We all love Shane Ryan. However, to love Shane is to also love Carl. Carl is one of the mainstays in the Shane Ryan series, but yet, we only have snippets from his past, before he became a ghost trapped in the house on Berkeley Street. In this first ever release from Scare Street, we are getting an inside look into Carl. There are several delightful shorts that will give you a more in-depth, and deeper appreciation for who Carl is, and or, was. In these shorts, we will see back into parts of Carl's life before he became a ghost. See a deeper look into his time stuck in the dark, waiting to die. And some of the "walks" that he takes away from the house. I could not stop listening to this one!
For our Shane Ryan devotees, you will not be disappointed with these stories. For those who have not yet been introduced to these series, well, here is your chance to get to know one of the permanent fixtures of 24 Berkeley Street.
Carl is one of my favorite "secondary" characters in the lengthy Shane Ryan series. Almost always calm and unruffled, Carl was an early 20th century German citizen, who is unfortunately deceased. I'm not quite sure how he "migrated" to Shane Ryan's childhood home in Nashua, New Hampshire ; but he has benefited Shane immensely, and helps keep the other ghosts in the household moderate and fairly calm [and also keeps a wary eye on those in the cellar]. So I'm delighted to read a collection of short stories expanding our acquaintance with Carl, and "discovering" some of his secrets.
I frigging LOVE IT! It's really cool getting to read a bunch of back stories about one of my favorite characters and learning some of what makes him tick! There's only one thing about the whole book that I didn't like and that's that the stories weren't all told in order. But it doesn't change the fact that it's extremely well written and fabulous characters! I definitely recommend this book as well as anything else written by Ron Ripley & Scare Street!
I definitely had a blast following along with the narration . The narrator did an exceptional job narrating all these awesome characters .All the short stories featuring Carl and others were definitely spine tingling and chilling. A few made me do double takes over my shoulder that’s how good this book was.
I absolutely loved this collection of stories. Carl has been one of my favorite Scare Street characters since I first met him in the Berkley Street series. We have gotten snippets of his story all along but this book delves much deeper into his early life and even his death. This is a quick read, around 80 pages, but it is satisfying in its depth. This looks to be the first of a new series for Scare Street. If the rest of them are as good as this one, we are indeed in for a treat.
I was lucky enough to have gotten a ARC copy of this book from Scare Street. I am volunteering to leave this review. Loved this book getting more insight into Carl.
