I saw the bright lights of the UFO and then it took me.
I was kept in a cage, then I sold.
My story is like many other humans adrift in the galaxy.
If only people on Earth knew…
But it’s too terrible, no one would believe us.

DNF after the first few chapters. This was NOT for me. The book starts with a violent attempted rape of the female lead and it just gets worse from there. The heroine is purchased as a "discount pet" by a grey alien and dehumanized, beaten, muzzled and assaulted so she can be entered in some sort of human pet competition. It's so bad that the other female with her commits suicide rather than live through the situation .The "hero" is a dick who treats her like an animal (he's basically a dog trainer, but for humans) but also sexually assaults and uses her for pleasure.... BARF.

Look, I get pet play and that can be hot, but this was just exploitation and gross IMO

I think this might by the most unique and unpredictable book I’ve ever read. I legit had no idea what was coming and was SHOCKED way more than I expected. I give the author allll the credit for creating this universe, these characters, these race dynamics, the shock and horror of the treatment of the human, but sheesh I was NOT prepared for how this book made me feel and I don’t know if I liked it or not? I finished it and I’m sitting here feeling sick and horrified and also happy for the main characters and hopeful for their future… but still sick to my stomach? The Stockholm syndrome really did me in tbh, can’t get over it.

I had high hopes for this book, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations. While the first book was so bad it was funny, this one didn’t even have that redeeming quality—it just felt uncomfortable.

There was no afterword this time, which I actually found to be a blessing. The author's note, however, still had that condescending tone that assumes readers are too slow to understand her work. The need to explain the French thing was weird, especially when the character explained it in the book. It just felt unnecessary.

What really soured the experience for me was the treatment of sensitive topics (I had the same issue with the first book). The way assault and sexual violence were handled was not just distasteful but inexcusable. It was uncomfortable, and the lack of reflection on those things made it even worse.

I don’t think I’ll be continuing with the series. Especially now that they are getting longer.

Audiobook (Audible) ARC - what an interesting alien kidnapping story. Briar is picked up while hiking by octopus like aliens and sold at an auction after biting another kidnapped victims dick off as he tried to sexually assault her. She is sold as a wild pet to Aefre who was looking for a show pet (think show dogs) for an upcoming competition. As the new owner, Aefre feels it necessary to rename his 'pet' and calls her Ash. This competition is for a pair of human pets and how well they work together with their master along with presentation and how responsible their bodies are to their master. Briar is paired up with Gabriel who Aefre has renamed to Ember. The aliens seem to believe that pets learn best with pleasure rewards which leads to a lot of spicy scenes. As these two work closely and Aefre tries to build a forced romantic bond, they develop a real bond and look to win both the competition and their freedom from the pet enslavement.

The story flows quite well, though some of Briar's thoughts can get a bit repetitive. The world and political building is great and blended in smoothly for the most part as the 3 main characters and POV's discover/bring up the subjects. The spicy times seem to be mixed in well and do not seem to detract from the overall plot and help to build the characters feelings and bonds to each other helping the story along.

For the most part, the narration is great between the 3 talented actors. Each narrator keeps consistent tones for the different characters making it easy to determine who is speaking when. There is one side character in chapter 41 Cresh of Narra whose whispery seductive voice is super low and hard to hear with the same volume settings as the rest of the audio. I did have to rewind and turn the volume almost to max to understand what her spoken parts are. Outside of that small section, the book was brilliantly performed.

They took her name. They trained her body. But they couldn’t break her will.

Briar never expected a solo hike to end in abduction. Ripped from Earth and thrust into a galaxy where humans are trained and displayed as pets, she quickly learns that survival is more than enduring pain and pleasure. It means remembering who she is when everything else is stripped away.

On the Luminous Arc, she’s renamed Ash and forced into a world of obedience and spectacle. Gabriel, a seasoned pet broken down by twelve years of training, isn’t sure freedom is even possible, until Briar reignites the idea.

Their bond begins in secret and grows against every effort to erase them. Together, they face brutal training, forced intimacy, and a society built on control. As alien trainer Aefre shapes them into competitors for the Grand Championships, they begin reclaiming their intimacy and identities.

Love doesn’t fix them. It becomes survival, something real in a world that isn’t. From cages to Haven, Briar and Gabriel confront the long-term effects of captivity with raw honesty and steady resilience.

The escape is only the beginning. They build a life rooted in freedom and choice. Some scars remain, and their love sometimes revisits old dynamics, but now it's always on their terms. In a world that tried to own them, they rewrite everything.

Briar begins with raw resistance, which left a lasting mark on Big. She refuses to be reshaped, evolving from sheer defiance to sharp, deliberate survival.

Gabriel starts from deep conditioning, where obedience feels like safety. His love for Briar reawakens his autonomy, becoming his turning point. ‍

Their relationship grows from shared trauma. It’s messy and real. They comfort, protect, and sometimes hurt each other while figuring out what’s been trained and what’s truly theirs.

Aefre isn’t a one-note villain. His control is obsessive, sometimes caring, always rooted in power. When they choose each other, he isn’t just angry, he’s shattered by what he never truly understood.

A dark, emotional sci-fi romance exploring love, captivity, identity, and power. Themes of pet play, alien abduction, dystopia, trauma, intimacy, and survival are woven through a story of resistance and slow healing. It’s not about instant redemption, but about what’s reclaimed through love and choice. Love seeing Gael back.

Narrators Vivienne Ferrari, James Ford, and Marcel Gauthey bring the characters to life with emotional range and clarity. The multi-narrator format adds richness and makes the story even more immersive. Solid audio quality with no issues.

This isn’t a romance. The cover is deceiving or maybe that’s just me. Either way, I really should have done a little research before diving in.

I didn’t find any trigger or content warnings and that’s the biggest issue that I have with this story. I just went back and double checked, there is nothing.

This story deals with human trafficking topics, rape, coercion, manipulation, substance abuse, death, pregnancy, captivity, body modification against a person’s will, dehumanizing behavior and actions, suicide.

I will repeat THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE. This isn’t a DARK ROMANCE. The story was meant to bring attention to human trafficking, and how the erasure of people happens with dehumanizing and degrading tactics, in a very fictional way.

It’s meant to cause discomfort, it’s meant to make you feel gross, it’s meant to shock, it’s meant to spark a conversation. The most important parts of this book and topics didn’t happen in the story for me, they happened in the authors notes, where they explain their story, their intention, and they cite sources, historical events, etc.

The characters, Briar and Gabriel go through absolute hell during their captivity. Gabriel has been held in captivity for over two decades if I read that correctly. The two are used as pets and entered into life and death competitions. They are coerced into thinking themselves in love with each other. I wasn’t convinced they were. The two are raped by their “masters” who thinks of them as nothing more than animals with no thoughts or emotions. And then manipulated and coerced into being intimate with each other. It’s sickening and disturbing.

Why did I rate it 2 stars? Because the story doesn’t come with a warning that it graphically deals with the heavy topics it does. If it had maybe I would have been better prepared to deal with its content instead of the aftermath. Maybe I also wouldn’t have been so confused about the genre. It reads like erotic science fiction. Maybe a little on the glamorizing side too. Like I said at the start I could have done a little more research but upon the cover alone the assumption is pretty clear to me. I can only hope that this review will help some other reader make an informed decision about this story.

This one I debated a lot on the rating. I was gonna put 2⭐ because of technical reasons, but the subject and the risks the author take are worthy of another star. What that means is that IF properly edited and worked a little longer on developing some aspects, this would be a solid 4 ⭐

All was going in the right direction, bad people is bad, SA is SA, no CNC (until it turns in CNC, kinda), and she's in the right frame of mind mostly (survivor mode, childhood trauma that "helps" her adapt faster to the environment), mind control and phycological conditioning.
On paper, that's amazing, but sadly is not well written.
Some aspects as I said are glossed over too quickly and rushed, like the first scene she's groped... Apparently a couple of minutes of several strangers DISPATIONETLY and MECHANICALY touching her boobs are enough to turn her into a sex driven almost mindless being, and that's just not it. the way i rolled my eyes I was afraid they would get stucked in the back of my head.
Then there's the problem of repetitiveness. The doctor repeats the same phrase like 5 times in 2 chapters, an 3 of those are on the same scene, granted, 1 was thought by another character, but is still annoying as F. The same-actual-phrase, word for word.
I felt like I was reading fanfiction, as in the first steps of someone practicing their craft, not a proofed, edited and published work.

And it's a shame, because the subject is really impressive. Not many have the guts to explore S-slave conditioning, supremacy mentality and the complex dynamics that all of this involve

If getting an editor is not possible, at least please get someone honest and unafraid to point this kind of problems.

Ok

Read the first one, saw all the symbolism, and was a little leary, but ok with it. This one all I can say is that the Imperials are stupidest, blindest, clueless, most barbaric creatures in any universe and the nicest thing would be to save their young from the stupidity of the adults.

Some typos which one expects when the proofreader isn't proofing. Story line wasn't to my taste but somewhat well written and definitely fantasy.

Briar and Gabriel are decent characters, Fall in love while training for a life or death event as human pets by individuals that believe humans are pets interested in sexual activity with everyone all the time and that humans are not very intelligent. Ok that one can be argued for or against🙂.

Control is maintained by edging the "pets", giving treats for good behavior, and electric shocks of different intensity.. Given stupid names, no privacy, and clothing that encourages sexual PDA. Freedom is a dream.

However, they obtain it and learn to survive it. So although I wasn't thrilled with the storyline I enjoyed it and will probably read the next installment.

I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. A dark romance that began with abduction and led to being purchased and kept in captivity as a pet and trained for alien entertainment. I loved both Briar- renamed Ash- and Gabriel. I was fascinated, and disturbed, by the journey the heroine is on and the social dynamics of where she ends up. It was interesting seeing through the points of view of the other characters. I've always been captivated by humans treated like pets in alien romance because the aliens don't know any better and don't view them as an equally sentient species. The story had suspense, danger, and action and I was hooked. I listened to this on audiobook and thought all three narrators did a great job of bringing this story to life. This is my first book by this author and I definitely want more in this series.

Overall: 5 stars
Performance: 5 stars
Story: 5 stars

The blurb and idea of this book sounded interesting, and I had high hopes, but unfortunately, this didn’t live up to my expectations. I also didn’t enjoy the writing style and found it clunky and awkward at times, especially during the spicy scenes (I know they were supposed to be "cold and clinical," but for me, the writing just felt awkward).

I almost DNF’d this so many times but decided to push through, and honestly, I should have just DNF’d.

Check the TW/CW before reading!

This story is horrifying from start to finish.
I DNFed.
It is just unimaginable that a highly intelligent species does not reflect upon their morals and actions regarding the pets that belong to a species of individuals that can become "fully sentient" , learn their language, look almost exactly like them, which they can produce offspring with and which show the same emotions as them.
The FMC's behavior did not reflect her situation at all.

It’s got some graphic elements…

without any patina of romance. I don’t mind smut however these spicy scenes aren’t written in a titillating way; it’s more trauma p*rn.

If you’re interested in a sci fi story of Stockholm Syndrome from multiple POVs of two show dog type “pets” and their alien owner, you might like this.

It has a happy ending but it’s a rough road getting there.

Loved the narration from Vivienne Ferrari, James Ford, Marcel Gauthey

Lots going on, the story is told from different points of views, pet trainer, the female pet, and the male pet. We learn the aliens’ demands that push humans to their limits. Briar is submissive to her trainer and an equal lover to her partner, Gabriel.

Unique, dark, thrilling, thought-provoking

Olympia has an understanding of human nature and she uses aliens to depict the worst of humanity. She also understands human triumph and what is needed to overcome trauma. I couldn’t put this book down, I had to know what happens next it did not disappoint. I loved the characters, the allegories to our own depraved histories, and I loved the ending.

holy typos, Batman

The story is great and Olympia Black is the first author of alien dark romance I’ve ever read. But the typos in this can be distracting at times. These are things that could have easily been spotted during editing, beta reading, etc. But it feels like Olympia’s books are super rushed to be published. Super disappointing to have such an amazing story/universe ruined by typos…

I like how deep this book went into the psychological aspect of living as a “show pet” would make you. How lost and broken she must have felt. Exploring those aspects in this book made me connect more with the FMC than I did in the first book. I love how dark Olympias books are. How UN-candy coated her worlds are. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A strong statement

I enjoy a bit of spice, but more than anything I enjoy books that provide varying view points and examine flaws. It is amazing what a small glimpse into another world can make you feel and what emotions it can provoke. A good read, that fortunately ended with healing for some of the characters, remembrance and appreciation for others.

This was a difficult book to read. Many times I wanted to leave it. I finished it but it has left a taint in my mouth and worse, my mind. It strived to make the "pet situation" normal but it felt anything but that. It will take me a while to cleanse it from my mind. Needless to say,I will not continue with the series.

This was pet play to the extreme.
I didn’t have an issue with the content per se, but the spicy scenes were awkward and clinical in their narration and the book had a lot of errors (including mixing up the name of the main character) which really frustrated me while reading.

not the standard book for alien romance

Twists and turns and yet there is heart and healing. Can’t say much more but check your triggers as this is a rough ride. Not for the faint hearted. But very good.

What a book. Makes you almost jealous of the women. But then you remember. It all women have the perfect body/fitness level. Most of us would be left in limbo. Would be nice if real women could reach the kind of love the pretty girls get lol.

Eceptional story telling

The events are all fictional, they are based in actual human practices at one time or another. A book to be read on thoroughly.

Wow this book was shockingly good. I rate it a 4.5 out of 5 and here’s why:
The author really thought out these characters and the story line. I especially loved how the author explains each concept displayed in the book and the symbolism behind it (explained after the epilogue). Honestly brought me to tears to read the inspiration behind this fantasy book.
Well done 🥹❤️‍🩹

My Wild Pet intentionally pushes the boundaries of logic and morality by showing an advanced but hypocritical alien race, much like we've seen in real human histories where oppressors justified enslaving people they knew were just as human as themselves.

This three-POV romance told through the eyes of an alien show-pet trainer, a French human male pet, and a human woman stays true to Olympia Black’s signature style and world-building from My Human Pet. However, unlike the first book, this one dives deeper into the psychological toll of living as a ‘show’ pet, revealing how aliens’ bizarre demands can push humans to their limits. The FMC is put in an unusual position with two men, a submissive to her trainer and an equal lover to her partner, Gabriel. As usual, Black doesn’t shy away from the more unsettling facets of the human condition.

That said, the ending here is far more satisfying than its predecessor’s.

As a French speaker, I especially appreciated Black’s accuracy in crafting Gabriel’s backstory: abducted at sixteen, his English naturally falls short of perfect, and he studied Spanish (instead of German) just to annoy his parents. These small but thoughtful details lend an extra layer of realism to the alien pet scenario. Overall, this is a fresh, compelling spin on sci-fi romance, and I’d call it a must-read for fans of the genre.

PS. I especially enjoy Ms. Black's inspiration and historical facts from which she draws her stories that she always includes in her books. And she is not wrong. Throughout human history when two civilizations have met and one has less technology the one with less has always been treated as less than human. It's amazing to me that most American people don't know that or know what they did to black people during the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
