Was hoping to find some copycat recipes for restaurant favorites but was pretty disappointed with the overall quality of the book. Recipes don't tend to offer any real insights for actually recreating dishes, often use processed ingredients and are generally poorly written. I also worry for less experienced cooks who may try to make caramel in the Asphalt Pie recipe using the sparse instructions and wonder why they didn't use more detailed instructions like in the Caramel Apple Bread Pudding. Would recommend cooks look on the internet for these types of recipes rather than use this book.
There’s a recipe for “Sticky Fingers with Amazing Sauce” where they call for 24oz of frozen breaded chicken strips. How is this a legitimate cookbook? Who authorized this publishing? Seriously.
We all have favorite places to eat and favorite dishes from those restaurants. It was fun to see what dishes were selected to be included in this cookbook. Some from popular restaurants that most everyone would know about, and some from favorite dining locations of the authors of the cookbook. There are plenty of great recipes in here to please a wide-variety of eaters. Picky or not.
I made the mistake of reading through this one while I was hungry. Haha! Kind of like going to the grocery store when you're hungry and then you want to buy all the things! Except in this case I wanted to try all of the recipes and could taste several of them.
Some of the recipes I have made before, prior to this cookbook being released. And they were very similar to the recipes in the book. I liked the pictures that accompanied each recipe. And I liked how simple the instructions were to help any level of cook. And another thing that I really liked was the extra tips and ideas for making the recipe or making variations to the recipe.
There were also great tips about spices and seasonings and how they pair together. And other tips included in the cookbook. I thought it was very well put together and helpful in the ideas for making it your own. As well as if there aren't copycat recipes in here that you were hoping for, there are tips for you in how to go about figuring out what ingredients and how dishes are made.
This is one that I think most people could easily enjoy, from beginner to advanced cook/baker.
I received a copy from the publisher, Shadow Mountain Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Such a well-structured cookbook! The introduction is awesome and very thorough. Offering insights on how to create your own copycat recipes with tips and tricks on how to go about deciphering ingredients, etc. The book is organized as well into the standard categories (beverages, appetizers, soups, and so on). Every single recipe includes a full-page color photo and very well-written, easy-to-understand, detailed instructions. Most recipes are on a 2-page spread, but there are a few that span onto 3 pages. The ingredients in even recipe are, for the most part, common and easy to find. There are substitutions listed for some maybe less common ingredients but also tips on where to track them down. Notes are included on most recipes for any tips that might help with making/preparing/storing/etc. each recipe. The index is also organized by ingredient, recipe title, and also the restaurants/places each copycat is from. I haven't had a chance to make any of the recipes from this book, but reading through every recipe, they all seem very straight-forward to make, though probably for more intermediate to advanced cooks with several being great for beginner cooks. The included copycat recipes range from Disney to national chains to more localized places and some that I have never even heard of that must be local only to Idaho. One downside that I did notice is that there is no nutritional info available for any of the recipes. While that's not a huge detriment, for those who track macros or who have allergies/dietary needs, they will need to research that information themselves or make adjustments/substitutions accordingly. I received a digital review copy of this book, but I look forward to seeing a hard copy once it is published and would love to purchase it for myself or for gifts and then have a chance to re-create some of my favorites dishes/meals/treats included in this fun book!
***I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.***
5 stars for this book- and this is my first cookbook review. :)
This cookbook is colorful, well organized, attractive and easy to read. The photos were well done, and tempt your appetite with a single glance.
It features a wide variety of recipes inspired by your favorite restaurant foods, including some of my favorite Chick-fil-A eats!
Each of these recipes use real, wholesome ingredients rather than pre-packaged shortcut foods that lack both flavor and nutrition. I also appreciated the fact that the ingredients list was reasonable as well as affordable, and most ingredients were staples a typical home chef would already have in their pantry.
These recipes deliver on delicious gourmet flavors that you can easily cook for your family for a fraction of the cost of dining out.
Most Requested Copycat Dishes is filled with scrumptious, mouthwatering recipes that will have you reaching for this cookbook again and again.
I received a complimentary e-book copy from Shadow Mountain Publishing to review, and was not required to write a positive review. The thoughts above are my own.
I really enjoy cookbooks. Trying out new recipes that my family will love is always fun for me. Among my favorites are copycat recipes. This cookbook has many features you will appreciate:
-Gorgeous color photos that catch the eye.
-Simple, clear instructions with ingredients that are usually in my kitchen.
-Tips for creating your own copycat recipes.
-An easy-to-use index listing recipe names, ingredients, and the restaurants they come from.
-Delicious recipes I know my family will like such as Homemade Butterbeer, Pumpkin Spice Pancakes, Oriental Chicken Salad from Applebee's, and my favorite, Zuppa's Toscana soup. There are so many more I can’t wait to explore. If you enjoy cookbooks, want to explore new dishes, or love the flavors of your favorite restaurants, this cookbook is a must-have for any cook or baker in the kitchen.
This cookbook is GORGEOUS!!! I fell in love as soon as I saw it. It has lots of fun copycats, and I’ve tried a few and can tell you how delicious they are. I am definitely a fan and highly recommend this to anyone! Can’t wait to keep trying more!!
What I love most about this cookbook is the WIDE VARIETY of recipes and copycat recipes from all over the US! If you live in any region there is a good chance there is something represented from that area!
Ingredients listed are items you can easily find. Directions make sense and are clear. Full colored pictures make this a feast for the eyes too! If you love cooking I highly recommend this one!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Easy to use! The recipes included were simple to understand and the instructions were clear. If you love making copycat dishes this is a great recipe book for you!
I received an eARC from the publisher through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Most Requested Copycat Dishes is precisely as stated on the cover: a well curated collection of family friendly dishes like those from well-known restaurants. Released 1st Oct 2024 by Shadow Mountain, it's 240 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats.
These are not really the flagship dishes from haute cuisine type restaurants; they're largely casual, family style, comfort/fun foods from chain restaurants which are available over much of North America, specifically the USA. The authors have also included a primer on culinary sleuthing which will help readers to develop their own versions of beloved recipe dishes.
Recipes are arranged thematically: drinks & shakes, breakfast, appetizers & snacks, lunchtime, sauces & dressings, side dishes, main dishes, and desserts. Recipes contain a description, homage "source"/restaurant, prep time, yields, ingredients in a bullet list, and step by step directions in easy to follow language.
Recipe ingredients are listed in imperial (American) units. Most of the ingredients will be easily accessible in any well-stocked grocery store in North America. Many (many) of the recipes utilize specific brands/blends (Ocean Spray White Cran-Strawberry juice, Torani Raspberry syrup, etc) as well as convenience ingredients (frozen veggies, pre-breaded frozen chicken strips, etc). The emphasis is on convenience and speedy prep, which makes many of these perfecly suited to busy family dinner nights or potlucks.
Each chapter heading includes a breakdown of the dishes as well as the restaurants they're from. The authors/publisher have also included a cross referenced index.
The book has standout photography; every dish is accompanied by one or more well styled professional color photographs.
Four and a half stars. It's not a -huge- book (there are 101 recipes included in this collection) but it is very well written and appealing.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
The cookbook leads with "Top Ten Tips for Creating your own Copycat Recipes." which is a deep dive into solid advice to help you develop your own copycat recipes. I felt as if I was being accepted into a secret society of copycatters. There's some fantastic stuff here; don't skip it!
And there's no skimping on recipes, either. There's 101 of them and all are marvelously photographed. I found the "Lunchtime" section to be the most tempting. I'll admit it, I love me some Arby's, so I want to try the Arby's beef and cheddar recipe, along with the Arby's sauce - both with my own extra modifications to drive down the sodium and sugar.
Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to duplicate restaurant food at home. Some enjoy the challenge. Some don't live within easy reach of a favorite restaurant. Some are trying to keep the cost down. And some, like me, need to eliminate as much sodium and processed sugar as possible. I'm always on the lookout for fun foods we can make without blowing up our diets. Cooking from scratch means I can easily leave out the salt, and I can swap out the sugar for one of the many excellent substitutes now available to us.
Subway's "Homemade Footlong Bread" is definitely on my to-try list. Recently I've been attempting a copycat recipe for Jimmy John's sub buns. We miss our Jimmy John's fix. I haven't yet found a recipe that works for us yet, though - maybe we should be looking at this Subway bread solution.
Now, confess. Let's see a raise of hands from everyone who was hoping and praying for a copycat McDonald's Shamrock Shake. You're in luck - it's here!
My thanks to Favorite Family Recipes, Shadow Mountain Publishing, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
Oh my goodness, I love this new cookbook from Favorite Family Recipes! I’m a huge fan of Panda Express, Zupas, & many of the restaurant copycat recipes featured in this cookbook. I’d buy this just for the orange chicken, chow mein, & tomato basil soup alone!
I loved the beautiful photos accompanying each recipe & found that what I made looked just like the photo, which was very satisfying. The recipes featured are family favorites & tasted just as good if not better than the restaurants we go to. It’ll definitely save us money & I’ll know every ingredient that goes into the food.
Some of the things I enjoy about this cookbook are:
🍽️Colorful illustrations
🍽️Easy to follow, step by step recipes
🍽️Helpful hints to alter the recipe depending on taste & spiciness level.
🍽️Great strategies for creating your own copycat recipes.
There are over 100 recipes ranging from drinks & shakes (shamrock shakes & butter beer) to famous Costa Vida dressing to fabulous main dishes & mouthwatering desserts with everything in between. All of the recipes I tried were easy to follow & produced great results. My family seriously can’t wait for me to experiment with a new restaurant favorite recipe.
Highly recommend! I think this would be great for those with some cooking experience all the way up to experienced cooks. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
This book is less personal than most that I usually go for (I love little stories that people add into their recipes). I think that's a given considering the type of book it's being and that it's written by a group rather than a single person (although they are a family it seems?). I'm skeptical on a few of these recipes being copycats, like the Chik Fil A one for frosted lemonade seems like it wouldn't have enough flavor and the ratios are off, but I haven't tried it yet to know. I've made butterbeer as well but that recipe does seem a little closer to realistic. The food looks so good in the pictures that there are a few recipes I do want to try. I also was pleasantly surprised to discover some new restaurants in here than the typical ones i would expect for copycat recipes. Overall, if someone I knew was always trying to replicate dishes at home I would probably give this as a gift to them!
I did receive an ARC via NetGalley from the publisher for me to review this book. My opinion is still my own and is not influenced by receiving a free ARC other than just being introduced to new books.
Do you ever go to your favorite restaurant and think “I really wish I could make this at home”? This cookbook is exactly what you need. In this delightful book are 101 homemade versions of some of the most popular and favorite recipes from your favorite restaurants. It has everything from the classic fast-food favs to those fine dining meals you love. It includes things from appetizers all the way to desert. Each recipe tells us where the original idea came from. The recipes are so easy to follow, with detailed ingredients and step by step directions. The photographs are absolutely mouthwatering. They will make you want to try every single recipe. I sure do. I have already found my favorites. I was so excited for the Homemade Butterbeen inspired by Harry Potter, Copycat Shamrock Shake inspired by McDonald’s and the SLiders inspired by White Castle. This is just the beginning. The perfect gift for the at-home foodie fan in your life. I can’t wait to share with my family. Possibilities are endless. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ebook ARC and a chance to discover these amazing recipes. I can’t wait to grab a copy for our home collection.
Most Requested Copycat Dishes includes 101 recipes for drinks and shakes, breakfast, appetizers and snacks, lunchtime, sauces and dressings, side dishes, main dishes, and desserts based on food and drinks from restaurants. Each recipe includes an introduction with the restaurant it is inspired by, an ingredient list, numbered directions, prep and cook times, and a photo. I appreciate that every recipe includes a photo because I am not familiar with all the restaurants in the cookbook, so it is great to see what the dish is supposed to look like and it helps me decide if I would like to make it. Some recipes I would like to try are the Homemade Butterbeer inspired by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Queso inspired by Torchy's Tacos, Copycat Olive Garden Salad with OG Dressing, and Caramel Apple Bread Pudding inspired by Epi's Basque Restaurant. This is a fun cookbook for those looking for copycat recipes. However, there is no nutritional or dietary information for the recipes, which can be a downside for some.
Thank you NetGalley for sending this book for review.
Years ago, my husband and I ate at one of the first California Pizza Kitchens and had a pizza with such a wonderfully exotic taste that we spent years wishing we knew how to replicate it. The search has finally ended - the recipe for Thai Chicken Pizza is only one of the many glorious recipes in this beautiful book. I wasn't familiar with several of the restaurants whose recipes were copied, but they all looked so good that I would love to try them even without knowing if the taste was authentic or not. And - if I ever visit a place that has a Rios, you can be sure I'll eat there!
The recipes are well laid out and most of them easy to make, with common household ingredients and tools. The pictures make your mouth water. I look forward to getting a paper copy when this comes out! Note for those with dietary needs: there is no nutritional information.
Many thanks to Arrow Mountain Publishing and NetGalley for the chance to read this advance digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
Most Requested Copycat Dishes has over 100 recipes that are copycats of "famous" recipes. A lot of the recipes are dupes for foods offered in Utah or the western part of the US and I was not familiar with them. There were a couple that sounded interesting and I will try, but have no reference point so it will just be whether or not they are good. There are some recipes I had heard of from more major chains, but really there weren't any that were my favorites from the restaurants. I also wasn't a big fan of the ingredient lists - I know restaurant foods are generally not very healthy, but I think that one of the benefits of making them at home is substituting healthier ingredients to make them slightly better for you. The ingredient list often had pre-made items and I think it would be beneficial to make them yourself.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Most Requested Copycat Dishes is a great cookbook filled with recipes for many favorite dishes found in restaurants and eateries like McDonald's, Cafe Rio, Applebee's, Taco Bell, Starbucks and more. Inside you will find drink recipes like Frosted Lemonade from Chick-Fil-A, snacks like Lettuce Wraps from P.F. Changs, soups like Zuppa Toscana from Olive Garden, sides like Chow Mein from Panda Express, main dishes like Alice Springs Chicken from Outback Steakhouse and desserts like Chocolate Bundt Cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes. Every single recipe includes a color photo of the dish. All recipes are in imperial measurements and oven temperatures are Fahrenheit. Sadly, there are no metric measurement conversions.
The recipes are clearly described and the instructions are easy to understand. This book would be great in any library and would be fine for beginning cooks to well seasoned chefs.
We all have a favorite dish that we crave, and this gem of a cookbook has 101 of those craving dishes. This a colorful display of those favorites, along with the copycat recipe. Makes me want to make them, even if I've never have tried it before. If you turn to the back, and right inside the cover is an alphabetical list of the restaurants used and the page you can find them. Then there is an index of those recipes starting with yummy Alice Springs Chicken and ending with Zuppa Toscana and with a lot in between. I love chocolate and I found two I want to try, See's Candies Fudge and Marie Callender's Chocolate Satin Pie, but there are others! On a more savory note, the recipe for Applebee's Oriental Chicken Salad is here, along with Arby's Beef and Cheddar. You can spend hours here looking at these delicious treats/meals, and you will be quickly heading to the grocery store! I received this book through Shadow Mountain Publishing, and was not required to give a positive review.
I love this book. Though these recipes are all found online, I desperately want to buy it after my three week loan from the library because the website is so hard to navigate with all the ads. The book had an attractive picture on every page, and all of them were simple to put together. Every recipe I’ve tried have been excellent.
Animal style fries - tastes just like in-n-out! Fuji Apple Salad - crisp, fresh and filling! Pumpkin spice pancakes - felt like we were at iHop in my kitchen Pink Drink - delightfully frothy and yummy, much cheaper than Starbucks Turkey over Italy Sandwich - our new favorite sandwich. So simple and so delicious. Hawaiian chicken rice bowls - I have done a teriyaki bowl before but something about coconut milk in the rice and adding extra ingredients to a basic teriyaki sauce made this absolutely amazing Salsa - easy and yummy. Felt like the restaurant style salsa.
This is a nice cookbook with an assortment of copycat recipes from places like Disney theme parks, fast casual restaurants and fast food places. A lot of the restaurants seem to be in states like Utah and I am not familiar with them (plus tons from theme parks) but some are for places like Applebees. There are photos of every recipe but no nutritional information. They include a lot of purchased processed foods like nondairy whipped topping and they tend to be rather unhealthy but I suppose most restaurant favorites are. With our family’s dietary restrictions and my focus on healthy ingredients, I wouldn’t make most of these and they often felt like quite a lot of work, but if you miss a favorite dish from somewhere or wanted to save some money, this could be a fun way to satisfy your cravings.
I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.
The Most Requested Copycat Dishes: 101 Homemade Versions of Your Favorite Restaurant Recipes was a book I eagerly sought out to see what copycat recipes my family wanted to learn how to make. Besides finding many recipes I could not wait to try, some of the recipes shocked me when I saw what some of the ingredients were. The book is divided into the following chapters:
Drinks and Shakes
Breakfast
Appetizers and Snacks
Lunchtime
Sauces and Dressings
Side Dishes
Main Dishes
Desserts
Some of the recipes that I found to be of particular interest were: Frosted Lemonade, Homemade Frosty, Pumpkin Spice Pancakes, Queso, Chicken Enchilada Chili, Tomato Basil Soup, Copycat Arby's Sauce, Homemade Chick-fil-A sauce, Breadtwists, Cilantro Lime Rice, Homemade Animal Style Fries, Chocolate Bundt Cake, Fudge, Homemade Moose Munch Popcorn, Sugar Cookies, and Malasadas. Because of my geographical location, I wasn't familiar with all the restaurants. Despite that, all of the recipes looked delicious. Making many of the recipes is quite simple. It didn't feel like any of the recipes were overly complicated or time-consuming.
I think a lot of people will enjoy this cookbook to get a copycat of favorites. The book also gives advice on figuring out copycats for your personal fav dishes when eating out. This could be useful for those who enjoy experimenting. I always like to read through new cookbooks hoping for some recipes that will work with my dietary restrictions. Some recipes in this book are dairy free and at least one was written to use a plant based milk instead of dairy. I don't see that very often unless it is a dairy free book. The pictures looked yummy. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet. And I noted that many of these are not something I've eaten in the restaurant they were adapted from so I wouldn't be able to state if it is a good copycat or not anyway. But there are some that I would like to try.
Most Requested Copycat Dishes has many copycat recipes that help you bring family-restaurant favorites to your own kitchen. I tried the ChiChi's salsa copycat recipe. I liked that it most utilized items that I could find in our pantry. It was super easy to make and tasted delicious. I also tried the copycat recipe for Panda Express Orange Chicken. My family really enjoyed it. I also liked that it was pretty easy to make. I don't recognize all of the restaurants in the book, but most of the recipes are family-friendly and something that I can make pretty easily. I like that there was a wide range of recipes and recipes that I wanted to try. Overall, this is a recipe book that I can see using over and over again.
Please note that I received a free copy of the book to review, however, this is my honest opinion.
I received an advanced reader's copy of this from NetGalley in exchange for my honest reviews.
It was a fun cookbook to try out- I'd probably check it out again from the library and do a theme night. The kids and I made several things= the family favorite was probably the Oriental Chicken Salad. The dressing was spot on- and I cheated on the chicken fingers but everybody had seconds same night and there was none leftover so I call it a win! We also tried the egg bites and thought they were just meh= I like the instant pot version better. All in all though- we had a good time trying things out, it counted for a day of learning for our summer learning program with the library and we had yummy salad in the end!
I am always looking for new recipes to try on my family and I’ve found some good copycat recipes before so thought this cookbook was a good one to check out. While there are a wide range of copycat recipes in this cookbook, none of them are really for us. The ones that do interest me seem like they will be complicated and take longer than I’d like for a recipe. With that being said, I’m definitely going to be trying the Nothing Bundt Cake recipes in this cookbook, but most of the other recipes aren’t for me. The layout of this cookbook is nice and crisp, easy to follow, and the pictures accompanying the recipes are a nice touch. Overall, this is a good cookbook with some good recipe choices, but not many of them are for me or my family.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for gifting me a digital ARC of this wonderful cookbook by Favorite Family Recipes. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 5 stars!
I love cookbooks and can happily sit for hours looking at the pictures, drooling over descriptions, and deciding what recipes I want to make. If that sounds like you too, you need this cookbook! I love trying recipes that people have created to taste like those special restaurant treats. This one has so many that I want to try - from Nothing Bundt Cakes to Cheesecake Factory to treats from Disneyland. There are beautiful pictures and easily understood step-by-step directions. Wonderful!
This was such a fun cookbook! I love the idea of copycat dishes, though it does sometimes make it harder to eat out when I know I can make things at home! The recipes are a lovely mix of types of dishes, though as always I was drawn to the desserts. So many of the recipes are broken down very clearly and do not require crazy ingredients, which makes attempting the recipes easier. The pictures are all colorful and beautiful. I loved just flipping through the book. The ones I tried were delicious and I am definitely going to be trying more.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
This cookbook is relevant now than any other time. With restaurant prices soaring this gives the family a chance to experience food from their favorite restaurants in the comfort of their homes. Mixing and matching a menu from several restaurants in one setting without having to travel or have the expense for a family. From beverages, appetizers, sauces and main meals don't forget desserts, this cookbook has vivid photos and a recipe that will come close or even better than the restaurant. A wonderful way to experience a variety of foods/cuisines while building family time. Thank you to Netgalley, the authors and publisher for the opportunity. Now off to try some of these.
I literally devoured this book! I couldn’t bookmark recipes to try them out with my family fast enough. As a person who does not go out to eat very often, I have been a huge fan of copy cat recipes for years. Big winners for me so far have been the Homemade Frosty, Egg Bites, Guacamole, Lettuce Wraps, Zuppa Toscana, Cilantro Lime Rice, and Mushroom Chicken. The directions are clear, ingredients are accessible, and each recipe is paired with at least one photo. I am excited to try more dishes as this will be a book I will purchase for my collection. Many thanks to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.
