Short, sexy and sweet—where a little love goes a long way.
That’s the best way to describe Jackie Nacht’s stories. I was introduced to M/M Romance through my sister, Stephani, and read it for years. Then, I thought it was time to put my own stories on paper. I began writing short and sweet stories that ended with a happily ever after…and sometimes more than one, in the case of my YA Fork in the Road series, which has interactive endings.
Thinking back to my own book addiction, where there were many nights I stayed up way too late so I could read just one more chapter—yeah, right—I decided to write short romances for young adults as well as adults. Hopefully, they will give high school and college students, or working men and women something they can read during their lunch hour, in between classes or just when they want to briefly get away from the daily stresses of everyday life.

Jackie Nacht is kind of a bad writer. I get what she's trying to do with these stories, and aspiring to be on par with the likes of authors like Charlie Richards shouldn't be an unattainable goal. Sadly for some (like Nacht), it is. The premise is cool, but that's about all this series has going for it. The pacing, characterization, world building, dialogue, technical writing... It's just all bad. And where Charlie Richards can usually make her stories engaging enough that you want to ignore the glaring shortcomings, Nacht just doesn't have that same knack for storytelling. Because on top of everything else, these stories are boring. Formulaic to the point of sleep-inducing.

Each pair of newly matted couple fits well into the storyline. So far I liked them all. In this four book, Oren's behaviour toward Daegal was expectedly normal, but for me, his behaviour changed to fast. But okay, for an easy, not specially complex storyline this is a fine enjoyable read.

Months after the captured wolves are saved from their weeks in captivity, they’re back at the Moon Compound with Daegal locked up and Oren, the omega who was bitten and turned sick in Full Moon Feral, is starting to feel better now that his hellhound mate is within the same facility. Fortunately for Daegal, his life is better now that he’s not a slave to the other hellhounds but he’s far from free and, in some cases, worse off than before since his newly awakened soul comes out whenever Oren is near. For Oren, he dreads his need to touch the hellhound and makes his feelings loudly known… until he gets hit upside the head with the realization that Daegal risked his own life to save the wolves but even more than that is Daegal’s willingness to teach the wolves how to fight other hellhounds. Can Oren and Daegal get past their feelings of enemies and become stronger together before another ambush makes the decision for them?

One thing I loved about this book is that we finally got to see a little of what a hellhound is and where they came from. I’m still a little confused on how they came into existence but with Daegal’s nightmares, you get a glimpse of what he’s been through at the hands of the other hellhounds. You also surprisingly learn that there are different factions and levels of the hellhounds. It broke my heart seeing what Daegal had to go through but also because of his new consciousness of what he’s done, and the guilt he now has for some of the actions he’s done, makes his recovery a bit brutal. Oren, at first, hates Daegal very much. He’s unwilling to see anything good about Daegal until several people drill into him that Daegal’s different from other hellhounds. I loved that there were several wolves that stuck up for Daegal and were willing to defend him. Oren and Daegal together are sweet and I adore the fact that Daegal has changed in more ways than one and that a new form of hellhound/wolf has been made. It was also great to see how all the previously captured wolves are doing and really hope we’ll get each of their stories soon!

I really enjoyed this one, especially because it dealt with a hellhound uncovering his soul and how that’s torture in itself. However, I still had a few niggles. Mainly, as with the others, I desperately wished it had been longer. I would have liked to explore more of the hellhounds and Oren’s past. Plus, I felt like Oren’s transformation from hating Daegal to liking him was very quick so I think a longer story would have been able to show his changing feelings slower.

In the end, I really liked the story. This series holds a lot of differing elements to it that make it fresher than the typical shifter story. The characters, while the normal alpha/omega pairing (for the most part), have some interesting developments that make it unique. I’m looking forward to seeing where the series is heading especially because the last chapter or so showed who the Elders really are and now I desperately want to see what happens next!

3.5 stars with a slow beginning (to me)
Clearly the beginning was a total drag for me to read. But once these two actually finally start coming to grips with each other, I really started getting into it. Nothing major at this point bothered me......

Except.. the Epilogue! Bothered would not be the right word.. Wanting to smack the author for leaving it in such a state! talk about piquing the interest! Want to know (like yesterday) about an Elder and some mate business. So the question now is how long before we get some answers on this new business??

Ms. Nacht continues to keep her Moon Compound series fresh and compelling with Full Moon Hellhound. In this installment, we finally get to see the aftermath of the hellhound attack from Full Moon Feral, when Oren was bitten by the hellhound Daegal. Despite the integral part Daegal played in saving the wolves held captive in Full Moon Gamma, Oren still harbors his hatred toward Daegal for biting him and for being a hellhound, and refuses to see him, even though he too is suffering from the avoidance.

Fortunately, the wolves of Moon Compound are close and care for one another and will do what needs to be done to insure the others’ health and safety – even when the hard-headed wolf in question is fighting them. As luck would have it, Oren witnessed the aftermath of his connection with Daegal and began to thaw toward him. Ms. Nacht does a wonderful job of creating situations for her characters to reexamine themselves and their potential mates without making the scenes feel contrived and she lends the same talent to Oren and Daegel’s story. As the two have the opportunity to reassess themselves and one another AND stop fighting nature’s pull between mates, they find themselves bonding quickly as enemies become mates. While their relationship is complicated by their pasts, it makes their mating that much sweeter as their shared soul becomes stronger in their union. The fact that Daegal has never known touch that was not accompanied by pain makes their physical mating intense and that much hotter as Oren shows him what it is to be touched by a loving partner and that an Omega can indeed take the lead.

Full Moon Hellhound was everything I have to come to expect from Ms. Nacht … a wonderfully written love story that takes place despite that ravages of war as the hellhound attacks worsen. Of course, she has opened the storyline further with the information revealed and hinted at in the Epilogue … there’s a traitor in their midst and so much more coming. I have already added Full Moon Torn to my “Want to Read” list as I wait impatiently for its release.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

JACKIE NACHT SHIFTER BLOG TOUR WITH INTERVIEW, GIVEAWAY & REVIEW

I have been waiting for Daegal’s story it seems FOREVER and finally, finally I got to read it. To say I’m not disappointed would be the understatement of the year. I remember saying on my review for Full Moon Lockdown (book #1) that this was exactly what I loved and craved when searching for paranormal/werewolves stories, but little did I know then the magnitude of the treasure I had in my hands lore-wise. Every book we’ve read so far in the series has been a little stone on the road to an incredibly gripping story. Each instalment focuses more on each individual couple and gives us time to get to know them, get accustomed in their abilities/roles, while the background story develops rather slowly. In the previous book we met with a cruel and raw and vicious dark side of the lore, it shocked us and gave us exactly what was needed to comprehend the villains and perhaps gave us a hint of what to expect on the upcoming war that is boiling right underneath the surface. But this book, this really is the opening scene of the main story, veiled under the lines of Daegal and Oren’s mating. A Hellhound and a Werewolf who will begin the ultimate battle between two eternal enemies; the brothers Geri and Freki...

I actually think this my favorite book in this series... Only because of the epilogue. I couldn't stomach the last one, but this was a smoother read for me.
