope that she can let go of her lonely and painful existence. She moves and the hotel is magical and situated in a beautiful area. There everything happens and nothing seems to be what it is. Will they be torn apart forever? The characters pull you immediately but especially Kane. I fell hard for her and she is my gorgeous hero. But Mags, I hate that woman. Why is she acting like a bitch? The storyline is very well crafted. It's exciting from the start and nothing I can think of that I did not loved. I look forward to the sequel.
I’m feeling Bridget Essex books right now. Very entertaining lady-loving-lady suspenseful romance. I’m a fan of the supernatural genre so mixing in romance checks a lot of boxes for me.
