Cuba After Dark was different than the kinds of books I usually read. It was an study of a man's dark side. Don Nightengale is so driven by his needs and his wants, both sexually and for his career, that he loses focus on the "good" life that he already has; his life with kids and a lovely wife who risks a lot of her own self to "go" with her husband on his adventure. The book explores the path they take, how it affects his marriage and his attitude about himself and others studying the consequences in a roller coaster of events that include sex, drugs and cabarets. A page turner as the reader needs to find out how it all works out in the end for Mr. Don Nightengale, a protagonist of extreme proportions.

It's a page turner! I got the book for Valentine's Day from a friend and I finished it already. Don -- I just don't know what to say about him. He's a louse but you kind of feel sorry for him. Carrie -- She tries to please her man but he's asking so much of her. It's about marriage. It's about sex in marriage. It's about fantasy. It's about turning the big 4-0. It's about relationships. Would love to ask the author a few questions especially -is this what men really want?

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I've never had a book make me feel dirty before. And not dirty in a good way, dirty in a "I want to take a shower and scrub two layers of skin off" type way. This book has succeeded like no other. That's why I'm give it four stars, purely for the author's ability to make me feel this way. There is no denying that is a gift for words, for words are not only made to make us feel warm and fuzzy, but also to make us feel like we just walked through toxic sludge.
Reading this book was like watching a train wreck, or an episode of Jerry Springer, I just couldn't put it down, and not in a good way. We watch helplessly as the Don and his wife, Carrie embark on a threesome, and watch as their life implodes through the pages with that one act.
I am not making any assumptions on relationships based on this book, nor am I making any morality judgements. However, this book shows very clearly that there are consequences to every action, and you had better think through every life altering decision you make. It broke my heart to watch the devolving of what was a successful, loving marriage with two children into the hell that it ended up into.

This page turner reads like a movie. A total summer beach read. It takes an interesting look at marriage and relationships and really makes you think. I loved Don, I hated Don. The characters have stayed with me. Well written and fascinating.
