The final book of The Wicked Kingdom trilogy is here, its title named after protagonist half-fae-half-human Arkimedes’ ability to remove fragments of people's souls (more his powers than a literal curse, unlike Book 1’s Curse of the Crow wherein he was cursed to become a crow every night).
“I’ve been yours from the moment I first laid eyes on you. Since before I understood who you were to me.”
[ Contains some spoilers ]

PLOT SUMMARY
In the world of Caztian, after Nava, Arkimedes and Devon’s escape from the Copper Kingdom in the 2nd Book, they venture to a safe home in a secret location accessed via a fountain gateway. From there, they seek answers in the house's archive (library) to consult a scrying mirror that can answer questions.

Eventually, they discover that the shadowy figure that looks like Arkimedes (and previously attacked Nava in Book 2) is the emissary of the Shadow God and, furthermore, responsible for the Zorren (demons) attacking the Beekeepers (keeper of life), which is what Nava is. Beekeepers have powers such as using nature particularly vines, transforming into pollen, dust and leaves, can read the energy from plants and glowing skin. To defeat him, they must find a magical artifact. The plot thickens with the mystery of Arkimedes’ mother, Queen Briar: who killed her and why?

This is a past-tense dual POV from the perspectives of Nava and Arkimedes (going under the alias Orion as that is his name as a prince). One chapter the Epilogue is from the POV of Devon.

OVERALL OPINIONS
Having never read the first two books (I know, I really should have read the first one, at least), I was surprised to find it was written in such a way I understood the events that had happened previously. This is done through Abbey's narrative reminding the reader of said events. It reminded me of that of Sarah J. Maas books.

Indeed, better yet, Abbey provides a very useful synopsis of the previous books at the beginning of this one. I haven’t seen this since Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. Always grateful for summaries and reminders of events.

Overall, the book had good vibes, at times amusing banter, and I loved the bond between Nava and Arkimedes. It wrapped up the story rather well, although the Epilogue gives the sense that we might see them again very soon? I hope so I'd love to see more of Devon at least.

<< Positives >>
🠚 I loved the layout. For one, having a bird feather as a section division was creative. For another, I always appreciate a map so getting several in the beginning was great. The world-building was good, any questions I had were answered there.
🠚 Kudos to Abbey for including names with meanings that make a lot of sense for the characters. This is very clever. Nava means “beauty”, Arkimedes means “master thinker/planner”, Devon means ”black”, Oberon means “royal bear” and the Corvus (the more elite form of the Crow Society) means "raven".
🠚 The style of writing was good. The spicy scenes were mild and there were a lot of detective vibes and I enjoyed the mystery elements. Added some good suspense.
🠚 I liked that in this book, all three of them get injured quite badly at some point. Provides a realistic aspect to their otherwise plot amour characterisation.

<< Negatives >>
🠚 My main issue is that, for the length of the book, there was not a great deal going on! I felt there should have been less buildup and more action. The main showdown as someone previously mentioned is later on in the book with, say, 40 pages to go, at the most. Don’t get me wrong it was good, but things dragged on too long. This meant I couldn't ease into the story as well as I'd have liked.
🠚 While a lot of aspects were clarified there were moments when I thought a character was still there and they weren’t. One such example is when Nava and Arkimedes have gone to investigate the initial Zorren attack – I thought that Devon was still with them, when in fact he is resting up at home.
🠚 Some characters just come and go without much depth to them. Examples include Leela and Eris, Leela especially disappears about halfway through. What happens to her, for example?
🠚 Some revelations felt too predictable for this one.

CHARACTERS
Nava is very sweet and has been through a lot already. Arkimedes is perfect., always very protective of Nava and we love a protective man! Aristaeus through his description reminded me of Treebeard from Tolkien's world, I like him and I like that some Greek mythology was included here as Aristaeus is the God of Beekeeping.

Devon is by far my favourite! He is amusing, crafty, wicked yet clever and as described has many flaws yet in his own way, because of helping Nava and Arkimedes with ther mission, he redeems himself. Indeed, he has the best character arc in the trilogy from what I can see.

FAV QUOTES
• Alarming, how fluidly he could transition to villainy.
• Imperfectly beautiful.
• He was ready to destroy them all. To make them pay for even dreaming that they could hurt her.
• Nava was a keeper of life and a magic-wielder, mate to the prince of the Dark Ones. She wouldn’t be caged again.
• “Jealousy drives those with weaker minds to madness.”
• This man she’d thought a monster for so long was suffering. He had many flaws, committed crimes that deserved no forgiveness, and yet against all odds, he was her friend.
• “I’m glad I got to fall in love with you two times.”

I have been so excited about this last book and it did not disappoint. Yet another Abbey Fox read that I devoured in a day. From the very beginning, we have the tension of danger, and the tension of figuring out when Arkimedes / Orion will get his freaking memories back!! The steam was there, the love was there, the plot was there. Ugh. What a great ending to this fantastic trilogy that has still left me wanting so much more because now I'm waiting for Devon's story. ;)

I received an ARC to help with final edits. The review is voluntary and my own opinion.

This is the third and final book in the upper new adult romantasy series The Wicked Kingdom. The conclusion to the series is an exciting and satisfying journey. Tropes include soulmates, a winged MMC, a sentient castle, shadow daddy, and touch her and die. There is some spice but it’s fairly infrequent and not done in great detail.

The Lovely: I love the continuation of the characters’ relationship and how they were still dealing with what happened between them in book two. They have things to sort out, which is hard to do when threats lurk around every corner. I also loved that this book kept moving - something was always happening. Thus, solid tensioning throughout the book.

The Mundane: It did feel like to me the story wrapped up too quickly for this being the final book in the series. The final “conflict” didn’t actually start until the 90% mark, and then it was done at the 94% mark. I would have liked to see there be more to it and more focus on the immediate after-effects.

Rating: 4/5 Stars 2/5 Flames

Recommendation: I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This series features a beautiful, emotion-centric romantic relationship against a backdrop of magic, secrets and curses. They’ve lost and found each other more than once and this is truly swoon-worthy, especially as the series progresses. I will miss these characters and their journey.

✨Warning! Book hangover guaranteed!✨

The Wicked Kingdom Series is an intoxicating, thrilling, page-turning tale of a prevailing love, action-packed adventure and endless plot twists.

The Series comes to an end with the latest release, The Curse of the Fallen, where Abbey Fox has masterfully woven together a romance stronger than fate, a sinister society, ancient God’s and devilish creatures. The Curse of the Fallen is captivating and guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat as you navigate through a world of mystery and unknowns rooting all along the way for Nava and Ark to find their HEA.

& although I have the biggest book hangover…Abbey you’re totally to blame 😉 I’m beyond excited to see what you’ll come up with next. Perhaps Devon would get his own book??!!

I’ve been eagerly anticipating the final book of this trilogy, and it did not disappoint!

I don’t want to give too much away for those who may be earlier on in the series (if you’ve not started them yet, you should!), but I am as invested in Nava and Arkimedes as ever!

The book has intrigue, adventure, turmoil, magic, and of course, my favourite, some swoony (and a little steamy) soulmate romance.

I adore how the author includes a catch up at the start of the book, so handy when there’s been a gap in between releases, I wish more did this.

Beautifully presented, captivating story, engaging dialogue, and infinitely likeable characters - a definite winner for me!

I love this series, the first book had me from the first sentence and the other just amazed me even more as it went on! It has action, great world building, plot twists, powerful FMC and swoon worthy MMC, spice that is 🔥 and perfectly executed, and in my opinion a very excited possibility for a new novella or series with one of my favourite villains! This is perfect for readers that love the ACOTAR and the Cruel Prince series.

Thank you to Abbey Fox for the ARC! Abbey has become a new favourite of mine too and looking forward to read more from her. I really liked her writing too!

🕯️Soulmates
🖤Touch her and 💀
🕯️Tortured hero
🖤Morally gray shadow daddy
🕯️Powerful FMC
🖤Slow burn spice (🛁🌶️)
🕯️Forced proximity
🖤Found family
🕯️Magical war
🖤Demons, spirits and pirates

I cannot recommend this series enough and every book was truly the best journey in a while and is a new favourite series of mine. Every book holds up nicely and it never was a dull moment at all. This one is quite action packed with enemies everywhere which I think is perfect for the plot, but I would have wanted a prolonged war at and a bigger end scene with more characters in the end.

I loved that the characters doesn’t read too young even in the first chapter there she is younger it’s not irritating like it can be sometimes for me, especially with too much shyness and blushing. This has the perfect balance and was just really enjoyable throughout the series.

The FMC is finally finding herself as the powerful person she is and her morally gray hero is just developed even more, blending everything he is together perfectly. I just love them together and especially love me some bathing scene 🛁🔥👀
Oh, and I can’t wait to see more of a certain best friend too, love him and everything from him in the last two books, especially the last chapter in his POV🖤🫠🔥

4 -⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I've been yours from the moment I first laid eyes on you. Since before I understood who you were to me."

The Curse of the Fallen is the third and final instalment in the new adult fantasy romance trilogy, The Wicked Kingdom. Following the harrowing events of the last book, Nava and Arkimedes are together but the journey is far from over as an ominous figures seeks to end the Beekeepers. Add in a desperate attempt to hide from the king, they must turn to the Society Crows to uncover away to stop the release of demons onto the world. Yet the threats keep mounting and the burden is heavy...will their strength in each other help stop the end or will they succumb to the darkness?

Nava and Arkimedes are a couple I absolutely adore and this book makes that very clear in their final journey. Nava is having to take on more control while Arkimedes is forced to reconcile with his pasts as he makes his path forward. I loved how their relationship is solid in this book. They are here to work together and fight for their world.

I also want to give a shout out to Devon as he continues to hold a powerful role in this series. He sarcasm and teasing helped keep me going and CANNOT wait for his own story to grow from here.

This book does contain spice but I would say maybe 1.5 spicy pepper out of 5 spicy pepper. The couple are in an established relationship but the spice isn't the core of the novel. I felt it was well timed to hight punctuate tension and movement in the relationship and it was well written.

In terms of story world - this book takes up immediately after the events of book 2 (there is a summary for those who have a gap between their reads) and runs with the action. I enjoyed the tension we get, the twists, and the turns we find ourselves in. I felt this book always had something around the corner and the build up to the final battle was carefully crafted in a way that delighted me. Be prepared for all the magic, secrets, curses, and fights! I will point out it took me a bit to wrap my head around why things were happening even with the synopsis but I was able to slowly pick things up. I also appreciated the slices of life between the characters - those sweet intimate moments in between the chaos to remind us why they are fighting won me over (I wish there were more!). That said, the ending brings together Arkimedes and Nava's story in a beautiful and meaningful way while also teasing us about Devon's and I am here for it!

Overall, an epic conclusion to this fantasy adventure that I could not put down!

Thank you Abbey for the arc!

I was fortunate enough to receive this as an ARC. Thank you to Abbey and the team.

Ok I'm going to be very honest here: I'm an idiot. I genuinely thought I had read the second book of this trilogy, and even though the author kindly provides a summary of the journey so far at the start of this book, I proudly skipped through that because I naively thought I knew it all. Upon my realisation, I was so thankful for the short summary but am kicking myself for diving into this without experiencing the entire ride.

So here we go.

After escaping the castle where Arkimedes' memory was altered and Nava was nearly killed by an Ark-lookalike demon, Ark, Nava and newly enemy turned comrade Devon find shelter in a safe house. The trio establish that the Ark-twin is immortal, and must work together to find artefacts that can defeat the enemy, but not without near death experiences. In doing so, they uncover the truth behind Ark's family ties and the mysterious Ark twin, and venture on a quest to destroy him before he torches the forrest and kingdom.

Nava and Ark are also confronted by the ghost of Ark's deceased mother, and let me be the first to tell you that jesus lordy those scenes scared the pants off me. This whole book is much darker than the rest of the series, and I'm not going to admit how many nights I was too scared to go to sleep in case ghost mummy haunted me.

Anyway, there are parts in the story that seemed to be insignificant to the plot, but they weave into the story and become important later, which I always appreciate.

For me, this had the perfect balance of fantasy, romance, a little political flare and tension. I also liked the tension of never knowing which characters to trust (and maybe I still don't trust Devon).

There are so many elements and layers to this book and series that I know I'll be rereading multiple times to fully appreciate. Overall, an amazing ending to a trilogy for an indie author!

Reading this third installment of the Wicked Kingdom series felt a little like coming home. I devoured the first 2 books and was so looking forward to this one. It felt good to be back with Nava, Ark/Orion, and Devon.

In this installment our three main characters start out on the run, having just escaped from the King and his castle. Arkimedes is still Orion, though he is slowly getting back his memories.

I enjoyed reading as Nava and Ark slowly get to know one another again and find comfort in their bond and proximity. I have also enjoyed - between books 2 and 3- watching Devon, the enemy, become Devon, the friend. I guess it didn’t initially register how close Devon and Ark were when they were growing up and then when they eventually became a pair of the best Crow fighters.

This book takes us on a journey through some of the Beekeeper history, and sees Ark conflicted over his father’s past atrocities and his current weakened state of illness— how much longer will the King rule? What will Ark and Nava do if/when the King is gone? It also sees Devon badly hurt and struggling to stay alive, even with the help of healing potions. All three are trying to work to stop a dark enemy from opening portals and destroying the forests— a dark enemy who looks just like one of them! Ark has to confront the truth of what happened to his mother, the Queen, and do whatever he can to stop this “impostor” from destroying their world.

This one took me longer to read . I actually received it as an ARC but life happened - multiple times- and I didn’t get to finish or review it on time. So the length of my reading time had nothing to do with the quality of the book!

I have fallen in love with this series. The characters and world building are just so good! The first book holds a special place in my heart since it introduced me to this world. And I think the second was even better!! This third book moves the story along well, and has left me wanting even more.

This was my favorite book in the series! I really enjoyed the descriptions of the scenery, the magic manifesting and being used, and the creatures and demons described in the story. Some imagery was dark and spooky and I couldn’t help but think how awesome these scenes and monsters would look in a movie/show. The demons gave me The Witcher monsters vibes. 😳

One of my complaints about the previous book was the lack of communication between the characters and that was not present in this one at all. 🙌🏼 I grew to love their relationship, communication, and their soulmate bond. 💜 Their chemistry and the spice was well done. The spice was mild (not super explicit) and focused more on emotions and connections.

I was a little disappointed with how quickly the ending seemed to wrap. Everything was leading up to a final battle with their foe and before I knew it, it was over. After the battle, I think I wanted a little more emotion during the healing process. (I’m trying to be vague so I don’t spoil anything.)

However, I did enjoy the mixed emotions the MMC felt about it all in the end. His emotions were complex and I loved reading his POV- it was my favorite. Loved Arkimedes so much!

I also really enjoyed the epilogue! It was unexpected and I was happy to learn what became of that side character as I grew to like him as the series progressed.

I recommend this series if you enjoy:
✨Winged shadow wielding MMC
✨Strong, brave, and quirky FMC
✨unique magic system and creatures
✨soulmates/ fated mates
✨complicated relationships and emotions
✨slow burn romance with mild spice (open door but not explicit- more focused on emotions and connection)

I think that of all the books where there are soulmates, it is one of my favorites because of the characteristics of the bond and the struggle over what it means to accept or have it. The relationship between Nava and Ark is 10/10, especially now that the miscommunication is over and they are working together to resolve everything.

Nava has to take more responsibility and grow a lot, while Ark has to accept his past and reconcile it with his present. I love that in this book Ari is more present and we explore his story a little too. I really wanted to know more about the sentient castle..

I feel that the first part of the book seemed a little long, they are fugitives and the whole part of hiding and thinking about possible situations that later led to nothing was a little slow... On the other hand, the final conflict starts and ends too fast, I was left wanting more. Despite the problem I had with the pacing of the book, I feel like the ending is perfect and I'm going to miss Nava and Ark soooo much!

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book, thank you Abbey and team for the great opportunity!

The Curse of the Fallen book three brings the trilogy to its conclusion with more action-adventure, magic, intrigue, and sinister plotting littering the path to happiness for soul mates Arkimedes and Nava.
The author does a good job of keeping the reader invested in the outcome of their story, and if you have been on the journey from the beginning you won’t be disappointed.
Enemies abound, secrets will be revealed, sacrifices must be made, heartache must yet be borne but through it all love will always find its way.
The writing is both captivating, and engaging as it pulls all the threads together in a tightly woven tapestry of persistently riveting prose, and mesmerizing storytelling that will charm as well as thrill as the curtain on this wonderful fantasy slowly draws to a close.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a great ending to a series and Abbey should be congratuled for not only tying up any lose ends but also leaving the reader satisfied and happy for the characters.

I feel the imagery really ramped up in this book and the world came to life before my eyes, with some wonderful and sometimes creepy settings. There were a few instances where my body physically reacted to the spook factor, so well done!

I was happy with how Nava and Ark's love story was resolved and they are a lovely couple but my favourite character in this had to be Devon and I LOVED his ARC over all three books... and the epilogue....um.... write that now please.....!!!!

This was such a fun trilogy to read. I anticipated the soulmate trope to be predictable but the plot had me interested in each book! Nava’s character has great development. I would have loved a more detailed ending but I am hoping we get a Devon book soon!! His character became really interesting in this final book!

I wasn’t able to finish the book. I felt like the story always trying to follow too many plot lines and nothing added up for me. The writing could have been more descriptive too. I felt like I was constantly missing a page from my book because there was lacking information. I think if there was one main goal and not several for the whole series, and that plot was flushed out more, the series would have been much better for me.

This was a pretty satisfying conclusion to the story. It was fast paced, action-packed and had some fun banter to go with it.

It was dragging a bit in the middle, though. At the same time, some things were happening almost instantaneously, to the point they were more told than shown, especially when it comes to forming relationships and those emotional connections within them.

Still, I had fun and if there ever came Devon’s story, I’d read it!

The culmination of Nava and Ark’s story did not disappoint! I loved the adventure, the story and the characters. The way all of the different strands from the previous books weaved together so beautifully, without it being forced into neat little bow, was awesome.

I really enjoyed the whole book, there certainly wasn’t a soggy middle in this story, it was action packed throughout whilst still maintaining the characters core values and their love story.

A great fantasy romance read!

You know those books that you wish you could literally dive into headfirst because you don't want to have to leave the characters and the story and the world? The books where, despite the happy ending, turning the last page and seeing the acknowledgements breaks your heart? These are those books for me. Nava and Ark are everything, and the journey they go one from book one all the way through three is so impeccably done. And as a Devon myself, I am beside myself to know what happens to one Mr. Black, and I will be begging at Abbey's feet for a scrap of info on my favorite dastardly boy.
