Writing is a way to make a lot of different people do exactly what you want them to do. When I can’t get my toddler to listen to me, I turn to my characters. They always cooperate!

I currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina with my husband and seven year old son. I have perfected the ability to write in a noisy house and create story lines while folding laundry.

Ten Things to know about me:

1. I have a fear of whales. All whales. The noise they make. The sight of them (even on tv). I don't think this phobia has a name and I've never met anyone else who feels this way. I blame it on the 3D movie when I was 7 at the Boston Museum of Science. (Thanks Dad.)

2. When I get hungry it brings out the worst in me. My friends and family know to keep me well fed. They pack snacks now.

3. I can cook but not bake. Not even a little. Not even a box of brownies.

4. If there is a song I like it is normal to hear me listening to it a hundred times (give or take) in a row.

5. I do not, under any circumstances, read directions. Who has time for that? Making mac & cheese by the seat of my pants for the last 25 years.

6. Like a black-out drunk, I have lost hours of my life mysteriously to Pinterest. If you haven't tried it yet... don't. Save your self.

7. Before I became a mother, lots of things grossed me out. Now nothing does.

8. My favorite food is food... my least favorite food is no food. I love food. (apply the same rule to wine)

9. I do not have a green thumb. I have the kind of thumb that kills any type of plant ever given to me. Whatever kind of thumb that is... I have it.

10. Writing has changed my life. Not just the career it's created but the way I feel when I write. If you have something you love to do I hope you get the opportunity to do it.

Every single character from the Piper Anderson series IS family to me and Jedda is now that to me as well. I wanted to wrap my arms around him, give comforting hugs and words of advice, at the beginning of this book and throughout! Danielle has done it AGAIN! There were moments I wanted to gut wrench cry, moments I laughed, moments that took my breath away.

Danielle has the unique talent of being able to bring her stories and characters to life. She is a master at this. She nails it with every single book by making me feel like she knows MY life story, MY emotions/feelings/actions...what MY life experience has been...she captures ME. Always has connected me personally to her characters.

With Finding Freedom, I was especially struck by how often I would contemplate and reflect upon what was transpiring in the story. Why?? As I read some select parts (or else I would have read in its entirety) of this book to a very wise woman, she told me the reason I felt this way is because MANY of us have had or are going through these same emotions/feelings...it's what makes this so incredible...Danielle truly connects us.

I love how Jedda transforms and gains an understanding of himself in this book. Do I think his story is done? Heck no. He has some serious emotional issues that need addressing as does Willow, but knowing there is a strong support system of Betty, Clay, Bobby, Piper, Michael, Jules and Crystal will help.

This is another aspect of Finding Freedom that I loved. Danielle didn't shy away from bringing attention to real life medical issues such as PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety and depression, just like diabetes is a real medical illness. These were once taboo illnesses not to be discussed. I hope her doing so helps others realize these are real, there is treatment available and there is no reason for shame.

Danielle no wonder you have my heart. Each book you write is not only therapeutic to me but makes me feel HOME.
I can't wait to visit with my "family" again. Until then...I highly recommend this book to all. You will not be disappointed that's for sure.

Addictive

When I chose this series I did so because I wanted to experience a new and different style author. Also quite honestly the first book was free. Needless to say I have since purchased the complete Piper Anderson series. The series covers so many diverse issues and does so with a warm ,heart felt way. The one weakness in the series is technical accuracy, however the author never makes an attempt to make you think that technical accuracy is her goal. If you enjoy the first book in the series plan on being in it for the long haul. I fully enjoy this author, and this series. It is a refreshing change of pace. Although you will find this series and her other works in the Romance category, the Romance element is very slight compared with the mystery, suspense and all American drama this series presents.

A bit disappointing

In the first 3 books there was a little bit of swear words. In this book it is riddled with with it. I find that when someone uses excessive swear words it only means that they are not intelligent enough to use alternative words. There is too much graphic bedroom scenes also. Why not just say they went to bed and leave it at that. I was also disappointed in Betty and Club's arrangement. Why did Betty lower her standards?

In her fourth book in The Piper Anderson Series, Finding Freedom, author Danielle Stewart examines the injustices of the court system and the struggles that many paroled inmates face when they are released. She weaves an emotional and thought provoking tale while at the same time wrapping her character(s) up in the love, family, and protection of the “gang of Edenville” and teaching us all lessons of forgiveness, acceptance, and hope.

Jedda Wright has been in prison for most of his life. He has never lived as an adult outside of the system. When asked to envision a safe place the only thing that comes to mind is his prison cell. He has fears, doubts, and more people betting on his failure than his success. But as we all know from previous books in this series that if you have Betty on your side, that is really all you need.

I loved Jedda’s character. I loved that he was vulnerable but tough. I loved that no matter how hard things became he was so willing to try. His devotion to his sister was amazing and his willingness to let her go showed the true depth of his selfless nature.

Speaking of Willow. She was another twist in the story that I really enjoyed. To see her acknowledge her emotional baggage and how it manifests in her life was very interesting. I am a firm believer that a person has no chance of growing until they look their issues in the face and accepts their existence.  I look forward to hearing more of Willow's story and seeing how she develops in the next book in the series, Settling Scores, expected release date in May 2014.

As with all of the books in this fantastic series the “gang” bands together and helps the newcomer(s) to their group overcome the danger that has followed them to Edenville and supports them as they come to terms with their past and make a new way for their future. Finding Freedom, ends with Jedda's story finding some resolution and with Willow's story beginning.

I have read, and loved, all of the books in this series. I do think you could read this book as a stand-alone and still get a feel for the history of this group of characters. However, I suggest starting from the beginning with book 1, Chasing Justice. You will learn so much more if you do.

I never looked at freedom so literally before but with Jedda, Bobby’s brother being added into the picture, I was brought to look in a whole new perspective of things.

This time around, those emotions I had when I felt irritated to Bobby was directed to a new person name Willow. I felt like I don’t know her yet but I can’t help myself feeling all worked up with the way she reacted and decided on things most of the time. And it mades me feel guilty for looking at her situation with the way most of the people around her did. I guess it’s because I feel Jedda’s sacrifice was something that shouldn’t be dealt lightly and had to be compensated with how Willow will act on it.

This book is not just about Jedda and Willow though, it’s also about Betty and Clay though I must admit they make me feel awkward – something I don’t really know how to explain. Of Michael and Jules and their little one and still of Piper and Bobby and their bright future ahead of them.

I love that Betty got a second chance at love, that Jules could be so selfless as to sacrifice her wedding and how Betty knew her so much not to thread on what her daughter was saying. I felt happy seeing Piper being emotionally grown up, and seeing Bobby more free of the past that had him torn before. I love how Michael and Bobby built this friendship that got them supporting each others back and same goes with Piper and Jules.

Though this book is more about Jedda and Crystal, I love that you get to see everybody else in a better light. I love books where you see characters grow, learn and stand up from where life knocked them down. And this series was about all of those for all the characters and not only Piper. And like what I’ve said in my other reviews, I love books that tells great stories of family and friendship and this book is about that. In fact, for me this is not even a romance or suspense story, this is about life, family, friendship, of growing up and learning to understand people who’s walking with a different shoes.

I really enjoyed going through the journey with Piper and the other characters in this book. I fell in love with Michael to the point of hoping there’s him and Piper, but totally change my mind when Jules entered the scene. I have grown to understand Bobby and admire his ideals. I’m all heart with Betty and her cooking and the way she understood everyone else. I even love Edenville even if it’s people are sometimes disappointing. I long to read more about Chris and of Piper’s family. I am actually looking forward to read more about them and a bit disappointed that I didn’t. But hey, there’s still a next book and there’s still Betty’s journal and the novella that I haven’t read.

Danielle Stewart did an amazing job writing this series and you bet, I’ll eagerly look forward to the the next one.

She has invited me to the small town of Edenville and entwined me into the lives of the residents there, only to have it feel like going home again.

Danielle Stewart has the uncanny ability to put you in the midst of a story, a town, a family and have you feel as though no other world exist.

Danielle’s writing skills are so phenomenal that she always leaves me wondering why. Why don’t I know these people? Why have I never been to this town? Why can’t I get enough of her writing? Why are there not enough to stars to rate her? Why does everything she writes touch my soul? Why has she become my favorite author of all time?

“Finding Freedom” continues the story of the eclectic family from The Piper Anderson Series. They are pulling together again to protect one of their own, to be non-judgmental and to love unconditionally. They will hold you in high esteem, demand honesty, trust you
explicitly….but at the same time they teach self-preservation.

Jedda has dealt with hardship and tragedy most of his few years on earth. He gave up his freedom for the most precious person in his life, his sister Willow. It was not a decision, it was not an option…it was a necessity. You see, his love for his sister has no boundaries.
Willow was moved from her surroundings as a child, given a second chance to grow, to blossom into a wonderful young lady, to become a wonderful pillar of society.

“Our conscience is our worst enemy, and really are demons ever laid to rest?”

Jedda and Willow find themselves in Edenville, he looking for a second chance; she needs to see the brother she lost so long ago. Somehow trouble always seems to follow the newcomers to this small, nurturing community, but the citizens never turn you away. They take you in, they support you, they surround you and they fight with and for you.

Danielle also has the ability to start a story and carry the characters through several books while all maintain their major roles. There are no cameos, only tried and true characters that remain with you for the duration.

If you have not read Danielle Stewart and The Piper Anderson Series I implore of you to do so. Start with Chasing Justice and follow the citizens, the lives, the loves, the stories of Edenville’s finest. They are truly a family.

The fourth book by Danielle Stewart, finds Jedda Wright getting released from prison and not sure where he fits in. Michael Cooper brings him to Edenville to be with his adoptive brother Bobby Wright. But that isn't enough in the beginning as Jedda has spent half of his life in a cell and/or in a routine that isn't free to roam about. To makes things even worst his sister Willow shows up in town with secrets and a past of her own that threatens those he loves and those that have come to love him. He finds himself having panic attacks and even completing murder again as Willow life is in danger, as Brad a dangerous man comes to taunt them all. But the support team around him soon lets he see that would be the wrong thing to do! Also arriving in town is Crystal who worked in the court system who assisted in helping him and Michael with his release. Crystal has a secret of her own but will Jedda see past when revealed to find their love for one another is enough? Jules seeks help from Josh her OB/GY when Jedda has a panic attack and when coming outside they are met by Betty and Willow, attraction is there for Josh and Willow, but Willow always keeping Josh at bay to a degree with always wanting to be on the run. The book is a hit in my opinion having almost the characters here, Clay is with Betty and they are in love as much as they were in book three, they are still working on their restaurant to open together, and Jedda loves to cook as well, and do the prepping, keeps him busy. Jules is ready to have her baby girl, Michael is working on Willow and getting Brad off her back, and off the family for that matter. This is also about Jedda and his spiritual journey and finding redemption. Yes, Willow is complex and part of me didnt't like her until the very end, and then when you find out when she is up to, you think OH!!! Sad in that the gang/family would have helped in others ways maybe easier. But Willow is Willow.. Can't wait to read more of Willow's story and her "Settling Scores". I loved this book. It is another 5 star!! Good job Danielle.

Not my favorite book of the series, but still good. This one didn't have as much action. Well, maybe it was just that the action wasn't quite the same as it was in the previous books. Jedda is the main character of this book, but the story is as much Willow's as it is his. The action really revolves around Willow. Jedda reacts to it. The ending of the book does make you want to dive right into book 5, Willow's story. Unfortunately, it won't be available until May, 2014.

Once again, Betty and the Gang come to the rescue of the newest cause, Jedda. Since Jedda is Bobby's brother there was never any question that he would come to Edenville when he was released from prison. Now the challenge is to transition Jedda into society after having been in prison since the age of 15. No one except those special people who hang out on the porch in Edenville think this is a good idea. Jules is her usual feisty, and hilarious, self when she confront the townspeople the first time Jedda goes into Edenville.

This was a calmer book than the others, one in which you can see that the internal conflicts of Bobby, Piper, and Michael have been resolved and they are comfortable with where they are and decisions that were made. It's an entertaining read, but I'm sure there's much more of Jedda's story that will come out in Willow's story.

Spectacular!

I didn't think Danielle Stewart could beat her last book but she did. The characters are growing with each one; their depth and emotions leaping off of the pages on the book and becoming more and more life like with each word that crosses the pages. It's amazing really. And now there are not just three more new main characters but two others besides? It's simply amazing how they are all adding to and working around and in the aspects of each book and story. It's more like sitting on the wall as a fly and watching any other family as their lives unfold!

I laughed and cried, raged and shouted as things happened in this book. Sobbed when Willow hurt, growled at Jedda for his actions and comments; and even wanted to smack some of the upside the head when they pulled something stupid. If you haven't read any of these books then I highly HIGHLY suggest that you do! They're FANTASTIC books! Each book getting better and better by leaps and bounds. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next in the series, to find out where it will lead me in my journey with the rest of the Piper Anderson crew!

I was not paid to give this review, I received these books as a gift.

Boy oh Boy Danielle Stewart has done it again this time with so much of her heart in this book... This has to be the best so far in the series.. Oh to be back with the characters in this series... I always feel as if I am part of these people and situations they get themselves into... When Betty opened her arms and gave Jedda a hug I was lost.. only just starting the book and there was me crying !!! The awesome feeling that he was Safe now with people who would love him.. Jedda and Willow were a delightful addition to the regular stars of the series.. I laughed out loud...Oh how I cried.. and at times yelling my head off.. when I came to the end of the book I was content.. but knew I would not be happy until I read the next book...Thank you Danielle for writing this awesome book

OH WOW this was good. I felt total connection to Jedda and the injustice he and his sister suffered. He was a hero treated so wrongly. I think this book was better than the last in the series, and yes I said that about the last one too. But this one was so personal, very hard to remember it was a book and a story. Danielle Stewart writes believable characters, she takes you by the hand into the story, you feel the joy, confusion, sadness right along with he characters. You also feel the over whelming love of a family put together by wrongs. I highly recommend this whole series and by the time you get to Finding Freedom you will forget it is a book. Good job Danielle, good job!!!!!!!!

Out of the 4 books in the Piper Anderson series...I have to say this one is my favorite and had a lot of good advice and made me look at freedom in a different light. I feel like apart of this close knit group when I read this series and I'm sure everyone has or hopes to have someone like Betty and to have that many people in your corner willing to fight for you and to know when it's time to let you go on your own but always leaving that door open for you.. Can not wait til book 5 comes out and to read about Willows story and I hope Jedda and Willow will be able to be together as sibling should be and I hope willow sees josh again

4th Book in Piper Anderson's series. This book focus is on Jedda, Bobby's brother who just got out of prison. He has been in prison for 15 years and has to learn how to live on the outside. Crystal follows Jedda to this small town he has moved to to start over. She has a few secrets of her own, one being falling in love with Jedda. Willow Jedda's sister also shows up with her own story.
Lots of mystery, excitement and laughter in this book. I can't wait for next book with more about Willow's story and continuing the story with everyone in Edenville.

The development of the supporting character, Betty, just keeps getting better and better. And I love that the author even has this character's quirky witticisms rubbing off on other characters.
I was looking forward to getting to know Jedda in this book, but I still feel like his character is undeveloped. His circumstances and other people still seem to be defining him. That leaves me more unsatisfied at the end of this book than not knowing what's up with his sister.

I did enjoy it, but...

language. I am not a big fan of foul language. I can overlook it here and there. Thankfully, it's widespread in this story and I understand it perhaps fits the characters. I'm just other a fan of the "F" word and for me it takes away from the story. That being said the story is thankfully not littered with "F" bombs. Jedda & Willow have a lot to work through and I am enjoying their addition to Piper's family.

The Piper Anderson saga continues, but this one adds another character, his sister, and his love interest. At the same time the stories of the others continue. I found myself somewhat frustrated with the new characters and their inability to let go of the past, but I´m still interested enough to continue with the series.

Jedda's story wasn't disappointing in any way! You fall in love with his need to save those he loves, willing to sacrifice himself. I think Michael's character is probably one of my favorites! Can't wait for more Willow!!!
