Romance novelist Janis Reams Hudson was born in California, grew up in Colorado, lived in Texas, but has called central Oklahoma home for most of her adult life. What little time she does not spend writing and researching her next book Janis spends helping other writers and volunteering her time to various writers' organizations. Janis lives in Choctaw, Oklahoma, with her husband Ron, and various cats, ducks, and sheep.

I can't remember exactly when I got the sequel to this but it was a book I loved so much that I reread it until it quite literally fell apart. This one was equally enjoyable. A few assorted minor things kept it from being perfect. 1) Carson's overuse of the phrase "ah honey" got annoying. 2) The author somewhat neglected the important women in Carson's life. I liked the little side romance of Gussy and Winter's dad but I wanted more of the relationship between carson and his daughter and young sister especially when the major things happened. 3)the character's rationale for the civil war (state's rights not slavery) really irked me and made me cringe. I liked that Carson acknowledged that owning slaves was bad but he could've acknowledged the ugly truth. On the other hand the author did not shy away from accurately portraying the devastation the white people exacted on the tribes. I loved the author's writing...she made me feel thecharacter's emotions which is true talent. SHe creates a very rich story and I devoured it. The romance was well developed and the characters were great together. I'll definitely be reading more by this author (including replacing my copy of Hunter's Touch)

I was a bit disappointed in this book. I often wonder how the rating of a book can be so high when the storyline is just average and other books the rating is low but the storyline is great. Maybe it's just me. He is heading out to his new ranch with his sister and daughter and later he meets his father's old friend. Along the way they are attacked by Indians. This encounter and eventual capture is how he becomes acquainted with the heroin. She is a half breed with a special gift of healing. One thing leads to another and they fall in love. HEA ending.
