Moving to Seaglass Cove with the new Chapter of Havlin Motorcycle Club after serving his sentence in the state prison, Maverick bought a house and executed the fail-proof way to get his eight-year-old daughter back into his life.
Damaged and unable to speak more than a few words at a time, Maverick's job with the club never requires him to talk—talking will get him killed.
With his kid back under his roof, all he must do is get rid of his daughter's aunt. It's a simple job. Get in, clean up, and never say a word.
Being twenty-five years old and raising her niece for the last four years on her own took every minute, every dollar, and every bit of strength Brooke Harrison possessed. So, when the job offer with a hotel on the coast is presented to her, she jumps at the chance to better their lives.
She never expected to arrive at the rental and have a biker hold her hostage and threaten her life. Day after day, throughout the summer, a fear she's never experienced before makes her highly attuned to the mysteries surrounding her kidnapper.
Skye blossoms under the attention of the silent biker. But her niece isn't the only one drawn to the man with few words, a dragon tattoo, and is three times her size.
Call it a coping mechanism or Stockholm Syndrome or insanity, she starts seeing Maverick for who he really is, and the truth scares her more than the kidnapping.

3.5 stars? Not exactly sure how I feel about this one. Always like Ms. Kayn’s writing but for the first half of the book, I really didn’t like Maverick and I’m not sure I was fully onboard with their relationship, even in the end. I get that he went through hell because of her sister but Brooke had no idea about any of that. She took responsibility for his kid/her niece when she was 21! (She had no idea he was even Skye, her niece’s, father.) Brooke gave up her life and devoted herself to raising Skye. How dare he lure her to town under false pretenses so she’ll bring Skye to him and he could kill her to get Skye? Bribe her? He then resolves to just manipulate her into marrying him for Skye’s sake? That’s brutal. I know we’re meant to believe that they end up falling for each other but it was hard to swallow. It was difficult to believe he wasn’t largely attracted to her because he needed her to help raise his daughter and not report him to the police. And she needed him to stay in her niece’s life.
Their relationship would have been more believable if Brooke had stepped away from him (for longer than an unsupervised trip to the coffee shop🙄) so we could believe she really wanted to be with him of her own free will. Once she knew he was Skye’s dad and had his daughter’s best interest at heart, let him be her father. Take a step back. Move out, work, visit with Skye, even date Maverick if she wanted that, but after being held against her will and married to him by coercion… yeah, I don’t think that’s healthy or believable start to a relationship.
On a positive note, this series has had two excellent covers 😉and I do enjoy the world of Havlin MC.

Thinking she was getting a new job and start in a new town, Brooke and her niece was settling into their house when a strange man showed up. Maverick had just gotten out of prison and had set a plan in motion to get his daughter back, what did he come up with was a kidnapping. It started with tricking the woman who had his daughter to town and his plan was to eventually get rid of her. But,the more time he spent with her that plan went out the window so he went with plan B and tried to buy her off.Mean while Brooke had ideals of her own and that was to get them away from Maverick as soon as possible, but he made it literally impossible having her watched at all times by him or one of his MC brothers. Thinking he killed her sister had only added to her fear and hatred of him, but the way he treated his daughter and her had her slowly changing some of her thoughts about him. But her behavior hadn't let him fully trust her so, he put his final plan into action. He'd force her to marry him and this was the true turning point in their relationship. When he'd made that decision he knew he loved her and wanted her as much as he wanted his daughter, he wanted them to be a family. What he didn't know was that she was feeling the same, but also felt it was only because of the way she took care of his daughter. But that was not the case as she soon found out, he loved her she not only knew it but felt it and she felt the same. In the end they were finally a family!!😍😍😍
Trying to get his daughter back after losing her when he went to prison he decides to kidnap the daughter and her aunt, who has custody and hold them hostage. What a great idea!!!!😨. The blurb got me, how can this even remotely work? It does. I just finished June 7, the first of this series. Before that it had been a long time since I've read this author so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. didn't really like the H. Not until the pieces of his puzzle started to come together. Then I got it and actually felt for the guy. The h was likable, she was all about her niece, the H's daughter. There were parts that did seem a little far fetched but you kinda have to expect that. Although this was a fast read their relationship didn't seem fast. The ending did seem a little rushed. Maybe because we don't see a lot of the MC in either book it never really felt like that had that bond that you get with other MC books. I have noticed some editing issues with both books, nothing major, but that kind of things bothers some people i.e. She had on red shoes and a yellow top and was barefoot.....????? There were also a few times when the wording would be off a little and break the reading flow but again not a lot. I would recommend this if you're in the mood for a quick read. I will be checking out other books by this author. Both books (June 7 is the first) are available on KU. They both could be read as a stand alone
aahhh I wanted to love this book as much as Book 1 but I really struggled with a few things.... I loved the idea of this story.... Fresh out of prison, Maverick will do anything to have his young daughter back in his life. This includes kidnapping and holding hostage her and her aunty Brooke who has custody of her. Love this concept! However, I honestly struggled to like Maverick. Some of his story ached my heart but aahhh I don't know I simply couldn't bring myself to fully like him. Although, I did find the moments with his daughter sweet. And.... Honestly, I didn't see a connection between him and Brooke really. Well, maybe only in the rushed ending. Personally, I felt it went from him treating her extremely poorly to declaring 'I love you'. I also would have loved the MC to play a bit more of a role.
This was a quick read that had some elements of emotion, angst, suspense and a little action.
While I didn't enjoy this Book as much as Book 1 I'm hoping we get some more of the Havlin MC! Will definitely be keeping an eye out.
Just as good as the first one. Sad, I was hoping for a third. Maverick and Brooke were a great MMC and MFC. The way he manipulated Brooke to get her to bring his daughter to him was genius, although many will find it wrong. But he was right, anyone in an MC are looked upon with negative eyes and it was his only way to get his daughter back. I wonder however, if she should have tried to run even if she didn't get away. But it doesn't matter. Back stories were solid, well thought out, and in the book enough to not leave any questions. Kayn has a smooth writing technique and it was enjoyable to read. If you liked June 7, you will love August 20.
I loved Maverick’s story with Brooke and Skye! The beginning of Brooke’s new life was ordinary….until it wasn’t! Brooke was really Skye’s aunt but she was granted custody as the only living relative. Living paycheque to paycheque she jumped at the job offer that came with a new home. But it was too good to be true and she soon found herself as a hostage instead. Maverick, victim of a meth lab explosion, was only able to speak a few words before throat spasms shut him down. He knew he was actually Skye’s father but Brooke and Skye didn’t.
I so enjoyed this story. A misunderstanding cause him to spend time in prison for something he did not do. He left a 4 yr old and got her back 4 yrs later. An he never knew about was caring for his daughter. He made a bad decision that turned out to be right for all three of them. The characters were well developed and it was easy to see their pain and their happiness. I encourage you to enjoy this one. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger. A very good read.
I am all for the quiet, broody, misunderstood type. However, am I really supposed to find this scenario in any way romantic?
I stopped reading when I realized that Maverick was not going to be punished for the things he'd done to Brooke and Skye up to that point, and could not stand the idea of him getting his happily ever after.
I skimmed and skipped through but unlike other MC books this had no gratuitous, degrading sex which earned it an extra point. The a lot of the book’s storylines are ridiculous and unbelievable but it has a few moments. I leave it up to the reader to decide without a recommendation from me. SEX SCENES - Yes. There are two developed scenes that are decent but nothing that’s going to knock your socks off.
At twenty one Brooke becomes guardian to her niece. She puts her life on hold to raise her niece and she wouldn't change a thing. She accepts a new job excited for a new beginning for her and her niece. Except it is not a new job, it was a strange plan to kidnap her and her niece. Definitely a different twist on kidnapping!
really 3.5* as I enjoyed this book, and read more like what I'm used to from DK. I was good with both leads, and the story held my interest, but it ended too abruptly. The story was going along and then there was the epilogue, which really wrapped everything up without any explanation. Somewhat disappointing for that reason.
This was very different then I expected, thought it would be more aggressive and very similar to other biker stories but this was much morec,I warmed to the mmc because he loved his daughter without any thoughts for his best interests and was all about her and I'm so glad it wasn't rushed and the mfc was great and strong definitely no walk over
This book has a HEA but it deals with overall dark place for probably 3/4 of the book. I really Ike how the author developed the relationship. It goes from enemies to a relationship in a slow development. This hits a lot of tropes—motorcycle club, enemies, age gap, kidnap. It should appeal to most readers.
An interesting story line Something unique And different from anything I've read in the past. Something I've come to expect from this author.. Plus the hero gave me a new Plus the hero gave me a new book boyfriend! Highly recommend This series Reading more From Debra Kayn
I'll be honest I wasn't sure I was going to like this story. With the deceit at how it started, and Mavrick's original plans for Brooke. As I read the story, I came to understand his reasons even though it was unorthodox. It really is a good story even though it's a little twisted.
Brooke is the guardian of her niece Skye, and she moves to Seaglass Cove, with the promise of a job. Maverick has other plans for her and Skye. These two start with out with fear of what the other is planning. I liked this story because they were able to overcome their differences to become a family.
Is newly out of prison and has a plan to get his daughter back. But Brooke was never part of the plan. When kidnapped Brooke becomes so much more. Another great book in this series.
Can two people let go of the past for the love of one child? Maverick wants his daughter back. Brooke will fight to give her niece a proper life. Will they work together for the same purpose.
Maverick is a favorite even when he goes about things the wrong way for his family. This story starts out rough and scary for the main FMC but ends up smooth and full of happiness.
Fantastic read. I absolutely loved Maverick and Brooke’s story. ❤️❤️❤️ This so far has been a great series. Although kidnapped, true love finds a way. 100% recommend this book to everyone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you will not be disappointed ❤️
DNF 67% I’ve tried but I am tapping out. This series isn’t for me. The Stockholm Syndrome situation with the main female character and the lack of chemistry? I’m just saying OUT with the book and this series.
In true Debra Khan fashion this book will make you cry for this poor couple. Please read book one first. You won't regret it!!!!! I highly recommend any and all Debra Khan books! Esp the MC ones!
What would you do to get something precious back? This story explores the extreme means one man goes to to reunite with the most important person to him.
I did enjoy it, but I would have liked to have seen more "freedom" before a choice was made Brooke made her decision.
I wanted to read this cause its title was my bday. I was so in happy that was a MC read. Mavericks character was such a a surprise with his kindness and gentleness after what all he had gone through. Love reading new to me authors as well so a double yay!!
Oh boy, this one has a lot of feelings involved. Maverick has a daughter that he lives for, he has went to prison for something he has not done. He has tricked Brooke, because he wants his daughter back. I highly recommend this.
I liked this story better than book 1. I think the series is getting into stride. This was a very mc lite book. I'm not sure I believe a woman can live a man that kidnaps her, but if I did this would be a book I would Believe in it for
Maverick and Brooke learn to be great parents to Skye once they learn they can't live without each other. Great story and characters and the Havlin Motorcycle club are a good fit enjoyed reading about the brothers and the old ladies of the club.
This is vintage Debra Kayn, weaving a story that's slightly uncomfortable to read but it keeps you enthralled until the end. It's a fantastical start, the plot is fast paced and ends in an HEA
I can't imagine living with pain of not being able to speak well. I felt like I hurt every time Maverick hurt. I knew once Mav realized Brooke wasn't the bad guy he would see her differently and vice versa.
This was a strange read. A young woman who unexpectedly had to take on her nieces care moves to another town for a job only to find out it was under false information. Maverick the silent biker has a plan but this get thwarted.
