Собственик на картинна галерия е намерен мъртъв. Първата хипотеза е самоубийство, но при по-внимателен оглед и една счупена рамка, променя всичко. Комисарят се впуска в разследване на възможните хипотези.

Приятна и доста увлекателна новела. Има някои недовършени и леко скалъпени моменти. Обратът не ме изненада особено. Авторът има потенциал, но трябва да работи, за да го шлифова и осъвършенства.

Fair warning, this is the first book I have read in Afrikaans, so that is the way this is geared.

I can't tell you a lot about the quality of it, as I don't really have any "mental feel" for how the language is supposed to sound. I'm not gonna say this was anything earth-shattering, story-wise, but that's not what I was after anyway, so if you were curious, that's why it gets five stars.

I've only been messing with Afrikaans for a month or two, so my base vocab and comfort level with sentence structure and such isn't top notch, but this was written in a fairly simple style (I assume. I don't know if they language lends itself to this, or...). I was able to follow along for the most part; it definitely helped me burn some of those common key words and phrases into my brain, and it was entertaining. This is maybe the most important thing to me at this stage of language learning. I can type your sentences all day long, but I want to be able to use the language and play with it, and this allowed me to do this.

To be fair, I probably had it a little bit easier since I have some German under my belt, but if you are looking for a language to learn for fun, you really can't go wrong with Afrikaans. And here's a good book to start reading it with.
