THIS IS THE FULL NOVEL AND CONTAINS EPISODES 1 - 4
C. G. Cooper is the USA TODAY and AMAZON BESTSELLING author of the CORPS JUSTICE novels, several spinoffs and a growing number of stand-alone novels.
One of his novels, CHAIN OF COMMAND, won the 2020 James Webb Award presented by the Marine Heritage Foundation for its portrayal of the United States Marine Corps in fiction. Cooper doesn't chase awards, but this one was special.
Cooper grew up on a steady diet of Dungeons & Dragons and the travels of a Navy family.
Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Foreign Affairs, Cooper was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps and went on to serve six years as an infantry officer. C. G. Cooper's final Marine duty station was in Nashville, Tennessee, where he fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle of Music City.
His first published novel, BACK TO WAR, came out of a desire to link back to his time in the Marine Corps. That novel, written as a side project, spawned many follow-on novels, several exciting spinoffs, and catapulted Cooper's career.
Cooper lives just south of Nashville with his wife, three children, and their German shorthaired pointer, Liberty, who's become a popular character in the Corps Justice novels.
Read many of the books in this series, entertaining suspenseful stories. African-American president and his family, someone or some hateful group is trying to kill first lady. Many unexplained gaps in the story. 2.5 stars.
Presidential Shift by C. G. Cooper is the perfect weekend read if you’re looking for a bit of escapism from the grind of real life. It’s the fourth book in the Corps Justice series although, given that it is the first one I’ve read, I was able to enjoy it as a standalone read. There are some references to incidents that have gone before and relationships have obviously developed throughout the series but none of this impeded on the flow of the story.
The novel is driven by political intrigue and chicanery and centres on a company called SSI which is manned by ex- service personnel. The lead character, whose father founded the company, is a former Marine named Cal Stokes and he is hired by the President to investigate corruption within the US government.
Events take a more sinister turn when two attempts are made on the First Lady’s life and Cal and his SSI colleagues become caught up in a domestic terrorist plot that leads them to a group of white supremacists. The main cast of characters are convincing and the banter between them believable. Some of the relationships had obviously been forged through events in previous novels which made me want to read more. My curiosity was particular piqued by Senator Brandon Zimmer, Stokes’ former foe who is now his good friend.
The narrative is fuelled by action with lots of twists and turns and there is a surprising twist at the end which adds an extra punch to the story. If you enjoy losing yourself in ‘24’ style adventure then this will be your kind of thing.
A very good political thriller, with great game change by the ending..
A very enjoyable story of a group of men, working for an agency protecting people and also are a black agency answering to the President. Great characters, good plot with plenty of action to keep you involved in the story! Now I plan to read the first three in this series...
It's getting harder and harder to write a review because all of these books are outstanding. I'm running out of adjectives. All I can say is read this series and find out for yourself.
Quick, light read. I didn't find the premise terribly believable. I've been binge watching West Wing lately, so I thought a book about drama in the White House would be interesting. The description is this: the VP is dead, the First Lady is injured. Someone is leaking information that is preventing the President from cleaning house. He brings in some outsiders to help. I had a few problems with the book. This is the fourth book in the series, but this is the first one I found. An acronym for the name of the company used by the outsiders was given and not explained until almost two thirds through the book. So I was left floundering trying to figure things out. In addition someone in the White House is targeted (won't say who) and we don't find out why until the end. The reason is a detail that could have been mentioned about the character earlier that wouldn't have ruined the big reveal. Having said all that, the book wasn't terrible, just sloppy. There was a pretty interesting twist at the end I didn't see coming. Not bad for a freebie.
They are trying to kill the President's wife and somebody inside the White House is sharing confidential information with the killers. Cal and his team are asked by the President to find the leak - of course, their involvement must remain unknown. However, this time, they are exposed to the public and SSI Officers are arrested by the FBI in Tennessee and questioned about the company's involvement in these attacks on the president's wife. Who is this leak and how are they gaining access to this information when only a few people on the inside know? Nobody in the White House is immune and everyone becomes a suspect. Cal and Daniel are helped by an old, crusty retired Marine on a Harley, and both men take a liking to him - keeping him alongside during their investigation which does take many twists and turns.
I found that it was hard to put this book down and finished it in a single setting. The ending caused my jaw to drop onto my chest - so many unexpected things take place within just the last few pages - I found myself exhaling a breath of relief and saying, "Damn that was good!" after reading the final word.
Great job Mr. Cooper! I have downloaded the final three books in the series and look forward to reading them. Another reviewer mentioned that each book gets better...I fully agree!
John Podlaski, author Cherries - A Vietnam War Novel
Wow, This hits home with today’s politicians, evil on both sides! The President wants to clean up Washington D.C. and get rid of the corrupt officials and politicians. He also needs to find the leak in his administration. To accomplish this he asks Cal Stokes and SSI to help him with his plan to clean up this mess. A bomb explosion has killed the Vice President and wounded the First Lady. Then A second attempt as been made on her life. As Cal and the team try to find why someone would want to kill the First Lady and who it might be thinks really start jumping. As the all of the twists and turns as the story unfolds will keep you turning pages. You will be surprised where this takes you. Join the team and enjoy the adventure. I think you will really enjoy this book, I know I did!!
Page 1, action starts and never stops. My kind of book, I love the security, covert ops thrillers. I like using my ability to read a situation but not until the very end did I know who the mastermind was with certainty, only because the author revealed it. I guessed them early on as well as some others too but without conviction.
The critics said if I like James Patterson and Robert Ludlum I would like C. G. Cooper, they're correct. I like him, better than Patterson.
You have a new fan C. I already bought the preceding 3 books, Back to War, Council of Patriots and Prime Asset, I have an inkling I will enjoy them all.
The vice president is dead... The first lady narrowly escaped... What's an embattled president to do?
Cal Stokes, former Marine and owner of Stokes Security International (SSI), has had a busy year. Trying to calm his inner demons and forget the tragic loss of his men, Cal dives headlong into his work, taking the battle to the enemy. Now the president needs his help to uncover a leak in his administration and start the long road to cleaning up Washington, and wrestling power back from corrupt officials who threaten to plunge the American government further into the abyss
I enjoyed the book. I was anxious to get back to it when I had to put it down, that's the mark of a good book. Gung ho ex-marines operating outside normal constraints with the blessing of the president, more body bags than your average political thriller and no political agenda makes for an interesting read. I would have liked it more without the final revelation, but in spite of the implausible ending, I enjoyed it.
This is the best SSI series I've. The president of the USA asked Cal's team to help him unmask corruption in Washington, DC. While in the president's office they receive news that there was a terrorist attack in the Air and Space Museum. The VP is dead snd the first lady is injured. So now Cal's team is asked to help with this as well. There sre a lot of twists and turns. The ending was a surprise.
What a book! Had me gripped from start to finish and I have to say I wasn’t expecting the climatic ending!! But I should have known better, having now read four of Cooper’s books. I’m desperately keen to start reading book 5 and that is my next stop. All I can say to fellow readers is “read this book. In fact read the series. It’s brilliant! You won’t be sorry”.
Engrossing right from the beginning till the end. President seeks help of Stokes Security International (SSI)'s Head Carl Stokes to weed out those leaking information from the White House. In the meanwhile, continuous attempts on the life of First Lady makes the situation very serious. SSI undertake their own personal investigation and the revelation is just unbelievable. Super duper thriller.
Excellent story of traitors and piloting against the government.
This is a fast paced story of people who want to see those in power fail by using any means possible to reach that goal. The author has put together a great story of how one could disrupt the workings of our leaders.
Numerous attempts on the Presidents wife. Treachery , traitors, agents tasked to protect POTUS and he's wife. Racism, is a factor, crooked self serving politicians. Covert SSI operative Cal and his team are tasked to solve the problem. Non stop action, a truly amazing read! Enjoyed immensely!
As a cbt vet I really appreciate the camaraderie between the characters, it actually makes miss that part of what I’ve lived - in a great way. Men from every walk of life all with different life experiences and men of different races bonding together as brothers in a way I don’t believe non vets could understand.
These books are just plain fun to read. They are exciting, with a lot of action by patriots who are former military. The men of SSI have a strong moral compass and aren't afraid of acting. Cooper has built a community of men with great characters. I really enjoy these books.
It's rare that you can srat out a series with a New Author from Book 1 and follow the stories as the Authoir becomes more comfortable in his story telling. I realize that CGC has been around for some time but he's new to me and I really enjoy his writing - story - style. I think he starts to break out in the 4th boook in this series.
“Always Flexible”... it’s not the Latin, JarHead Lingo! And that is what you have to be as you read this book from CG Cooper! A plot with twists and turns that keep you reading... a new JarHead added to the storyline... Neil’s toys saving the day and Daniel and Cal both shooting like “snake eyes” to finish up. Wow! Gotta go. I gotta grab the next in the series!
I'm a new fan of C.G. Cooper's writing, and I have to say I like his style. I'm reading his books out of order at the moment, yet I'm still engrossed in the story without having read the previous books in the series. I'll keep referring to it as a smooth read because I just flow from one chapter to the next, never wanting to put the book down until I reach the end.
This is the fourth book in the Corps Justice Series. I couldn't put my kindle down I just wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next sooooo looking forward to number five.
A well written thriller with larger than life characters and a Twist you won't see coming! After reading this I want to back up and read the three previous books.
Love this exciting political thriller with.a surprise ending. C.G. Cooper certainly knows how to write a "can't put this down...have to find out what happens" political thriller with surprising relevancy in today's world.
This book moves along at a fast pace with plenty of curves thrown in to keep you on your toes. Very interesting narrative, again with Cal Stokes as the hero, coming through in the end. If you are a fan of Cooper, than this is another must read.
Wow the twist and the turn this story took. You can never trust anyone except who have proven their integrity. Even the normal person can have diabolical mind.
Exciting, spellbinding and mind numbing tale of what if, what if it isn't fiction ???? Great in sight on what might be part of what is going on in the corrupt government. The names were changed ?????? Highly recommend this interesting tale....
Once I downloaded Presidential Shift I was unable to put it down. So many twists and turns I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. O hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did
Almost a modern day fantasy several people have desired for the country in which we now find ourselves living. Hard to put down once you get into the full story and an excellent job of parallel tales.
