There’s a new player in the great game, and the Elders edicts hold no sway over them…Steve and the team hold the ship but only for now. Yet the world is swiftly waking to the new reality, the vultures are circling, and keeping the ship looks to be at least as hard as taking it ever was.Time is never on Steve’s side, but the knowledge that he agreed to present himself before the only faction he’s not at war with, and the Elders have no patience for delays, only add to his stress. He’s out of time, out of tricks, and patience? That’s a luxury long gone. But while Steve might be running low on many things, his reservoir of brutality is far from dry. Good thing too, because one of the god-like creators has cast her ominous gaze on him now, and as far as she’s concerned, he and all his kind are vermin. What will the vermin do, when the exterminators are called?
Great story, great world building I do not see how the author is going to wrap it up in the next and final book.
Love the story even though the MC is crude and crass he is likable. That’s plenty of whirl building and great character development. The only issue I have is that the MC Steve can’t fight his way out of a paper bag. Just because you’re immortal and you can die doesn’t mean you should. Don’t particularly care for a lot of authors, using their MC as meat shield. I guess the author wrote it that way, because if it isn’t for Ingrid, I don’t know where Steve would be. Love that character. Like I said, all the other supporting characters are great, don’t know how the author is going to wrap this up in the next and last book, there are a lot of story threads Dangling out there. I will be eagerly awaiting that next book, in fact, I might have to go read it on Patreon. That’s how good I believe the series is.
wow!!! what a great LitRPG/Urban Fantasy/Sci-Fi Novel!
Thank you Jez! You did it again! Amazing! This book is just as good as the rest of the Arise series. Combing the genres of LitRPG, Urban Fantasy, and Sci-Fi in a new unique twist, this story deepens the plots, tying myths and old legends together in a new explanation, while offering us more insight into these amazing characters and how they deal with the violence and atrocities they’ve been put through. Some of the MC’s deep thoughts about his purpose and how to deal with trauma offers an analogy we can all relate to in ways. Highly recommended! Read this novel, but read the first Arise books before this one, duh.
Steve is building a family and a faction, this creator is going to destroy it all
Another exciting arc in Steve’s story has one of humanity’s creators front and center as Steve pisses her off enough to awaken her. She relocates before Steve and his crew can reach her, causing more problems as a traitor strikes killing some of the Elders. Will Steve and his team be able to save the elders from their betrayer? And how many elders will Steve have to kill to make a point? Or maybe you want to read about some new tech toys? Well this book has it as humans are biological weapon variants from an ancient war that is still ongoing off planet.
Cajiao has done it again as this is most definitely the best book yet. Without spoilers, the Elders and Creators are in play now, and we see so much more behind the scenes. The world building and the characters just keep getting even more exciting, and with so many other possibilities, this is my favourite book of the past year. The kick ass action makes this the must read series yet.
A fun and exciting space fantasy? Science fantasy?
So far this has been a fun series to read. Has good pacing and interesting characters and lots of fun, twists and turns. I have to say I've been enjoying it. The reason I can't give it five stars is its fundamental schizophrenia. It presents like it should be science fiction- replacing magic with technology. But it's really not. It's pure fantasy, wrapped in a sciency veneer. Once I accepted that, I enjoyed it. 😊
Deep characters, fast paced action, and continually expanding storyline. Once you start, book is hard to put down. I could do it a little less, cursing from the MC, but watching how he overcomes each challenge, bringing his team close to him and using them for their strengths to win over and over again is what makes the story a good literary RPG. I also like the fact that the story has sci-fi, aliens, spaceships, and fantasy fiction.
Another enjoyable tale in this series. I love the action and thoughtful rants from the main character. The only problem I had was the misspelling or wrong word usage either from autocorrect or dictation I’m guessing. Otherwise I always enjoy Jez’s work. Keep it up.
These books have definitely gotten better. The MC is acting a bit more intelligently. That said, some of his decisions still don’t make a lot of sense. Especially his negotiation with the Elders. He seems to capitulate over and over again for no reason. Also the book gets into way to much detail about the system.
Lots of fighting, lots of upgrading, then meeting the elders before getting backstabbed. Then another 2 major actions before finding out that the devourer needs to make an accounting for their activities... off planet. What could go wrong and how do they get to the meeting? Welllll the next book comes out in May 2.024
How many great stories, worlds, characters, universes can a person in vision and articulate to the masses at one time??? I don't know, but you Mr Cajiao, seem to be very good at it. Thank you!! Looking forward to many more books in all your book series!!!!
I hope that autor will put some intelligence points into Mc . It's going from bad to worse Mc acts like he's mentally impaired. He's falling into traps from mills away and constantly repeating same mistakes. I think this is last book for me in this series.
I like the storyline and the writing but sometimes the descriptions of the available options to boost himself are overly long and too detailed, making me want to skip ahead.
I can't get enough of Jez Cajiao. All books and series are excellent. I'm reading his books too fast and then pout when I have to wait until the next release.
Love the series. Likeable characters with understandable motives (age and insanity) all over the place. The MC however is a tolerable moron that shouldn't be in story.
I certainly devoured this book and series. Thanks for taking me somewhere where "good" wins. This place is HELL! I gladly grab any opportunity to escape it.
