A new version of a communication satellite is launched. At the moment of separation, one of its designer's sabotages it by changing its trajectory thus making it unusable to the United States and causing the rocket to malfunction. This results in an elite, secret, organization housed in the Pentagon basement to be called on by the President. The characters are richly presented and there are sub plots of their personal lives both before their recruitment and during the mission. I was surprised to see that this did not have a number to indicate a series. Mr. Rovin also writes Tom Clancy's Op-Center Series.
