Treachery has made Bishop an outlaw and rocked the Alliance to its foundation. Forced into exile while his friends strive to clear his name, Bishop and his family encounter the best and worst mankind has to offer while they travel the badlands. The human animal is trying to regroup, striving to fill the vacuum in leadership left after the collapse and form productive societies. But it’s not easy. The lack of basic necessities has weakened the resolve of many, allowing age-old tendencies to cloud the minds of men. Those that do step up and take the helm of governance may have alternative motives and hidden agendas. Follow the adventures of Bishop, Terri, and Hunter as they seek refuge, trying to survive while their friends uncover the truth and keep the Alliance whole.
Joe Nobody (pen name for the author who wishes to keep his identity confidential) has provided systems, consulting and training for the U.S. Army, Department of Homeland Security, Office of Naval Research, United States Border Patrol as well as several private firms and government agencies which cannot be disclosed. He is currently active in this area and for the security of his family and ongoing business, wishes to remain anonymous.
He has over 30 years of competitive shooting experience, including IPSC, NRA, and other related organizations. He has been a firearms instructor and consultant for over 30 years and holds the rights to a United States Patent for a firearms modification.
Joe initially became involved in helping private citizens "prepare" at the request of his students and clients. A conscientious instructor, he would always inquire as to why they wanted to learn certain skills or techniques and often the response was to prepare for more than just simple home invasion or self-defense. If you ask Joe what his greatest attribute is, he will tell you he is a "problem solver" and uses his formal education in Systems Engineering to this end.
"As the economy worsens, world tensions rise, and the modern media propagates bad news faster than ever before, more and more people want to prepare. I wrote HOLDING because it allows me to reach more of the good folks who are concerned about their security. I want them to sleep better at night knowing they have a plan of defense should the 'Event' ever occur."
This appears to be the final installment of the HOLDING THEIR OWN series. And I was not disappointed. Bishop is once again being who is, a man ready to do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of his family. Having been wrongly accused of a heinous crime with evidence carefully crafted to make him look guilty, he finds the only thing to do is to leave his home and friends behind until he can find a way to clear his name. And with such massive 'proof', even the once grateful citizens of Alpha are doubting him. Although his true friends do not believe the lies staying would place them in further danger. Diane and Nick defend him but she must now deal with Washington who is demanding Bishop be handed over or any negotiations between them is off the table. The Alliance is ready to crumble and the military is in bad shape. But Bishop and Terri soon learn that the danger is not only behind them, it is in front of them as well. While he makes his way through the badlands of New Mexico, he comes across those that are fortunate they met him and those that curse him. In the meantime, Nick and an old friend have decided to join forces to clear Bishop's name, but the danger they face comes from an expected source with a little too much power and a lot of fanaticism. How they proceed will decide not just Bishop's fate but that of a floundering nation that is quickly loosing it's hold on all fronts. If you are looking for good post apocalyptic series,(no zombies, mutants or aliens here)this is one I highly recommend. The dangers of a society that has lost everything is clearly defined in the series as humanity tries to fend for it's self and all vestiges of civilization is torn away. What is left behind is far more terrifying. Joe Nobody has captured the essence of a post apocalyptic world with all its dangers and frightening outcome as mankind tries to rebuild.
Fantastic realistic post apocalyptic America wreatles with survival. i love the settung from West Texas to Memphis to New Mexico and even Washington where gasoline is not readily available and hoodlums are on the loose. I couldn't put it down!
Honestly speaking JOe is one of the better SHTF authors that I have found in a long time. Most of them are, in my not so humble opinion, a waste of time and money. With the advent of ePublishing these days, the quality of what we are seeing has dropped. Not so in Joe's case.
