The Beta's Bargain

Rate this book
I made a bargain in a dark alley to protect a man without a name

I’m just the beta, my twin is the desired omega. I scored a great job at a resort where I can earn enough to get us out of the desperate poverty we live in, and finally keep us safe.

In one stupid move, our fortune turns. The terrifying and powerful Treyfield Pack hold my life in the palm of their hands.

The only thing standing in the way of them destroying me, is that stranger from the alley.

Now, I have something they want.

I have something they can’t live without.

I have their omega.

We’re the Treyfield pack, powerful, rich, desired, feared. Our world is one of elite hotels and boardrooms. We get what we want. Always.

Nothing and no one stands in our way. Ever.

She is just an unremarkable beta. Yet, she commands our omega into a fierce possessive rage. He won’t let us near him and he won’t let anyone harm her.

What choice do we have?

If our omega can’t live without this beta, this Onyx, then we’ll take her too.

This book is a why choose novel, meaning our female main character will end up with three or more partners. There is also MM content. Please read the trigger warnings inside the book.

I can’t even begin to explain

This book made me so angry I DNFed at 93% They don’t even see her as a person worth noticing for almost HALF the book. I am not sure when the alphas even fell in love with her. They make it obvious until maybe the last 20% that she is only there because Dylan wants her. Then have the audacity to get upset when she states as much. I thought her relationship to Dylan was central to the story and then the way she lost her virginity… . Then almost the SAME damn miscommunication trope happens a second time and they just abandon her. Then SHE has to fix EVERYTHING.. the alphas begin and end as spoiled dummy heads. No groveling no personality arc. No real romance imo. Even Dylan pissed me off in end. But HE is the only one I forgive because Dylan is bae.

Honestly this probably wasn’t a bad book.. it WASNT for me. Saying the yelling and crying and almost throwing my iPad. I may pick up another book by her in the future but not anytime soon.

I'm sorry I wasted a day reading this. Onyx is a beta who is struggling to support her horrible brat of an omega twin. She attracts the attention of a male Omega who has left his pack after some big misunderstanding and apparently chooses being homeless and starving rather than simply communicating with his pack.

The extremely rich, uptight, snobs of a pack decide they will bring Onyx into their little group so that Dylan, their Omega, will come back to them. It's a ridiculous scheme involving bringing Onyx to work at their fancy hotel (along with her scheming Omega twin). So Dylan follows her to the hotel along with her absolute bitch of a twin sister who blames Onyx for everything and whines about her not helping score the rich Alphas for her pack. Following so far? Yeah I don't blame you.

The writing is choppy and doesn't flow. One minute Onyx is about to have sex with one of the Alphas and Dylan in a garden, they get interrupted and the next chapter she is in a room about to have sex with two other members of the pack while the other two watch behind a two way mirror and and you are trying to figure out how she got from point A to B. A lot of the book is like this where it jumps all over the place and makes so sense. Also there is no character development of the Alphas or Dylan, they were all completely interchangeable and I often was confused who was who.

And don't even get me started on when Onyx does have sex with these Alphas, she's a virgin but there is no pain, she can have sex multiple times in a row with no soreness and she just rolls with sleeping with everyone in multiple positions like she is a pro at this. Stop writing virgin sex scenes like this authors! One Alpha even yells something like "You will have my heir!" and she says no we need to discuss that first, but there is no mention of her being on birth control or him using a condom so kinda late for that discussion no?

There is miscommunication galore, the sister pretends to be her so that she can destroy her sister's life and the Alphas immediately believe the lie (including Dylan who was oh so in love with her) and immediately kick her to the streets where she is homeless and has no money. Weeks go by until they finally figure out they screwed up and that the bitch Omega sister was the real liar. Do they immediately go get Onyx and grovel on their knees like they should? Nope. They send one of the pack member's sisters who basically puts it all on Onyx to solve their problems. And Onyx whines and says alot of "I'm just a lowly Beta" blah blah blah. There is a ball followed by the bare minimum of grovel and she falls right into their arms. Doesn't make them work for it. Accepts a sorry with a bunch of gifts as an apology and we're at the end.

Oh yeah and she is ready to breed with these assholes. A baby would be a great idea to being into this home of bastards.

So basically skip this if you want a good omegaverse with MMCs you root for and an FMC with a backbone. If you are seeking Alphas that are arrogant and manipulative with an FMC that lays down like a doormat, this ones for you.

I've decided that, the older I get, I tend to care about female heroines more than their own authors. It's sad, really.

If you're looking for an MM romance that's narrated by a FMC, this is the book for you. Unfortunately, the romance for the heroine is nonexistent. And I wish I was lying. I thought it was building up to something great, but it definitely wasn't.

These men did not give two shits about her. They come up with a plan to court her so they can get their omega back and that plan never seems to actually change. And the courting? Well, that means banging her whenever they can. There are literally no "courting" moments where they try to get to know her, understand her, or spoil her. Oh, sure, they enjoy the bonus of having a new toy with different anatomy to play with, but they don't care about her in the slightest.

You know when you get a gift with purchase that you didn't ask for and didn't want? So you shove it into a dark space and forget about it until you ultimately get rid of it? That was Onyx.

So when the third act breakup happens and her omega even turns against her with little proof - all of them falling into the same trap that separated them in the first place, with the added bonus that they're even stupider now for falling for it a second time when they know she has a literal TWIN who has been stirring up trouble for weeks within the same building!!! Let's check out some of these gems after they kick her to the curb.

It doesn't matter. We have Dylan. -Silas

That sums up the entire book. Everything they do is for their precious Dylan. Absolutely nothing is for Onyx.

"It occurs to me that if I can be thrown aside so easily, then the feelings weren't genuine. Manipulation or otherwise, I needed to know that they really believed all this." -Onyx

Say it louder and more often until you believe it, sister. They couldn't give a tiny rat's ass about you before, during, or after the relationship, so long as you delivered their omega.

She barely turns, and Dylan is already backing away.

POV of one of the alphas watching as she literally saved their omega from another alpha and then said-omega walks away without a word. Even Dylan, who was supposed to be her safe space, doesn't give her the time of day after she rescues him. You'd think he'd learn after jumping to conclusions and having his life manipulated and imploded the first time around.

She leaves, just like that. So easily. Walking away from us all over again. -Falcon

Uhhh, yeah. That's called a normal reaction! It's what people do after you break up with them and fire them through a third party, evict them, leave them homeless and jobless, and then go spend weeks alone, even though he and his pack knew the truth for weeks, themselves, at that point, and never even tried to call her or approach her. Fuck all of them.

Her walking away from me, walking out of my life, is only tolerated because he needs me. -Falcon

"He" being Dylan. Stay true to form, you douche. Watch the woman who loves you walk away after everything previously mentioned because your precious little omega got pushed into a wall and was rescued by the beta in question - the beta who was injured while saving that same omega! It's worth repeating: fuck all of them.

"The only excuse I have is that I was trying my best to do what was right by my pack." - Silas

Which clearly didn't include Onyx, even at this point (91%) of the story. Got it.

I thought that night would be the end of it, but the pack has been determined to right their wrongs. -Onyx

I'd like to say they succeeded, but this was at 93% and I DNFed. I didn't care about their HEA anymore.

I am always pro-beta. I want them to overcome and be loved and wanted and needed and spoiled. Onyx was nothing but an accessory to Dylan; only brought back into the fold because he was having nightmares about missing her.

No, that's inaccurate. She was only brought back into the fold because she had to chase after them at every single turn. Even when they have actual evidence and confessions that they were 100% wrong of what they accused her of, they still don't care about her enough to go after her. They send some acquaintances with job offers her way and throw some money at her, but never actually go after her until she shows up right in front of them. Twice.

And who was she chasing after? An omega who barely ever speaks and does nothing but snarl, snort, and grab her wrist to drag her from location to location and three interchangeable alphas who have no layers and no character development.

I always had to stop and remind myself how to differentiate when POV would change. 'This one seems to be the alpha of the alphas; this one is blonde and always working out and I think he's the one with the sister; this one has the evil mommy.'

An evil mommy who did not get even a hint of what was coming to her. Same with Silver. Wildly disappointed that she didn't have a more horrific finale to her character.

Aside from all of that, the writing style was, frankly, horrid. I felt like I was reading something between a fleshed out outline and a first draft. The sentence structures were always confusing and there was no narrative flow. They'd just jump from scene to scene and moment to moment, characters popping in and out within one sentence and the next. It was confusing and hard to read. One minute they're in the pool, the next in the elevator, then they're being watched by other alphas, I mean...what?? This happens in every chapter. Heck, this happens on every page - I was constantly backtracking to try and see if I missed anything. Slow it down and tell a story. Don't just jump from event to event.

The STORY had the potential to be good until breakup. Even that could've been sold with a more believable setup and a lot of groveling. The execution just was not there, but the story was compelling enough for me to stick with it for longer than I should have.

I'm so sad for this pathetic little beta and her hanger-on of a happily for now ending. Would've been nice if she'd ended up with a pack who fought for her and saw her worth, as more than just an appendage for their beloved omega. Even if it happened after I DNFed, it was way too little too late by then. She deserved to be happy.

Re-read. Was unsure if I should skip since I read it first already this year or read again. Read again. Silver was still the wicked sister that made things tense. Dylan keeping Onyx was adorable. I knew the set up was coming and it still pissed me off. I didn't like that the support characters felt like they were making things seem like Onyx's fault, pushing her to confess. Falcon's screw up in the club was painful. They got off too lightly. Saying that there is a moment in one of the next books where they mention it's not enough. Having read Silver's book as well, this one was a whole new kind of messy.

I may need to go back and read the first book. Picked up this one for the Beta saving the day and I originally thought it was a standalone, so my initial thought was who the heck was Scarlet. The guys sucked at first. Dylan was sweet enough but came across traumatized. A lot of miscommunication and trust issues going on. The guys were alphaholes. Silver was worse. The forgiveness was shocking.

A lot of scheming before the guys realise what they need to do and that was only with the help of Nyx. Out of the guys I liked Silas best, but the third act break up blew it. Even Dylan. It was a brutal yesterdays friend is todays enemy. They didn't bother listening, but Nyx kept silent as well, despite staying for days after. Her insecurities were heartbreaking, the moment she realized she'd gained so many friends was a tear jerker.

The forgiveness was almost saint like. There was no revenge on the mother, no cutting ties with Silver, and not enough groveling from the guys. After all the character building and relationship progression, it was a bit of a slap in the face, but I'm glad Nyx got her happy end. It was touch and go there at the club. I'm curious about Hazel.

I would never have forgiven them, especially the omega. They treat her horribly the entire book, as a pawn to get what they really want. The omega obsessed with her should’ve known better. Ugh.

This story of the beta Onyx was every bit as good as the alpha Scarlett’s story. I love omegaverse and this series is literally the very best ♥️.

Going in for the re-read of book 4 now year I am reading them in order.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series, but nevertheless I enjoyed it. I do wish there would’ve been a bit more groveling on the guys part but it is what it is.

adventures of gaslighting

Sorry. But this was pretty good till you hit the part where it falls apart because the rest of the pack had a misunderstanding and treated the fmc like garbage. And then somehow it fell to the FMC to straighten the misunderstanding out?!?!?!? Like wtf is that garbage? The pack should’ve been GROVELING. There was 2% groveling with some weird test she gave them where she hung out in the alleyway that held sentiment. Cue ten million eye rolls. She forgave them so quickly- even when the one said she wasn’t good enough because she was a beta- and that dig went unnoticed. If anything based on her upbringing that was the cruelest thing that could’ve been said and there was no atonement or groveling!!!

There were so many moments that could’ve been made into some kind of climaxiable moment and it just, fell flat. Her losing her virginity. Her sister being the culprit. I had an incredibly hard time when crap hit the fan and the guys were total jerks and she seriously waited around the four days- like she legit waited around moping and seeking them out after they wronged her!! She groveled to them, waiting in the wings. I just didn’t get it. The fmc sucked and the men sucked- this book had a decent amount of typos and grammatical errors too. I really don’t know how this book had such high ratings.

Ok, I am of two minds with this book.
First, the grammar and Punctuation errors are a tad overwhelming and the fact that due to the fact it honestly didn't look like there were paragraph breaks, the story itself was cool.

I wish, that after all they went through there.was a baby. They.deserved it...sorta.

But on the other hand, did the pack really deserve nyxie?

And they had her wearing a bracelet that tracked her whereabouts so, they could have checked if she was the traitor...

Oh whatever. It's over now.

They could have groveled a little more

Love her books but I wish there was a bit more grovel and she didn’t give in so quickly, but I do love the authors writing and hope to read more.

Loved it, just a a couple of things need fixing…

I got hooked pretty quickly on this one.
I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I couldn’t stop reading, wanting to know what happened next. I don’t usually like the final act breakup trope, misunderstandings, but dang if this book did it in a way that I did enjoy!
The spicy times were done well and weren’t over done.
With the parts that I didn’t really like:
Honestly, I got a little lost, more than once. There were weird jumps from scene to scene that didn’t make sense and done without explanation.
A couple times I’d be lost as to who was speaking or what had just happened. I felt it needed another once over by an editor to help point out the gaps that needed filling. Despite that, I did have a good time, I kind of shrugged it off and just rolled with it.

Overall I really like this book. I want to recommend it and just let you know that it’s not perfect.
Still fun though!

I have never been so angry at a book before, I guess there is a first time for anything. The book was almost good until around the ending part, the lack of groveling annoys me, after all they did, even after finding out she did not do it, they did not go after her😭. I can’t express how angry I am right now😪. The book would have gotten 5 stars if not for the rubbish miscommunication trope.

Beta Love 🥰

I am always looking for books about Betas finding their happy ending. This book does that for me and there is no latent omega gene. I got all the feels from this book. Onyx is an amazing character and I can see myself reading this book several more times.

okay read

I really like this kinda plot but the writing feels choppy and jumpy hence the 3 starts eventhough I really like the FMC. The grovel wasn’t enough and as if the MMCs doesn’t really wanted to grovel like fuck u guys. Love it tho! But fuck them guys eventhough i still love them ^.*

not sure

I think this may be the first time I’m not going to include an overall rating for this book. Truthfully I feel like this book deserves two; it felt like reading two different books. The first half was in all honestly vague and disconjointed and so confusing that I spent the majority of the time confused. Some scenes made sense others didn’t. The only way I know how to describe it is that it felt like you were reading a web of secrets. You could follow along but another strand of that web would catch you out and confuse you.

However the ending to this book was a 5 star read which I did not anticipate. It is heartbreaking and beautiful and I loved it. I think because we know all the answers to the secrets and it all starts to make sense. This is the largest split feeling I’ve had about a book. I think that vagueness and different perceptions to a story are incredible; but as a reader you really need to have the story be clear and cohesive or else it’s just confusing. If you cannot follow along with what’s happening or the emotions involved you get so lost, and I definitely got lost here. Really sad as I was hoping for another 6 star read but honestly give it all a read everyone interprets stories differently !

This is a first from this author for me, and I also read it as a standalone. It's realistically more like 3.5 stars for me but I didn't want to knock it the whole star.

I think this could have used another good pass by an editor, first and foremost. There are disjointed scenes, teleportation of characters, weird plot holes, etc. They are also ALWAYS dragging the poor FMC around by her damn wrist. I swear "grabbed my wrist" is on every single page.

Omegaverses are my guilty pleasure, particularly ones with unique setups, so I have no critique from that standpoint. I do, however, hate the miscommunication trope, and for a while we seemed like we'd narrowly avoid it and then it got ruined. I just don't think there was enough of a reason for the MMCs to react SO strongly to the perceived betrayal, considering they aren't portrayed as idiots who couldn't have made some better assumptions based on the involved parties. They also didn't grovel nearly enough to make up for it, and I'm a little annoyed in the FMC for "giving in" so easily.

Re: being a standalone...there are definitely a few characters who appear rather jarringly or are strangely knowledgeable/intimate. It's super tricky to write connected standalones so I admire it, this could have just used one more polish.

I loved the story, but left disappointed

So this is my first book by this author. I went in blind after reading some reviews.
I love all the trops in this book. The writing was good, and I was very engaged from the start.
*some spoilers below*

I feel like this book was too short. Everything was fine for me until we got to the "betrayal", after that, I was missing a lot of emotional range from everyone, especially the guys.
After everything they went through to get Dylan back, I would expect something from them to get Onyx back, but we got nothing,
especially since the actual betrayal was from them.. where is the chasing? The groveling? I will do anything to make you forgive me?
I felt like her feelings got washout, and Onyx did all the work from the beginning if I think about it.
So yeah, I didn't like it one bit. The author say they love her and can't live without her, but I dont buy it.
I can't feel it from her writing, and that's super disappointing!
In the end, the feelings I was left with was that she is less, and I don't approve 😡

great. but

They were AWFUL to her and she just takes them back. Barely any grovel. Not pleased. I needed them to need her. To beg on their knees and for her to say hm. Not good enough. She didn’t deserve what they did. They should have trusted her. 75% of the book. Amazing. Perfect. The characters? Amazing. I’m reading the whole series but the grovel lacks in all of them so far. I enjoy them enough to keep going but. I need the grovel

Wait I actually really liked this story and the characters. However during the 3rd act break up tell me why the guys found out the truth but never went to seek out the fmc? Then when they did see her like a month later they were still mad at her? Even though they knew the truth. Then they never groveled???

I loved it but it coulve been so much better with a proper grovel. Their redemption was not even one. Tea Ravine needs to learn to write better on that front.
The mmcs’ groveling needs to be on the same level as the hurt they caused to the fmc. It’s called karma, balance. If not, it’s unsatisfactory and lukewarm.

I give this book 2 stars. I'm surprised that so many people give 5 stars.
It basically feels like this book has been written by the Mad Hatter. It feels like the author had two or three different versions and concepts of this book and pieced bits and pieces of each version together - just that those pieces don't really work together. The story flow feels very abrupt - even within the scenes there are abrupt changes in dialogue which just don't really make sense. I try to give some examples without spoiling: We have a scene where the FL figures out that the Alpha MLs have invaded her privacy. We have like maybe one sentence that she is angry about that and then suddenly the topic changes to a suggestion of her and the Omega ML moving in with the Alphas going completly against the natural flow of the conversation. In another scene 2 of the MLs and the FL are getting frisky in the garden and are then surprised by another ML. The FL gets embarassed and wonders what got into her. Maybe 2 pages later we are reading a scene where the FL and two of the MLs are getting intimate within the apartment - while the other 2 ML are watching (scene is written from viewpoint of one of the watching MLs). We get no explanation on how we got to that point. Why would the FL, who was embarassed and flustered just a few minutes before, just suddenly decide to get naked and have sex with another Alpha ML and the Omega ML? Another scene the FL makes a comment about one of the Alpha ML's mother - without any precursor how she got to that topic and how she even knows about his mother. Then one of the MLs arranges for the FL to get the key to the library. Why? There was not even one mentioning before that she even likes to read or anything like that. This happens a lot throughout the book. Characters are suddenly appearing and you wonder how and from where. Characters move to locations without any reason and you wonder why they went there in the first place. Moreover, the time flow doesn't make sense at some points as well as sudden changes in the characters' behavour and thoughs. The FL basically swings back and forth between showing a little selfrespect for herself and doubting her worth. Moreover, she is said to be a very dutyful and diligent employee but from the beginning she is defiant against her bosses (the Alpha MLs) and makes unprofessional comments etc. in order to make her look tough and sassy or something. During the dramatic climax (which doesn't make sense in a lot of ways, by the way) the FL is compromised and apparently incriminating video footage appears. First of all, how did they find that footage? There must be hundreds of hours of video footage of several different cameras, yet, they find exactly the two scenes that "convict" the FL. And apparently they find it at the same moment or a few minutes after the "dramatic" event takes place. However, the MLs are basically blaming the FL on the spot without any real reason for it. Falcon already knew the twin sister and the other ML's mother are mean b*tches. Yet, they just blame the FL without even being suspicous - that doesn't make sense.

The worst is that the Alpha MLs are not really deserving the FL. There is no real groveling and I'm not convinced that they actually like her for herself and not just use her as a means to get their Omega back till the very end. Every time you might think they are actually developing feelings for her, a few pages later they say something or act a certain way that has me doubting what I read before. After 1/3 of the book they decide to "woo" her... However, there is no wooing. It's just sex. They are not doing anything special that would really prove they are trying to win her over and throughout most of the book they point out that she is not good enough for them and their Omega because she is a Beta. It doesn't even make sense that they discriminate against Betas so much when apparently they are treating they employees (including Betas) so well. Crazy thing is, she is falling for them and thinks they are great guys even though they aren't. They are just pretending to be interested in her and are in my eyes not even very convincing while they use her. At one point the Omega ML tells the FL that the other MLs are just using her to get him back. You would think she would be hurt or angry... No, our FL just says that they couldn't possibly want her because she is not good enough. Excuse me, they are using you! They don't want you so what's so hard to believe that they would make you pack in order to bind the Omega to them? And just like that the Omega doesn't care anymore that the MLs are using the FL but feels it is more important to convince the FL that she is wanted in the pack - he's even asking the other MLs for help. WTF?!

The FL cannot even remember conversions she had with the MLs before. There is a discussion about children which makes her like one of the MLs at an earlier point. Later in the book they have basically the same discussion again... And she acts as if she hadn't heard about that before. Moreover, sometimes the characters are just suddenly diving into heavy topics which doesn't make sense when they are not trusting each other, yet. Who shares their personal fears and insecurities with people they don't trust or who are treating them badly?

The antagonists are not being punished at all. They get a stern talking to and that's basically it.

This is the first book of this series I'm reading but it becomes clear that at the end of the book characters from earlier books are appearing. However, those scenes are quite ridiculous in my opinion. They just appear and help the FL and become her friends when they do not even know her and without any reason. How did they even know where she was? The characters are just becoming a big family without any relationship building.

The MLs are not groveling even when they realize they were wrong. They are not taking action even when they know where she is; just waiting for Gray's sister to arrange two meetings to talk to her. Excuse me, but if they were really sorry they should have taken action and come to her with big gestures and tons of apologies for their shitty behaviour. In the end she basically tells them what they should do to make her forgive them - that's fucking lazy. Furthermore, the only thing they are apologizing for is that they didn't trust her when the dramatic climax stuff happened. What about all the shitty behaviour they pulled before? The fact that they discrimated against her, used her and lied to her in order to get their Omega is completely ignored. The test she is putting them through to prove that they know her is also ridiculous since none of the scenes before are actually showing that they could know about the stuff she is asking for.

The sudden self-esteem the FL shows when she gets angry at the MLs at the end is also coming out of thin air. A few scenes before there was no mention of any of that.

Moreover, there is no real character development and especially the Alpha MLs are quite bland as characters and are exchangable since they are not so different from each other. Especially, Silas and Falcon are difficult to differentiate from each other. Dylan, the male Omega, has not much of an own personality either - or at least we don't get to read much about it. We don't get to know what makes the characters tick, what they like, dislike etc. They stay foreign to the reader throughout the book.

Maybe I'm just so disappointed in the book because I was looking forward to it so much. Most omegaverse books focus on an Omega FL. I really love Betas, though, and wish there were more stories where they receive the love they deserve. This book has been painful to read, though, since it had so much potential but the execution was lacking. It felt like the author didn't know where she wants to go with the story or forgot what she wrote before, so there was no golden thread leading through the book. For example: The scent of the perfume of the Omega ML changes throughout the story - sometimes it's lemon and other times it's caramel... It left me very confused, frustrated and unsatisfied. Some of the steamy scenes were nice though.

Not sure if I want to read the other books of the series now...

Let's talk about Onyx - the precious stone, black as night, but so beautiful. I have no idea how Thea Ravin got the idea for the symbolic meaning behind the name of her female beta-character, but it fits better than a glove; it fits like magic. Onyx is associated with the night, symbolizing strength, perseverance and the ability to overcome challenges. It is believed to absorb negative energy and provide emotional and physical strength to its owner. Our beta-girl is just like the gemstone - a fierce protector, headstrong and passionate in her beliefs; a hardworking, observant, quiet personality. Her only problems - unfortunately more than one - are a father who did his best to plant poisonous seeds of her own self-worth, thus chipping away large chunks of her confidence and brightness, and a sister who is an evil incarnate - an odd combination of Cruella de Vil, Lady Tremaine / Cinderella's stepmother / and Gothel / Rapunzel's stepmother/. Yes, Silver - Onyx's sister - had an evil streak as wide as the River Styx in her tiny Omega body. After the death of their parents, which Onyx had been led to believe was her fault, she had been the sole breadwinner for the two of them. But even in those darkest of times, living in poverty and wallowing in misery, Onyx never lost her inner goodness and light. And not only that, she saved a homeless man on the street. Amazing! The girl who had never received kindness, care and warmth, found the strength to help someone else.
I was intrigued by the plot of this convoluted and sad Cinderella-like story and secretly hoping that the sun will rise on her street. Right? But No - it was probably too much to hope. The twists in the story were definitely good though. The homeless guy Onyx saved turned into a key figure in a complicated game of chess with stakes far beyond the usual risks. Even after the revelation of his true identity, Onyx chose to stay by him - to help him get his fairytale, face the past, build the burnt bridges of trust and have a future. Time and time again, I watched Onyx give pieces of her heart and her selfless love and wondered will there be anything left of her at the end!?!!Behind the glittering curtains of a life Onyx has never even dreamed about, she saw the real ugliness, the bitter truths, the sinister lies, the cruel bargains.
This story is a jarring reminder that our expectations and the following results not always align and sometimes the happily ever after is questionably happy. And that's exactly why I liked the book - it wasn't a perfect and glossy happy ending, there were so many bumps on the road to it. Was this pack actually a good fit for Onyx? Did they grovel enough? Did they finally accept her for her own value or...?So many questions in one short, intense and twisted reading adventure.

This is what I craved. An omegaverse featuring a Beta.

“*I have to keep focus on the end game. Silvie. But when I look up and find Dylan staring at me, I’m not sure what game I’m even playing anymore.”*

Onyx is the overlooked sister. The overworked and unloved sister who feels so guilty for the parents’ deaths that she does absolutely everything to support Silva, her Omega sister. Silva knows she is special and abuses her position.

At some point Onyx showed kindness to a homeless man who started to follow her like a lost puppy. It’s sweet and fairytale like. What she doesn’t know is whom he has run away from. Onyx protected her sister Silver for years and now must protect both, but they are rivals for the pack. Work and rags have become her entire existence.

“Dylan belongs to Treyfield. You knew that, right?”
Well, her stalker is an omega, and he has a pack. Onyx only wants to help him heal, so she offers to be a liaison between the two. It breaks her heart, since she loves him.

“*My eyes widen as my brain joins the dots. I’m the invisible buffer helping them to grow back towards each other.“*

💔 The Romance ❤️💔

This whole story revolves around the characters. They grow to love each other but the obstacles are overwhelming. Silas’s mother wants children, and so does he. Onyx’s sister wants to replace Dylan as the omega of their pack. The pack doesn’t want a beta, just Dylan back.

What elevates the story are the characters. Amazingly enough for a reverse harem, the guys all have personality, even if Dylan doesn’t have much to go on. Grayson is probably my favorite, because he is an artistic landscape designer. But his sister rivals him. Her design ideas for parties are worth copying (especially the Alice in Wonderland masquerade ball). All the non-pack friends conspire later to save Onyx after she is ejected from the pack. It’s so heartening and uplifting that this is a wonderful Christmas read.

Triggers:
47-50% of the way copious sex is sliced into the plot. I skipped large sections because the plot was so good I didn’t want to stop.
* exhibitionism
* Mm
* Each has personality
* Multiple pov
* Enthusiastic
* Masquerade Ball/Alice in Wonderland theme
* Extended ending but really hits the grovel need

Quotes I loved:
“I hold perfectly still as he removes his fingers. His fingers return to my waist and drag over my hips. I catch my breath and shudder as he moves away. “

“I whimper into his mouth and move my lips under his. Kissing him back. Oh, no, I’m kissing him back. I have to stop. It feels incredible. “

Omegaverse reverse harem+MM
First person, pack pov
Stand-alone

The mm aspect feels mostly fade to black
The pacing and time jumps in this book are a little odd, three days pass when it seems like it’s been two minutes, so you have a lot of missed scenes with no development. You also get some tell not show scenes. It’s also only 280 pages so the spice goes full send at one point, where you suddenly walk in on a sex scene or happen to come across the office and something is happening somewhere else, with no foreplay but then there are scenes with quick foreplay

Apart from the backstories, the guys tended to blend into each other a little, and the interest in the female main character feels off, since she is a beta, and the third act makes it feel a lot more off for structure’s sake but I felt like it wasn’t fair for her story.

Two Spicy scenes with each love interest, pretty much, most of those could count as group scenes, but two blur the lines into being more of a group scene, and there’s one heat scene and focused bonds at the end, but it’s good that the heat doesn’t interfere too badly with anything

The group thing felt very easy to pick up on, as soon as she’s with one person, a door would open, a curtain would open or a LED screen would go blank and then disappear and she would see the rest of the pack on the other side of the wall and then every single other person in the pack would barge into the scene lmao, it was kinda cute though but you feel like it’s them following every single person around. They also had zero poly communication “you want my alphas? Good” to “I’m mad that they want you, stay away from her” was a little sad to read about.

PS with spoilers: This is also similar to the alpha book by her in the series, where its contract focused, they fall in love and then the main character is like “oh right contract, I need to leave” and stuff falls apart so that’s the third act, but they grovel and prove to her that they want her before she runs, but it still crashes down with another similar plot

DNF 85%. Rewrite the end!!

Was desperately disappointed with this one.

I’ve struggled with the beginning of each book. The cruelty, arrogance, and entitlement of all the MMC’s.

But by the middle I always forgive and start to care.
Then the angst gets strong, followed by a betrayal, and then thankfully a decent and heartfelt grovel.

It’s definitely a formula I love and enjoy.

This time though, at around the 80% mark, it totally FAILED!!

Instead of having the guys (justifiably) grovel, the author has the FMC have to go to them (again), and in essence throw herself at them.

Repeatedly throughout this one, the FMC has had to make herself vulnerable, give more, be braver, kinder, better.

(While thee MMC’s did end up revealing better parts, it never really matched their words and actions from the beginning, so never truly made up for it. Further,, their continued words, that she was an afterthought connected to the male love, seriously grated.)

After all her sacrifices, pain, and betrayals by everyone who should have cared… Nope, too much!!

I was waiting for the payoff, the moment when the FMC would get her recognition, her moment of justification and chance to be wanted so much that someone was willing to fight for her, to make THEMSELVES, vulnerable!

Epic fail!

I almost have to say skip this one if you loved the others, despite the links and info shared by all of them…

Lastly, it’s a character betrayal by the author.
Considering the FMC’s backstory, the continued reinforcement of the negative beliefs, and her pain, it just doesn’t make sense that she would keep throwing herself at them, when they have done nothing but reject her.
She even says to herself that they obviously never really loved her…

So WHY, would she go chasing after them again?
Why would she daydream about the good moments, and not the cruelty of the last moments?

This ending was not only an epic fail in satisfaction, it made no sense!

REWRITE.

I should have listen to the reviews. I hate myself for trusting the author too much giving them a benefit of doubt.

The book was good. Started off with a bang but by the end i wanted to burn everything. I wanted to stab myself and Onyx for being such a... Such a damn innumerable shit anf her alphas and omega. Everything.

I'm furious. She gets thrown out for something her twin did and then she goes to them and explains that she did not after the men threw her out of their life. And Hazel (I haven't read her book but i fucking hate her.) has the audacity to tell Onyx that she's selfish..fuck this.

I apologise for being crude.i know the characters are flawed but what about grovelling? What about FMC having self respect? I genuinely loved Onyx without her men. She is sweet, innocent, caring, understanding and so much more. But when her men are involved she is reduced to just a mindless person focused on loving them.

The level of pain she endured? All for them to come back with freaking wings with assorted sauces. (Damn them)

I want to cry. I love how the author writes. It keeps me wanting to read more more and more. I liked Scarlet's books because she did not simply bend over and accept her men back. Her men put in some efforts.

There was just much effort from Onyx's men that merely showed that she is after all just 'some beta'. They went out hunting for their omega for months but when it was Onyx's turn, they refused to look. She was the one who came back, who offered them a second chance(they did not even beg for a chance until she went to them).

I hate it. Please I will assume that they went their separate ways. It would be a better ending.

Aside from this, if anyone has any book with beta FMC with a similar vibe like this book (different ending, lots of grovelling) please suggest.

I hated this book! All the guys were trash, even Dylan. I didn't like the way Dylan treated Onyx. I didn't like how he stalks her, was super clingy, constantly tugged on her wrist, basically dragged her everywhere, and forced kisses on her. He would've never gotten away with this if he was an alpha. It was double standards.

I hated how all the alphas looked down on her for simply being a beta, were rude to her, ignored her, and kept saying she was ugly and nothing special. I hated how they wanted her gone but expected her to help them win back Dylan. I hated how they used and manipulated her through "courting" just to get back Dylan. They never once felt guilty or apologized for it. Unfortunately Onyx never found out about it as well.

The men were hypocrites for thinking she betrayed them when they were much worse. They've lied, deceived her, and never trusted her. I didn't like that Onyx basically had to fight for them. The guys barely did anything to earn her love. They gave the world to Dylan but never gave her anything in return. Their love for her was not genuine. It was purely lust. It felt more like they liked her because she was an extension of Dylan. And of course, the typical trope happens at the end; she's basically there to just pop out babies for them. What a shame. She deserves so much better.

The biggest issue of all is that the story focuses too much on the omega. Onyx was just an outsider living in their world and being pulled along with their drama. She was an afterthought for them.
