When Dr. Seth Coleman catches the gaze of handsome conference speaker, Carson Randall, he is intrigued. After the speech, Carson introduces himself and hands him his business card. Seth discovers the card holds more than Carson Randall’s information; on it Carson has written his room number.
For as long as Seth can remember, he has focused his attention on being a doctor. But now he has the chance to focus on his own needs. Will Seth take the safe route and socialize with his co-workers at the conference or will he accept the handsome speaker’s invitation?
Nikka Michaels lives in the rainy Pacific Northwest where she spends her time cooking, laughing and crafting romantic tales to satisfy her craving for HEAs with heat. A voracious reader, novice knitter and music lover she’s been known to multitask without breaking a sweat. She believes everyone deserves a love story.
Cobblestone's Blue line gives a pretty accurate description of what the reader should expect when opening up one of their novels from the line.
"The Blue short story line is erotica. For us, erotica is about the fulfillment of a sexual fantasy. These stories are sexy, very graphic, and are by no means a “traditional romance"."
So, if when you pick up one of the novels from this line, and you're expecting to find a romance that will sweep you off your feet, I have news.
It ain't that.
And that's okay.
Because instead, for lovers of short stories with a healthy, heavy, and hot dose of erotic content, these are probably perfect for you. Especially Room Service by Nikka Michaels.
"I wanted him to use me. Consume me. Fuck me. Ruin me."
Those short lines alone did me in. Just sayin', they did.
Seth Coleman, doctor and prodigy in his field, is at a conference, one he may not necessarily want to be at, but he is nonetheless. Carson Randall happens to be a speaker at said conference, and when one eye catches the other ... well, sparks fly.
Room Service is written in the first person perspective of the main character Seth Coleman. For some, first person might not be their thing, but I happen to love it. Get me inside one character's head, not a dozen. Also, with a story this short, writing in first person made it a heck of a lot cleaner, and there wasn't any confusion along the ride. I personally enjoy short stories. I'm busy all the time, so to be able to pick up a short story, finish it in less than an hour, and move on to something that *has* to be done, is just fine and dandy for me. So long as the author leaves me feeling fulfilled somehow. I don't care if it's the plot, or the characters, or the sex, it has to leave me feeling like it was properly finished, not hanging out in the wind with a bunch of what ifs.
Nikka did that here, exceptionally well, also.
The twist at the end (no revealing) brought a huge grin to my face, too. Not once did the author allude to that subject, and the characters literally, stayed in character. It was a nice, sweet surprise to such a hot story.
Editing-wise, style-wise, and writing-wise, the tale was also clean. Well written, I didn't happen to notice anything out of place, or incorrect formatting. I don't think I even found a typo. Thank God, nothing irks me more as a reader than something to distract me.
Five stars all the way from me.
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I stand by my opinion.*
This story is part of the Cobblestone Blue Series which is described as follows:
The Blue short story line is erotica. For us, erotica is about the fulfillment of a sexual fantasy. These stories are sexy, very graphic, and are by no means a “traditional romance”.
And as descriptions go this one is very accurate. Room Service is indeed sexy and very graphic. In fact, if this story sets the standard I would call this series ‘Red Hot’ rather than ‘Blue’.
This story describes one very sexy encounter between two men during a medical conference. Dr. Seth Coleman doesn’t know what to think when the eyes of Carson Randall meet his. Carson Randall is sexiness personified whereas Seth doesn’t see himself as anything special. But, when the two men meet after Carson’s presentation is over, it becomes clear that he has taken an interest in the young doctor. Randall’s business card with his room number on the back is a clear invitation; one Seth doesn’t need to think about for very long.
“The sexiest man in the whole building, hell the whole conference, had just invited me to his room.”
Seth has only just entered Carson’s room when he finds himself slammed into the door and instructed about safewords. Blindfolded and with his hands tied, Seth has no choice but to surrender. And surrender is exactly what he wants and needs.
“I wanted him to use me. Consume me. Fuck me. Ruin me.”
Helpless and restrained, Seth allows himself to be used and discovers the satisfaction that comes from complete submission.
“My entire existence was focused on how he took what he wanted, needed, desired.”
And just when you thought this story couldn’t get any better there’s a nice little surprise at the end to put a huge smile on your face.
I wouldn’t call myself a fan of short stories. Usually they leave me frustrated and wanting more. Room Service proved to be a delightful exception to that rule. I wouldn’t complain if anybody forced me to spend more time with Carson and Seth, but this story was perfect just the way it was; hot, exciting and extremely satisfying, both for the characters and for this reader. And, to give not only this story but also my review a happy ending; I've just discovered that there will be a sequel to this story called "Lip Service".
It is hard to believe that only six months have passed since I read ‘Chasing Matt’ the novella Nikka Michaels co-wrote with Eileen Griffin. I loved that story and have enjoyed every single word I’ve read by this author since then. To say I’m waiting with baited breath for whatever she might produce next would be a dreadful understatement. It is safe to say I found myself yet another ‘must-read’ author.

Dr. Seth Coleman is in town for a conference. Most of the time these conferences are boring even though they are providing new and updated information. Carson Randall is a speaker at the conference. Carson gives Seth his card with his hotel room number on it.
The chemistry between the two men is blistering. I enjoyed how forward Carson was with Seth. Seth seems to need a push at times. The sex scenes were steamy and bordered on graphic.
I found this book well written with stimulating and charming characters. The plot was very interesting with and ending had a great twist that I did not see coming. At 17 pages long, this book was a great read. I hope I get to see these characters again in the future.
Everyone needs a sexy little snack once in a while, right? Room Service and Lip Service, Erotic M/M Shorts by Nikka Michaels, provide just that in a compact but powerful package. To me the sign of a good short story is that I get to the end, and I want more. I do not mean that I get to the end, and I am unfulfilled; I mean I get to the end I want to know what is next for the characters. I want to know where the characters came from. I want to visit them again. Seth and Carson are two such characters. I fell in love with Seth and Carson in just a few short pages. What a cute short story but in my opinion too short. Seth and Carson are a great couple and it's a fun read. I love how an ordinary guy gets the hot dude. I love the authors work and look forward to more stories.
4.5 stars. There a few editing oddities but the writing is evocative and sexy to the point of smoldering hot. All in all, this tale delivers: Attractive guys, sensual bondage and S&M, and a sweet, sweet surprise at the end that made me smile.
