3.5 stars.

The story was under developed and I wish we got a little more character development- but the chemistry between the two main characters was fire and that was honestly the only reason why I finished the book. The fact that I was invested and finished is the reason I gave it 3.5 stars.

The book could have been epic, better than Sjm even - had the author took time to really develop her fantasy world and create a more highly stakes environment with a little fantasy history. We got none of that. This was the same problem with book one.

This author has so much potential and I think is they find a good editor to help flush out the story and world building more she will become epic.

UNDERWHELMING. HORRIBLY DRAGGED ON and ON.

This often happens when the author sets the bar too high in their debut story to a new series. Whilst I highly enjoyed and loved the first book, The Ballad of the Vampire Prince was too wishy-washy for me to appreciate. At the end, there was a cliffhanger that leaves you uncertain if you want to continue to the next book, and after that, you just wonder....WHY ON EARTH DID I BOTHER PICKING THIS UP? I felt cheated waiting all those months for....THIS.

Due to SVENN and NEL's self-doubts and major pity party - plenty of monologues - and very little communication, be warned that this books is 80% less steamier than the first book. Heck, there wasn't even ONE sex scene here, except for dream sex. Those don't count. It's as if everything that happened in Book 1 when POOF - vanished into thin air.

I expected plenty of angst and heartache, but it wasn't well done, and sometimes I feel the characters suddenly turned into someone else. Weak. And the story DRAGGED. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but nada. I loved how Svenn was all "touch her and die" but it could be a little overboard at times. I kinda missed the old Svenn in Book 1. While Nel is still the same big-hearted girl, there were cracks to her self-esteem in this installation.

What was the point of writing this book if the plot was going nowhere? It felt like a filler story than the main event, and I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever get to see Nel and Lilith having a showdown or will the two of them just spit out the truth and confess their feelings?! It's frustrating to see the characters mentally torture themselves over something that could be easily solved!

NOTHING HAPPENED!! Apart from Svenn and Nel denying their feelings - the politics and bad guys, never showed! Also, the pining from both ends wasn't cute anymore.

OVERALL I AM SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED BY THIS INSTALLMENT. Low key angst, zero steam, wishy washy characters....I would have rated this 2 stars only if I wasn't still keeping my fingers crossed, hoping the next book will redeem this nonsense into what it should be - a Grade A fantasy vampire romance.

I was torn about how to rate this. On one hand, it was chaotic to read, to a point that sometimes I thought I skipped chapters. On the other hand i kept reading because I wanted to give it a chance and see what happened. Overall the writing feels rushed with not enough time taken to explain. I felt I had to figure out had to connect too many dots and I'm not sure if I did it correctly. I honestly wish the author would take the time to character and world develop and simply make the book longer. At 350ish, it is not too long that it cannot be added to.

still good

I removed a star because I dislike the miscommunication troupe. Just talk. 🙄 also no sex in this one. So sad.

filler?

Loved the first but this was a filler book and I’m not even sure why. Could have been longer could have been better. There is a lot of pointless stuff and it’s really annoying they can’t make out they are fated mates by now with this bond. Him stealing her away was out of the blue I felt like I missed pages but again just filler and nothing else. I hope the next is way better and actual explains things and goes towards the plot. The ending just throws me as to why the council even has a say. Does Queen mean nothing? It still hasn’t explained it or high far really. Needs more world building.

I read this straight after the first book and unfortunately I was disappointed.
The story dragged on with no real direction, just focused on the weird relationship that El and Sven have.
I felt the author had rushed this book as there were so many grammatical errors throughout this book.
I was really disappointed. Not sure if I'll read the 3rd installment of this series.

I feel like giving it 2 is alot. It's not the writing style, that I actually liked. However, Rhianelle went from likeable in the first book, and now in this book I just feel she lacks substance.

Also, I left off at 51% and felt like more than half isn't important.

It is very hard to put this into words, because overall, I do want to keep on reading this book. It is entertaining. BUT:

- Lack of description:
There is seriously a lapse of timeline and description of the characters and places. At once it is nighttime and daytime, it is not clear. You never know when the characters move places: Nel and Sven were in the orchard picking mangos and all of the sudden they were inside a corridor. When did they started to walk? When did they passed the door?
You never know where they are. To me, that is the main reason why I read, because I can imagine what is happening and the places where the characters are. These first two books lack that magic to transport you into that place.

- the story is stagnant:
Nothing happens. Yes. Svenn kidnapped Nel. Yes, they had encounters with other creatures, but they are still wondering "does he love me or not" and the miscommunication trope is not pleasant. So. You only have more questions on top of the first book. There only is the smutt and the same questions in their inner world.
They have discovered some clues, but they dismiss them! They are supposed to be smart.
The thing is, we have only one book left, and there are so many questions that I doubt all of them are going to be answered.

- World building:
I can understand a bit better the politics, but still, the author writes as if we already knew some terms and topics related to the ruling system and kingdoms, wars and enemies. It is not clear.

The book is good. It has a lot of potential.
It would be great if there was some more clarity.

needs more editing. what is even the plot of this book. hot mess. too much repetition and internal monolog. literally nothing happens most of the book.. super slow and boring and repetitive. it's a pet peeve of mine when characters are supposed to be 70-1000s of years old yet sometimes have the reactions of teenagers. like yes for the fmc it's clear she's considered young but life experience counts for a lot still. I really feel like getting Svens pov kind of ruined it for me. it took away his mystic, and I just found his pov kind of lack luster. Definitely doesn't give the depth of someone who has been imprisoned for 1000 years nor explores the lens of someone who is used to how the world worked 1000 years ago. fmc is supposedly a queen but seems so useless and yes I get that we are supposed to understand that the elders hold the true power but I wanted to see her really playing the games of the court competently and she does not. she honestly has no queenly duties other than attending a meeting occasionally. some scenes were really poorly explained and I had to reread to try to envision what was happening. fmc says her main motivation is finding her friend yet she does nothing towards this goal. some of the writing comes across quite juvenile. has gone downhill since first book

I loved this book and I really enjoyed the characters, especially Svenn. He is the definition of a murderous, dark cinnamon roll. The writing was a little grammatically inconsistent, there were errors here and there but I really enjoyed the writing otherwise so I was able to overlook it. The only issue I had with this book is the plotline. Which plot are we supposed to be focused on? The Rhunhraefn taking over Rhianelle? The war with the Aeonians on the horizon? Blaire's captivity status? Svenn's manhunt for Eirik? The murderer on the loose in Windhaven? It all kinda bled together as I continued to read. And the hesitant romance between the two distracted from it as well. I was hooked on this book and finished it so fast. I loved it and look forward to what the next one has to offer. Maybe we will get a better grasp of all of it coming into play.

If the MMC goes on to hate Rhianelle when she locks him in the next book then I'm not finishing it.
This book has strong language. Especially the vampire's pov. I like that he falls for her hard. But that curse is like a ticking time bomb on their relationship. I think she's going to betray him and I really don't want to read that. He's been through so much. Just let them be happy already.
Is the third book the final book? Will Blaire have her own book with the orc prince? I want to read more about her friendship with Rhianelle and their time in the forbidden forest. Who is the old lady at the and of the book? I get the reference to her turning the wheel of her wagon to the wheel of fate. Is she fate? I finished this in one sitting by the way.

I love the fmc but I'm not sure if I like the mmc. He is more Tamlin esque than Rhysand. His obsession is too much for me sometimes. Maybe that's just because this is a dark fantasy romance instead of fantasy romance. In the wise words of my beloved Rhys sometimes too much love can be a poison. But I want to know what happens next especially the fmc's hidden power. My favourite is the seadragon and Jessica lol. A very demure and mindful spider monster.

I applied for the arc for this one from instagram but it didn't go through.
My friend who applied for TT said she had hers. Life is unfair.

Disappointing.
I loved the first book so much amd had such high hopes for this one! The romantic tension was GREAT for the first 70% percent. The problem occurred when he stole her away from running her country and admitted to pretty much wanting her as a slave including burning her chlothes. Granted he was under some sort of magic... but it honestly felt too g(r)ape-y for my taste. My other complaint is that nothing happened in this book? The plot wasn't really furthered in my opinion and neither was their relationship. The end of the book felt like it should be the end of a chapter in the middle of the book.

always wanting more!

I wish I could give this one a 4.5. I didn’t like the story carries away with him locking himself up and then they just kind of carry on and then they just go back to her home. He makes these efforts to appease her and they still go back and forth about not touching each other. And he doesn’t know her history but he fed from her? It didn’t add up for me. The spice was 2/5, angst 3/5 but I feel like there was too much holding back in this book. I was reading more and more getting into the story and then.. cliffhanger.

Book 2 is a good read but not as good as the first book. The whole book was all about Svenn and Rhianelle miscommunications and denying their feelings while being oblivious to a fairly obvious type of bond

There is no doubting their chemistry it’s great to read but by the end of the book I was kind of over it and wanted them to move forward.

It would have been nice to have had some progression on the other storylines just to break up the longing love story that dominated this entire book

I was really hoping they’d get better.

Spoilers:
The first half of the book was good I had high hopes it was actually going to be a really good book but then the whole insane part of Svenn is a whole separate part of himself from their bond mess was just the final straw. It was so poorly written and it felt like such a whiplash in the plot line. I won’t be reading the last book I absolutely DNFed this book.

I wasn't even sure I was going to read book two, but I kept running into the carousel style tiktoks for this series and it dragged me back in. I'm not quite sure what happened, but this felt so chaotic. We still have not gotten closer to figuring out about her friends that are missing. I'm left with more questions about this court and her role as queen, and the MMC and FMC's relationship is still a mess. It felt like a filler of a book.

Hmmm not sure what happened here...

I LOVED book 1 but were there alot of typos? Yes
Did it feel alittle all over the show? Also yes
BUT! I was pretty forgiving because there was a lot I was intrigued by and the vibes were vibing.

Book 2 delivered nothing but more questions and confusions and I am unsure now if I should even read the next book...

Mixed feelings but I enjoyed the romance. Just needed the world to expand a bit. We have yet to see the fae though they are the enemy. Not even a single orc. How is it we still don't know the mmcs real name in the second book?

I read this one after the TT about Rhianelle getting a pale wyvern for her birthday. But there's no such scene in this book. Is that something that happens in the 3rd book? It would be nice to have more plot than smuut in the third book.

Iam simply not able to put this series down ! I love it! The characters are very loveable it’s nice to have a fmc that’s not an arrogant brat! Iam getting a little tired of those lately. Rhianelle is kind but also strong! Il be going straight to book 3.

This feels like it’s being written without a specific ending in mind, so the plot is a little rambling. I think it has an interesting world and great characters, but I’m three books in and not a whole lot has happened. That being said, I will definitely keep reading this series going forward.

Is the couple end game?
Mind the cliff folks.
