Off the Rails, book 3 of Tae Keller's Mihi Ever After series, ended on a cliffhanger. Mihi, Savannah, and Reese rain into the Evil Librarian Ms Lavender, who informed them that they had destroyed the three gates from the Rainbow Realm. So, when we begin Home Sweet Home, they're trapped there, with no way to go home. Will they find a way home?
Well, you would probably guess the answer, even if the title didn't give it away. Yes, of course they get home. But it's a fun story. Also, it ends with a little plot twist that I didn't see coming.
In this fourth book in the Mihi Ever After series, Mihi and her friends have just realized that the portal back to their world has disappeared, and they must rely on their previous knowledge and connections in both the Rainbow Realm and in their own world in order to get back home. This is an easy to read fantasy series which is perfect for those readers who are just starting to explore worlds beyond our own. There is just enough tension to keep the plot moving and the writing is easy to follow without it being pedantic. While I’m not sure this could be successful as a stand-alone, the first three books in the series are worth a read as well. Also worth noting, the narrator in the audio version was not my favorite for some of the voices–far too shrill and high pitched for my ears. Thank you to NetGalley for this audiobook.
It was touch and go for Mihi and friends throughout this book, but I thought the ending was perfect. With the way it ended, I could see a possible spin off or a revisiting of these characters in the future. Who knows, we will have to wait and see. :)
Triya Leong did a great job narrating this book. Quite often when narrators try to narrate children their voices end up being screechy, but that was not the case with Triya's narration. I would 100% listen to children's books narrated by Triya in the future.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author/publisher for a copy of this audiobook.
This had potential to be a cute fantasy/adventure book for kids but without reading the others, I think the storyline got lost a little bit for me. I still think the young people in my family would enjoy it though. My only negative feedback is the narrator's voice was extremely shrill and hard to listen to after a while.
It was great! Just felt a little short. It was pretty solid as a conclusion and story. Just felt like I would have liked to know why some of the character motivations were the way they were. Good other than that though.
