LEGEND HUNTERS

Syaoran and his companions continue their inter-dimensional travels in order to restore the memories of Princess Sakura and this time, they find themselves having adventures in two exciting and mystery-filled worlds. They first come to Jade Country—a cold, snow-covered land where the town of Spirit lives in fear of the legend of a 300 year-old princess who has been stealing the townspeople’s children. Following this, our worlds-spanning adventurers find themselves in Ôto, where to earn money, they become hunters of demonic creatures called Oni. Will they be able to find more pieces of Princess Sakura’s fragmented memories as they continue on through new and increasingly perilous worlds?

CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

This volume was good like the last one; lots of action and intriguing artwork and the part involving the "Princess with the Gold Locks" and Sakura was interesting. However I am kinda hoping the other volumes will have a bit more romance and other stuff in it. Maybe it's the emotional stuff I feel like it's currently lacking in. I don't know why I'd want it to go there and make my heart and soul suffer but xD

jan 21, 2022 - it's nice getting a reminder of how much outo-koku did to improve the group's dynamic. like literally fai made them into the essential nuclear family with him as the mother and kurogane as the father and kurogane still begrudgingly taking up that role is so... so telling. anyways this is another win for the gays

The second Tsubasa Omnibus takes us through a couple other new worlds and focuses on fleshing out Shoaran's background story and his prior relationship with Sakura (that he's now had to give up). Fai and Kurogane are also fleshed out as characters and just in time: the first major plot twist comes at the very end of this book!

Omnibus 2 is a bridge book. It helps lay the foundation for the characters and their personalities and relationships before the story takes a new turn in #3. Up until now the plot has been very episodic and basic (go to world x, fight boss, find feather), but the end of volume 2 hints that this pattern is about to change. The basic-ness of the plot was necessary to flesh out the characters and help the reader understand them. That being done, we are now ready for some real conflicts and plot development!

I continue to love Shoaran and all the heartstrings CLAMP pulls on the reader with his story. He starts to grow as a person toward the end of this volume, and Sakura starts to struggle more with accepting that she's totally dependent on these "strangers" to help her. There are a few plot kisses with xxxHolic to keep the reader aware of how both series' are progressing together. Again, this volume is very simple, but the ending promises that more is just around the corner!

I'm excited to continue and see how this new twist affects the story and characters! Onward!

I really enjoyed this volume! And I loved seeing more characters of magic knight Rayearth being a part of this crossover. I wasn't expecting that thing with doctor Kyle, but that really was a twist that surprised me. I also enjoyed seeing more memories of Sakura's and Sayoran's childhood friendship, and the cast rely on each other.

As much as I want to continue the series, I found out yesterday through Amazon searches and searching my local bookstore that a lot of the later omnibus volumes are sold out and hard to find. I can get Tsubasa Omnibus 3, but the rest will be hard to track down, so after I get the third volume, I'll have to pause the collection. Yes it is available digitally but I wanted to have a full physical collection. I hope a reprint happens in the future.

Still enjoying more than i expected
The worlds they visit and the people they meet are all really cool.
I also enjoy the end-of-volume explanations of stuff like the references and crossover bits even if I'm trying to keep up in xxHolic on my own.

And we got an explanation for Syaoran's badassness! woot.

This omnibus felt (naturally) transitional versus the prior one. I’m hoping future omnibuses will re-incorporate more emotional weight instead of heavy action/fight scenes, as the former is what I’m more drawn to.

General Observation:
~Character Development – Kurogane and Syoaran: In this omnibus, the reader learns about Syaoran’s physical weaknesses and martial arts style. In this volume, there’s the development of an apprenticeship between Kurogane and Syaoran, and I think this is a great opportunity of character development for both Kurogane and Syaoran. Kurogane definitely fits into the “noble warrior” character arch-type and I think it’s a good thing for him to be a positive role model for someone (especially considering Kurogane’s tragic backstory).

~Shipping – Kurogane and Fai: There’s definitely some romantic tension between those two and they are so adorable together.

~Slow Plot Development: In this volume, we get some minor plot development from a minor villain, more of a minion really, however, it’s still terribly slow by normal plot standards. Meanwhile, the supposed “antagonists” are still lurking in the shadows, not doing anything. It a good thing the main characters are engaging enough to carry this series.

All in all, a good series with engaging characters that are slowly growing and improving, I definitely recommend this series.

🌸4th December 2023🌸

CLAMP has yet to disappoint me! I grew up loving CardCaptor Sakura so my discovery of Tsubasa was bound to be love at first sight! I adored the first omnibus (volumes 1-3) so I’m completely unsurprised that this book was fantastic. Syaoran, Princess Sakura, and the rest of the gang continue their explorations of various worlds in search for Sakura’s memories. It continues with the same level of action as the first omnibus but develops the characters more, particularly Syaoran. I could not put this book down and I read the almost 600 page manga in no time. It has so much heart while also being funny and thrilling! It literally has everything and I need to know what happens next!

I really wish I could combine this plot with one or two other author/illustrators that I love. This is my favorite storyline of any manga I've read, but I really kind of hate the illustrations, especially in the battle scenes. Everything is too busy, and it doesn't help that they are all in black and white. The style is just not to my taste. But, really, I'll always keep reading because I really love the premise.

A good first book for 2017. Yes, yes - I know, we're already one month into the year and I haven't read a single book. Sigh.

I love these Tsubasa Chronicles. Every aspect of them, from the art to the story to the marvelous characters (Kurogane will forever be my favourite). The plot is so engaging it just keeps you flipping through the pages at a rapid pace. Will be revisiting this volume again at some point because it's just so easy to miss things!

Once again, I'm happy and delighted to be going through this series, and I do think I'm appreciating it more as an adult than I think I would have in my teen years. Not much else to say here, other than that the plot continues to be intriguing, I'm very curious to see where all it goes, and I continue to adore all of the random cameos other CLAMP works and characters get in this series.

We learn more about Syaoran and moments of hilarity ensue between Fai and Sakura - especially when alcohol is introduced. Syaoran meets an unexpected acquaintance that leaves the readers with more questions than answers.

The protagonists are starting to get to know each other better now. I still maintain that is probably the best take on "lost memories" I've seen yet.
